  • Russian President Putin and Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa agreed to step up trade relations between the two countries on May 23. Putin and King Hamad also promised to work together to resolve the crisis in the Middle East while deepening Russia-Bahrain ties. The King of Bahrain invited Russian President Putin to a Middle East peace conference to be held in the Arab country. Putin and the Bahraini King stressed the need for de-escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict during talks in Moscow.

    The reason so many countries are improving their relationship with Russia is because the Russian leader can actually hold a rational conversation with their leaders without mumbling or dozing off. Also, they will not say it publicly, but they admire Putin standing up to the hegemon. Moreover, they all can see that the US economic situation is not sustainable.

    To better understand this the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have fomented a series of agreements pursuant to which the Kingdom will become a major non-NATO strategic ally of the United States. As a counterbalance the Kingdom of Bahrain is reaching out to Russia of course with the acquiescence if not the support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Please note that Bahrain is one of the signatories of the Abraham Accords with Israel along with the United Arab Emirates and subsequently Morocco and Sudan.     Nothing new here. Bahrain has always been a mediator. And Russia has always had an influence with Iran, who control Hamas. It's inevitable that Bahrain would go to Russia in its attempt to broker a peace deal.
