    I made this video for the people who didn't know how to mix DnB.
    You know how! good for you, they do not, so perhaps after a few tutorials from me and other people one day they will, and in turn they will help others.
    This is all i want.

    In d'n'b, the kicks rarely land on the third beat. It's usually the 3.5 or the "three-and," halfway between the 3 and the 4. This is what makes it a breakbeat.

    • @jbcddfgvbvv
      @jbcddfgvbvv Před rokem

      Sometimes even the second snare doesn't always land on 4 either. Often in drum and bass which incorporates the 'Think' break, the snares land on 2 and 3.5. But in this case, the chances are that there will be one kick for every 2 snares

    Totally agree with you mate, I was mainly thinking for newbies to beatmatching, to get them out of the habit of touching the plate too much at the beginning. Once the mix is in and its live to the audience, you need to touch the plate to catch it if one is going out of time

    @anao22 This same poster has a great vid where he explains how to beatmatch. Basically, think of it like two cars racing side by side. If one is going faster, it quickly gets ahead. So the slower record has to go at an even *faster* speed to catch the other up. Then when they draw side by side, the track which was originally going slower is now the faster track, so when it gets ahead you have to slow it down quite a bit to have it drop back into line with the other car.

    the beat that you explained is in fact more a typical hip-hop beat, kicks on 1 and 3 ( and then another kick halfway between 3 and 4 ). the d'nb beats have got the kick ( again typically ) not on the third beat but halfway between 3 and 4.

    When you're mixing drum n' bass and you've got two songs beatmatched (ON VINYL), will they remain in sync until they finish, or will they slowly go out of step; therefore requiring very slight pitch adjustments while they're playing?

  • @TheGeneralDisarray
    @TheGeneralDisarray Před 13 lety

    @anao22 But not as slow as the original speed, because you already know that's too slow. In this way you can tune in to the correct speed by oscillating between too fast and too slow, but by smaller increments each time. The difficulty then is to fine tune it. Your hand shouldn't leave the pitch control until you are sure it is beatmatched properly.
    Also, forget touching the plate, it's not for beatmatching. Leave the record alone and use the pitch control ONLY. I wish someone had told me that

  • @RootGinger
    @RootGinger Před 16 lety

    Good video J. 2 step garage would have been an easier to understand introduction to music with a 2 step beat. I will get the cam out for a response.
    People seem to be confused by what was said. A D&B beat at it's simplest only has a kick drum on every other beat i.e. beats 1 and 3 and a snare on every other beat in between. i.e. beats 2 and 4. House on the other hand has a kick on every beat and a hi hat on beats 2 and 4. People confuse the snare sound and the kick and hi hat together sound.

      use the pitch bend man :) sometimes you get tracks that just time themselves out of eachother anywayz (i find this happens alot djing like hardtek and shit) use the pitch bend control to keep it in line and just remember what tunes need it
