Street smart comes from our experiences and our connection with our instinct. At least it's my experience because this kind of conversation doesn't come up at schools. So we learn them out of the school, hanging out with friends, traveling, working and having different relationships with people

@@karinealourdementalgems Some years back in the dead of winter my car was parked at night where there were a lot of closed shops with with apartments above them in a townhouse neighborhood in Philly ... no one was around and I only for a moment looked in the store window next to my car but saw this big guy start to slow down when he came walking towards me .
I was wearing a big loose camel hair coat and locked eyes with him when I reached my right hand in under my left armpit and he briefly stopped and stared : his eyes going from my eyes to where I had my hand , and then back up to my eyes , back down and back up and back down .
Then he walked really quickly passed me with his eyes down and didn't turn around to look at me until he was maybe 25 yards away .
I didn't have a gun but I think I convinced him that there was a 50% chance I had my hand on a gun in the holster below my armpit and that I would use it .
I really did not like the danger vibe when he saw me and started to slow down .

Being street smart shouldn't be shamed as being jaded or you don't trust anyone. Just like chess you have to see all four corners and think about moves before and after it happens. I've seen people come from the bank and count their money in the streets. I wear my headphones and pretend I'm listening to avoid people I don't want to talk to. In college we had people go to parties and several girls said don't take drinks or leave alone with such and such. They thought oh they are just jealous and didn't believe what they said.

The gift of fear is now on my list. I have unlearned the teachings of giving people the bebefit if the doubt because every time I did that, my instincts were correct and I was not being sensitive.
Now, I refuse to feel guilty for saying no and refusing to around someone.
If that person is genuine with their intentions, they would not be offended by my absence or my no.

When I see that it bothers me because I've actually seen women with the headphones and earbuds early in the morning when it's still dark out or at night after dark ... really ridiculous and setting themselves up to be victimized .
Also when I used to go running and race walking and all that , I would make sure I didn't go to the same place on the same day of the week and sometimes I would make sure I didn't even leave my home at the same time ... just in case I was being watched by somebody .

@@karinealourdementalgems As a continuation of this one on street smarts , perhaps do a vid on these people who get scammed on the internet romantically for their money .
It's hard to believe it still happens but I just saw one today about an older woman who was a professional backup singer for people such as Stevie Nicks and she got taken for over a MILLION dollars and of course this was by a guy she never ever met once face-to-face .
And it was all the typical cliche stuff for example where the guy would love bomb her and also tell her not to tell anyone about us for right now and he also of course started borrowing money .
Yeah , the fact that this stuff is still happening in 2024 is proof that they need more vids warning people about this ... they need it drummed into their heads how not to fall victim to these horrible scams .

@@karinealourdementalgemsthe one thing I have to take issue with is how dangerous the pseudoscience of body language can be : it can make the most innocent of people look guilty and the most guiltiest of criminals seem innocent .
People need to really start studying themselves , catch themselves and they will notice how much of what we do actually contradicts what the so-called experts say .
Notice people shaking their head no when they're eating something absolutely scrumptious or are listening to mind-blowing music that they love .
There is so much that is wrong about the body language stuff .
Also people don't seem to take into account that there's layers of consciousness going on inside our brains ... a detective could be asking you about your murdered neighbor when you were the last to see them but for a moment something that has nothing to do with it and totally beyond your control could flash through your brain , for example you just realized you never paid your electric bill and today they were supposed to shut off the electric ... or for some reason out of the blue an image of your old sick Grandma flashes through your mind for a moment but the detective sees you blinking or looking flustered and thinks it means you're guilty .
There are many layers of things going on in our mind and most people aren't even aware of it ... I was reading a book and yet for some weird reason I remember my mind flashing my old neighborhood an apartment and it had absolutely nothing to do with what I was reading ... then a little while later while reading , remembering part of a conversation with someone ... again it had nothing to do with what I was reading .
There is so much wrong with the body language stuff they've been teaching at least since the late 1960's ... I remember the first one I noticed was if the person's arms are crossed they're trying to block you out or they're being negative ... actually it feels good to have the arms crossed sometimes and especially if you're standing up ... same thing with hands in the pockets and it doesn't mean a person is being evasive or has something to hide .
I've been begging people for years to just study yourself ... and you will catch yourself doing things that experts say are wrong .
If I look to the left it doesn't mean what the experts say it means because if there is a thought in my head and now I'm picturing myself somewhere where maybe I remember looking out the window and the window with the beautiful bird chirping was to my left then that is what I'm seeing and not being a liar .

    • @gardensofthegods
      @gardensofthegods Před 2 měsíci

@@karinealourdementalgemsyears ago when I had a very expensive therapist , he actually said to me , I feel you're being evasive because you just looked to the left .
I had to explain to him that while I'm reliving a scenario ... I'm actually seeing it as if I'm there all over again and I looked to the left because that's where the door was where they came walking in that I'm telling you about .
He understood that he was literally seeing from my physical perspective in my memory as it happened ... and was not seeing my emotional reaction or attitude to what I was saying ... in my mind in the story I was reliving the door was to the left and as I'm talking about it I'm looking over to my left at the door that is in my memory that I'm reliving ... they don't take that kind of stuff into consideration and yet it is so important .
I'm telling you this body language stuff can be dangerous for decent and innocent people .
But believe it or not the best Liars will usually stare you in the eye and I bet you know that ... and yet the shy people , the self-conscious people or the ones who know they're being falsely accused of something , will tend to look away and yet the accuser or detective or whatever will think they're guilty and have something to hide but the person is being totally honest .
Personally I think too much of this body language stuff is a real scourge to humanity .

OMG, I had to chuckle at the title of this video, plus stop what I was doing to comment.
I had an East Indian client, Sharadah tell me while I was massaging her and this was years ago, but it always stayed in my mind. She said, “I have two daughters and I want them super smart and street smart like you.”
I was at a lost of words when she said that - Remind you this was during a massage. I massaged her in two different occasions. In my mind, when she said that I immediately thought, “WTH did I say to her or do to make her know I’ve been in the streets.”
After all I’m in a spa setting and I do minimum talking, especially being a massage therapist, I want people to relax.
I have to say being raised in what some folks call the ghetto and having to be on your P’s & Q’s at all time, have taught me to move different than most in the corporate sector.
My awareness is what I call Eagle vision, it is astutely KEEN! Has to be at all times.
Love the video! I will definitely save and put in my arsenal because I grateful it reminded me of skills that were given without me even paying attention that I was literally learning as a child how to maneuver on journey.

Do you think when it comes to surviving a war or coming from the bottom and making it, etc. it is more about what God’s plan was for you vs you just being smarter than others? I strongly believe in the concept of “right place at the right time” when it comes to getting away with things or even making it professionally. Not saying being aware of your surroundings is not important but when luck is on your side you can escape even bullets coming your way, and when luck is not on your side something unpleasant can happen even if you’re just relaxing on your couch. Can you really control how your life turns out, or is it the amount of luck and support you get from God or whatever higher power you believe in? I feel like God gives and/or takes from people when and how He chooses, and we don’t have much of a say. I don’t like it but this is what I’ve realized. I’ve been in situations when I got a lot with minimal effort (almost felt like I didn’t deserve it) and I’ve also been in situations when no matter how hard I tried nothing was working out. I would appreciate your opinions because I’ve been struggling with these thoughts. I don’t like it because it makes me feel powerless. I’m not the most religious person but I know there is something more powerful than me that decides if things will work out or not and I’m just playing the role because the amount of effort I put in or the amount of thoughtfulness I have is not what determines the outcome.
