You're one of the funniest, most personable, and informative teachers I've ever found. Thanks, dude.
I made this video for the people who didn't know how to mix DnB.
You know how! good for you, they do not, so perhaps after a few tutorials from me and other people one day they will, and in turn they will help others.
This is all i want.
thanks
j
ellaskins Mad props for just playing out and sharing your skills!! Great Tunes as well. Now if you could do a half time dnb to dnb mix..I’m struggling there.
14 ish years later and your lessons are really making an impact on my progress, thanks dude
man, you're the best!
why do still people think these tutorials would be useless? ifyou don't need them, don't watch them, you're not forced to watch this!
i hate those people, who think only because they know how to do something, the others wouldn't have to learn it...
so, shut up!
thanks for your great help, johnathan!
now i know why there's a fire extinguisher in the background, those songs are top
+TETYYS what if the mix gonna have too much fire in it :P
Top tier comment
I feel like this guy should of been on Human Traffic
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 for sure
Obeisant if ur a DJ when watching that film u are in it 😎 in ur own head of corz 🎧
That mix into shock out is bloody brilliant mate every time I hear the tune it reminds me of you and this video
Epic mate, your videos really make my day brighter everytime, cheers for your work and the laughs :)
In d'n'b, the kicks rarely land on the third beat. It's usually the 3.5 or the "three-and," halfway between the 3 and the 4. This is what makes it a breakbeat.
Sometimes even the second snare doesn't always land on 4 either. Often in drum and bass which incorporates the 'Think' break, the snares land on 2 and 3.5. But in this case, the chances are that there will be one kick for every 2 snares
I normally dj techno and I've been trying to learn to mix D&B, you're video is absolute fucking gold. hasn't aged even a little bit.
Really nice video ellaskins !!! Someone just gave me the heads up on your video, telling me you had used one of my tracks in your video (trick a tek remix), lol that put a smile on my face, keep up the informative videos john, you are a super star dj !!!, plus a very very good presenter !!!
all the best from P.O.T
Just watched this - really helpful, and you're a really easy person to watch! Subscribed
what a lovely bloke !! just good too actually meet ( if you like ) someone this genuine ....had me watching all his posts ...looool
Feel like I'm so late to this party but I'm here, learning and very grateful.
love your no nonsense explanations. good stuff.
Great tutorial, I've mixed trance for a couple of years and was wanting to mix different genre's brilliant tutorial mate!
what a tune to bring in love danny byrd
@amenKilla
Totally agree with you mate, I was mainly thinking for newbies to beatmatching, to get them out of the habit of touching the plate too much at the beginning. Once the mix is in and its live to the audience, you need to touch the plate to catch it if one is going out of time
Missed this video, you have some great tutorials mate, big respect.
Yay!!! Mines the 200th comment.... this guy is legend.... love the way he explains stuff.....I believe in two things, if someone makes something looks easy and makes you think "yea I could do that " and then you try to do it and fail..then who explained it is damn good (they made it look easy) ......secondly I never thought rhythm could be tought ......apperantly I was wrong lol..... thanks for the upload 😁
Of course it can be taught... they teach you that stuff in music school :P
Always fun to watch, john your a legend mate
Nice man, you make nice movies! I just recently started to DJ, a friend of me has a proper set and he helps me. He is not into dnb but I am, so these movies help out a lot! :) do you have any tips or advice when it comes to easy dnb songs to start of with? Like a track set of 8 numbers so I can practise with those. Thanks in advance!
thanks
look forward to it!
j
calm down. you keep saying how you are not so good, and your like "i mean i am pretty crap" but you are an amazing teacher. and i love all of your videos. they are so much help. im just starting to scratch and mix and you have taught me alot and given me a lot of encouragment.
=]
Brilliant tutorials thank you very much
thanks
i total feel it man thats a good way for beginers iv bin mixin for a wile and its grown on me but that way is spot on man respect vortecx !!!
@anao22 This same poster has a great vid where he explains how to beatmatch. Basically, think of it like two cars racing side by side. If one is going faster, it quickly gets ahead. So the slower record has to go at an even *faster* speed to catch the other up. Then when they draw side by side, the track which was originally going slower is now the faster track, so when it gets ahead you have to slow it down quite a bit to have it drop back into line with the other car.
Thank you Ella
very good tutorial, one of the best
Nice work bringing out the P.O.T. tune! Love 'em!
Thank you man, ur awsome !
nice and easy to understand
cheers ellaskins, i really like your tutorials, just 1 question m8, why do you prefer the hi hats to snare when you mix drum and bass? so many ppl say that, easier to find the snares, and I noticed same. By the way Im beginner in DJ-in'. Its a quite old video, hopefully, u will respond.
You are just ahsum m8 =D I love your tut's and everything.. Helps me much
You are soooooooooooooooooooooooooo funny. More importantly you taught me the importance of the snare. Thank you. Now I can DJ.
You make it look so easy!
Great tutorial, helped me mix DnB!
the beat that you explained is in fact more a typical hip-hop beat, kicks on 1 and 3 ( and then another kick halfway between 3 and 4 ). the d'nb beats have got the kick ( again typically ) not on the third beat but halfway between 3 and 4.
I love how the camera jumps when you do the kick drum @ 1:08 :D
quality video, mate!
cheers
thanks very much, looks like I'm gonna have to keep making tiny adjustments then
As written in the information:
Tune is Danny Byrd - Shock Out
What a top bloke brilliant explanations mate starting out as a noob and love my drum and bass so this is great thank you.
Heads up peeps !!!
New album by The Prisoners Of Technology has just become available on itunes and amazon !!! A 9 track album "Battlemaster Sessions Vol 1" ............. n-joy
really awesome m8!
This helped me out so much, absolute boss cheese
thxxxxxxxxxx!!
more tutorial on using da mixer would be goodddd!
Thx alot for that video, I like DnB and breakbeat, but I dont really know how to mix it. That really helps me. As your vids usualy do :)
... I guess if you was my math teacher in school, I would have passed with 15 points instead of 4. Great job Johnny !
Please do some comedy vids again, I miss all the funny guys you are, lol !
Oh and by the way, great T-shirt drawing skills dude ;D
Cheers,
F
keep try it thx man
Man, I love u. Thank you very much, I'm from Russia, but I understood everything that you say, cuz you have very good british accent. Are you from England? :)
When you're mixing drum n' bass and you've got two songs beatmatched (ON VINYL), will they remain in sync until they finish, or will they slowly go out of step; therefore requiring very slight pitch adjustments while they're playing?
because he is awesome
hey mate, sorry, was that chop it up on the 2nd beat (snare) ???
Maan in 12 years thats still a really really good equipment
Dope shirt..
Nice!
j
Nice vid mate. Enjoyed that =)
really need The prisoner of technology vs T.M.S trick'a'tek
ha great vid J, you've taught us how to mix it, but can you PLEASE teach us how to dance to the bloody stuff...damn, if someone told me to dance to that id be like:
"wha??...."
in drum n bass the snare normally keeps the same tempo, its the kick thats the offbeat.. so its like kick----snare.. kick-snare
buen video amigo eres bueno para explicar de una forma muy extraña pero buena XD
you are such a boss
Thanks
thanks
Depends if theyre perfectly in sync, then yea they should continue in sync, if they dont change tempo ofc.
you're the best!!!!!!!!
nice nice one. btw (noob alert!) what's the title of the second song?
super
i am beginning to dj and i need to now if its good for me to mix real music or just rithums
ooooh the snare is the round drum? i thought it was the triangular one
@anao22 But not as slow as the original speed, because you already know that's too slow. In this way you can tune in to the correct speed by oscillating between too fast and too slow, but by smaller increments each time. The difficulty then is to fine tune it. Your hand shouldn't leave the pitch control until you are sure it is beatmatched properly.
Also, forget touching the plate, it's not for beatmatching. Leave the record alone and use the pitch control ONLY. I wish someone had told me that
Good video J. 2 step garage would have been an easier to understand introduction to music with a 2 step beat. I will get the cam out for a response.
People seem to be confused by what was said. A D&B beat at it's simplest only has a kick drum on every other beat i.e. beats 1 and 3 and a snare on every other beat in between. i.e. beats 2 and 4. House on the other hand has a kick on every beat and a hi hat on beats 2 and 4. People confuse the snare sound and the kick and hi hat together sound.
ok ok ok
i wanna learn how to like "make beats" "remixing" "deejaying" and stuff...
where should i start?
bib up from Poland/Ireland :)
Łódz city Limerick city :)
yeah mate, its same i reckon.. maybe lower bpm, tis called 2step drum pattern i believe
at 6.43 how did u know the drop was in.. ?? like when the other tune sed technology the other one dropped in.. ?? i keep seeming to miss the drops like this.. not off beat but not on the drop if use know what i mean.
Kinda sounds like circles by Adam-F
which drum is the snare? the round one right?
Great video. I love drum and bass, but I spin minimal. Maybe now I can get into mixing some drum and bass haha.
And to hypercatjohn, it was just a simple analogy, it wasn't like he was comparing Tchaikovsky to Tiesto.
Why don't you go listen to some Chopin in your basement and cry =D
how to mix
mashup with dubstep, grime ,glitch hop or crunk hip hop...??
anyone ideass??
@achuchablee I have the technics 1210 m5g...
close your eyes and derren brown is a dj instructor
all i really struggle with is matching the pitches together, I can never get it right, actually being creative after is no problem its just getting to that point of having them at the same speed I really struggle with
Ok so how is it now? Did you learn to beatmatch :D?
Can someone advice me a good tool for beginners?
my mann nice videos this shit helps a lot u have no idea
finally got the shirt to match the hat
Danny Byrd - Shock Out
what are you asking about exactly?
gawd that guy was funny, i actually kept my concentration, cheers :D
Shock OUT!
By the way people i ment 'Commix - Talk to Frank' in last comment.
When he goes to lift the arm off the cd player.
Funny as!
This guy always makes me laugh.
Very helpful too.
@thesurfguy Read the description.
start where you want, do you wanna produce your own beats? just look for a nice program and jump into the cold water..same with djing, get a cheap set and the fun begins..learing by doing, thta's how i started
I count 1,2,3 AND 4. Seems to work
i have a big problem with bpm's cause it doesn't be all the time in same speed, it varies too much times...and i lost the mix, cause one song be more fast than other, so i feel a very big difficulty to control it...:S
Byrd is the word
that chop was nasty
GREAT video mte how i found ur other 1s lol
has anyone got anytips on how to beatmatch when using software? the bpms don't fully match so i always end up using the sync button rather than match it
i do use the pitch faders but it still increases it by about 0.53 bpm every time i move it rather than 0.1 bpm
use the pitch bend man :) sometimes you get tracks that just time themselves out of eachother anywayz (i find this happens alot djing like hardtek and shit) use the pitch bend control to keep it in line and just remember what tunes need it
