Love that. Women can't do comedy? Dude, take a break from Bill Burr (str8 guys love him for some reason). Guys only seem to laugh when other guys make fun of people... women, gays, you name it.
Jimmy Carr had said it best on one podcast years ago: "From a comedian's perspective, whenever I saw her on-stage it was like seeing someone doing a sculpture made of marble on-the-spot; whenever I do my set, it felt like I was building something with LEGO blocks. That's how amazing she is."

She's an awesome comic but I'm glad to see she also does voice acting - what an amazing talent.
To think, this was 24 years ago. That set is STILL timeless, but even Moreso after "MeToo" movement.
One of the reasons female comedians are considered "not funny" is bits about female experiences that aren't common for half the human race. It makes them uncomfortable hearing about it and thus "not funny." Comediennes got labeled "bitches" for bringing up these things. Comedy is a rough business for anyone, usually accompanied/driven by depression. It's just made harder by being female. I hope she is mostly okay.

As for "not funny" women hv had to sit thru, and grin n bear it thru jockstrap "humor" since cavemen were grabbin their balls. Its in the delivery.

Maria is the GOAT. I love her work. And speaking as a former temp myself, she nailed the description of temp work. My background was in accounting and auditing when I signed on with a temp agency back in the late '90s. My first three jobs with them were 3 days of selling hot dogs at the Disney race track, 1 day of packing and moving boxes for a travel agency and 1 day of loading flowers arrangements onto refrigerated trucks for delivery on Valentine's Day. It was at least a month before they finally found me a long-term office job that even resembled what I used to do, and even then, I still had to work a second job at night to make enough money to pay my bills until I could get a permanent job with decent pay and benefits. But you do what you've gotta do.

I'm surprised I've never heard of her before. She is quite funny.
I learned about her on the show Comedians of Comedy on Comedy Central. It's sort of a documentary that follows her, Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifinakis, and Brian Posehn as they do a comedy tour together. I really enjoyed it! Kind of a slow-burn look at the realities and tension of being crammed in a small tour bus with sometimes insufferable people who you are trying to have a business relationship with. It's also pretty funny though.

she's so insanely good and if she were a male comedian she'd be as much of a household name as Jim Carrey, or as much of a revered pioneer of the genre as Mitch Hedberg. Just have to say it sucks that female comics who are super talented have to work twice as hard to basically still be given fewer opportunities.

She's done a lot of voice acting as well. Shriek in CatDog (and many other female characters on the show), Pema in Legend of Korra, Miss Beady in Barnyard, Wildberry Princess, Hot Dog Princess, Manfried, and various other characters in Adventure Time.
