Hi Josh. I have been prescribed amitriptyline for some years. After seven years,I had to stop for a couple of years after passing out and crashing my car. I was on a cocktail of drugs all prescribed at roughly the same time. It was supposed to help with suicidal impulses. These have come back with vengeance. I hope this information helps someone else and adds to your body of knowledge

@@kriyal_kris. Don't take it. Find something else. I liked the relaxation part, but it soon made me do crazy things, several times almost causing my death. No suicidal thoughts ever though. It seemed to build up and i had to reduce the dosage. I gradually weaned myself off it, but in reality it took years to get rid of all the odd things that happened to me. I'm not saying it didn't work, but you will pay dearly for it with the side effects and withdrawal. Take something else.

Been on 50mg daily for six years now for migraine prevention. The following are my side effects I experience daily
    1. Myoclonus (involuntary muscle movements)
    2. Stuttering and overall speech impairment
    3. Short term memory loss (If you’ve seen 50 First Dates it’s similar to 10-second-Tom) I’ll be deep in conversation and in the middle of my talking my brain wipes clean and I can’t remember a single thing I was talking about
How did this drug help my migraines?- I used to get migraines 5-7 days out of the week since elementary school, with Amitriptyline I only get 1-4 a week (4 at most on a bad week) These results have been truly life changing HOWEVER--
Overall I would not recommend this drug to anyone. Reason being, my cognitive function has been greatly impacted and I can’t speak normal anymore.

I take this for anxiety and depression. I don't take it everyday because weight gain and sexual dysfunction is an absolute no go. I take it once, maybe twice, per week. I get the long sleep on the night I take it. God, that is so nice. Sleeping for more than 5 hours is wonderful. By taking it infrequently, I don't get "used" to it, so it works nicely every time. I really like this medicine but I would not take it every day.

Chronic fatigue is a misdiagnosis for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME). My adult daughter in California has ME, and it is a very painful disease along with chronic exhaustion as well. She takes Methadone for her pain.
I have had Fibromyalgia and chronic exhaustion for 34 years, and it comes with a sleep disorder in which delta wave sleep is always interrupted by alpha wave intrusion and causes me to wake up multiple times each night. I take 150 mg of Amitriptyline every night at bedtime which keeps me in delta wave sleep, and keeps me there without alpha wave intrusion. A dozen or so years ago, I also developed Insomnia. I take 15 mg of Temazepam along with the Amitriptyline at bedtime which gets me to fall asleep. I do not take Amitriptyline for depression, I take it for the sleep disorder. One of the side effects from long term use of Amitriptyline is unspecified polyneuropathy in both of my feet, which causes a burning sensation on the soles of my feet. FM has dozens of different symptoms. Some come and go, and others come and stay. No two people with FM are alike. What is common with all women and men who have FM, is it is a disease that lasts a lifetime.

Ice cold cola may work for you aswell, or strong coffee such as Espresso style (Arabica coffee is the type you want to look for). I do that, have a shower, do some push ups and I'm good to go. I used to be on 4 x 50mg tablets (200mg) but i am only on 50mg now, and like you say it does have anticholinergic effects but that's welcome because the sedation is why i want to be prescribed it in the first place. it helps illiminate the need for other sedatives like Benzodiazepines which are less likely to be prescribed anyway. The urinary retention is a slight problem but not too bad. I had to start sitting down to pee (25 years in now) lol it works tho

More men should try sitting down while peeing , For those who wonder why , try standing peeing with bare legs , and you feel the spray from the toilet bowl hitting your legs. I too do it for about 30 years now.

Drugs like amitriptyline and cyclobenzaprine are complete garbage dude, you should know yourself better than anyone and definitely better than someone who gets paid to prescribe meds that can be either dangerous, unpleasant or highly addictive. You'd be better off drinking alcohol for your nerve pain, but in reality things like Kava and CBD really do help a lot and don't have a bunch of disgusting side effects, Kava and cbd are very clean, and they feel natural when you're experiencing their effects.
I only took cyclo once out of curiosity and never again it was a horrible time and felt super dirty, I would never be on any of this gross stuff but I do know that amitriptyline is very similar if not identical to cyclobenzaprine from what I've heard, both are horrible which is why they've been discontinued in so many places.

I have continued taking the medication but take breaks from it from time to time. I take breaks because it seems to loose it’s effectiveness- when I start again it works. Dr has said I should just increase my dosage if it doesn’t seem to work but I prefer to just have a break then re-start. Heart palpitations/ rapid heart beats continues to be a problem but not as it was 1 year ago. I believe the problem may have been triggered by eating late (I think) but as I said, it’s not a regular occurrence as it once was.

It doesn't matter what studies say about how long it takes your body to get rid of it. Even if your body get rid of it doesn't mean that you would avoid withdrawal effects and all the physical symptoms, this is because your brain has to re adapt again. Everybody is different and will respond differently, it also depends on how long you took this drug and how you did the tapping. Don't do cold turkey with Elavil, it's very dangerous!
