      Parents today: Hmm the previews say its Rated R. Eh it's a comic movie it should be okay. (Gets to the theater where the ticket seller tells her the film is rated R and not suitable for children) Hmm...I think they're trying to tell something but I'm not sure what. (Walks past group that just saw it talking about one of the murder scenes in detail). Wow! That sounds really violent oh we need popcorn. (Sits down as all the red band trailers play.) Man I would never take my kids to see a horror film. Good thing we're at this R rated comic film. (Movie plays) Oh it's so horrible. Why didnt anyone warn me?

    Todd Phillips succeeded where Zack Snyder tried. You shouldn’t strive to be dark and realistic. While I did like Man of Steel, it felt kind of like a dead end and BvS just was a mess. I love Joker though. Joaquin Phoenix was amazing and I truly hope this gives WB the confidence to do more stories like Joker with their own flavor of course.

    This point is really good. I thought joker was a great movie and to me it’s fine that it gets inspiration from taxi driver and the King of Comedy. People criticizing it for being similar movies is fine to me but when people say negative things just because it doesn’t fit their political narratives baffles me. They’re no better than those toxic conservatives criticizing Captain Marvel for being “SJW propaganda” and it proves that nobody can have fun anymore now a days without someone bringing up real life politics into something fictional.

      @@That0therGeorge Well, allow me to correct myself, it is Patch Adams, not Robinson. So basically, Patch Adams was this guy that liked to make people smile and was portrayed in a movie starring Robin Williams. We saw that Joker was initially trying to make kids laugh and smile and felt that was his purpose. Both Patch and Joker recieved backlash, for lack of a better word, when people said "Leave my kid alone." The difference is that Patch wasn't quite as mentally twisted although he had committed himself into an asylum.

    I thought this movie was just OK. When I first saw the trailers I thought it was just a movie about a Joker who was just a discount Heath Ledger. Still, I thought it would stand out from the current state of the DC universe and be a step in the right direction. Then the news decided it was a movie for terrorists, and the 4chan shitheads latched onto it and didn't really help anything.
    At the end of the day though, I thought it was just ok. I liked the grimy atmosphere and the creepy, unpredictable character interactions. But on the other hand, I think they should've explored more of the lore of the Gotham, showing the characters and locations from a different angle, instead it's just a clown-themed reskin of arthouse movies that already exist.

    • @thetinfoilhatter5268
      @thetinfoilhatter5268 Před 4 lety

      That0therGeorge He was pretty interesting to watch, I felt bad for his character even though he acted slimy and uncomfortable the whole time, the movie did feel like it followed his spiral into madness and rediscovering himself as a supervillain. It’s just that I see no reason they couldn’t have explored the DC universe in more depth from this depressing new angle. My favourite thing about Batman is how people can deconstruct the reality of the character and the motivation of the villains to be the way they are, but his motive for hating the Waynes in the movie feels cheap and silly, and although I liked seeing why the everyday citizens were stirred into crime, I feel disappointed that there wasn’t more substantial worldbuilding here. Since the movie is so similar to Scorsese films that inspired it, it should focus on the brand of being Serious Cinema *that is also set it a goofy comic book universe*. Instead, the only defining trait it has is some vague political themes and a place in the public eye due to some frivolous Controversy.
      That’s just my five cents though

    • @thetinfoilhatter5268
      @thetinfoilhatter5268 Před 4 lety

      That0therGeorge Not really, you could’ve just changed a few character and place names and it would’ve just been a psychological drama about a bunch of random people in New York.
      When I play the Arkham games for instance, I’m invested in learning about what makes all the villains tick, and by reading lore and listening to dialogue and audio logs, you slowly get the idea that the problems of Gotham are a lot bigger and more complex than who Batman is required to punch next. One of my favourite characters is Anarky from Arkham Origins, where he believes the city is corrupted from within and needs to be overturned with violence, which is basically the main conflict of the clowns in the movie.
      But I guess the thing about Joker is that he’s much more defined by *what* he is than *why* he is. He doesn’t need a motivation because he only cares about spreading madness, death and destruction. That’s not to say that I take any issue whatsoever with him getting a backstory, but there are tons of other villains and heroes and bystanders and in-betweeners living in Gotham, and not one of them gets so much of a cameo. It feels like there’s hardly any point in making it a DC movie at all.
      But hey, maybe I’m just being petty, they’re making a new Batman movie where he fights Riddler and Penguin, so I guess they might give us more insight into the universe there

  • @apophisssss80
    @apophisssss80 Před 4 lety

    I went to see joker expecting fun family fun.
    Was there fun?
    Was there family?
    I'll just say this:
    For a family fun movie... this movie had minimal families, and un-fun. "Joker" is anything but. Most of his jokes involve mean bad things that I personally. don't. want. my kids. to know. about.
    Example of how a scene COULD have gone
    Joker: "Knock knock, it's me, the joking joker" Man: "Who?? Get away, I don't know any joker"
    This scene would have illustrated the nature of jokes.
    The movie completely falls apart in the 78th act. "Joker" begins as a mild mannered man, but he ends as a medium tangy spicy mannered man. This was my favorite part of the movie -- the spice is just what I needed to spice up my life. That's when I made a realization -- am I the jokers? Let me explain...
    On the surface, "Joker" seems like it's just a movie about the difficulties of clown. However, when you delve a little deeper, you'll realize that the movie theater seats are not comfortable and the arm rests do not raise. Most of the seats cannot even hold a large drink, so why even sell them in that theater?
    Okay so now lets get to the negative part of the review. At exactly 1 hour and 38 minutes into the film, you can clearly see a baby smoking in the bottom right part of the screen. That's when I draw the line. A baby smoking? I then look over at my 38 year old baby and I see he picked up this trait from the movie. I don't want to spoil anything but I don't like the fact that he died at the end. Not even in a cool way. Dude just trips. Now if he tripped on a banana, then I would understand the joke. But now I sit here in my **** dimmly lit 400 sq ft apartment with my two kids and I am still trying to figure out what the joke was of this movie. Overall I think this movie is 10/10. I guess you could say that "joker" was a movie that really CLOWNED me?
