    Jane H commenting ….. Elvis always sings so beautifully, & although he was going through a lot in 1972, with his marriage breakup & his beloved daughter living in California with her mother, he still manages a smile. Always enjoy your Reactions to Elvis songs. Could you please do a Reaction to a not so well known song, which was written expressly for Elvis & became a Number One Hit for 5 weeks on the billboard in 1958. I came across Elvis rehearsing this song in 1970 & this is a song which showcases his lower range of vocals. It’s actually my very favourite Elvis song, called ‘Don’t’ …. There is a ReSync with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra following straight on after the rehearsal … The video is Elvis Presley - Don’t (Rehearsal) 1970/ReSync With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) New Edit. This song Don’t is a beautiful song & I know that all Elvis fans on your channel will love this video. Thank you.

    Oh yes, this is one of Elvis’ best songs, in my opinion, written as his tribute to Martin Luther King, after his senseless assassination in 1968. Elvis was very upset over the death of MLK. This song shows off Elvis’ vocal range to perfection, & that rasp in his voice is pure magic. Thank you for a great Reaction.

    Jane H commenting ….. Another great Reaction, John. Elvis recorded this song in 1975, & he only sang it once in concert in July 1975. I have often wondered if this was a heart-rending song telling how he felt after he & his wife were divorced in 1973. He absolutely adored his daughter, Lisa Marie & I think he must have really missed coming home from five weeks of performances, & there was no Priscilla waiting for him, & no Lisa Marie. I know that he was clinically depressed all through 1975 but still having to do concerts, as he felt responsible financially for over 100 people. He should have taken six months off & perhaps he wouldn’t have become so ill …. His blood pressure would have gone down, as it was really high after he had performed. That very high pressure is what made his heart enlarge to almost double its size by the time he died. And he had a number of other serious health issues. It’s just so terribly sad.

    When I hear Elvis singing Gospel music, it is just so heavenly, & I love your Reaction to it. Take My Hand, Precious Lord is another one that I love. It’s just so beautiful & Elvis sings it so tenderly. If you haven’t heard it, please do listen, as I’m sure you will enjoy it.

  • @davidharrison1523
    @davidharrison1523 Před dnem

    Jane H commenting …. I think this might be the first time I’ve seen this video, which is great that I’m finally getting to see it. Elvis evolved so beautifully from 1950s as a teenager & young man, into the 1960s Hollywood heartthrob, & then into the 1970s back into live performances, which he loved best. Nice to hear him singing Amen, because Elvis loved singing Gospel. I was wondering if you had done a Reaction to If I Can Dream, which he asked one of his songwriters to write for him, as a tribute to Martin Luther King, after he was assassinated in 1968. Elvis then performed it on his televised 68 Comeback Special. I believe he only sang it twice, both times during the Comeback Special. It was very important to him that he did that tribute to MLK, in spite of his manager telling him it would destroy his career. If you haven’t done a Reaction to If I Can Dream in the 68 Comeback Special, I would love to see you do one, & I’m sure all Elvis fans on your channel would enjoy that too. He really does have an exceptional voice.

  • @davidharrison1523

    Jane H commenting …. An ocean of emotion. That describes An American Trilogy so very well. I always get emotional when Elvis sings this … & thanks for putting this earlier concert up (I usually listen to An American Trilogy in the 1973 Aloha from Hawaii concert) so it’s nice to see Elvis singing it in this 72 concert & wearing that gorgeous blue costume, which I haven’t seen before. I am really enjoying your Reactions to Elvis, because you are a musician yourself. I read a comment on an Elvis Reaction a few days ago, when some guy said that Elvis did not have a strong voice. I’m glad I was drinking coffee at the time, because I think I would have choked at the absurdity of such a comment. A well known opera singer in the 1970s, said that Elvis could have sung opera with training. I think that was a wonderful compliment.

  • @davidharrison1523
    @davidharrison1523 Před dnem

    Back in the 1950s & 60s, a great many big name singers did not write their own songs. Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, & many others paid song writers to write their songs for them, or bought songs off professional song writers. Writing songs & Singing songs were considered to be two separate careers. Singers sung songs & Songwriters wrote songs. Two separate professions. It’s funny how these haters always want to tear down an Icon, but they definitely need to do a bit of research, before making themselves look a bit foolish by their ignorance. Elvis began his singer career in the 1950s as an 18 year old, & then made over 31 movies in the 1960s & songs were specifically chosen for those movies, by the writers & producers. He began live performances after his Comeback Special in 1968, by which time he had a big repetoire of songs. If he liked a song covered by another singer, he would do a Cover of it, putting his own spin on it, & as so many of the songs he sang became number 1 hits for weeks on end, the original singer or the songwriter who had originally penned the song, made huge amounts of money, so they were usually very happy if Elvis wanted to cover their song. Actually, if people don’t like Elvis, that is their choice. It’s a free world. As for me, I’ve been an Elvis fan for more than fifty years. Lots of singer/songwriters have fallen by the wayside decades before then, so it would appear to me that Elvis didn’t need to write his own songs, because he performed & sang magnificently.

    • @davidharrison1523
      @davidharrison1523 Před dnem

      Jane H commenting ….. Great video & oh so true! If you own the racehorse, you don’t have to ride the horse for it to become a Gold Cup Winner …. You pay a jockey to do that for you. My father had racehorses & he hired trainers to train them & jockeys to ride them. He did very well. He didn’t have to ride his own horses to own the winning horse. In the same way, Frank Sinatra didn’t have to write his own songs, though he did write three right back at the beginning of his career. But once his career took off, he got professional songwriters to write his songs for him. Ditto for the much loved Dean Martin. He never wrote a single song in his entire career. Neither did Tony Bennet. Celine Dion, one of the top female singers in the world, has Never written a single song. She has her own songwriters to do that for her. These people just want to tear down an iconic singer, so they have to find something. I wonder if they say the same about Celine Dion, & all the other countless singers who do not write their own songs, & many of their Covers sound exactly like the original, whereas Elvis put his own spin on his Covers, & did all the music arrangements. But haters will hate, so really it is foolish to waste time, breath or thought on them.

    I agree with you, this song is so good, the bass drum rhythm ensures maximum and the guitars of Ronnie, Steve and Allen generate a tension, a liveliness which with the voices and lyrics sublimate the piece. This formation and the previous one with Ed King are the ones that I prefer because they are more authentic and more in the personal roots of their music. I'm French and a fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Anglo-Saxon groups, the language goes so well with the syncopation and it gives rhythm.

    The powerhouse vocals are stunning but this is pretty difficult to watch/listen to otherwise. That nasal shakey vibrato that sometimes almost sounds like bleating on nearly every prolonged vowel in the first half of the song. Where did that come from? His voice is totally different. He never had these problems in 1970 (as an example of earlier pro filmed stuff). We all have our own likes and dislikes and a lot of people seem to love this. I recognise that, and who am I to critique one of the best singers of all time, but the fact his voice has changed is undeniable.

    Gibson, you are so clueless. Are you saying what Elvis did in arranging was more than what Pete Townshends did in writing, arranging, and producing albums like Tommy, Quadrophenia, Who's Next or Who are you? But you probably don't even know who people like Pete Townshend, Townes Van Zandt, Marty Robbins, Bob Dylan, Hank Willams Sr, Merle Haggard, Paul Simon, Dwight Yoakam, Warren Zevon or Billy Joel are. These are geniuses who wrote and produced their own music. Quit drinking the Kool Aid. What you are saying is insulting to what these geniuses did.
