    • @wdj8991

street walker is slang for prostitute, and party favors are usually sex acts or drugs. Add that to the imagery of licking ice cream cones, tying cherry stems into knots, batting her eyes, etc. I’ve always thought she was talking about that. I don’t think she ever had a pimp or anything, but it sounds like she was known locally as a young girl who would “show you a good time” in exchange for drugs, alcohol, and attention.

    • @wdj8991
      @wdj8991 Před 4 lety +9

And if the song isn’t explicitly about HER, I still think it describes that type of girl. I knew a few in high school. The kind that had their number written on bathroom stalls.

Lana’s albums are such an interesting sonic journey. Especially going through them chronologically. While a couple of them have similar vibes, each one has its own identity and the songs are easily recognizable as being from their respective album. Even so, all the albums still seem to fit together beautifully.
I really hope you listen to the bonus tracks: Without You, Lolita, and Lucky Ones. Without You and Lucky Ones are two of my favorite Lana songs.
I don’t know if I could pick one favorite. Maybe Born to Die, Radio, or Blue Jeans are probably the ones I listen to most. But out of my top 25 most listened to songs, 9 of them are from this album. The song I listen to least, though I still like it, is Carmen.
And I think I’m most curious to see how you feel about Honeymoon.
Anyway, I can’t wait to follow you on your journey to discovering Lana.

Born to die/paradise: alternative pop - 70`s - hip hop - orchestra - a very alternative album (strings, synthesizer)
Ultraviolence: grunge - rock psychedelic - a lot of darkes in it (guitars, drums)
Honeymoon: intimist dreamy pop - more indie album, (so many atmospheres and layers)
Lust for life: hip hop - pop- (the most pop album i think )
Norman fucking rockwell: californian psychedelic rock - dreamy - alternative - (piano and guitars)
    1. I think lana never has tried to fit e¡with all the very commercial female pop stars she build her own way and style that's a merit!
    2. Lana blends a lot of musical genres and styles in one to create her own brand, there is not someone like ker,.
    3. people who listen to rock, hip hop, punk, classical and more underground projects use to like her because she embraced a lot of this thinks and is not a pop diva.
    4. She don't create pop generic, her brand is timeless

i'm just at the part where you're analyzing the video game lyrics and while everyone is open to their own interpretation, i don't think it's him preferring video games over her. i think it's her being so happy and content that she's perfectly happy just sitting there hanging out with him while he plays his video games, has a couple beers, goes skateboarding, just living in the moment :)

You have to listen to her discography in order, to appreciate her evolution and understand her stories. Especially the person « Jim » who will be referenced in many songs (either named in the track or kept nameless). She’s typically into older men (a trivial but important themes to catch). She has a fascination with psychopathy even though that has been left unsaid, but can be supported by Lolita, (BTD Deluxe) Serial Killer, (unreleased), Happiness is A Butterfly (NFR) etc.
She said in an interview that her first love was alcohol, so be careful when listening to a song that you think may be about a person (when in fact it’s about alcohol). Which is why her parents sent her to boarding school, supported in “This is What Makes Us Girls” (BTD Deluxe), “Boarding School” (unreleased)).
Overall, I think she is intrigued by a power dichotomy since she likes older men and Vladimir’s “Lolita” (an older man who falls for a young girl merely because she’s young, innocent, radiates, untouched of the harmful world, etc)
A link to understanding her references that I highly recommend:

also, lana was an alcohol addict in high school, she went a boarding school and she was in rehab for a while when she was young. as you can see, *this is what makes us girls* is about her boarding school friends.
there are a lot of theories about *carmen* but so many people think it's about lana because the line *"lying to herself cause her liquors top shelf,"* it can be a referance to her addiction. some people says it's about *marilyn monroe* too.
*dark paradise* wasn't written for her boyfriend, it was written for lana's dead grandma *madeline,* lana has a "M" tattoo on her hand.
and you should react to national anthem music video it's about jfk's conspiratorial, it's so cinematic.

Also the remix isn’t a part of the official album I’m not sure if that was just a Spotify thing or something. But the deluxe tracks for BTD are amazing as well!!

Summertime Sadness was the 4th single from the album and I don;t even think it was formally released until Cedric Gervais released his remix that charted on Billboard.

fun fact: national anthem was the 1st song that made me a lana fan and get me into more music of hers. it's just something about the chorus that couldn't rid my mind after listening to it and i had to listen again and again until i was curious for more.

Off To The Races is honestly her best song. Lyrically and the production of the song is so upbeat and dark. You can tell from the lyrics that she tells such a dark story and you can observe how in love she was. When she has a high pitch voice in the song, she’s talking about her old man but when she has a lower voice tone, she’s talking to her man. There’s just so much to take out of this amazing song.

It’s funny how you’re reaction is everyone’s first reaction to lana. We fall in love right away and ask ourselves: “where was this music all my life?”. Her music has this cinematographic element, that makes you feel in a movie almost. Sometimes it even makes you feel nostalgic for times that you didn’t even live. She really has that power.
