Every. Single. Night. The fadeaways, reverse layups, dunks, defense ... It was literally every single game he played like that.
Truth, blessed to have seen it. If you saw him and have watched todays game there is no way any of his successors are on his level. His game was fundamentally perfect, ball handling, shooting, footwork, defense, passing his game was complete. And 32ppg against the defensive rules of his era is unbelievable.

Agree 1,000%. He just seemed invincible on the court. I've still to this day haven't seen another player take over a game at will. Closest imo was Kobe. They were basically identical players. Jordan's jumper was a little better, and had the edge on hanging and body control.

MJ was different. I am lucky, I had a front row seat. I grew up in Chicago in the 1990s and was 11 when they won it in 1991 and was 18 when they won the last chip in 98. MJ was on an entirely different level. Bron is an all time great player and will break KAJ's scoring record but is just not the goat. Jordan is the only player in NBA history to win the scoring title and DPOY award in the same season. He also happened to win the MVP that season just for good measure, it was 87-88. There are so many things, that set him apart. Still get chills watching those highlights.

The thing about Jordan, if you watch this clip closely, is every facet of his game was fundamentally perfect. From his shooting form to his pivoting to lose defenders to his defense, the man was the most fundamentally sound, athletically gifted player in the modern era. Add to that his insane competitive streak and he is someone we will not see the likes of again anytime soon. I met him, I saw him play in person and watched all his games, growing up just outside Chicago. It was like what growing up watching Babe Ruth or Ali in his prime must have been like, and it's why those of us who saw him are so passionate defending him. He wasn't just a great basketball player--he was generational, transcendent and like watching a great movie you know had a very, VERY good likelihood of ending how you hoped it would.

MJ has never displayed a lack of confidence, but more so he showed humility entering the league out of respect for those who came before him. This was the era where your nickname was earned and given to you by your game. Now players want the clout without putting in the work.

Dude, the 1st sports team I ever loved was the early 90s Cavs (was born 30miles outside Cle) To this day I still claim Mark Price is the GOAT haha…but even tho I grew up when MJ was the most popular and recognized name on the planet, and he single handedly earsed those great Cavs teams from collective historical memory, I was still too young to have any real memory of Jordan’s actual game on the court. So when Lebron finally got us the 2016 ring against GS, I remember making a “Nick Wright esq” comment to my brother at his bachelor party about how Lebron would be humanity’s all-time #1 pick bc he’s just too athletic yada yada blah blah…well, it’s was 2 or 3 yrs ago I started watching a lot of old school NBA highlights and documentaries about Magic vs Bird, Bill Russel, one about Dirk and his crazy German mentor which was amazing. And during that time I started watching these MJ highlights, and once I found this one I’ve watched it easily over 100 times and started loving and playing basketball again for the first time since I was a kid. And needless to say, I also feel stupid about that conversation with my brother and I’ve been on a personal mission to let as many ppl as possible know that the Lebron vs MJ GOAT debate is a completely ratings driven narrative and is completely disrespectful to Michael and his unparalleled, unmatched greatness on the basketball court. And beyond his incredible highlights and using the eye test to understand this, I’ve also done a lot of research and at this point can completely dismantle every single arguement for Lebron’s perceived GOAT status. And unfortunately I have to shit on Lebron quite a bit even tho I have nothing but respect for how he was able to keep his mind right and focused and live up to the hype that seemed impossible to live up to. But, even aside from the guys like Shannon Sharpe who hasn’t done any objective research and comparisons nothing or are getting paid by Lebron’s camp to lie, Lebron is guilty of publicity ranking himself as the greatest player of all time and so I’m sorry Lebron, but now we gotta point out your slightly below average free throw, your not good shooting from beyond 5ft, your turnover volume is 1 per game more than MJ, your unwillingness to go hard on defense.

Add on: But worst of all, is your unwillingness to play 82 games when you’re not even hurt, let alone injured. This would be bad enough for an average NBA player, but from the face of the league and self proclaimed “greatest ever,” it was your duty to put a stop to this trend when Kwawi and a handful of others began doing it. But instead you followed suit, and now it’s an accepted strategy among the leagues best players, the guys that fans actually pay to see and screws them out of seeing their favorite player on “load management days” and worst of all, doesn’t even f’ing work! There has never been a better player from mid range than MJ and he is the best guard ever when it comes to post moves. Dudes layup package was insane. Dudes defense was elite, jumping looked easy for this man. Also man he just had that IT factor man. You knew every single night he stepped on that court you were getting everything he had in the tank. It was truly an honor growing up watching MJ ball out he is the 🐐

I'd rush home from school, do my chores, just so I could sit there and be captivated by MJ when I was growing up. When he played, everybody was glued to their TV. Keep watching his highlights, you'll have more of an understanding of why nobody to us who grew up with him, will ever find anybody better than him!!!! What a lot of people don't realize is that MJ did this kind of stuff so much that if it was all on one highlight tape it would be like 3-4 hours.

Have you seen him breaking a backboard?? It is a very old video. But as far as i recall he is the smallest player to ever break a backboard on a dunk. Look for it, it is on CZcams also. His uniform is orange i think. It was not with the Bulls or NC. But it is impressive since as always he almost jumped over a guy, dunks the ball and the backboard breaks into very small pieces and showered glass all over the defensive team...

The way I see it is MJ had everything that the other greats we know and love had/have. He had the fundamentals perfected, the nearly unbeatable fadeaway, the explosive athleticism, the basketball IQ, the accolades, the will and determination to win by any means necessary. He could do everything. When your weakest skill is just being an average 3 pt shooter then I think you're probably head and shoulders above everyone else. He was shooting free throws with his eyes closed! He was jumping over people! Shooting over people! Crossing people up! But what he also did that sets him apart imo is he was constantly improving his game. His defense was criticized. Comes back and wins DPOY. His shooting was criticized. Develops the perfect shot. His being a team player was criticized. Develops a bond with his teammates to which he would utilize them more and win...which they did. He inspired people and was a nightmare to others. He wasn't perfect but his strive for perfection put him past everyone else in my opinion. Doesn't mean no one else can be great. LeBron, Kareem, Steph, Kobe, Magic, Wilt etc etc are all goats but Mike was just better
Im glad youve seen the light. Watching Jordan playing live is something else again. Highlights dont even give him the full justice he deserves. You need to know the context as to the importance of the particular highlights that people show.....for example the 5 3 pointers in one half was because he was compared to Clyde Drexler. So he played like Clyde and dropped a few 3s just to prove he could if he wanted. For me, Jordan wasnt interested in standing behind the 3 point line and shooting....he wanted to go toe to toe with the whole of the opposition and out play them all in every sense.

When Jordan entered the league he was very humble to all the legends. At the time Larry Bird was the goat of the league and Bird trash talked Mike thinking he was just another guy and after Jordan schooled him on the court the current goat of the league "Larry" said MJ is a god on the court. Can you imagine hearing that kind of praise from the current goat of the league did to MJ's confidence and ego? Year after Year MJ's confidence in himself started to go up and up and when he finally won that 1st championship that brought out his ego and his confidence in himself went up even more and not only that, it made MJ train harder because he wanted to stay on the top after getting to the top. That is why you see a the end of the video you see MJ looking up as he comes out into the arena (he wanted to climb) and the older jordan looking down as he came out because he at the top looking down at everyone else. Also that Push Off play. It wouldn't be called since it happened during a time pushing off wasnt an offensive foul. Infact alot of different kinds of fouls werent called during the 80's up to the early 90's. Larry Birds career ended early because of too many defensive fouls werent called and he got hurt too much. Then the rules finally changed because the bad boy pistons would constantly win games by hurting thier oppoments to weaken them and then beat them. MJ let the league know that they were injurying himself and players on his team and making people scared to play them because they win by injurying you. MJ waited for his team to finally beat them to finally let the league know what the Pistons were doing. MJ was smart enough to get the win over them to finally make that complaint so the other team cant say "You're just saying that because you lost" No, his team won and had the injuries to show to add leverage to his arguement. Guess what happened to the Pistons when the rules changed and enforced? They lost alot, several teams were better then the Pistons it made Jordan complaint even more correct. They won games because they hurt the opposing team to be afraid and play through the injuries they inflicted.
Oh, and today you became a man. Seriously, deep respect. Anyone who can tell his young self off like that, has grown. It was hard for me back in the day too, as I was a big Larry Bird fan. BUT we all knew Jordan was the best. He was next level. I'd watch the Celtics AND the Bulls, not because I wanted the Bulls to win, but everyone was watching Jordan. Every game was a highlight reel.
You had to hurry home to watch ESPN to see what Jordan done that nite. Because you know he done something spectacular. I'm in Jersey and the battles he had with Drazen Petrovich were classic. Old school!!!
As someone from Chicago and grew up in the Jordan era (was 5 when he joined the Bulls) I think about how lucky I was to witness it up close. He was the most famous person on the planets like Queen of England, POTUS, Pope level famous. And he was the greatest to ever do it.

I was fortunate to have seen prime Mike a few times at the old LA Sports Arena vs Clippers and what my 20/20 vision witnessed is like nothing I had seen before or after him. His raw athleticism was absurd. I saw him change direction in mid-air! Who in the hell does that? And Bird said "that was God disguised as Jordan." After only Mike's second year in the league. Talk about reverence. But the adulation from that Hick from French Lick reached the pinnacle when after the very first time he played against MJ in NBA he told a Boston Globe reporter "that guy is going to be the greatest player ever - you watch." Not only did Bird become a legend he also became a prophet.

One thing that made MJ absolutely lethal but often gets overlooked was his movement without the ball. Didn't need to run around like a headless chicken to get free for a shot.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s. Everybody watched the Bulls because of MJ. Men, women, grandmas, casual fans, people that didn’t even like sports…they would all tune in to see Jordan play. Every night, bro….MJ played all out. There was something insane that happened in every game he played. Unreal, just unreal to witness. He would just kill anybody he went up against. Didn’t matter. Double, triple teamed…he’d still get his shot off. Even if he was having an off night, by the time the 4th quarter came around, he’d just turn it on and score like 15-20 points in the 4th to win the game
I've never seen James leap from the foal line and dunk. And watching Jorden play.... Watch the quick change of direction and speed. He's thinking 3 steps ahead of the 3 or even 4 defenders trying to stop him. He'll get all of them to commit to a direction then change directions and be around faster than they can react.

Michael Jordan brought basketball (on TV at least) to the world. I am from europe I grew up in this area. Nothing bigger than MJ (yea football players of course in this part of the world). But it was insane, we payed to see in the midle of the night a game when he was on. Just look at the 1 billion contract he did with Nike at the time (a lot of money back then)... and then he had his own brand within Nike and saved the company (they made a big bet on him and it worked out). Look at the sneakers only, everybody in the world know the Jordan's... some go for a lot of money. Lebron got a billion contract to I think (not sure, sorry), but he has not the same impact that MJ had (maybe in the US but absolutelly not in the rest of the world... Kobey, Miller had more inpact than Lebron for us)

It’s ok and It’s understandable because you never got to see him and the impact that he had not just on the sport but on the world when he came onto the scene. He was the most recognizable person in the world and this is before the internet and social media.

Bird never had to face a superior opponent without superior help...when Kobe faced the Celtics he faced 3 top 75 players (plus a prime Rondo) and beat them without another top 75 player on his team. I watched Bird play, Kobe play, Magic play and MJ play...MJ was greater than Bird and Magic and Kobe and MJ are like basketball twins...sometimes numbers can be misleading, for instance Robert Horry has 7 rings, that's 4 more than Larry Bird..Karl Malone scored more points and grabbed more boards than Michael Jordan..but nobody in their right mind would just make a judgment that Horry is greater than Bird or Malone greater than Jordan strictly by looking at numbers. Likewise with Kobe; he played for a coach who would not play him early in his career and he shared the spotlight with Shaq for years. But for 10 year Kobe was the best player in the NBA, not only winning back to back rings, but THE key in 2008's redeem team, leading the United States teams to gold in 08 and 12...this is the context that must be applied to judge Kobe...not just the stats you listed.

Very true how hearing about something is way different to actually seeing with your own eyes. The thing with MJ is that on top of just winning and dominating, he had style doing it. Just his jump shot was so graceful and satisfying to watch. Pure art.
When you mentioned how Jordan sounded differently when he started out, awesome point. He talked like that because he earned the right to talk trash. Lots of people talk trash, then can’t back it up, Michael earned that right, even NBA players didn’t mess with him. He talked trash to them, but they didn’t to him, when there was a few that did, he just embarrassed the mess out of them in the game. So they thought it best to just keep their mouths closed because they were gonna already going to have to be on their best game and focus because they were going against him and the bulls to begin with.
