"We are the Nation, of Domina- uh... Mutation!"
Huge deep cut there. Nice one!
"His physiology is all fucked up, he's got things where he shouldn't, it's like AI art."
That cracked me up. :'D
This game is like a bunch of mutants hanging out, then they see a regular guy walking down the street and attack him out of spite. "You don't even need your clothes specially tailored!"
"We are, we are, the Mutations of the Nation" - P.O.D. probably.
Ricky Jones (red head) and Johnny Hart (Black dude). Story is mad scientist exposed the city to a virus that "mutated" everyone.
This is what Defenders of Dynatron City wishes it was.
Man there's just something about those Neo Geo "how to play" presentations, you know?
Mutation Nation sounds like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arc and the villains are very interesting with the main guy becoming the alien with his head as his junk😭🤣
I use to play this in the mornings at a local gas station when I was waiting for the bus to go to school.
We had this in the arcade on campus. It was such a weird looking and sounding game, the only story bit was in the attract mode (scientist mutated a city, threatens the world, blah blah blah not sure why yours doesn't have it). The way everything melted into goo when you beat it was strange too. Our version was set to superhard too I think, because we only started with 3 blocks of health so to make any progress you had to "git gud" fast or pump in a ton of change. I think my best run made it as far as the ant-things. Not a GREAT game, but I still have fond memories of playing it with my friends.
Oh man this brings back memories! When me and my friends discovered KOF '95 swore Ricky Jones was the prototype of Kyo Kusanagi since they looked so similar.
God does anyone remember that simpsons arcade game that Konami did?
I miss playing that game in my LIFE!
This would’ve been an awesome Troma movie. No story and all, just mutants getting beat up 😂🔥
You're playing as Ricky Jones. The two players you play as are Ricky Jones & Johnny Hart.
If they ever get a sequel, I want it to be called “Mutation Damnation”.
I wanna a cross over of this vs toxic avenger!
That guy below on thumbnail seems like Kyo Kusanagi from KOF; dunno why his hair color is red in game tho
Ok, there IS an intro sequence, but only in the console version. All it does is flash the letters 19XX, then SLUM, then the mad scientist's face appears and goes away while laughing, then you get that thunderous title screen.
David Hayter is the GOAT. Skip Guyuver 1 and watch Guyver: Dark Hero
Guyver one wasn't AWFUL. I mainly loved the monster suits. 😂 The series was quite good though tbh. Better than I expected, even as a kid
The villain chewing the scenery and Mark Hamill as a giant cockroach is worth it.
Juggling strikes me as a feature that originally appeared by accident, and then developers started designing for it.
You should check out more Taito arcade games like Champion Wrestler and Pu-Li-Ru-La. They're all a bit off, in a good way.
That is exactly how juggling came to be a standard in video combos.
Okay, the docks thing is legit because a lot of criminal behavior takes place around the large scale shipment of illegal products.
For example: The Yakuza would get around Japanese gun restrictions by buying them at American gun shows across the country, driving them to California and shipping them to Japan from docks that they owned through various front companies.
Eeeeeeeeeee! The plushies have shiped, and mine are here! 🎉
One of my favs as a kid. Banging music big impressive sprites and learning best times to use the power ups. Also finding that holding directions changes your combo was cool.
The football guys are actually kinda clever, they're like a nautilus but they have a football helmet instead of the shell
Watching Matt play these old Arcade beat 'em ups has really made me realize how much of that time and these old SNK games just blend together in my memory now. Because some of this game *feels* so familiar, yet it could easily be another similar title.
The design for the dudes with the bomb heads in Area 2 really make me think of specifically Jojolion STAND design
Ricky Jones, the player 1 character, looks a bit like Kyo.
9:55 SHOCKER!!!
I don't remember you playing Vendetta (AKA Crime Fighters 2)? Checked both your channels and the general google and couldn't find it. Vendetta and Crime Fighters are both beat 'em ups that my childhood hold near and dear. Crime Fighters is super basic, but it has cool pixel art.
The main character in this game looks like Red Hair Kyo
Yeah, I'm not planning to visit this nation anytime soon.
..... i remember seeing this in a local pizza place growing up, in one of those combo Neo-Geo arcade machines.
Mutation Nation was only referenced by a target combo the male MC of NGBC had, since the OC's attacks are mostly named after other SNK games.
"HOW DARE YOU BEAT ME?!
HEAR IS YOUR GRAVEYARD!" (c)
There's a brief story intro in the AES / home version, FWIW
The brand new mutation that’s sweeping the nation
There's a very brief into screen you just see a scientists guy and a paragraph about Slum in 200X
I remember a fan emulater where they needed a fourth character so the made Ash Williams from Evil Dead
Did anyone else just assume this was a McKids sequel? The two characters look like grown up versions of those kids
So, the game's story is that mad scientist does unethical experiments, gets shut down, his whole lab explodes, where his lab was becomes a slum and people just forget about it. Fast forward to the future, our heroes just return from a vacation and the city is overrun by mutants so they decide to just punch them down into oblivion.
It was either the tight jeans, headband, and leather jacket or tight t shirt it was pretty much greaser kung-fu stereotype characters of beat em ups and yeah it seemed to be extremely popular for a long time with beat em ups
Those Wonder Twins might be one of the worst bosses I have seen.
1:20. Whoa, that's very similar to one of the Splatterhouse level themes.
Hey, Matt McMuscles. You should definitely do a playthrough of Sengoku 3 and play as Kurenai and Okuni (although you have to defeat her in Stage 2 before you can play as her in Stage 3). Please play this 2001 Neo Geo beat 'em up title.
Sengoku 2 is also worth looking into. Both these games are probably the best beat 'em ups on the system. Haven't played Final Vendetta.
2:22 - What are those?!
26:23 - Hear, lol
I love the character designs!
The squid head guys are just the Ood from Doctor Who.
beating muties to a pulpy goo, this has to be craydon creeds favorite game : P
Do the Cthulhu men have Ramon from Kof’s fighting stance??
I don't know what it is, there's something about the enemy designs that feel weirdly uninspired despite being so alien, like they're "boardroom approved" and it made me oddly bored by the graphics. Unfortunate for a beat-em-up!
From what i've read, this game got a full production start, but was put on hold for at least a year because of the one on one fighter craze happening and was finished by just a single guy who picked up the project again. That could explain why the enemy designs are well done, but the animations of the characters overall leave a lot to be desired.
That second player character is clearly Billy Blanks.
Juggling bosses in a fight is bizarre.
Okay so this is the Arcade version aka the MVS version and hear me out, the AES version actually has a demo crawl story sequence, barebones as it is. Which I always felt was ass-backwards but well.
@BasementBrothers did a really good video explaining all aspects of this game. Worth checking out!
Mutant Nation boss leader: “okay, we’ve getting reports that some of you are wearing tattered rags as desperate attempt to hold on to your previous life as a human. Remove your garbs and embrace your new mutant body.”
Man, Mutant Nation needs to become a competitive fighter! Shiva / D’Vorah would be a cool character model, maybe Netherrealm should invest in character fusions?
I like when the rat/wolf guys transform, they lose the back of their jeans. Like just ass out for no reason.
My Matt McFighter plush showed up today! Secured #1 and he's awesome!
Also I think it doesn't show any story intro 'cause you've inserted the coins already.
It's often the case that the demo plays only while no one operating the cabinet but if someone throw a coin there it tries not wasting your time, alas it shows some gameplay instead.
This video unlocked memories I forgot I had LOL
Breaking News! K-Mart Brand Kyo Kusanagi saves Neo Tokyo from Power Ranger mutants, story at 11!
Speaking of, has Matt also played Mutant Rampage: Bodyslam on the CD-i?
Hmm... I'm having a thought here. People have been asking for Bloody Roar to come back, right? Well... how about a beat'em up Bloody Roar game?
I wished this one into existence!
That Night Slashers Remake is looking like.......a MOBILE GAME...........
This is such an '80's anime.
Ohhhh one I've actually played !
The switch version came out a day before Mario Odyssey
These sprites should be reproduced as 4 inch action figures, they could use the fortnight molds to swap parts, at most some new heads would be the only cost, besides I don't want to miss my chance to troop build the calamari boys, or gopher men🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
3:23 Cancer Mice
I can hope next your video! See you again.
The mutations were the nations we made along the way
I hope you watched enough of the first Guyver movie to see what happens to Mark Hamill.
Let's just say, Kafka would be proud.
If they are a "mutation nation", is the player a "invader"? Are we the "baddies"?
torneado attack? nead!
Nice :) I just played through this last month.
Let's go!
The Mutation Nation was the shitty fighting moves we found along the way
It just looks so stiff, Knights of the Round over at Capcom the year before feels way more coherent. Admittedly I'm biased, KotR is probably my favourite brawler from that era.
Have you done Burning Fight?
Play combat tribes
Where do I find this game
Mutation nation where pegulins and bats get freaky while winnie the pooh watches and laughs maniacaly.
This game is Basically SNK’s Beast busters mixed with final fight
