These are some great ideas I may even start including some in my 1942 copy. I especially love the entrenched Japanese soldiers rule

Good video dude. I still have my original A & A game but we play it so infrequently we've never needed to adjust anything. There are basic opening moves we'd always do but the dice can definitely sway the game no matter what side you play. Glad it's still popular, trying to get my son into it now.

Your care and attention to the old game is wonderful. It is a timeless masterpiece that simply needs a few adjustments like what you have outlined. o7

I’m working on just simple adjustments to Classic, make the cost of units the same as the later versions as well as the defense /attack factor+capabilities of each units- add destroyers +artilleries(perhaps Cruisers as well)with same capabilities+placement as later versions, of course use a couple of the optional rules for balance! I just got to get some players to help playtest it over the CZcams someday!!!

I remember the good old days when I started playing this game with my neighbor in Munich in the late 1990s. One easy fix for Germany in both North Sea and Med was to demand that you need two movement points to pass Gibraltar and Denmark. And you can only pass if you possess Gibraltar and Western Europe. So Germany cannot raid the Atlantic with surface vessels from the Med unless they conquer Gibraltar first. Same for the Allies: Germany is out of reach unless they take Western Europe first. Sometimes demanding two movement points is easier than changing the map. Today I mainly play Anniversary Edition, but I plan to step up to Global 1940. It's just a matter of game time. Classic A&A could be finished within a few hours on one evening. The other two games take up to 8 hours easily.

I applaud gamers who are not afraid to make house rules, or adjust rules for board games. I have met too many gamers who seem to think that changing rules is a cardinal sin, or that there is no way you can improve a game, or that you dont have the skills to change the rules...or...your attempts are not possible. I have heard it all. I enjoy working on different rules and approaches, and sometimes, I get to appreciate the actual rule for what they are. And, I learn a lot about game design too.

I agree 100 percent. Designers don't own your copy of the game. They sold it to you -which means it's yours ..to play any way you like.

Some great ideas. I need to get into this version, it looks quite quick paced and eventful.

Nice video, I first played in 1986, before the 2nd edition. Commander in Chief was the original atom bomb in function, I feel removing these rules was a big mistake, making it a technology development would have been much better, if you don't have that technology, your units can't participate. In my last gaming group we used free technology, rolling 2D6's and consult your own custom technology chart, it more realistically similuates the war and is much more entertaining. As one technology is developed, new ones are added to the custom technology chart, buying tech tokens also is allowed but they must first rill a 6 unlike the free each turn, 3 for the allies and 3 for the axis. My favorite was the $5 cannon, A1,d4 and move 1. We used every expansion technology and made up more, enough for 24+ game turns. Free technology ensures nobody goes broke and can build units.

Hi, great vid...I'm a big original A&A player from way back. I have a bunch of my own rules, maps, units... My personal fav is the Chinook. It's a 1/3, cost was 10 (I think), and it could move 1 Infantry 2 spaces and land in the territory if you won it. I think those were the rules as it's been a while since I've played. I also made a deck of cards to go with it called The Cards or War.
But a question for you based on this video...what about Tanks at 3/3 and Battleships with 2 hit points?

      @goldsack7919  Před 2 lety +4

Thanks for the feedback. The 3/3 tanks were a feature of A&A revised edition. They might be used as a tech advancement for the original version or perhaps as a normal rules mod. I have also played 2 hit battleships in original A&A. That is another popular mod I should have mentioned.

The classic Axis and Allies Milton Bradley game was clunky and somewhat broken, especially if playing with veteran players. The game can be fixed by using a handful of house rules. These rules balance the game, while still keeping the Allies the stronger faction as they were historically and also these rules can make the game somewhat more historical. Try these rules:
    1. Always play with the Russia Restricted rule.
    2. Move the factory and AA gun from Karelia to Caucus.
    3. Aerial units can only attack submarines when friendly naval units are engaged in the battle.
    4. Both Axis countries can place a free factory and AA gun before the start of the game.
    5. Neutral nations can never be attacked, moved through or occupied.

Good video. However, I think you under appreciate the effect/benefit of bidding. There are at least two viable German strategies with bidding which are Power Europe or Power Africa when Russia is unrestricted. When restricted the bid is much lower, but can at least provide Germany a viable Africa expansion for a few turns. Also, you can introduce naval bidding (only naval units). Or a mix...like no more than 2 ground units can be built with the bid.

    I love A&A.
I normally play the Axis and I normally play with two different games. (1)the normal A&A board with (2) midway game board
I start out with the normal play user do not attack Germany unless Germany attacks ussr then I use the midway game when the USA enters the war. My first move is normally attacks the uk first 7 out of 10 I normally invade the uk on the first turn.

I have the same problem.. mainly because I work midnights 6 days a week. Try posting on message boards to see if there is anyone close to you. Also Colleges or universities usually have game clubs. Hopefully you can find some people.

Look to see if you get a copy of World war 2 the expansion versions 1 ,2 and 3 for use with Axis and Allies. It's older sure but it has everything you are saying plus great additions that give the game a chess like feel. Was made by Gamers Paradice .
