"War materiel" is actually the correct term. The localization team was on point with this game.
The mech-sized vest pick-up complete with mech-sized hanger cracks me up. I can see 'um standing in front of a mech-sized closet trying to decide what mech-sized outfit to wear.
I burned A LOT of Pesetas coins at a resort as a kid on Armored Warriors arcade version. Never beat it, but the mechs combination thing was just one of the coolest things my Power Rangers addled brain had ever seen.
Are you from Spain? Which part?
@@Dracobyte Nah, Sweden, but a few of my family went to... I think the English name is Cannery Islands, Grand Cannaria or some-such spelling, when I was little.
Don't remember much from that trip, but that hotel had one of THE nicest arcades I've ever seen. It was bright, well lit, and basically spotless despite tons of kids like me burning entire allowances. Twas' a cool little hole in the wall of that place... and Armored Warriors had THE longest line back then.
@@LORDOFDORKNESS42 I see.
In the year 2281, the United Earth Government and the Principalities
of Raia concluded a cease fire agreement ending a war that lasted for half a
century.
One year has passed since that agreement...
The 18th scouting party reported that
the Raian capital "Melkide" has been
captured by an army of unknown origin.
The United Earth Government decided to
dispatch an army to Raia to retake
the capital and rescue the citizens.
However, the true purpose of this operation
was to bring Raia under Earth's control.
once the mysterious army was eliminated.
This fact was never made public...
So, basically, the more things change, the more they stay the same, am I right?
Can you play *Tech Romancer,* next?
Seriously, with Armored Warriors, Cyberbots and Tech Romancer share the same universe, why Capcom didn’t make this into a big franchise like Street Fighter?
Between this and Sunset Riders you’ve really been knocking it out of the park with the plays recently. Love these games
With the rise of beat'em up games, I'm surprised Capcom hasn't tried to bring back any of theirs.
Of all the things people ask Capcom for that’s the one I want the most. A new classic Capcom beat ‘em up with a decent budget. Doesn’t even have to be a sequel to anything. Give me some new characters with that 90s charm. They could even repurpose some characters they aren’t doing anything with.
It would seem surprising at first because Capcom has FF and other good games... On the other hand we realize it's not surprising exactly because this is Capcom.
@@carlosaugusto9821 I'm just saying. Capcom has cool IPs, yet they remain locked inside their vault. Such a waste.
I for one, am not surprised at all. There is a comeback of beat 'EM up in small to medium size games. Indies and smaller studios are going in on the genre.
Capcom is far more interested in trying to make huge AAA games. (outside of collections).
@@emperormegaman3856 Only huge AAA games? Then what was the point of that survey? Games such as Dino Crisis, Breath of Fire and Mega Man received good amounts of votes. But I doubt Capcom is willing to do anything at all with those IPs. I want to be wrong, but knowing Capcom.. probably not. I guess I'll have to wait and see.
14:00 Robots in a jungle is the entire premise of Gundam The 08th MS Team, incredible OVA from the 90's
Front Mission has several missions like that as well.
08th MS Team also has what is arguably one of the best fights in the franchise's history (where Norris precedes to school the protagonist team in his Gouf Custom).
When Matt McMuscles does a video on a game from the "Capcom Beat 'Em Up" compilation (or any Capcom compilation), I had to click on it. 😅
After playing this and Cyberbots, I feel like Capcom missed an opportunity to have a great anime out at the time.
Agreed. Officially or not, _Armored Warriors_ and _Cyberbots_ were basically Capcom's answer to the _Mobile Suit Gundam_ franchise, with the theme of robot fights ripped right off from _Mobile Fighter G-Gundam_ , which, in turn, was basically _Gundam_ meets _Street Fighter_ .
I played a game for the Genesis called Cyborg Justice. That game was also a side-scrolling beat-em-up and also allowed you to take parts from enemies and use them and it was awesome. I wanna play this game because I'm all about that crap.
Oh wow someone else remembers Cyborg Justice
I vaguely remeber playing that beat-'em-up in my youth. I never beat it, but I did its weapons-upgrade mechanic.
Fun fact: I looked into this game a bit online, and it turns out that it does have a bonus ending if you beat it without continuing that does explain where the enemy forces come from.
There is a giant robot beat'em up called Gear Fighter Dendoh for the ps1. Never got an english release but it had a very unique gimmick where boss/rival battles play like a fighting game.
beautiful sprite work in this one :o
There's actually a true ending that is only earned by beating the game without continuing. Every character realizes that their own government was the one who started the war, and becomes disillusioned. They all pretty much quit the military right then and there and try to find some way to cope with the atrocities they committed.
I remember randomly buying this off the Japanese PS3 store back in the day on a whim and really enjoying it and cyberbots,it’s such a nice meaty beatem up 👊
8:36 - It's just a can of water because you're playing solo, in multiplayer Burns will drop a chassis that the players can jump into, transforming into various weapons as they do, it's glorious. Best to agree that the melee weapon drives, and everyone else just spams their weapons.
The thing I love about Armored Warriros is there's a bit of fighting game mechanics that mixes up between weapons, and a lot of them reward good spacing, like getting the claw to latch onto someone. The sprites are also MASSIVE even by brawler standards. It's really hard for me to pick between this, AvP, and Battle Circuit for best of Capcom's Brawling.
"War material" is a real military term. It references resources, and equipment that can be put to use in prosecuting a war.
"Mechs in the jungle" is what 08th MS Team (one of the best Gundam series) is all about, baby
I was actually playing this, Cyberbots, and Battle Circuit last night. Top shelf, next level games. Capcom was really knocking 'em out back then.
Playing this in the Beat 'em Up Bundle with two other people and getting the giant combiner mech is a whole vibe.
Well off the top of my head at the moment is Guardians of the 'Hood. I've only ever seen a cabinet once and it was just a memory after that. I haven't seen anybody even talk about it. I figure it would be a perfect fit here given its close relationship with Pit-Fighter.
We missed the coolest part, all the Mechs combine when you play together in certain levels!
My local arcades were denied this game and it made me big sad; cause I had nearly all the Capcom Beat-em Up cabinets, In The Hunt, all the Metal Slugs, but it didn't have this one and I was deep into my Mecha phase at the time lol
Apparently humans are the baddies in this. From all the details I can find, it turns out the cyborg invasion was engineered by Earth so they could swoop in, save the day, and take control of Raia under the guise of helping them rebuild. Almost none of that is ever explained in the game though, probably because it’s an insanely on-the-nose metaphor for the American occupation of Japan after WWII. “Sorry we blew so much of your country up, but we’ll help put it back together. Also we’re gonna spend the next 50 years trying to turn you into USA Jr., hope that’s okay.”
I got that sting chameleon reference😂😂 awesome sauce !
The music, courtesy of Takayuki Iwai, absolutely ROCKS 🤘😎🤘
That mech selection I can't help wonder if they intended to make a Getter Robo homage, being that Blodia, Reptos and Guldin look like Getter 1, 2 and 3 analogs respectively in both mech and pilot designs
I just played through this a couple weeks ago, it’s easily my second-favorite game in the Beat ‘Em Up Bundle (nothing can top my sweet cheese, my good-time boy Battle Circuit) but I wish the perspective was more zoomed out. It gets so chaotic and the sprites are so big that it’s really easy to lose yourself, especially once you get upgrades that radically change the look (sometimes even the color) of your mech. But it all looks so amazing and the combat is so unbelievably satisfying that at the end of the day, I don’t really care. When I think “big dumb fun in video games,” Armored Warriors is what comes to mind.
Other giant mech beat-em-ups? There's always Mad Stalker - both OG and revamped PS1 versions
Reminds me so much of Metal Warriors in all the best ways.
This game was my favorite arcade beat'em up back in the day. Funny enough, I was already aware of Cyberbots when I first played this, but even after playing that game, this one seems so much more interesting and fun.
Blodia's design is very inspired by Armored Trooper Votoms.
The "Blodan" sure looks like a Scopedog. Matter of fact all them mechs here have a very VOTOMS feel with the wheelie-feet.
This game was one of the main reasons I bought the Capcom Beat em Up collection. I really wish Capcom could put out another collection with Final Fight 2 and 3, AVP, Punisher (even though that's coming in the Marvel collection) and maybe a few others I just don't know about.
The problem is that the only things left are licensed. Yeah, sure, FF2 and 3 I guess? Punisher is only gonna be on the Marvel Collection, and Cadillac's and Dinosaurs Capcom doesn't even own, and it's unclear who has the rights. There really isn't enough out there to justify a whole other collection. Maybe possibly doing DLC to the original beat em up collection makes more sense?
@@flophouseplays I figured that might be the case with AVP. Well that stinks.
Every time I hear Matt say "Raians", it just makes me think of that chain of buffet restaurants (Ryan's) that sadly all went out of business near me.
Seems like all my favorite spots closed up shop. Ryan's, Quincy's, Shoney's, Rafferty's, Hops, The Texas Roadhouse...
HOLY SMOKES! I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS GAME FOR YEARS BUT COULDN'T REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS CALLED!
The world needs a remake or new title with jin saotome and new beat 'em ups you hear me Capcom!? (At least a god hand remake!)
Very interesting that this relatively new game at the time later on got a fighting game spin off with Cyberbots but Armored Warriors is really dope especially when you can combine your robots if you have friends to play with
Wasn't Jeff Perkins actually Jin's father? I remember Jin looking for the truth of his father's disappearance or some such.
Ah yes, the prequel to Tech Romancer and Cyberbots
I love this game! Anything with mechs make me happy combine it with a beat em up is just great.
This is where Cyberbots came from? Damn, I'd love to see a modern release with the same portrait and art direction. Exoprimal could've been this, but with beat 'em up and arena modes in addition to the MOBA.
Very cool how Cyberbots crosses two genres. I wish Capcom made a Street Fighter beat'em up. MegaMan has had RPGs, soccer sims, and 3D adventure games. Why couldn't they have shook up the SF formula?
Man, I love beat 'em ups. Man, I love giant robots.
"callsign: rash"
sweet! does it also feature his brothers, pimple and zitz?
Nice :) I have this on a beat em up compilation.
Now i can cut loose.... FOOT LOOSE! Kick off my Sunday shoes!
13:39 Professor Farnsworth: Jungles on earth? Oh ho ho ho!
Was just using this and Streets of Rage 2 to teach my wife how to play beat 'em ups lol
I've been playing the Beat 'Em Up Bundle and UMvC3 waiting for MvC Collection now.
final fight does have a fighting game its on sega saturn
He knows. he has played it and even made a What happen episode on it. that's why he laugh after saying that's just a "we don't count that one" joke.
Earth blinking like the Primal Rage map!
FINALLY you play this game... Unless you did before and i missed it but wow i am glad to see you playing it lol
The sprite work is really nice in this game but god the flashing is painful. Shame I had to look away for half of this and I don't even have photosensitivity, since it looked a really nice game.
This actually looks good!
Giant robot beat-em-ups other than Armored Warriors? Gundam Musou, Zone of the Enders, UFO ROBOT GRENDIZER - The Feast of the Wolves are the ones I can think of. I guess Dawn of the Monsters kinda counts?
Rash, you lead us to the haedquarter.
"I have to experience it the way people in the arcades experienced it."
You're assuming there were arcades that actually _had_ this game in the first place, Matt. Even my neighborhood's arcades at the time (of which there were somehow _three_ in their heyday) that used to have some of the more obscure arcade games (the cigar shop arcade had The Punisher, AVP, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, even one of the D&D games at one point before SF2 and SF2 Champion Edition popped off, the local pizza shop had a Neo-Geo and a Capcom fighting game, and the candy shop arcade had Sega's Spider-Man, Pac-Land, Baby Pac-Man Pinball for fk's sake, among others) and the big Pizza Hut in Westchester, NY by the highway that used to have, among others, six-player X-Men didn't have this game.
You plan on playing the other Capcom beat em ups like The King of Dragons, Knights of the Round, and Warriors of Fate?
Immediate like for that Story of Ricky reference
Damn. these mechs are coool
This game had terrible distribution in the U.S. I never saw it until MAME and I went to different arcades alot. It's sick and I would've played the shit outta this one.
Weird, I just started playing this game again, trying to 1cc it like yesterday.
You should try Robocop 2 the arcade game by data east. I think you'll really like it Matt
roomer has it that Rash of Armored Warriors is Jin Saotome's father
Capcom arcade collection I play this game really good🎉
Cyberbots has some moves which is imspired by Cammy and I think if I remember correctly it uses some music from Darkstalkers. I might be wrong
Love mechs love this game
So Blodia had two different pilots according to the Cybots lore?
Play Warriors of Fate
Metal Warriors when
Love this game.🤘😆🤘
I didn't know that Capcom made a beat em up game based on Cyberbots. It really makes sense to turn this fighting game into a beat em up spin off title.
Other way around.
I was saying boo urns
Damacus gear???????????
Final Fight 3 would be nice to see.
Played it over on the main channel
