Because of rules changes & play style changes throughout the years, you pretty much have to break down the GOATS into their respective eras.

Basketball is simple. Score the basket. Stop your other opponents from scoring. Jordan played 13 seasons with the Bulls (13 minus second season with broken foot and more than half the season he was playing baseball)
11.5 seasons. 10 scoring titles, 9 All Defensive First Teams meaning he was the best defender at his position. This included leading the league in steals 3x - stopping other teams possessions.
Xs and Os - Jordan could be ball dominant and play off ball in a system like the triangle. lebron is a tremendous talent but he can’t play in a system. He dribbled the ball for 15 seconds for a pick and roll for a weak defender then drives for a layup or a pass to a shooter. With Lebron he never plays well with a point guard cause he needs the ball. He can’t play with true bigs cause he needs the paint open. Bigs become catch and shoot guys.
And as a fan, I cannot explain Lebron disappearing against Boston in 2010 and Dallas in 2011. In his second year, gm2 against Boston MJ wanted to be on the line to hit clutch free throws to send it into overtime with a chance to win. Also the final 3-peat - he played all 82 games all three of those years. His last year with the Wizards - he played all 82 games. He never cheated anyone who paid to see him.
That’s why between the two I’d say Jordan.

And Steph has 4 rings in what is suppose to be Lebron's era....Tell me how that works? How twisted is the mind that has Lebron at 1 and Steph at 10? MJ gets 6 titles in the team he was drafted to....Kobe 5, Magic 5, Tim Duncan 5, Steph 4. It's a pity Lebron never stayed in Cleveland, just by going to Miami without winning one disqualifies him from GOAT conversation, even Giannis got one in the team he was drafted by and before year 10.

His Dad was murdered and then he came out and said he was retiring so that at least his dad would have seen every basketball game he ever played in. He played baseball because he didn't want to play basketball after his father (who had been to every one of his games) was killed. People forget this. And also I'm not a basketball fan but I know this because I was an MJ fan...what he did transcended basketball.
I'm a 44 year old NY Knicks fan. I grew up watching MJ beat my Knicks for most of my life. I hate Jordan for keeping my Knicks out of the finals, but I have to respect the man as the greatest of all time.

Sorry, but as a person that is from Chicago and has watched MJ from the beginning, I have to tell you that MJ WOULD NOT have struggled in this era....at all. He was way ahead of his time with his style of play. That is why he made guys look like they were standing still. Listen to all of the legends that played against him. This era of ball works in MJ's favor. A prime MJ was EXTREMELY quick. MJ of the late 80s would jump out of the gym. The MJ of the 1990s became a smarter player. Don't forget, MJ played with the Wizards in the early 2000s. Even then, he was STILL putting up numbers! MJ has an exceptionally high basketball IQ. You don't think having that, along with extreme competitiveness coupled with an almost psychotic killer instinct wouldn't put him in the highest ranks?
The reason why you have so many of us coming at you young folks is that
1.) Most of you do not know or study Michael's career in depth, then you make assessments based on little to no information.
2.) Those of us that were around to see MJ play KNOW what he's done and are SHOCKED when we hear such outrageous claims.
3.) Many of you cannot except that maybe the greatest player ever WAS NOT in your era.

No. Also, back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, you had to be a MAN to withstand the rigors of the NBA. Now we have this flopping, limp-wristed brand of basketball where one guy dribbles down the court and the other 4 stand around outside the 3 point line. Even the pick-and-roll is becoming more rare. Everybody just wants to shoot 3s. Back in the day you could get close-lined and the refs would look at you and laugh. Now, you might get a flagrant 2 for giving an opponent the side-eye. I hope they keep Kleenex tissues at the scorer's table for all the crying.🤣 I'm pretty sure Lebron could have played during those early eras, BUT he would NOT be dominant vs a prime Shaq, Wilt, Moses, Maurice Lucas, Dave Cowens, Unseld, Olajuwon, Barkley, the BAD Boys of Detroit, Magic, Boston's Big 3, and many, MANY more.

As great as this mixtape is, this is nothing when you take into account that MJ played like this every single game. Its truly a shame for those who didn’t see him play. He was basketball perfection. No one’s at Jordan’s level, maybe in the future someone will come. He’s light years ahead of the current guys. LeBron never had a chance, bless his soul

What made MJ great were his actual skills. His footwork was immaculate, his movement without the ball was so effective. The way he dismissed double teams was brilliant. And he did it all with fluidity and grace. MJ could go on a massive scoring run any time he wanted, but there were also times where his scoring was so spaced out and within the offense that you'd be surprised at the end of the game just how much he scored. This is how proficient he was : In his last year with the Bulls, MJ averaged holding the ball for just 3 mins 45 seconds per game and still scored a little under 30 a game. So each quarter he held the ball for just a little over 56 seconds. Incredible. MJ dominated in the toughest defensive era in NBA history.
Blessed to have grown up watching this man. No one will ever understand without going back and watching games. He was a gamer. He was built differently from any athlete ive ever seen. This mixtape doesnt do what he was justice.

That is true, and it has its pros and cons.
A positionless era in basketball is good in terms of the element of surprise, but it also makes the league uniform and stale since no one has a specialty anymore.
It's also really rare for players to succeed without focusing a lot of effort into mastering their own style of play.
Curry, Giannis and LeBron all have different styles of play unique to them which makes them both exciting to watch and successful in winning games.
So having the more "predictable" position-based era in Jordan's career isn't exactly a bad thing.
And in terms of talent, I believe the past and present eras are equal.
Just different.
No one rebounds or plays defense the same way Rodman does anymore.
Does that mean this era is less talented in defense than Rodman's era?

Bulls went 15-3 in the playoffs that year. Warriors had more losses than that even before the finals started. At a 15-9 playoff record, they had as many losses in the playoffs as they did in the regular season.
Jordan wasnt washed up in the Wizards. He was really still putting up good states. The team chemistry was totally new. Basically one of the weaknesses of Lebron. Even though hes a team player than a scorer. But he was always trying to find a team with the best lineup but the chemistry wasnt there no matter how much elite players is in his team. During Jordans time with the Bulls. Even though Jordan was a scorer. He had many years to cultivate and understand his teammates and tailor the team to his play style. They uplifted each other to become greater players as time went by. Lebron is too impatient and as soon as there is an opening to get into a team with a better lineup of names. Lebron also had no blood and thunder type attitude to want to defeat the best out there. Instead choose the easy way. Find a team of dominant players and join them. He joins to get a super team. While Jordan cultivated a super team over years with the exception of the addition of Dennis Rodman. Then you talk about people of Lebrons era. They have more lenient rule sets. And even the best out there say with all the rules set before him. He can score even more easily compared to what he had to go against. All the greats say he would easy put up 50 points a game in todays league and you say the players today on another level? YOUR era people are even allowed to travel much less hand check.

One thing that this video does not display is Michael's triple threat pull up shot. He could go full speed right, left, or straight ahead with the ability to pull up on a dime. His triple threat combined with his first step made him unstoppable during 84-93.
If you pay attention to Lebron's game, he always goes left and likes to drift left on his jump when shooting. Lebron is great, but he has no pull up as a go to move. And do not forget free throws: The man has air balled free throws (3) times as a Laker.

You just watched the greatest ever, seen his full career and Lebron and even though wasn't a Bulls fan if you saw what many of us saw MJ do you'd realize what most of us know. Dude played full out and was as tenacious a defender as a scorer and was no liability off the free throw line. Dude took basically 2 years off and came back leading another 3 peat. Lebron is a great player and definitely top 5 but not nearly the complete package MJ was.

I'm 11 months late, but he switched to 45 because they had retired number 23 when he retired. If I remember correctly, 45 was his baseball number and Michael is really superstitious and petitioned to get 23 back. When he came out wearing his number 23 jersey, everyone was excited.
In 19 seasons you've never seen bron catch half the amount of body's at the rim jordan got in 13 seasons. Bron got Cleveland a ring, cool. But Jordan turned Chicago from dumpster to dynasty...2 3peats in 8 yrs and never had to leave or recruit other players...bron had 8 straight trips to the finals on superteams and couldn't 3peat once....the comparison is not even close. His role on the bulls was to score. In the 88-89 season he played as a point guard and had a triple double in 7 straight games. (LeBron has never done that.) out of the 11 games he played as a facilitator, 10 of those were triple doubles. He averaged 32ppg 11asts 10reb that month. So it’s not like he was un capable of being all-around, his role was to score & simultaneously lock up the opposition. He’s the only player in league history to have a season with 100+ blocks & 200+ steals. He did that twice. Just keep your mind open, see things for what they are. You’ll see the truth.

you are correct. but that's not all his role was. he was also to fill in where they were lacking. if they needed more rebounds, he got more, if they needed more assists, he got more. Jordan was far more of a complete player than he's given credit for cause his skill at scoring was so kuch higher than everyone else so that's all they focus on.
The thing everyone who touts Lebron’s passing ability over Jordan seems to forget is that Jordan was a great passer - as you say, when he played point guard for 11 games, he got 10 triple doubles, but even as a shooting guard he handled the ball more than the point guard, the problem is when you pass the ball and get it back, nobody records it.

I saw both mj and lj many times live and the biggest difference in my mind and it was an obvious difference is that mj played all out every second of every game as hard as he could win or lose on defense too. He never coasted or played defense a little lazy. You stood the entire game because you knew you were going to see some shit.
Listen. I'm in my late 40's. I have played a TON of basketball in my life. Open gyms, parks, I'd be in 4 or 5 different leagues during prime basketball season. I say this not to "toot my own horn", or relive my "glory days", so save your disparaging comments like that. I say that so you know I've played and watched my fair share of basketball. So, I watched Michael his whole career. Also, I'm from the Cleveland area and MJ killed us more times that you can count. Conversely being from the Cleveland area, I've heard all about LeBron since he was in Jr. high and watched his entire career and very much enjoyed the 2016 Championship LeBron brought Cleveland. Having hated MJ for how he destroyed our teams and LeBron giving us a championship... I would unequivocally say that MJ is the GOAT. You crack me up with your stopping the video and say, "oh that's like when Vince Carter did this", or "that reminds me of Steph Curry doing that".. where do you think all those guys got that from?? Why do you think guys like Kobe and LeBron grew up idolizing MJ?? If social media was around when MJ played... there would be statues and shrines all over the country for this guy. Actually watching his career and watch a 20 minute "highlight" clip are definitely 2 very different things. It's not your fault, you only know what you know. You grew up with LeBron and that's what you've seen most of so it's hard to imagine anyone better. Another thing kids don't get is that when MJ was in the NBA, his fame was Beatles level, Michael Jackson in the 80s level. People used to go crazy. I don't think really any player currently in the NBA gets that. Maybe in the city they play with, but I don't think that there has been that type of reaction to a player maybe since Shaq.
Anyone can fly a plane after someone shows them how to. You keep seeing you've seen lebron do it but the difference is no one was doing the things Jordan was doing before him. He invented what most players have practiced their whole lives knowing was possible. The greats elevate the game to a new level that before them people didn't realize was possible. That's what Jordan did. TBH that's what Steph has done.

You made a great point. But to add, when he said that he's said seen Lebron do the things Jordan did, there's not much of it. The "creativeness" that Jordan brought to identify his game is something I've never seen in Lebron nor the moves that this youngster has claimed. A couple of them, yeah but not frequent or a regular to say the least. James' way of playing basketball is rather stiff and a lot of the versatility that people claim he has is a but exaggerated. Jordan was ahead of his time and would continue to do so if he were to play in any era. Not only because of his adaptation characteristic, but his standard of playing/pacing is beyond any player or era we have seen.

For the record as well excluding the 1986 season where he broke his bone, Jordan only missed 7 games during a 12 year stint with the Bulls. Outside of Stockton, he was one of the healthiest players ever to be in the NBA.

Theres no shame on being a Lebron fan. There is no shame in Lebron or anyone else being your favorite player, hell Larry Bird is my favorite of all time, but that doesnt mean he is the GOAT. Lebron has longevity....which will give him the end up stats. Take Lebrons best 15 years and i am willing to bet they dont beat MJ's numbers for his career. Ontop of that I just cant stress enough that MJ...actually played both sides of the court...he played damn near every single game. Compared to Lebron that refuses to play defense in most of his games because he doesnt have the stamina to go ham on both sides of the court. Lebron doesnt want to guard the best guy, or have the best guy guard him. MJ DEMANDED this. Again there is nothing wrong with loving Lebron, just look at him for what he is not what you glaze him up to be. Same goes for Jordan fans, he wasnt a god that made every shot and won every game
I dont really get the Lebron argument at all. Individually, he doesn’t have the same tools MJ did. He is not a very good mid range shooter and MJ was the most lethal especially during the 2nd 3peat. If you analyze LBJ’s FG%, most of his shots came from within 3 feet from the basket. Even with most of his shots as dunks and layups, his FG% is just a hair better than Jordan. LBJ had 0 scoring titles to support his argument as a better offensive force than MJ. Bron is clearly not a good free throw shooter while MJ was very good considering all the contact he’s had to deal with. Bron is a volume assist guy. He’s not a trick passer like Magic or Nash was. MJ from the video was clearly a good passer if he needed to be. In terms of defense, MJ had so much accolades than Bron. MJ was always relentless on defense and never rested on defense like Lebron.
I’m not even going to talk about finals records because its clearly in favor of MJ. I’ve never heard of a GOAT who has a losing record. I dont understand why LBJ can bypass greats like Kareem or even Duncan who had better careers. Like what the guy in the video said, he had so much advantages in terms of training, nutrition, etc. and Bron still fell short.
Secondly, the argument that the 2016 warriors is greater than the 96 bulls is the same as the argument that Lebron is greater than Jordan because he was in the finals 10 times. Both did not see it through to the end. They had an opportunity to topple the GOAT and his team but they were not good enough. Otherwise, their arguments would have made sense and not just based on conjecture or what ifs. The facts remain that whether individually or team accomplishments, there is no contest.
Lastly, the only thing that Lebron can do to beat MJ is to be a better team owner than him because the latter is terrible as such. Its too late to try and surpass him as a player unless he has a time machine.

Finishing over 2, 3, 4 guys in the paint is a sign of being very strong. Getting hammered and still finishing is a sign. Posting up and guards can't move you off your spot is a sign.
So Michael’s “horrid” years with the Wizards….they were 19-63 the year before he played at 39. In 2002 he was hurt in his last game before the All-Star break in which he averaged 25/5/5. Only one other player had that stat line going into the break….Kobe. The team that had gone 19-63 without him was 30-30 and in playoff position. After he got hurt that same team went 7-25.

Lebron having the higher stat totals simply boils down to more games played. Yes longevity is obviously a plus, but when talking numbers it has to be mentioned in context. Lebron took far more games than MJ to amass those same numbers. Also, with the whole longevity thing, all athletes from this generation are going to play longer than those of past eras simply because of the advances in medicine and science. There’s a reason Lebron is still able to play at the level he does at his age, Brady the same and countless others. Jordan had a 48" vertical, tied for highest ever in the NBA, ran a 4.2 (fastest ever), and was mentally stronger than anyone that's played the game. All of that, and we haven't even talked about basketball yet. What makes Jordan considered the GOAT is his defense, dynamic/creativity, durability and playoff success. He's the ultimate 2 way player top 10 all time in both offense and defense. Of course players like Curry have elite shooting and Lebron elite physical strength that Jordan didn't have but specifically those areas Jordan separates himself from the other modern elites.

Jordan had the highest P.E.R-that’s a broad category statistic-and Lebron is only becoming less efficient and may drop out of the top ten before his career is done.
But, as a myopic Lebron Stan, what you should be worrying about is NOT the comparison to Jordan (I saw both of their entire careers: their is NO real comparison. You could look at Kobe as a poor man’s Jordan, however), but to comparisons with players in his generation that may surpass him in real time like Giannis (already much, much better on BOTH ends), Curry (has changed the way basketball is played forever and easily the most influential living basketball player), and Durant (longest shot, but who could count out Durant getting a few more championships? He’s already dominated Lebron head to head, is a better scorer and defensive player, and could have the better statistical profile in every thing except besides career total numbers/longevity).
And for everything besides money valuation for the franchise and star power, I’d take Tim Duncan over Kobe and Lebron all day. Duncan probably should have had 6-7 rings. I was lucky enough to grow up watching MJ and inspired my lifetime love of basketball and Bulls basketball. The league was a lot harder then. Every one of his dunks and layups, the lane was clogged by bigs and there was a ton of contact. His "circus" shots were the best. Every game you could expect to see one unbelievable play. Another thing is Jordan was constantly refining his game. Each year, he would come back having vsstly improved at some aspect of his game. Whether it be D, 3's, etc. For a guy with those skills to have that kind of work ethic, it had to be scary for the league. Incredible. Still the GOAT!
