  • The time has come to replace our RV Steps!! After damaging our steps in Season 1 they was never the same and becoming harder and harder to use. So after research I found the perfect Replacement steps for our 5th wheel. The TorkLift GlowStep Revolution just bolted right in to our existing framing from our old step! Just 4 bolts to take out the old step and 4 bolts to put in the GlowSteps! Such an easy install that 1 person can do it but having 4 hands is much easier.. Laine to the rescue!! I also share my review of it after using it for 2 months and our likes and dislikes!

    I have the same steps! Couple of things I have learned - at least with my four step model - you can push the top step in and effectively give your self only three steps should the ground dictate that is all you need! On the side of the scissors there are key bolts that can be ever so slightly loosened to make the pulling out and pushing in easier. Solid review.

    I love these steps. I installed them on our 2017 Grand Design Reflection 303rls when we purchased in. I just traded for a 2019 Grand Design Reflection 320MKS but I kept my steps. My wife has bad knees which is why we bought them originally. I used a small floor jack and some plywood to remove the old ones and support the glow steps. I’m not a mechanical guy but install was a piece of cake. I paid for mine straight from the factory but they were worth every penny.

    Our first RV was a Cougar fifth wheel. And we had a folding 3 step. Never had any issues with it at all. But now we have a Class A. Which steps are automatic. But there's a magnet in there by the door. So when the door opens the steps come down. But there's one thing that you have to watch for. It's the magnet. We have had to have ours replaced. Just like anything else. They wear out and lose their magnetic power. We also bought those carpet type things that strap on the steps. It just helps protect them and gives you some traction also. Something to look into. A lot of RV'ers use them on their fifth wheel, travel trailers and Class A. But just be careful on your Class A is when the steps go out that your RV isn't to close to the ground and that you have clearance for the steps or it will tear them up. One thing is that as you know Diesel fuel can be expensive. We carry the Pilot fuel card. It's like a credit card with Zero interest. It gives you a discount on your fuel. Gas and Diesel. The only catch is that it has to be paid in full every month. And with a Class A and towing. You can't just get in any fuel station. And at Pilots you use the fuel lanes the Semis use. So you have better clearance to turn and everything. And they are located just right off the interstate. And Pilot has a App to use to give you any information that you might need. Come on back to East Tennessee you all.

    My son help me install the new steps. Took us 20 minute to remove the old steel steps and install the Torklift steps. Quality seems good but the treads are not parallel which is annoying. If I adjust the legs to make the top step level (front to back) each step below gradually increases in tilt (front higher than back). If I make the bottom step level the each step above increased in tilt (back higher then front). The top step has a significate downward slope that it is unconformable to walk out of the door. I end up putting wood under the legs to get a happy median. My 5th wheel measures 37 1/2" from the level ground to the top of the step well. I ordered the recommended 4 step unit. If I ever get on a site where the grade drops as you move away from the door then I'll have to adjust the stairs to the lowest of the 3 setting which makes for an super tall step into the camper. I would prefer 5 steps of shorter rise.
    I give them a 5 for construction, 5 for ease of installation, and 3 for function. They are still a hell of a lot better than the steel springy steps we had.

  • @gossumx
    @gossumx Před 3 lety

    You should try spraying the hinges with some graphite or lithium grease to see if it makes their function more smooth.

    Great video and demo. However, it appears that the steps are canted leaning toward the RV and not perfectly level/flat. If the steps are slanted at all then it would be dangerous when wet. Are the steps canted in the video or just looks that way? Also have you used the steps when wet?

    • @LoftisPartyofSix
      @LoftisPartyofSix  Před 4 lety

      They might have been canted in the video or just looked that way. I really can’t tell. However they are adjustable so that they can be level. And yes we used when wet and they were very solid and not slippery.
