  • This series is all about video game characters who have left me in awe at their power, whether it's the ability to survive a boulder falling on their head, colossal earth-shattering strength, sheer dominance over the game they're in, etc.
In episode 16, we're covering the most powerful beings in the lovely land of Tellius. Warning, contains massive spoilers of both Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

I have a memory engraved in my skull about my first playthrough of FE7... only the boss remained (a knight, don't remember the chapter), I send Hector in to finish him with the Wolf Beil, the stats show that it's an easy win, so I press A...
      Hector misses a 90+ hit, then gets crit'd by a 20-ish hit 1% crit.
I then loaded a savestate with an overdose of salt.
I needed medical attention whith that amount amount of salt.

It was funny to other people, which is why it has a +2 rating. And it was based on something - the video. In the video is explaining strong gaming characters and the original post was expanded on that. I just threw it into a joke. Jokes don't have to make sense. A "great joke" doesn't theoretically exist. It is all based upon the opinions of other people.

21:50 I think I know the answer, Mr. Git. You see, since Yune and Ashera are split forms of Ashunera, they are opposites to themselves in every way. Even statlike. If Yune was playable these would be her stats.
    Lv: 40
    Str: 42
    Mag: 35
    Skill: 10
    Sp: 10
    Lck: 10
    Def: 15
    Res: 0
    Maximum HP: 0
Items: Praise, which increases all stats the same amount as Yune's stats.
    Skills: All, except Mantle.
Biorhythm: Constantly shifting between Best and Worst.
    Aff: Dark
Combine both stats of Yune and Ashera and what do you get? Ashunera's stats, and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM IS MAXED OUT.
Also, Yune's maximum HP is 0, because unlike Ashera, she lacks a physical form to manifest into. She had to possess a bird and Micaiah in order to communicate with characters, and when she finally shows her true self, she looks like a ghost. Pretty interesting, huh, Mr. Git?

    • @christopherbravo1813
      @christopherbravo1813 Před 2 lety +4

If you use a save file with previous game clear status, deploy the Black Knight in Ch. 1-Final and let Ike & Black Knight exchange at Ch. 3-7 while neither dies, Sephiran survives and comes back in Phase 1, Endgame 5. He can't be hurt nor killed by Ashera because he has the Mantle skill. However, he can be hurt with AoE attacks which can be prevented if you stand out of range or on specifc tiles (if I remember correctly). His Mantle skill will also heal him.

RD is an under-appreciated gem. It has more strategy elements adding a 3rd weapon triangle for anima magic, specializing mage types, gives you access to all SS weapons with an opportunity to legitimately max out your units (most games only let you get around 4 or 5 and 20/10), support conversations are replaced by base conversations and alternative main story elements triggered by support levels with units and even smaller events like visiting houses with certain characters, the music is god tier, ranged swords aren't useless, 3 tier units to keep pace with your gamecube ported por characters, and exhaustive sequel that explains all the mysteries left in por with plenty of political intrigue, internal conflict as friends fight friends, and a great twist that's a deviation from the typical dark god theme, Plus if you play the game as intended, it's the only game in the series that you build two teams of units that eventually face one another and that has the potential to be some of the most challenging battles in the entire franchise.
Easily worth the $40. Probably worth the $400 for its infinite replayability honestly, but I recognized its value when it first came out, and it and the Jugdral games are easily my favorites.
My only criticism of the game is one of almost every game and that's that enemy units do not keep pace with your own units. It'd be interesting to see more face offs with juggernaut tier units hurling astra and luna at one another beyond part 3 (when you're facing you're own armies), but there isn't another truly formidable opponent until Deghinsea, and in that fight with Deghinsea it's really just a convenient map to train Kurthnaga. They make the most powerful opponent in FE and they aren't even the final boss, but provide you with an Est unit that has diplomatic immunity to trash every enemy unit on the field. I'd say Sephiran can be a tough opponent, but you have Nasir by that point, so the element tails can't do very much

My biggest problems with Awakening are Robin, the option to level grind, the map design. Lunatic mode is way too difficult if you try to build up a whole team, but if you focus most of the EXP onto Robin, it becomes too easy. Using one character rather than a whole team for most of the game feels so wrong to me. I know some people will say that it was possible in previous games, such as with Seth in FE8, (I'm not too crazy about that game either, by the way, I don't think level grinding should ever be an option in FE, it destroys the flow of the game) but it was NEVER as bad as it is in Awakening with Robin, it feels like the game was designed around the character specifically.
As for the map design, it's perhaps the worst in the series. Most of the maps, especially later on, have enemies charge you from all angles, forcing you to power your way through instead of relying on strategy. I think the grinding option is to blame here, it's like they expect you to build up your units elsewhere, but the problem with this is: how much level grinding is enough? Should I grind as little as possible, to make the game manageable, or do I level grind as much as I like and risk making it too easy? This is why I think there should be a limited amount of EXP in Fire Emblem, because I don't want to decide how much EXP I need, the game itself should decide that with its design. And in Lunatic mode, the random Risen are so powerful, you pretty much have to buy DLC, which makes me feel very uncomfortable.
But despite all this, I still had fun with the game if I just forgot about these faults and had fun crushing every enemy with Robin, as wrong as it all felt in the back of my mind.

I actually do agree with the majority of this opinion, even I consider Awakening my second favorite game in the series. Also screw Levail. Deghinsea is RD's Camus. His might and respect has been hyped since por as the king of dragons and an original champion that sealed away the dark god, he and his country are directly under the command of the final boss and so bound to their law that they sacrifice themselves, and they having to face their loved ones in battle and die at their hands to stay true to their beliefs is Camus archetype tragedy. All he wanted was peace and keep his promise to the goddess Ashera and Lehran.
And all of that just culminates in the tone that his unique battle theme emits

If I can make an argument about the strongest laguz. Deghinsea can't be the strongest laguz in the lore of fire emblem path of radiance and radiant dawn. Lehran is technically stronger because Lehran is a laguz that was stripped of his powers for giving birth to a half beorc and laguz, correct. Now looking on how stats deghinsea in human form has 25 strength, 13 mag, 18 skill, 15 speed, 30 luck, 25 def, and 23 res. Now in laguz form all stats are doubled minus luck. Lehran has 40 on most of his stats. If lehran could still transform his stats would be off the charts literally.

Dheginsea is statistically tough, but I found Ashera a bit more challenging. The Lion laguz royal (not sure how to spell his name) and a heron can kill him in just a couple turns. Ashera was harder since I needed to break her shield and most of my team had low Res so the wisps were annoying. Personally, I think the hardest part of RD for me was getting all EXP in Geoffrey's Charge. You need to play the chapter absolutely perfectly and one unlucky miss can screw you over. It takes a lot of trial and error, but I think the worst thing about that chapter was the guilt I felt when I had to finish it without getting the Speedwing because I didn't have enough time to kill the Halberdier holding it.

    • @bigleg994
      @bigleg994 Před 8 lety

Depends. What difficulty are you on? The Dawn Brigade chapters are generally considered the hardest in the game, and I'd say part of it is how you can be really screwed in the Part 3 DB chapters if you don't plan right in Part 1. If you think your team isn't very good and you've lost several good units or not used your stat boosters wisely, it might be a good idea to just restart. Here's some tips:
Give most of your stat boosters to Jill. She might not seem good at first, but she becomes one of your best units if you give her the right stat boosters.
Make sure to get Laura promoted during Part 1 by staff grinding (if you don't know how to do that, you leave a unit in front of an enemy that doesn't move, have that unit get hit, have Laura heal them, repeat until Laura levels up. Note that you'll have to buy a lot of staffs, of course). When she's promoted, give her Paragon and staff grind some more. She'll get to Tier 3 very quickly.
Aside from Laura, you usually only get enough EXP to focus on one unit and get them to Tier 3 before Part 4. Who you want to be your Tier 3 is up to you, I personally recommend Jill since in 3-13, she can fly over to Ike and kill him by activating the skill she gets when she promotes to Tier 3 very easily which can save you a lot of trouble.
Although you're definitely going to need to use units like Sothe and Taureneo quite a bit in Part 1, you should still try to let your other units get the EXP whenever you can.

  • @MarkofWisdom
    @MarkofWisdom Před 7 lety +33

Good video and reasoning, though the background behind Dheginsea is a lot more disappointing than the battle with him.
Dheginsea...he is one of those characters that is pretty badass, but also insanely stupid because of "plot". His motivation boils down to "herp derp, a bunch of people were fighting and broke a promise *they weren't a part of, didn't make and had no say in* since it was literally thousands of years before their time, and many generations. Time for us all to sit down and die. Herp derp." Not to mention the whole stupid gimmick of the mantle skill.
He could have even avoided Kurthnaga going off to fight if he just bloody told him what would happen-"If we go to fight all of the nations would technically be at war, so the ancient dark goddess would be freed. That would be bad.", but no "just don't do it because I said so, even though I know you're rebellious and want to see the world". And the ending in the tower of "force almost all of my very limited number tribe/kingdom into battle, and watch them all get slaughtered" leading to the likely death of most of his kingdom because of his stubbornness and stupidity.
And this isn't even getting into the "tragedy" of the branded and his role in it-him being one of the ones who convinced Altena and the others to lie to everyone that the branded were cursed and the goddess hated them, leading to god only knows how many people being killed or tortured because of his lie. And indirectly (or maybe directly, who knows) led to Sephiran's despair and the whole plot of the games. Everything traces back to this moron.
It's really disappointing how such a potentially amazing character was fumbled so badly by the writing

I think the reason why Arvis (and even to some extent, Julius) is usually more difficult than someone like Deghinsea is you have so many more units that can effectively damage him and he's standing on a spot in which your units can dogpile him. Granted you do have to watch out for Ire, but considering it procs almost half as much as Arvis' Great Shield and isn't as threatening as Julius having Adept and Wrath, it more than makes up for the fact you have some element of risk, which can still be negated by attacking at range or using high-powered units with Nihil.
Arvis you can realistically only damage effectively with Seliph's Tyrfing and Julius can only be reliably damaged by Julia's Naga tome, so there's less you can do if either of them got stat screwed or RNG decides to screw you over in their fight, or especially in the Julius fight, if Julia dies.

The Guardian from Age of Mythology (great RTS, you should check it out). The guy only appears in one level, and is rather difficult to get, but once you do? Oh, boy, you're in for a treat. The only use he has is take on an enemy army that has been marching towards you. Said army is large enough to easily wipe you out, but The Guardian can rip the army apart with ease!
He has 99% crush, pierce and hack armor, which means that any attack on him will only 1% of it's original damage, and the basterd's got 10,000 health, AND heals! He also has 99 crush attack with AoE damage, so every swing of his sword not only kills anything in its way, but will also level any buildings nearby!
He returns in the Titans expansion, though again for only one level. He lost his ability to heal (I think, been a little while), but he's still FAR more than capable of destroying the enemy Titan, and the city said Titan is in as well. Hell, when the two foght each other, anything around them is flattened.
As an aside, if the character models are to scale (and they are from what I can tell), the Guardian towers over elephants! Imagine riding your elephant, feeling on top of the world, then seeing this giant Guardian coming marching toward you, scattering what you thought was an invincible army with only a few sword swings!

Ashera's 50 Magic DEF and lack of a shocking weapon weakness could make Bolting a waste too, so there's that, but then again, if Dheggy is big enough of a threat to warrant this video, that can easily be worth it.

The main complaint I hear about FE:A is that its easily exploitable. And its true, you can summon something to fight with the Bonus box at any time, in normal mode you could buy reeking boxes for less than what you earn in said battles and supports were really op.
They NEEDED to make it easier for newcomers, otherwise no one would have bought it and the series would have died. So, in a way, it was on purpose.
But I liked it for how every character felt unique and important in some way.
      Also waifu shipping.
      Yes.
If you didnt like awakening, Fates has the Nohr side, which takes more after older FE games, but Hoshido is more like Awakening.

+whoisthisgit It may be poorly designed, but it shouldn't be brushed off as a "Spin-off" game. Awakening still keeps many things that makes a Fire Emblem game a Fire Emblem game. In my eyes, it is just another Fire Emblem game that has lower quality content, for example, look at the supports. Support conversations are in every Fire Emblem game, they decided to take a risk and put quantity over quality, and many people disapproved, but that doesn't make it any less Fire Emblem than before. Lastly, I wonder, what do you think is the worst designed part of Awakening? I myself am not particularly fond of Awakening, but it still was decent enough to keep my interest and keep me playing for another two years.

+whoisthisgit ...Dude, You're being way too harsh on awakening.
If it wasn't for it, FE wouldn't be alive.
I think it's best if you take that into consideration before considering it a "Spin-off"/ :|

This stage/boss fight feels less of a Fire Emblem stage and more of a Super Robot Wars stage.

This reminds me that in my Radiant Dawn my Haar went totally ridiculous and maxed every stat and nearly soloed the end game excpet for Dheginsea (I can't remember how I ended up defeating him anymore but I am pretty sure it was mostly Ike and Haar lol).

likely a team effort as noone can 1v1 him without a bless wyrm slayer or the SS thunder ( assuming you can somehow live a hit )

To defeat Deghinsea, the best option is to use Caineghis, Giffca, Tibarn and Ike at the same time. The biggest praise goes for Caineghis, he can take down like 50 HP of Deghinsea's HP

based off the transformation animation used by the cat laguz and bird laguz ( the only ones we see in a cutscene i think ) most likely there body doesnt change as much as it seems and rather there proportions are just replaced that being said..... red dragons are fricking massive and ena is a rather average size girl so that doesnt work here?!!?
