I was there and it was AWESOME!No cell phones, no cameras, no sunscreen, and just great music, great vibes, and memories 46 years later that will forever cause me to smile at how fortunate I was.
The unity regardless of race, age, sexual choosing, income level. You were all there for one thing and one thing only. You did it. You achieved pure unity. That's who we were. Glad you were there.
I was at the same tour, but at the Dodger stadium. It was beyond great!! And you're right, no phones, no cameras, no sunscreen, just great music and everyone loving every minute of it. :) I was a California girl, so no way I was blocking the sun.
@@desertdee1 I was at Angel stadium. desert? The high Desert? I used to go to the Antelope Valley Fair. Mainly for the Rodeo. My cousins lived there and we were always visiting.... shooting guns and riding horses. My uncle was a field supervisor for an air conditioning company and they had a huge water cooler running in their booth. We learned to drive on a Dry Lake on Edwards Air Force base near ave E and 60th. Then we would go to the "Office" at 90th & E . That's the bar. Brings back memories.
@@oldmanghost219 It could have been at the Angels Stadium, but when I asked a good friend of mine that I went with, he said Dodger. Doesn't matter, same tour, same time. :D Yes, the Mojave Desert -- China Lake Naval Weapons Center / Ridgecrest. The outdoor life we had is like no others, city people just didn't have the freedoms we had, no way possible. :D Camping, hiking, shooting, hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, you name it, we did it. And the desert parties were the greatest. :D
Which show? They Played "Day On The Green" shows on July 2nd and July 4th that year. I had just graduated High School and we went to the July 2nd show because we had to be at Lake Tahoe for July 4th. Frampton Headlined, Skynyrd, Santana and the Outlaws. Oh, to hear "Freebird" and "Green Grass and High Tides" on the same day...!!
We went back to Oakland later in July for the next "Day On The Green"... Led Zeppelin, Rick Derringer and Judas Priest. What a summer
I sure miss those times! It was a great time to be a teenager 😊
I saw them in 77 also..I can't remember it though because I was 2..Crazy parents..
Truth!
I miss the 70's like crazy everytime i watch this!!! we had no idea how good we had it.
Best times.
you miss those times.... well atleast you got too live in that time.
We took all this for granted in the 70s, thinking music would always be this great and would only get better. Ha. Little did we know.
I know. Up to the 90s it did get better. They they people started relying on autotune, canned music and it just sucks.
@@margaretstutts4362All these artists we enjoyed in the 60s and 70s really honed and fine tuned and the bands were tight. Garages to clubs and bars before they made it big. It's a lost art.
@@Biden4more I know. But the 80s included a lot who came up the same way. They played clubs, and finally got recorded and then played on the radio then if they hit, MTV. Bands today don’t make music. They scream into mics, have guitar players but no melodies or verses I understand. Free Bird I understand. Journey songs I understand. The Eagles I understand. Led Zeppelin I understand. U2 I understand. Anything recent, I don’t.
LS was a Southern band from Jacksonville Fl. and proud of where they came from. All the flag meant to them that they were just good old Southern boys playing good music for the world.
That performance was one for the books.
Tony, what's up? Molly, I hope you enjoy this.
@@notablindliberal896
All's good. Btw is that Molly as in Hatchet?
Definitely..
From what I understand, this concert was shortly before the plane crash. Which makes this particular performance even more impactful.
Great shows back in the day. I saw them in 76. The Confederate Flag back then wasn't that big a deal. Nobody was upset because the band was from the South and we're very proud of their Southern roots.
*were
Actually the band didn’t want the confederate flag, manager put it up
We never saw the " confederate flag" either. There was no video. We heard the song on the radio.. we also " heard Curtis low" on the radio, we just " saw" a bonfire, drinks, smoke, friends, starry night, and we all heard the music. They were not racist. They've Said it over and over again. It's the generations AFTER Gen X who brought in race. Nice reaction.
Coming from a Jacksonville resident, You are 100%; just for the record, the album cover for "Freebird, The Essential Collection does prominently feature the confederate flag. But as you know it was simply Southern Pride to the boys.
Allen Collins lead guitar, Steve Gaines lead guitar, Gary Rosington lead guitar, Leon Wilkinson bass, Billy Powel piano, Ronnie Vanzant vocals, Artimus Pile drums....MAGIC WITH LIGHTING IN A BOTTLE
The guy playing the piano was a roadie. They took a break for lunch one day and he asked of he could play thr piano.
They said yes and he started to play. It turns out he was a classically trained concert pianost.
On the spot they invited him to join the band.
For lead singer and band founder Ronnie Van Zant, the Confederate flag was ONLY an indicator of where they were from and was absolutely not some kind of political statement or affiliation no matter how hard people tried to make it seem so and I'm glad he stuck by his guns and kept that flag up. Damned for leaving it up by some and damned for taking it down so whatcha gonna do ?? Stay true to your own self.
Growing up in Alabama lynyrd skynyrd is a religion. 😂 thanks for covering my boys !
I was 17 when this happened and consider myself blessed to have grown up in this era!
Young Man,,,,,,there will NEVER be anything like a stadium concert of the '70's and '80's again. Ya had to be there,,,,💥💥💥👍😎 Really glad you like the music,,,👍👍👍
exactly
This band is worth taking a deep dive into.
This show took place about 4 months before the plane crash. I had the great fortune of seeing the band about 4 months before that. I was 16 and had the live show One More For (From) The Road on 8 track tape. Me and my friends wore that tape out while cruising. If you want a great experience track down the CD and listen to the entire live performance, it’s like this from beginning to end. And no, contrary to the bad image of the Christian White Cross aka. The confederate flag of 2023; the flag did not carry this stigma in 1977. Like many other things in culture, it’s a different world.
AMEN!!!
Yeah it was. I was 10 and i don't think i ever seen people butthurt then like they are today. Everyone said hello - held doors open for you - helped ladies in and out of cars - it sure was a different world back then
Absolutely
Thats not even the "Confederate" flag. Whats commonly (and mistakenly) called the Confederate flag is actually the Battle Flag of Virginia. The actual confederate flag is quite different.
Yes, living here in Jacksonville (their home town), it's fairly well known locally that some of the band members attended Robert E Lee High School. It maintained that original name until the WOKE crowd suddenly, after 60y decided that General Lee was a racist and now it's been renamed High School #33 or some other generic number. Sad to see that.
Who remembers going to any concert and the crowd yelling out free bird
This is the version I prefer the most! Another great song by Skynyrd is called Tuesdays Gone
They plane crash 2-3 months after this show. We lost Ronnie 29, Steve Gaines 28 (in red pants), Steve's sister Cassie Gaines 29 (backup singer), road manager and 2 pilots. 20 others survived.
On October 20, 1977, a Convair CV-240 passenger aircraft ran out of fuel and crashed in a wooded area near Gillsburg, Mississippi, United States. Chartered by the rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd from L & J Company of Addison, Texas, it was flying from Greenville, South Carolina, to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, crashing near its destination. Lynyrd Skynyrd lead vocalist and founding member Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist and vocalist Steve Gaines, backing vocalist Cassie Gaines (Steve's older sister), assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, Captain Walter McCreary and First Officer William John Gray all died as a result of the crash, while twenty others survived. The tragedy abruptly halted Lynyrd Skynyrd's career until Van Zant's brother Johnny reformed the band ten years later.
lynyrd skynyrd knebworth their best show...they blew the stones off the stage!!!
What made them is that they sound just like the album every song sounds just like the album
There's a famous photo of Paul McCartney and David Gilmour watching Lynyrd Skynryd and the look on their faces sums it up.
Possibly the greatest live recording and there have been some greats, but this up there in the top 5
The Song Remains the Same,,,,,,💥💥💥🤘😎
I was supposed to be at this exact show. Had a ticket. I was 15 and my parents wouldn't let me go! They played with Peter Frampton, who was huge that year. Sadly, the crash happened soon after I never did get to see them. Glad to see you watch this. I was there the next summer when Van Halen played their first ever tour along with Foreigner, AC/DC, Robin Trower and Aerosmith. 98 degrees out but what a great day.
Note: No phones! Great crowd energy.
I was at both of those shows too! The good ole "Day on the Green" shows by promoter Bill Graham. We were so lucky in those days to have a chance to see all the great bands of that time. Every week a top band was playing somewhere in the Bay Area. And ticket prices $5-$10!
One of the greatest bands in American history.
Billy Powell RIP playing Piano is something you missed on the album.
He was a roadie and they heard him playing this part one day and decided to make him a regular.
🤠🏞️🐂
This is one of the best live performances ever done. Absolutely amazing. I had the privilege of seeing them live twice before the crash. Pure genius!!!! Keep going bro. Love your reactions.
In Florida we grew up with the boys of Skynyrd, along with Tampa’s own country rock band The Outlaws. We saw this tour in Tampa and what a party. I still remember where I was when their plane went down. They were so loved in Florida.
I made the journey to the Orange Park cemetery myself while stationed at NAS JAX. Learned quite a bit of their local history while there.
“What a time to be alive” indeed. They were absolutely magnificent.
And now you know why it is a masterpiece.
Best southern rock band ever one of my favorite albums I purchased as a teenager
The value of those instruments are astronomical. Priceless by todays standards.
The band lineup that day, only the drummer is still alive. The lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant and the guitarist in red pants next to him, Steve Gaines died in the plane crash on Oct. 20, 1977, along with Steve's sister, Cassie Gaines, a backup singer and a manager, along with the 2 pilots. While this is a great performance, I prefer the 1976 Knebworth performance where Lynyrd Skynyrd ticked off Mick Jagger to the point where The Stones refused to come out for hours, until the crowd settled down. Mick had had a special catwalk added to the stage in the shape of a tongue. He ordered all the other bands to stay off it but Ronnie put his guitar army on it for the Free Bird solo. Also the backup singers, known as The Honkettes weren't at this performance but they were at Knebworth. The other band members were severely injured in the crash. The Pianist, Billy Powell had to have his nose reattached, the tall guitarist, all in white, Allen Collins damaged vertebrae and his right arm. The crash happened in a rural area and the drummer, Artimus Pyle managed to walk to get help. Unfortunately, many of the band's possessions came up missing during the rescue. Souvenir hunters or just thieves maybe.
That was such a shock when we heard of the crash. Such talent
As a long time Jacksonville resident, the original drummer, Bob Burns played on LS first 2 albums; when he quit in 1975, Artemus Pyle replaced him; thus, he will always be LS second drummer. All original members are now passed away over the years.
Yes Gen Z your grandparents and parents knew how to party and jam. 🤪🎸🥁
MG the days of freedom, long forgotten!
Btw sorry to bring it up but the confederate flag represents the South in the United States when they tried to leave the Union. They were from Florida. The flag was only recently vilified by groups deeming it as something that stands for racism and slavery. Something that it NEVER stood for as the South already had a plan in place to abolish slavery. It stands for Dixie (the South) and freedom from a tyrannical northern government. Remember, the fact is that the victors are the ones that write the history books.
Couldn't have said it better
I remember my fellow Kentuckians as they began treating Skynyrd like the second coming. That double live album really hit.
Hi...great reaction! Could I suggest Stevie Ray Vaughan "Texas Flood" live at the Mocambo?
piano, guitar, drums... Passionate vocals... and ABSOLUTLY NO AUTOTUNE OR ANY OTHER BULLSHIT. just American talent.
So glad you enjoyed the live version of this song 🎵 ❤
I was in high school and college in the 70’s….what a great time!
This is only a iota of a snippet that showcases their pure talent. I would LOVE to see more reactions with L.S. "Sweet Home Alabama" the live version (same location) is AMAZING. And some of their black and white filmed concerts are incredible beyond words.
Molly boy another masterpiece Chris Stapleton CMA awards 2021 for his song Cold omg it’s sooooo good you’ll love it
That's why we get into rock and roll in the first place... to make the little girls dance.
I really miss the concerts of the 1970's! Best time of my Life 💞
The greatest American band in history
Unfortunately all the original members have passed away, Gary Rossington(long dark hair playing opening) being the last to pass away this last year. Great concerts and great memories! This was about the closest to country we got in Detroit back in 70s!
The drummer is still alive. Artimus (i think that's how you spell it)
I'm only 5 minutes and I think it's so cool that you've been playing it on Guitar Hero.
Something to keep in mind about these live performances is this is not long before the plane crash that basically ended it, but they would play these shows and they would play so hard, even on the ballads, but they would do these shows sometimes for 2 or 3 hours. Just like Led Zeppelin. It was astounding. Talk about endurance and stamina wow always rocking hard and the crowds just loved it.
I was in junior high when the plane crash happened and we were all devastated. It's so cool to hear you drive some enjoyment out of it all these years later.
The Rolling Stones "Can't you hear me knocking "
I think Knebworth '76 is better, but you're going to love this. While Oakland had all those shots of the crowd, Knebworth showed more of the guys playing and Allen's solo was longer.
Knebworth for the performance . . . Oakland for the whole experience . . . English crowds were pretty laid back, back then. But . . . you're not wrong . . .
Completely agree, I always recommend both versions. Knebworth is even more epic as far as the band and how long they play but the Oakland one has a crowd reaction that is so fun to watch. Both are must watch videos of this legendary band and song.
Oakland for reactors and reactions. Knebworth for big Skynryd fans.
totally agree, that extra bit from Allen at the end just crowns it and pissing off the Stones
I loved it because they went out where the Stones told them not to. Ronnie pushed his boys out to play.
EPIC Song. One of my all time favorites. It brings tears to my eyes because of what happened to them, and just that time in my life was so amazing.
LS is a staple on my playlist. I saw the original band live 4 times. Great times!
Tool, black sabbath n iron maiden are all awesome bands but this song for me is the best of all songs, specialy after the first half when Collins give the rock n roll show! and this one is LIVEE!
DAT BASS GOING TO TOWN!!!!!!!!!!!
There was another Van Zant brother. He was in the band 38 Special. Also worthy of your attention. Anyway, THAT is how you bring the house down!
There actually were 3 Van Zandt brothers; Johnny has been LS replacement lead singer. You are referring to Donnie who started .38 Special.
@@dunhill1Yes, but my point wasn't to speak of the reformed LS of the past 30+ years, but rather the other brother in another band he should check out.
Maggot Brain by Funkadelic, 1971 Give that a listen, it's 10 minutes and 23 seconds long. One of the best guitar instrumentals ever.
This is the best performance of "Free Bird". In contrast to the studio version, this shows Billy Powell's classical piano training more. Also, how the "3 Guitar Army" of Alan Collins, Gary Rossington, and Steve Gaines jamming out together, and don't forget Leon Wilkeson on bass. Lead singer Ronnie VanZant was at the top of his game just pouring it all out. Artimus Pyle on drums just driving it like no other. They are all gone now except for Artimus. He's still rockin' with his own band playing a lot of Skynyrd's songs as a tribute to his fallen brothers. Some will argue that the concert at Knebworth in England was better, but as far as the crowd, this is better IMO.
I got confused because from the internet.....Gary Rossington, who has died aged 71 march 5th 2023., was the last surviving original member ..... Apparently Pyle was not a founding member.
@@oldmanghost219 Right. Bob Burns was the original drummer. But he had problems with flying and pressures of being on the road. He passed away a few years ago. Artimus became the drummer and had done so for so long people do get confused that he was not the original.
This song takes us all on a ride. I was a teenager in the 90’s, but I grew up listening to this stuff because my parents had amazing taste in music. 😎
I can still remember the very first time I heard Free Bird on the radio... I was blown away! Was in Ft Myers Florida lol. ( 67 yr old usa rocker)
That’s what I’m talkin’ about!
Great reaction, my friend. You just can’t go wrong with any Lynyrd Skynyrd song, so please keep doing their stuff. I would suggest “That Smell” for a serious song with great music, or “Call me the Breeze” for a fun song with great music.
Then try some more southern rock with Molly Hatchet. “Flirting with Disaster” is good place to start with them!
This was my sister’s favorite song ever. I love it too. I’m from Alabama, USA. This band was Southern Rock for us. The main members of the band, including Ronni Van Zant, the singer, died in a plane crash in Mississippi. Tragic. The guy in white with the white guitar and blond hair is still alive and still playing the same guitar. I saw the reunion tour in the 90s with Johnny singing for his brother Ronnie. He would not sing Free Bird. There was a spotlight on the mic with Ronnie’s hat, he wore for performances, on the mic while the others played the song. Now Johnny still can’t sing it all the way through. I’m glad you left the flag issue out of this. It wasn’t intended as a mean thing. They were from the South. That’s all it meant to them. In the 70s it wasn’t a big deal.
I'm sorry to inform you that the guitarist in all white with blonde hair, Allen Collins passed away way back in 1990. As of today, all original members have gained their own wings and have flown away.
They are the only rock n roll band that had 3 lead guitars in America. We still listen to them on the radio.you should watch their history of the band.
They are the ones that started the triple guitar attack Molly Hatchet stole the idea from skynyrd they just rocked it up to 11
There are a very few things in life that I think are not negotiable, American muscle cars of the 60’s can not be surpassed, the 80’s was the greatest decade, kidnapping should be a capital crime, but above all, Freebird is the absolute greatest guitar solo ever put to music. One thing I will say though is that even though the guitars get all the attention, that bass player was right there with them that entire time!
I saw them in Lakeland Florida October 18, 1977 before they had that airplane crash October 20, 1977, the band's tour plane crashed in Mississippi---- I was 17 yrs old omg the concert was amazing
You should also watch the 1976 live version they focus more on the musicians.
Its a baseball stadium, Oakland Coliseum. The Raiders also played football there.
You are only getting started with Skynyrd. Enjoy and thanks for the reaction.
My world, my teens, One of my Top 3 All Time Favorite Bands!
UFO Rock Bottom live version from Strangers in the Night album. Best version and best recording. Vs the studio album version. Epic 5 plus minute solo !!
Best live album ever SITN!
For another great guitar solo, I suggest that you check out Chicago doing “25 or 6 to 4” live at Tanglewood. ✌️🖖
Great song, and a legendary performance.
If you enjoy Lynyrd Skynyrd, give “That Smell,” a go. Quite a tale, that.
Three band member passed in the plane crash , the singer , the guitarist in the red pants and his sister (she was a backup singer for the band)
OH ONE MORE THING ABOUT LS, I SAW THEM 3 NIGHTS LATER AUG 27 1976 in SPRINGFIELD MASS. IT'S THE FIRST SHOW AFTER KNEBWORTH AND THEY WERE ON🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🐐🐐🐐🐐😍😍😁😁!! BEST LIVE SHOW I HAVE EVER SEEN PERIOD!! I SAW THE ROSSINGTON COLLINS BAND 4 YRS LATER IN SPRINGFIELD AND THEY DID FREEBIRD AS A INSTRUMENTAL , TO SHOW RESPECT TO RONNIE VAN ZANT, IT WAS AWESOME !!! 😢😢😢😢😍😍😁🎸🐐🔥
This is my favorite live version!! Thank you for this great reaction video!!
Saw them open for the Doobie Brothers in 76, Tobacco Road by Johnny and Edgar Winter, Highway 61 Revisited from Johnny Winter Captured Live are a couple worth checking out, great reaction
Tobacco Road live is 1 of the greatest vocal performaces ever.
I knew the band I was friends with the bass player Leon Wilkerson! They were not prejudiced at all, to them the Confederate flag meant Southerners and they were proud to be from the southeast United States! They were from Jacksonville/ Orange Park Florida except for Alan Collins from South Carolina
From the band members on the stage, two band members were fatally wounded in the plane crash: Ronnie Van Zant (lead singer) and guitarist in the red pants with the shortest hair, Steve Gaines. Steve’s sister, Cassie Gaines also perished, and she was one of the three backup singers, known as The Honkettes.
This song was in the movie Forest Gump and several more. I heard it the other day in an episode of YOUNG SHELDON.
It was in the movie "Forrest Gump" when Jenny stood up on the railing of the balcony.
Lynyrd Skynyrd Freebird fantastic vibe and beautiful song. ....This is from 7/2 /77 ...I saw them at Anaheim CA on 8/27/77... I will never forget ... RIP
Side note... While they were playing, i was passing a joint when a hand with a black sleeve reached from behind. It was an officer. 1 of our group had been up all night working and was falling asleep. All they wanted was to kicked him out.
You need to watch the documentary called Muscle Shoals. About a small town in Alabama Muscle Shoals where all this music started . My hometown
Muscle Shoals was where the recording studio where most of their albums were made. The songs were created and started in Hell's House, which burned down long ago in an open patch of farm land in Clay County or Green Cove Springs up against Peter's Creek. Interesting fact, while most of their hit songs were written there Ronnie never wrote down any lyrics--he had an amazing talent for memorized them all. They were written in his brain!
Eran una gran banda!! Desafortunadamente murieron hace casi 50 años 😢...
Son inolvidables. Gracias por reaccionar a ellos ❤🙏
I wish I could hear this song for the first time again. One of the best feelings I’ve ever had
I love that you watch the "normal" versions first. I think it lets you get even more out of seeing the live show and hearing the differences. I was so lucky that my first live show was Lynyrd Skynyrd in an outdoor stadium. It was amazing and helped set me on a life long love with music. Have you heard of Stevie Ray Vaughn? He will change your life. More Blues/Rock but SRV is a guitar GOD.
Please show us your reaction to Pride and Joy or Voodoo Chile (Slight Return). If you would prefer to start with an instrumental Riviera Paradise is one of my go to mood songs. It moves you.
Listen to Molly Hatchett. They came after this band. They followed the same blueprint. Three guitars, bass, piano, drums and vocals. Started in 79'. React to "Fall of the Peacemakers "
Yes, and here in Jacksonville, being a hometown band, were wildly popular. Their songs were on heavy rotation on AM Radio. In fact, I graduated from the same high school, Terry Parker, as Danny Joe Brown (lead singer). Of course they were a good 10 years older than me. But in the hall near the admin office is a plaque giving thanks to him as he must have made a big monetary donation to the school. We lived in the same school zone for that to happen, which was East Arlington.
I WAS A TEEN ANGER WHEN I SEEN THAT WAS PLAYED, I WAS 12 WHEN I FIRST HURD THEM PLAY .I LOVED THEM THERE ALL GONE NOW.
You heard it from "Forest Gump"when Jenny climbs on the edge cuz she's tripping on drugs-Great reactions 😊
If you havent heard it then Sober by Tool should be one of the next you hear. Id actually do the live version on the toolarchives channel because it honestly sounds even better than the studio recording in my opinion.
I loved being a teenager in the 70's!!! What a great time of my life!! As always, an awesome reaction! Peace!
There is a great documentary about them called “if I leave here tomorrow”. I highly recommend.
Glad you finally did this sir!! The original "the South got something to say" before Outkast.
If you’ve seen forest gump, it’s the music playing when Jenny is on the balcony if you’ve seen duets (a karaoke movie ) it is the song he sings for his friend.
Don't think there would be any doubt in your mind now why people were hounding you to watch this live performance. It stands as one of the finer live videos on youtube, along with the Eagles doing hotel california the same year. And Heart, doing stairway.
I'm from Appalachia and I always claim those florida boys southern rock kicks ass
Thanks for the reaction 👍
You should try Chicago - 25 or 6 to 4, and Lindsay Buckingham - Big Love, both live versions are killer good!
I look forward to your reaction and insights on both!
Interesting fact here. Jimi Hendrix is on record to say that he at the time , Terry Kath, was the best guitarist, who ironically was Chicago's lead guitarist and wrote the music and played lead on 25 or 6 to 4.
The reason why everybody’s cheering in the beginning is because the big guitar instrumental finish is coming.
I watched you reaction of ACDC Thunderstruck . You said how good Angus guitar playing. I saw the thumbnail coming up of this one and smiled. Wiat until he hears Allen Collins
You need to check out the band Boston. Look for their live performances from 1976 or 1979. Brad Delp's vocals and Tom Scholz writing the music/playing guitar created what some say was one of the perfect albums from start to finish.
I was looking through your video library and I don't see any Fleetwood Mac or Boston..!! 2 of the most iconic bands of the 70's and 80's..!! Was gonna suggest Skynyrd until I saw this..!! LOL..!! So many fantastic groups with super clean recordings like Toto, Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Starship, Van Halen,,, etc.. All have something to offer for the playlist..!!
Definitely check out Boston! Incredible unique sound… probably the most underrated band EVER 🔥
Back in 1960's and 1970's your band was as good as players were. Some artists used backtracks, but rock bands (Lynyrd Skynyrd included) got their street credits with practice, practice and even more practice. There is no vocal autotune, earmonitor clickers. Only guitar overdrive effect and hundereds hours of practice.
If you hear people saying "this is not real music, rock is real music" they refer to these kind of bands. Musicans who spend half of their life practicing their instrument or vocals just to show audience they can play exactly the same song live what you hear on album.
Other good ones to pick up is the Who, Jefferson Airplane, Cream, Jimi Hendrix Experience and from later era Dire Straits.
