Amaizing the entire band under 30 some young as 25.
This song is one that Stevie Gaines brought on board with him when he joined the band . Stevie was absolutely one of the best guitarist ever .

Watching and listening to Steve sing and play it almost angers you how much we were robbed of and what could’ve been. What an immense talent. Ronnie Van Zant knew what he had in Steve, so much so that he basically gave him a second set of keys to drive the car that was Ronnie’s band. Great reaction and that guitar is beautiful.

Billy really was insane on the keys & as a guitarst , I feel bad about forgetting about him & Leon all the time . I love sick bass players & leon was a mad hatter , but with 3 guitars , it was really hard to ever focus on what the hell he was doing !!!!!

I have been doing some guitar lessons with the Guy who Plays currently with the Artimus Pyle band .His name is Chris Raines ,& his tutorials are up on YT. After a lot of digging I have determined that Ed King was the most technically proficiant guitar player in the Skynyrd band . Steve was definitely a better fit as he was a blues /boogie player from the start . If you watch the Skynyrd tribute band show from Oct 20 1987 you will see that Ed was a lot more comfortable to play in front of Johnny and he was just a wizard . Then if you look back at songs like Workin' for MCA , Swamp music , Needle & the spoon ,Poison whisky , Whiskey Rock-a-rolla & on the hunt you will realize that Ed was the King .
Ed King was an amazing player! Huge inspiration.

Steve was from my home town. Amazing guitar man and writer of songs . Older than me . But went to school with some of his kin . Remember the tribute before the grease show . Wish they would of all survived

YESSSSS ! Your among very few reaction channels that's reacted to this song and I'm pretty sure that Stevie Gaines wrote this or cowrote it with Ronnie . Stevie Gaines had a Very very good voice and could sang the phone book and Mannnnnnn when he started shredding on that Strat !!! Just absolutely ashamed that these guys and girls left us so soon.

They were one of the greatest bands and I say that because there were so many in my humble opinion. I have to agree that Steve Gaines gave a great boost with just this song alone and makes you hunger for more of him and Ronnie going back and forth and maybe Steve would have given a new outlet for the great music that they gave us so many years ago. RIP Steve and Cassie Gaines and Ronnie Van Zant we miss you and we thank you.
Hey there. Love you knowledge of Skynyrd and also your love of their music. I was 17 years old in 1977 driving around in my 1969 Mach 1 Mustang blasting Skynyrd in my cassette deck. The 70’s was great time for music. The whole Asbury Park concert is great. Free bird was phenomenal in this concert but my favorite song from this concert is T for Texas, T for Tennessee. I would love to see your reaction to it especially since Steve Gaines is your idol and he just kills his solos in this performance. Check it out if you haven’t seen this version of T for Texas and again, I would love to see a reaction video for it. Scott B.

I agree with you, this song is so good, the bass drum rhythm ensures maximum and the guitars of Ronnie, Steve and Allen generate a tension, a liveliness which with the voices and lyrics sublimate the piece. This formation and the previous one with Ed King are the ones that I prefer because they are more authentic and more in the personal roots of their music. I'm French and a fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Anglo-Saxon groups, the language goes so well with the syncopation and it gives rhythm.
This period (1976 -1977 ) was really the only point that Lynyrd Skynyrd had 2 front vocalists & 3 backing + Steve's totally different guitar technique & Artimus' superior drumming skill. It really took them up a whole other level ,especially considering they had already added the Honkettes. This sneak preview of the Fateful upcoming "Tour of the Survivors" tour ,that actually kicked off on Oct 15 at the Hollywood Sportatorium in Fl. ( where they actually picked up that shitbox Corsair plane )& ended after only 3 more dates on Oct 20 ,1977 filmed in NJ in July 1977 ,was the absolute peak of Skynyrd 's timeline.

@@johngibsonmusic Another thing about Steve Gaines that separated him from Ed King was this. When Ed King joined Skynyrd it was initially as Bass player & he said he was terrible and just couldn't fit in with the Southern Grove & never really did even on guitar , not for a while at least . When Steve joined ,He was already the biggest hillbilly hippy ,and he knew the kind of music they played maybe better than they did . His crazy boogie style Country ,bluegrass vibe just forced Gary and Allen to play 10X harder to keep up with him .

This should shock any guitarist that did not know about the video of this Asbury Pk. performance back in July 1977 just 3 months before the end . First off , I think this gig was played like literally days before they re recorded the Street survivors LP for final pressing ,as the guitar solo is different from the LP (something that Ronnie did not allaow normally ) This migt have been the way the solo was laid down at Criterion in Miami back in Jan. of 77' street survivor sessions that they ended up throwing out at at a $70K loss & re-recording in July at Studio 1 in Georgia . The Drumming and bass playing is absolutely masterclass level . Really every component of the band was at 110% here . Steve's custom was I believe a real 57' . Steve Gaines was absolutely incredible there is no doubt , but the more I delved into LS , the more I discovered that it was ED King , that really was the magic mojo that skyrocked them to their immortal status as the best live rock band in history . Steve definitely held it down and was able to enhance higher with his incredible vocal abilities and presence (wich ,live was much greater than EK ) . Ed was more a studio genious type dude. Steve was meant to be live !!!! Artimus & Leon & Billy also deserve much more recognition that they get .
Yeah man, Steve could sing and play. RVZ with his presence on stage. Lyrics superb as always. Gary, Allen, Artimus, Leon and Billy on the keys. Thats cool that Steve was your favorite guitarist. What a loss that day. I think their music stands the test of time. RIP Gary.

How heavy is that nice 70 Les Paul? lol My first band right after high school, the guitarist played a 70 left hand guitar and by end of night his small shoulder was killing him. The sound though...damn.

If you have never owned a Gibson LP custom , you're not missing much !! I had the exact same looking on that Steve played and sold it after 7 years to get a Standard . The custom has a clean ,almost strat like sound ,and OMG ! they weigh about 11-12 lbs !!!! After a gig ,you felt like the hunchback of Notre Dame !!!!!
RVZ like you say was an amazing frontman and what I liked is he didn't come out and jump around and dance he just stood there like a champion like a rock and killed it through so many amazing songs that he wrote as an amazing songwriter time doesn't permit me to list all of these songs. Speaking of Steve Gaines I mean you really should do a reaction to " I know a little" which he wrote and is the most amazing Chickn' Pickin' song I've ever heard as a musician myself for over 30 years , I still know guys that can't master those guitar licks properly.😂 enjoyed your insights you got a new subscriber bud!

You're great giving them their props cause the pre crash lineup in 77 can't be beat the tightest band ever and Ronnie was a bonafide baddass star
Steve Gaines gave them a shot in the arm they needed and they were ready to take it to another level and then tragedy happened if not for tragedy we'd be ranking them among the best ever
