IM a nobody with 200 ranking on chess....so my question is why did SIR MAGNUS waste his first pawn without any defense, why was it left open just to be taken., there must be something if he did it.

I completely agree. For me that was the best part. A man of his class wouldn't accept her offer of a re-match. His inevitable win would have completely taken away the joy of her victory.

Just need to appreciate both magnus and Judit here. Judit knew magnus is upset so she offered him to play one more match, but Magnus wanted Judit to enjoy the moment and refused the offer, what a great moment of respect for each other .

If that was a puzzle, it wouldn’t even be 1800. Pretty obvious deflection tactic; the reaction was because Magnus blundered one he would never miss if taking a game seriously. That said, Judit is amazing and did beat Magnus in her career, along with every great player of her time.

Anish wasn’t taken by surprise. He was waiting to see if Judit would find it but you can see him smiling because he saw Magnus blundered a pretty basic deflection tactic.
@@TheBenevolentDictatorship honestly I see no shift on his expression after Magnus played Rc8, but I do see his surprise after she played Bb6. I think he missed it. And that's because it's not really a basic deflection tactic. You rarely get to deflect an entiere queen from the defence of a pawn like that. It's not a super hard tactic, but it's easy to miss in a blitz game

I do believe that Anish saw it coming when Magnus blunder. Magnus is a gentleman when he refused the offer to do it again. He don't want to ruin the story right there. Job well done for the lady.

Judit is the only woman to have been a serious candidate for the World Chess Championship, in which she participated in 2005; she had previously participated in large, 100+ player knockout tournaments for the world championship. She is also the only woman to have surpassed 2700 Elo, reaching a peak world ranking of No. 8 in 2004 and peak rating of 2735 in 2005.

Congrats Judit, you are amazing, as always. I played two games against you, in a Budapest chess club, when you were 7. Hungarian tv Hirado reported and showed footage of it that same evening. The point was that you were blindfold (with your back to the board), and your Dad played the moves for you. You beat me very quickly no problem. Thank you and warm regads from Vancouver.

I know she's long retired but I would love it if Judit came back lol, she would add so much fire to the board. Love her analysis for any tournament she commentates, it's been great watching her cover the Candidates.
If she came back you would be disappointed. She would lose 10 games for every one she would win at the top level. She is still a great player but it’s better she stays as a commentator
@@Kizdo69 I don't believe she would be anywhere near the same form she had at her best but I also don't see how you can so confidently know how a person who you haven't seen playing for a while would do if they came back to the game. Unlike Kasparov she has remained in the chess business and while neither Vishy nor Kramnik are their old selves they still generally hold up their own nowadays when they turn up to a tournament. Kramnik had a good performance on the online Rapid Chess Championship yesterday, for example.
@@aesaphyr Kramnik and Anand were both far better players than Judit at their peak and still are plus the level of competition has increased dramatically, which is why even they can't compete with the top level nowadays. "Being in the chess business" is such a dumb but funny thing to say because you are trying to imply that being an online commentator is the same as actually competing yourself its two completely different things lol. You really think chess isn't still a major part of Gary's life also?

Judit like Vishy is a coach and keeps up with modern lines. Again, I will repeat that I am not saying she would be acing her way through but I quite simply do not see where you got your very precise assessment of how she'd fare.
Like, literally you're here to just express your contempt of a person on a thread that doesn't even say what you think it does. At no point did I say she would be beating everybody and ruling the chess world. All I said is, I miss her fiery attacking style, and you pitch up here arguing how many matches you think she'll lose, how terrible she is now etc. Go start your own thread maybe. Or consider why you feel so obsessed with this.
@@aesaphyr Judit is not even top 70 at her current rating. It shouldn't be even controversial to suggest she wouldn't fare well at the top level. Again you are using comparisons like Vishy and Anand who were ex world champions and #1 rated. Judit never was.
When did I say she was terrible now? You are simply imagining made up things and inferring some sort of negative agenda and attitude so that you can argue against it. Pointless.
For those of you who don't understand, white has a queen+rook staring down the d file. If the queen takes the d pawn and gets to d7, it's mate. The only thing preventing this mate in one right now is the black queen guarding the check. However, white bishop to b6 directly confronts the black queen - the only thing standing between a mate in one.
The queen cannot take the bishop. If the queen takes, white has a mate in one - queen takes d7.
Take a good look at the d file and why d7 is so important. When you have a queen and rook aligned it becomes extremely dangerous. You can see Magnus hurriedly moving the bishop back to protect the d7 pawn immediately when possible.

I get this, but at 3:27 Magnus seems like (at least to my noobish chess eyes) has defended this position. I mean it is still very bad situation, but it looks to me like he gave up too early? What am I missing? :D
@@poldreborn4281 Agreed. Take my "analysis" with a grain of salt, cause
1. I'm new at chess, and thus not that good (yet?), and
2. I'm terrible at visualisation, so seeing future development is my greatest weakness in chess (so I'd need to spend some time or have a physical board in front of me or pull up Lichess), but:
Bd7, d7, d8 (perhaps the best imo) Qc6 are options. They'd all result in losing the queen, meaning you'd play at a severely material and positional disadvantage.
Unless there's an obvious "mate in x" I cannot see, most people would counter this by saying that it's no use wasting everyone's time playing a losing game, but to that I wanna point out your opponent can always blunder. And secondly, a draw is infinitely better than a loss anyways.
Something I dislike about chess is tradition. In most cases, and especially at this letter, it's seen as disrespectful to play on in a situation like this. Yeah, maybe when there's no time limits, and also when there's six more games to be played afterwards, but there's a clock there for a reason.
Imo when playing with time limits below mby 20-30 mins, it should be viewed as disrespectful to forfeit, no matter what. If you'd look at it from the winning players side, the forfeiter steals the winning players satisfaction of getting a true victory.
E.g. Fischer v. Byrne (63/64 US Chess Championship).
But again, my "analysis" may be way off, but I still stand by this viewpoint.

Judit has been retired from professional chess for a number of years now and this was a simple “friendly” and yeah she won the game but let’s not overblow this and act like this was _real_ match play again not hating great she won but let’s not lose perspective here.
She has already beaten Magnus in an official game when she was active as a chess player.
During her career she defeated 11 current or former world champions in rapid or classical chess.
She's the commentator right? She must be lucky to be this good

i know this style isn't fully correct, and it's very hard to use it in the times of chess engines

I'm astonished at how genial both Judit and Magnus were during this game. Here's a guy that could be refusing to play these types of social games, because he has everything to lose in terms of his reputation, but he's so cool. As a guy, so little ego (of course he has some :)) but just amazing how abashed, humble, and cool he was in laughing about his loss. Wow, just an amazing guy, and Judit, also, so nice to him :). Congrats on an incredible accomplishment!

I don't know Carlson or Polgar, I saw respect and congenial attitude from both sides. Game was fun to watch. I couldn't keep up with the initial moves. Makes me humble.

Magnus politely refusing the offer of Judit was a class act, such a gentleman. Refusing to avenge his ego made his a better man. Judit offering Magnus another chance knowing she could lose is another class act. It was an honorable action from her instead of just running away and claim, I beat Magnus. Both are great examples of humility in action.
Could he lose? She would have lost without a doubt. He would have lost as surely as death is certain. And it is precisely this that makes both gestures noble, Polgar's proposal and Carlssen's refusal.

I think Anish missed it too at first. This just shows how complicated chess can be. Even Super GMs aren't able to spot tactics like this in a blitz game if they don't play similar positions that often.
No... Every player above 1600 should see it in 5-10 seconds in a competitive game. They missed it only because it was a friendly game, and they were just having fun.
What was impressive in Judit's play was the way she was able to make such a powerful attack, reallying only on instincts without thinking. The move itself was relatively simple.
Obviously bro...there are millions and billions of moves that can be played. That's why chess can never be solved by anyone.

AMAZING GAME. I don’t understand why we male players have a difficult time accepting Judit Polgar’s tactics and playing style: she’s been always more aggressive than Carlsen or Anish Giri or many other top 10 world players for that matter. Of course she sees these moves quicker than them, because she’s been like that all her life. Let’s just appreciate this moment and her genius!! She has inspired millions of women players and men players, but I feel sometimes bias doesn’t let some men cherish and admire her playing style. All my admiration goes to her!

Judit is one of my favorite chess players for sure. She refuses to just be “good *for a woman* “ and competed in open tournaments against the strongest male players in the world. She definitely shows that chess skill is about dedication and understanding, not gender or sex.
