  • In this video I show you how to use hp tuners to convert to a 2 bar sd OS. The same principles can be used to convert to a 3 bar OS as well. I'll also be going over the differences between the P01 (0411) pcm and the P59 pcm.

    How can i tell if i have the 411ecm in the holden mate...it has red and blue plugs and its a 02 but built in 01 vx commodore ls1 etc.

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  Před 6 lety +3

      Here in the US, if it has the red/blue connectors it is a P01 pcm(0411) but I honestly know nothing about the Holden variety. Im assuming it would be similar though. If you open it up in HP Tuners and click on the "calibration details" icon, it will tell you if its a P01, P59,E38,etc. It will be listed on the far right of the same line where it states the year and model.

    A couple things to add to the video for other new people, just some general setup tips.
    After going to a 2 or 3 BAR OS, the OS normally will automatically put in 2 or 3 BAR linear and offset settings for the MAP sensors. Make sure that whatever MAP sensor you purchased matches the settings. Most GM 2 bar MAP use different linear and offset settings than just is given, 3 bar stuff is can be several different values depending on what vendor you bought the sensor from. Having this info correct is a 100% must.
    Also if you are going to be running in speed density only without the MAF sensor you will need to fail the MAF sensor within the tune file still. Easiest way on a P01 or P59 is to set the MAF fail high under the engine diag tab to 0hz, then set the MAF dtc's to MIL on first error. That will revert straight to SD at start up. I also change the dynamic high rpm disable from 4,000 to 8,000rpm as well. Don't forget to wire in a separate IAT sensor if removing the MAF housing, can't tune a vehicle that says it has -38 intake temps all the time.

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  Před 6 lety +3

      Thanks for watching Brent. If you’re using vcm scanner 2.24, you should be able to delete the old 1bar pids and select the proper pids and histograms once you connect to the pcm with the new OS. If you are using vcm scanner 3.x I’m afraid I can’t help yet as I haven’t taken the time to figure it out myself. After dealing with multiple problems with version 3.6 while trying to tune a customers vehicle, I decided to just use 3.6 editor with 2.24 scanner. That was several months ago and I’m still not using it. (Don’t really have a need to). That’s actually the whole reason I made the video on installing multiple versions of hp tuners in the same computer. 😉

    I’m having troubles on my spark tables, when I plug the vcm scanner and my spark advance table populated with cells, what do I do? Do I subtract those from the current ignition table or is there a certain range that the cell table is supposed to be at and you want to add or subtract whatever to get there

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  Před 6 lety +2

      Hello Tanner Reed, Thanks for watching! I would start off by pulling timing in all areas where boost is seen. To make things faster and easier, I suggest starting with a file from a similar boosted setup and copying the timing maps over as a starting point as mentioned in the video. Then log KR and go from there. If you want to start from scratch, Factory timing maps are usually very conservative so just make sure nothing is above about 12 or 14 degrees on the bottom half and start working from there. As I mentioned though, its usually less time consuming to just start off with a file from a similar build. Hope that helps. -Robert

    • @BadLuckGarage

    • @BadLuckGarage

      The spark tables are not scaled by Mass air flow, they are scaled by cylinder air mass.

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  Před 4 lety

      And no, you do not need your MAF sensor unless your IAT sensor is incorporated into it, in which case I highly suggest pulling the two wires for the IAT circuit and switching to a segregated IAT sensor. I’ve covered that in other videos.

    Why 25% more when you filled from 1 bar to 2 bar. Wouldn't double the atmosphere require close to double the fuel? Therefore 100% more as opposed to 25% ?

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  Před 6 lety +1

      No. Although this table is used to modify fueling, it isn’t an actual fuel table. It’s a Volumetric efficiency table. The numbers represent a change involumetric efficiency which tells the pcm to deliver enough fuel to compensate for that change. You’re not “adding 25% of fuel”, you’re showing an increase of volumetric efficiency. And as stated in the video, adding 25% here will actually have you running pretty rich initially in most cases to keep you safe while you’re actually dialing it in with a wideband. Hope that makes since.

    How do I get you to help me tune my truck? I have a 2003 gmc sierra I took the 4.8 out and put in a blueprint 427 complete engine. The engine was dynoed before I received it. I'm in southern Kentucky. I don't have anyone close to me to help.

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  Před 5 lety

      Hey brother I’m sorry to say I don’t do 3rd party tunes anymore. I was planning to make more of these videos to help people who are trying to learn to tune for themselves but I don’t use the most current version so there will still be some slight differences if you’re just now buying a newer unit with the newer software. I would encourage you to get in the Bad Luck Garage Facebook page in the files section and download the CPIG guide. It will guide you step by step learning the basics. I actually uploaded it there because I get so many emails and requests like this. Learning to properly tune a vehicle takes lots of research and lots on hands on trial and error. It’s not just a “one day course and you’re done” type of thing. Hell I’ve been doing it a few years now and I’m still a novice myself.

      @@BadLuckGarage I have the newest hp tuner. And have messed around with it a little. Is there any decent places in Knoxville that could tune it? I'd like to at least get it to move in and out of the garage for now.

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  Před 5 lety

      We have Lethal Performance in Morristown, and High Velocity in Knoxville. Both are fairly popular but both are about 50/50 on reviews. I’ve never been on a dyno and always done my own so can’t really testify to how good they are but I do know Tony at High Velocity has always seemed to be a standup guy and is actually at the track that sponsers my channel working in customer cars on the weekends sometimes. My suggestion is to download the CPIG guide as I said earlier. It’s a step by step repeatable “basic tuning” guide and if you follow it you should easily be able to get your car driving pretty good. It won’t be making the most possible power but if you follow the guide it will definitely be drivable. Even if you don’t have a wideband you can use your fuel trims to dial in your part throttle and cruise area under 3000 rpms really accurately. Hell I may even do a video on that in the next few days since I just did it in the DRNova last week and people keep asking. Lol Also all my config tiles I use to tune are also in the files section of the Facebook page for free download along with that CPIG tuning guide.

      Thanks for watching! There are supposedly some OSs that don’t support this but the majority of the time if you get no upgrade options, it’s because there is already a custom OS on the PCM. It’s possible the previous owner has already flashed a different OS on yours. If that’s the case, the only way to change it is going to be to do a full rewrite with a factory OS, then you should have the option of picking a custom OS to write.
