Biggest issue with 5800x3d has actually become its popularity. Its motherboards are a scam. DDR4 motherboards should ALL run 3200 stock now, but now you are forking over more than the CPU's price to get native 3200. Motherboard makers are actively fking consumers over with AM4 DDR4 is also right up there with DDR5 pricing wise because of this

That still leaves no upgrade path past the 5800x3d without a full system upgrade, it just means that there's another AM4 processor to choose when upgrading from an older AM4 CPU
Honestly 7500f or 7600 are both better picks for brand new system (they basically produce same amount of frames as 5700x3d) if u can get am5 mobos for reasonable price. Also ddr5 exists in 12/24 gig variant so if 32 gig is not enough u can buy 48 (2x24) instead of 64, although for gaming I guess most ppl will choose 32 anyway.
i disagree. Alot of people will not upgrade these components until they struggle to run games. Thus i will ALWAYS recommend the best value as of that moment and in many situations the 5800x3d is the best value you can get. Recommending upgrade paths is bait.
I disagree. Recommending upgrade path isn't bait because it is the cheaper option long term. Now, by how much is debatable and depends on a lot of factors however if you want to preach value, upgrade path should be what prioritize. The reason being is pretty self explanatory as for this example, when people do eventually upgrade as they begin to struggle to run games, ultimately their upgrades are going to be more expensive because now they have to get a new motherboard, CPU, CPU cooler if necessary, new RAM, and if necessary also a new power supply. It's far more affordable to make smaller upgrades over a longer period of time than to just buy the cheapest thing now and then having to spend double that amount later on if you want to upgrade.

Yessir, I recently got into building my own pc’s and I did a ton a research last year when I started and was looking for the best bang for my buck system to start with, I ended up getting an asus b650 motherboard, ryzen 7770x, overclocked rtx 4070, 32gb of gddr5 5600 mhz ram, 2 2tb western digital black nvme, and a 4tb Samsung ssd. For 1440p gaming it crushes literally every single game on the market. I haven’t come across a game that can make it even stutter, and knowing how upgradable it will be in the future is beautiful.
Picked up a 5700X3D (not 8) for 228USD, which is preposterous. Upgrading from a 5500. Typically double FPS and much stabler lows, and even some gains (10-20%) in older single-core games, which is surprising. I don't know if I would build it new, though. I only went for AM4 because I know I'm only gonna go for AM5 at EOL, or maybe even skip it if possible.
I have a Ryzen 7 7700X with an RTX 4080 and 32GB 6000MHz DDR5 RAM. Before that I had a PC with an i7 3770, GTX 680 and 8GB RAM. Best new build and jump in hardware I've ever made. Can finally play every game on high(est) graphics settings.
7500f + 32g + a620 used is almost the same price at my place as ONLY 5800x3d(350 vs 300), not including ram and mobo, so it's cheaper for almost the same performance. Thou 5700x3d for 230 seems much more interesting than 5800x3d. p.s. sold my am4 to move to am5
I started my ryzen journey with a 2700x, then a couple years ago I upgraded to a 5600x. Last week I replaced my 2070 super with a 4070 and the 5600x can't push the frames to it fast enough so after some research I decided to go with the 5800x3d for the very reasons you described in this short.
I built mine a couple of years ago and when the 5800x3d came out I bought one. I had the MB about 3 months earlier from ebay a X570 Gaming Plus by MSI for 99.00 bucks and 32 gigs of ddr4 3600 cl16 corsair for 110.00. The case and PSU I already had. After a Bios update it has worked with not issues. GFX are a A770 16gb card and I haven't looked back. Nvidia is WAY to much for me dollar wise and with driver updates my SYS is very happy!
You're right about this. Two years ago I bought B550A-Pro, a 5600X and a 3090 Ti. I quickly upgraded to the 5800X3D, and I've been very happy with this combo. But with AM4 dead, I would only invest in AM5 if I was building a new system today. My choice would be a 7800X3D and an RTX 4070 Ti Super. I only game MSFS, and for that sim, cache is king.
Im on that boat now. Got a nice deal for my 4070 super and my nephew happened to live next to a microcenter that had a 5600x3d. Figured why not since its my last upgrade on my am4 until next release of ryzen and i can finally upgrade again. Jumping from a ryzen 3600/ 1080 gpu. To a 5600x3d and 4070 S is a gamechanger. Just with the gpu alone a lot of my games already feel better even with the bottleneck happening. I cant wait for the cpu to arrive.
5800x3D is still gonna be a heavy contender for another 5 years probably. My buddy still rocks a 1600x and a 1080 and plays basically everything. It is 1080 but still, that's really good for how old that cpu is
Already had a 3700x and 3080 build from 2020. Bought a 5800x3d bundle including b550 asus tuf 2 WiFi board and 16gb ram for 329. I kept the 58003d for my 3080 and took rest of new parts and my old chip and started a build for my 11 year old. Last thing to get is graphics card going with 6750xt.
I've been waiting for the 4080 super. The 4070ti super is way too damn close to a 4080. Ended up just ordering a 4090 for actual retail price and not inflated
@WCGwkf apologies I didn't see the super bit, but btw there's a quite a difference between the 4070ti super and the vanilla 4080 which I have, and basically negligible difference between the 4080/4080 super.
I just asked myself this exact question because I have a ryzen 5 3600 and Radeon rx 5600 xt and want to upgrade to a rtx 4070 super or ti but I haven’t decided yet
I actually just made this build new last month. I did it anyway because I saved 180 dollars using a microcenter bundle plus the am4 motherboard and ram cost much less allowing me to stay on budget.
Yes the 5800x3d is on a dead playform. Its also still a BEAST of a cpu and will last you well into AM5's lifespan. Id personally still consider it a viable option until ddr5 and lets say the 8th gen Zen CPU's are being phased out.
Would it be worth it to upgrade to a 5800x3d from a 5600x? I’m ok with that performance for now, but I’m thinking in the future. It’s paired with a 6750 XT BTW.
Yes. think of it like this. lets say you paired a 3070 with both these chips. you may be getting the same fps or maybe 10 more fps with the x3d. now lets say you use a 4080. the x3d will spread its wings and give way more fps compared to you using a 5600x with that same 4080
I was expecting you to slag it but, yeah. Makes sense. I had a 3900X. Perfectly solid chip. But certain games I play make better use of the cache in the 5800X3D. Made sense for me to upgrade directly to it.
I have to agree completely with this build. As someone that just upgraded from a 2600x and a 2070 super to the 5800X3D and a 4080 super; the only reason I went with the 5800X3D was the fact I didn't want to be force into upgrade the mobo and ram as well. I would've essentially had to have an entirely new build. So, I got the 5800X3D to avoid a fresh build. Though, if I wasn't just upgrading, I would've went with the newer socket.

Biggest issue with 5800x3d has actually become its popularity. Its motherboards are a scam. DDR4 motherboards should ALL run 3200 stock now, but now you are forking over more than the CPU's price to get native 3200. Motherboard makers are actively fking consumers over with AM4
DDR4 is also right up there with DDR5 pricing wise because of this

AM4 is still very much alive in 2024. Just buy a new cheap motherboard and you have an amazingly fast PC for a low price.
That's the best choice RN for an AM4 last upgrade.
Buddy that’s a binned down 5800x3d not an upgrade path
I agree
5800x3d is the best you can buy for games without a doubt, even if you are going to build a new PC from buying it
I think it depends where are you from, some places you get older parts for cheaper, while in other places in the world old parts are never cheaper.
Nope. Even if you don't upgrade after 5 years, 7800X3D is better. And if you want to upgrade eventually, AM5 is a no-brainer.

Exactly. The 5800X3D is about on par with the i5 13600K and 14600K. That's up to 2 generations ahead of what this chip was in competition with originally. So, for him to say you shouldn't use the 5800X3D for new builds is crazy. This thing maxes out my overclocked 7900XT with no issues and should last me at least 3 or 4 more years before an upgrade might be needed.

Thanks for that caveat! Of course I wanted to see your take on it. But I already own an AM4 system (2600X to 5600X).
Thanks brother i was gonna upgrade my pc and MB to AM4 guess i’ll save some more and get AM5
i upgraded from a ryzen 7 3700x to a 5800x3d and from a 2060 to a 3070 hoping in the future to get parts for a whole new build
After cpu reveals, how fast are they usually out on the market? Thinking about the 9800x3d 🤔
Microcenter in St David, PA me has the 5800x3D for $280, or a CPU, Mobo and RAM combo deal for an extra $50. Guess I’m gonna have two PC now 🤷🏻♂️
I sleep, 7800x3d , blink , 7800x3d - Remains.
Yo Zach I'm thinking of pairing a i3 10100f with a rx 6600 for my first pc build. I really need that gpu power for rendering. Do you have any advice?
I've been waiting for the 4080 super. The 4070ti super is way too damn close to a 4080. Ended up just ordering a 4090 for actual retail price and not inflated
The 4070ti is miles away from a 4080, and the 4080 super is basically a 4080, 2-5% faster.....
@@rambosausage8881 4070 ti is not the same as a 4070 ti super. It literally has a 4080 die in it
@WCGwkf apologies I didn't see the super bit, but btw there's a quite a difference between the 4070ti super and the vanilla 4080 which I have, and basically negligible difference between the 4080/4080 super.
The super on the end of 4080 basically means "cheaper" 3% if that it's a mild overclock in terms of difference.
I’ll have to start sharing this vid on reddit when I get into arguments about “5800x3d is still good”
You'll just end up losing the argument if you have to send them a youtube short to prove your point.
I just asked myself this exact question because I have a ryzen 5 3600 and Radeon rx 5600 xt and want to upgrade to a rtx 4070 super or ti but I haven’t decided yet
I actually just made this build new last month. I did it anyway because I saved 180 dollars using a microcenter bundle plus the am4 motherboard and ram cost much less allowing me to stay on budget.
lol that combo is good to game on for years.
9900k just chillin while the 6900 xt does its thang at 4k 😎.
What keyboard is that on your desk?
Yes the 5800x3d is on a dead playform. Its also still a BEAST of a cpu and will last you well into AM5's lifespan. Id personally still consider it a viable option until ddr5 and lets say the 8th gen Zen CPU's are being phased out.
Microcenter got a deal on AMD and Intel bundles right now with MB and Ram
Would it be worth it to upgrade to a 5800x3d from a 5600x? I’m ok with that performance for now, but I’m thinking in the future. It’s paired with a 6750 XT BTW.
yes, 10 to 50% fps jump
Yes. think of it like this. lets say you paired a 3070 with both these chips. you may be getting the same fps or maybe 10 more fps with the x3d. now lets say you use a 4080. the x3d will spread its wings and give way more fps compared to you using a 5600x with that same 4080
I got my ryzen 5 3600 for around 50 bucks on eBay last year and im pretty happy with that :D
can you make a video about the ryzen 7 7800F compair to other ryzen cpu , love your vids
Wild. I literally have that motherboard, had a r5 3600, and upgraded to a 5800x3d lmao
I have a ryzen 5 5500 and a rx6700 just need to upgrade to the 5800x3d but waiting for money to do it. Rig runs ok but bottlenecks with this setup hopefully can get one soon
