  • Trying to Fix 4 Broken Macbooks - Extended Cut - There were a variety of different issues I had to face during this project, including faulty batteries, WIFI issues, liquid damage, broken keyboards, and broken screens. But, considering the repairability of Apple devices, I went into this project knowing it might be a bit of a challenge. How many of them will I be able to fix?

One of my past jobs, I used to refurb Macbook's including doing battery replacements. Don't be afraid to use a lot more IPA to breakdown the adhesive on the original battery (I used to pre-soak it) and using a larger plastic wedge is better to get leverage on it and will significantly reduce the dangerous possibility of piecing the battery with your removal tool!
Having TechTools Pro installed on a bootable USB flash, NVMe Stick or USDB SSD/HDD (with compatible macOS version) saves alot of time when testing them ;-)
With the Macbook Air that had corrosion, test the board out of the housing (nothing connected - inc. battery) to see if you get fan spin and also see what current draw you get with a USB power monitor.

I once had a keyboard (not from a laptop, but anyhow), which I accidentally spilled with coke. Evidently, after a few days, it was all crunchy and not working just like the one on your video. Being just a kid back then, I decided a good wash would fix everything, so I took a bucket filled with soapy water and sunk the keyboard in there for a while, I rinsed it on the sink, then let it dry completely for a day or so. To my surprise (and pride), I plugged it back into the computer and it worked like a charm. Today I know I did it wrong, I should have taken it apart and at least save the board before doing anything, but, as a prove of concept, the idea of my 16-year-old-self still holds. You could fully remove the top cover and all components, clean it up fully and then wash it with soapy water, rinse it, then let it dry completely. The keyboard is already damaged, so, if it doesn't work, all you lost is a little time.

The best technique I’ve found for removing MBP batteries is to use dental floss. It’s easy to wiggle in, and releases the glue very easily without using IPA, which will absolutely destroy the trackpad. I learned it from another CZcamsr with a really small subscriber base.

regarding the sticky keyboard. Could you just remove the screen and logic board(s) so that only the keyboard and case were left, then slosh it around is some hot water for a few minutes to remove the sugar / syrup and then rinse it in 99% alcohol so it displaces residual water and evaporates and dries out quickly.

1st its true Apple does not want you trying to repair their hardware they rather prefer that you either go to their repair service or just buy a new one, not to mention their repair policy which makes most problems even the easy ones to fix "unfixable" and after you buy a new piece and leave the broken one with them they will fix and sell it again.

Taking out those batteries is actually a 10 minutes job. Take an old credit card. Insert it under the battery. Drip IPA on the card so it flows under the battery. The glue is now soft and you just cut it with the card.
Placing the battery is much harder. I usually stick the new battery to my clothes to get the adhesive "dirty".
Remember to fully charge the new battery *and then leave it under charge for two more hours*. Use the computer on battery power until is fully discharged, then connect the charger and do a full charge again.
