I agree this should be a thing in the future, but without women tournaments they wouldn't get any representation simply because there arent enough good women players to compete in major tournament. This isnt because of genetics and its simply just numbers, there are significantly more men that play so we should expect that significantly more men are in the top 1% of players, and participate in the biggest tournaments. Women are in fact allowed to participate in these tournaments if they qualify but it usually doesnt happen, or they rather compete in the womens tournaments. Removing womens tournaments would get rid of their representation if we were to do it right now

BTW, almost all of these "men vs women" differences can be explained simply be assuming that the two distributions of men and women are statistical equal in their average but the men's distribution has more spread. Their is certainly some truth to this statement, girls have become GMs as early as 15, anyone who can become a GM at that age is certainly very talented and hardworking, the problem starts from there, once they become a GM, they almost stop playing open tournaments all together. Women chess is certainly a good event to attract more girls to the sport but it's a double edged sword, it also acts as a deterrent once a women player becomes a GM, they choose to play in the women only event because it gives them a better chance of earning more money in the short term, they become complacent. Judit exclusively played open and made it as far as candidates. The only fast way to make women stronger forcefully is to ban women chess after a certain age for example 18-21. After this age all women will be compelled to play at open

Women's chess is less televised and marketed, prize pools are generally smaller, very good women players are less glamorous than men. Until that's fixed we'll have disparity, which I believe is what Magnus is saying when he refers to the environment.

The difference is that as they age, increased testosterone makes men more competitive and therefore more likely to dedicate their entire life to being good at a single game. Hence why there is no difference at a young age. There are just less adult women obsessed with the chess to such a degree that they could become a champion, because there is generally less of an emotional reward from being “the best” as women don’t find the idea of “beating” the competition to be as gratifying. Again these are all extremely general statements but they have an impact of the number of female chess players. Since champions like Magnus are 1 in a 1000 in terms of GMs, and there are far less women GMs, it will just take a while for a “female Magnus” to appear. You see it in chess, you see it in gaming, this pretense that boys are encouraged and women aren't.
The truth is that men have always been insulted for being obsessed with chess, or gaming, ESPECIALLY by women. It's just that they didn't care.
It was always the girls calling the boys nerds, and making gaming a social stigma among adolescence, and now suddenly they're acting the victim, the gal is astonishing.
I will tell you why women aren't world chess champions. It's because evolutionary speaking its advantageous for women to cluster around the mean, while it's evolutionarily advantageous for men to inhabit the extremes. That is true for almost every metric, but in this case we don't need to go further than one single metric, namely obsession. If you take any activity, especially ones that are object oriented, and look at the people most obsessed with said activity, they will almost always be men. And it's simply obvious that the more obsessed you are with something, the more time and energy you spend on it, and the better you get.
And yes, this difference doesn't really manifest until puberty, so seeing girls be as interested as boys isn't unexpected.
If the problem was that people were actually wrong, you'd provide evidence instead of insults, but you don't, because insults are all you have, which is ironic since this entire conversation is about whether men are more or less encouraged, and all you're doing is showing yet another example of the barrage of bs they have to face each day. Women aren't just not held back, they're being encouraged by an army of lemmings who will stand up for them and insult anyone who dares actually think about things.
Unfortunately for you you can't just pull out the sexism of the gaps and assert that any difference in gender representation must be the result of sexism, you have to prove it, which you can't.

Men and women should participate in the same tournaments. Chess after all is not a physical competition
Men have larger brains and are generally more analytical and logical than women. There will never be a female world chess champion.
I agree this should be a thing in the future, but without women tournaments they wouldn't get any representation simply because there arent enough good women players to compete in major tournament. This isnt because of genetics and its simply just numbers, there are significantly more men that play so we should expect that significantly more men are in the top 1% of players, and participate in the biggest tournaments. Women are in fact allowed to participate in these tournaments if they qualify but it usually doesnt happen, or they rather compete in the womens tournaments. Removing womens tournaments would get rid of their representation if we were to do it right now

Men do have an advantage at the upper echelons of chess, but even then women do have some advantages over men, such as the fact that they are better at memorization and focused studying, which are both incredibly important to becoming a top chess player. The reality is that there is no biological reason a woman CAN'T be a top chess player. It matters from individual to individual but Magnus' point is that there's no a biological reason why the best chess player in the world COULDN'T one day be a woman. And on that he's 100% right.

Funny how everyone criticises Fischer because he said women were bad at chess in the 60s when it was true; yet often give Kasparov a pass for saying basically the same thing in the 90s while Judit Polgar was kicking ass and taking names.
In 2017, Garry Kasparov said he realized that he held a wrong view and reversed his stance, I don't believe Fischer ever had that reversal of stance.

Magnus spoke about environment hostility and not genetic reason for being less strong. Fischer(who I remind you was born in 1943 and dead in 2008, and the video where he said those things about women were filmed when he was young) said that they're not on par as men, but didn't talk about the reasons.
Truth is that nobody have proof that the problem is not the environment, who says otherwise is just ideologically motivated.
Very similar thing happening in skateboarding, its crazy how much women skaters have progressed in the past decade since they've been more accepted in the sport. You can't thrive in a social sport/activity if you don't feel safe and socially welcome.
BTW, almost all of these "men vs women" differences can be explained simply be assuming that the two distributions of men and women are statistical equal in their average but the men's distribution has more spread. That explains more geniuses as well as more homeless people among the men. I'm not saying this is the complete explanation, just a possible part of it.
The real answer for me is that women in general don't care about the game, simple as that, and therefore there are massively underrepresented. Just like engineering and TI.

Given that we still have crazy social pressures filtering men and women down certain paths, I don’t think a fair comparison could be made of the two sexes. Women's chess is less televised and marketed, prize pools are generally smaller, very good women players are less glamorous than men. Until that's fixed we'll have disparity, which I believe is what Magnus is saying when he refers to the environment.

i strongly believe that women are under a pressure men will never be, there were a recent drama and many women accused a GM who did some bad things to them, so i think a LOT of woman quit chess because of this enviroment where big chess houses and tournaments concent this behaviour from male GMs
The difference is that as they age, increased testosterone makes men more competitive and therefore more likely to dedicate their entire life to being good at a single game. Hence why there is no difference at a young age. There are just less adult women obsessed with the chess to such a degree that they could become a champion, because there is generally less of an emotional reward from being “the best” as women don’t find the idea of “beating” the competition to be as gratifying.
Again these are all extremely general statements but they have an impact of the number of female chess players. Since champions like Magnus are 1 in a 1000 in terms of GMs, and there are far less women GMs, it will just take a while for a “female Magnus” to appear. It’s inevitable
Of course there’s cultural factors as well but I think in general this is a reality in competitive sports of all kinds, physical or not, and a reason men comprise a majority even at sports they have no actual physical advantage at

Yeah, but it could be argued that that’s a byproduct of a patriarchal society which encourages men to compete and women to be more passive. We’ve seen competition between women rise in recent years as women become more socially free. However, a biological role absolutely could be a part of it.
In my experience women are more competitive but they're less likely to take a loss as a personal matter, whereas men tend to generally take it personally enough to push them towards obsessive improvement.

If we look just at that then "on average men don't care as much about winning!" (where winning is defined as a medical career). You can do this for a lot of stuff like childcare, education, cosmetology, some genres of music actually.
Sports in general have a history of being unfavourable to women so using that as a benchmark to gauge the competitive drive of women across the globe is kinda insane.
