How to LS Swap your S10 | Ep.6 Drive by Cable to Drive by Wire Conversion

- Today we take a truck that was setup for drive by cable and now it needs drive by wire. Most if not all 6.0L ls engines came with electronic throttle so we need to adjust to it. I have always had cable issues due to the truck not originally having a v8 in it, I am hoping the drive by wire solves some of my issues. I go over all the things you will need and where to connect all wires. Enjoy!

I know you were in the mindset of saying" you can do it" and you are super smart, but I dont wanna now! You convinced me to not do the swap😅 I have 1993 S10 and I have a complete 2004 full size truck with a 4.8 for a donor. Then, I recently bought a LS1 T56 6 speed manual, and decided to go ahead with doing the swap, but it just seems like way more work than I want to tackle right now. I'm just gonna do a traditional small block and T5- 5 speed for ease. The clearance issues, the wiring for drive by wire, losing all the AC and heater, exhaust issues, chopping the frame, oil pan, brake mods,power steering mods, etc, etc. Its just too much right now. Thanks guy! No videos yet but gen 3 or gen 4 there really isnt much different. Just dont get one with that Displacement on demand. The computer is different and the gen 4 rods are stronger. Other than that bolts in the same.
How you doing. Love the channel. How did you wire the plug to the throttle body
The orange wire goes to pin 14 blue connector and the drk blue/white goes to pin 15 blue connector. The other wires go to the bcm module that the pedal plugs into. Thats just a matter of matching the colors.
I would love it if you could give me the wiring diagram for the pedal to tAC and tAC to throttle body.
As in pin to pin. I have the six wire pedal but can’t find a pin out for it
So I’m thinking about ls swapping a 01 s10. The 5.3 came out of a 03 Tahoe with drive by wire, I have the complete Tahoe. I don’t need anything else to take care of this problem right ? Everything I need is in the Tahoe ?

I wanting to replace my 2003 5.3 engine with a lower mileage one. Mine is drive by wire and I’m looking at a 2002 that is drive by cable. Would I be able to swap intakes and use my stock harness and my ecu? Or what??? Anyone know?
Just use your og intake from the drive by wire setup and the throttle body
@@southerngearz and just use my stock harness and ecu right? It’s the same engine so the ecu shouldn’t notice a difference?
Did you just change the plenum to get the drive by wire
The plenum and the made sure the ecu I was using supported drive by wire then all the drive by wire stuff(pedal, bcu and throttle body)
I’m ls swapping a 6.0 from a 02 Yukon Denali but it’s drive by wire and I want to convert it to drive by cable do I use the same module that you picked up I bought the whole truck
You could get a drive by cable harness/pcm or...you could convert you're harness. You only have to add two connectors. 1 for Idle Air Control motor, and 1 for Throttle Position Sensor. Total of 7 wires. I have done this, and used the wires originally for the electric throttle body. Then added the 7 wires to the PCM connectors, and solider/heat shrink to correct wires from the TAC module connector.
As for the PCM, not sure on that one. I know the 2003 Express van's still had cable throttle where the 2003 Pickups had DBW, and used the SAME PCM.

Hey bud do you have to have the computer from drive-by-wire or can you use the Cable One
Its possible but if you can use the ecu pedal and tac module from the same vehicle will make things go more smooth.
Did you have to take off the tps and iac pins from the ecu connector?
Nah I left them there just in case I went back to cable
@@southerngearz I tried the same thing u did but it didn’t want to work when u stepped on pedal the throttle body opened once and stopped working
@@carlosg8873 and you got the bcm that the pedal was plugged into also its a pedal from the same model year as your pcm
@@southerngearz the pcm no it’s from a 2002 5.3 that came with my swap I have the blue and red harness
When I first did the conversion i tried to use a newer pedal and bcm from 2011 but my computer is 06 and it didnt work.
why convert? to DBW??
No real good reason other than that was what the computer was set for and didnt feel like swapping computers
So the dbc module wouldnt work with the dbw?
Yea the way I understand it is the drive by cables only do drive by cable but a drive by wire can do both.
