    One reason I like this series more than any other on CZcams is how much it emphasises the difficulty and importance of logistics of an army. Whereas most other history battle based channels mainly cover how the individual battles played out due to the tactics and leadership, HM continuously references the significance of food, sickness and manpower of Hannibal’s army, which played a key role in his decision making.

    • @HistoryMarche
      @HistoryMarche  Před 4 lety +81

      Thank you sir. Indeed, a long campaign can be just as, if not more brutal than the battle itself. Not to mention the fact that Hannibal could not replace his most valuable troops, so the balancing act between aggressively seeking battle and trying to preserve his army from attrition/death in battle, was a monumental task.

    • @zeriyx
      @zeriyx Před 4 lety +15

      yeah, i appreciate that as well. one of my gripes about game of thrones for example is that provisions were seldom referenced. i remember daenerys and sansa each referencing one time in eight seasons about what the armies would eat as well as daenerys being upset once about the limited lifestock her dragons were eating. not only that, she used drogon to scorch an entire baggage train that her armies could have utilized lol. it's refreshing to hear a series consistently reference supply issues.

      Josh Berry I like how it’s done in the books, where it goes over every day of the march, noting down how one lord drowned in a lake saving a knight and some horses, or how the snow meant men could advance barely anywhere. It’s a really enjoyable chapter, and one of the best in the series as his army goes from Deepwood to the village, with every day foragers bringing back less and less. In the show it just shows how he’s had a tough time in one scene, rather than the whole march.

      Of course it will. I'm a Hannibal fanboy so don't worry I won't abandon the series. I just have other topics that I need to do as well, but I hope to finish episode 9 in March or early April.

    Thanks for covering my man Fabius and his tactics in detail. Whey get to this point most lessons mention Fabius standing on a hill, weirding Hannibal out with his famous tactics... then skip to Cannae right away, without really describing anything. The fact that Hannibal had to resort to such tactics to escape one of the most fruitful valleys of Rome says quite a lot, and I highly appreciate the detail put into this account!

    I can't stress it enough how beautifully your series capture the cunningness and genius of Hannibal. Before this video, I had him at just about the same category as Caesar, Antony and Napoleon in displaying cleverness on the battlefield. But obviously, The Hannibal is above of them all. The guy is always one step ahead. And more so, there are many examples claiming that roman army was very disciplined, but looking at this, if an army has not routed in the battle of Cannae, Trebia and Ager Falernus despite being hopelessly outnumbered, it clearly shows how disciplined and revered this personality was. This guy is unmatched, i think!!

      i love K&G most of the time, but very often they lose me during the storytelling and backstory bits. i don't know if it's a script issue or voiceover problem, but like that video about the assassins the other day for example - i clicked off after 7 or 8 minutes. History Marche and Epic History TV keep me from beginning to end.
