- Russia and China have warned the US against setting up military infrastructure in Afghanistan on Vladimir Putin’s two-day visit to Beijing. The US and NATO should refrain from trying to set up military infrastructure in Afghanistan again, Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping warned. A high-ranking Russian foreign ministry official told TASS that the Taliban (outlawed in Russia) is no longer an enemy to Russia. Putin also trained guns on the West, lashing out at "closed" political and military alliance in the Asia-Pacific region which he said were "harmful". Meanwhile, China rejected US accusations on export of dual use military products to Russia amid its war on Ukraine.

You must be deluded to think a bunch of wild mediocre trained individuals, and that's what they are, are capable of defeating NATO. Taliban had nothing to say when, for 20 years, not even 1% of USA's military was deployed in Afghanistan. The US pulled back by own choice. Don't make a fairytale out of it lol. If there would be a full scale war between the US and Afghanistan, it would be over in 7 days, and that's because for the last 6 days, every sandman would be hiding in a cave or under the ground with their wooden sticks.

Depends on how you look at it. America's military achieved their goal in the first four months of the conflict in Afghanistan. Because the stated goal was to destroy Al Queda training camps. They achieved that goal and pushed Al Qaeda out of Afghanistan in the first four months. Where they went wrong was trying to bring democracy to a country that had never known it. A country that wasn't really a country but just a bunch of warlords fighting each other. Once the US invaded they went from being liberators to being foreign invaders and of course that didn't make the Afghans or the war lords to happy. BTW America's military wasn't defeated not even close. The one key element the west doesn't have that these authoritarian regimes do is they don't have to worry about elections and therefore they don't have to worry about public opinion. Public opinion is why the west can't win wars against insurgents. The politicians are more worried about how it looks at home and getting reelected than about winning. If the Allies had fought WW2 the same way they have fought every war since we all be speaking German and Japanese. Now on the other hand if they fought insurgent wars the same way they fought WW2 than we wouldn't be having this conversation.

A political decision was made not because the US and her allies were losing but rather because the country and it's politicians are so fucking corrupt that the juice was no longer worth the squeeze kind of like the Ukraine. Outside of Afghani Special Forces the Afghan military was more or less untrainable. Even after twenty years they still could not function on their own. So no the Taliban did not defeat the coalition. They simply waited for us to to call end of mission and then they returned. To claim their prize. It is highly amusing that Taliban now says that they trust Russia as a successor to USSR.
Also, the Russians and the Chinese have been talking to Taliban for years. Taliban had a mission in Doha, and had frequent talks with diplomats from the SCO, and were groomed to eventually join the organization, just like Iran has done. Afghanistan is strategically located, and have many resources. They could capitalize on developing the countrys resources in cooperation with SCO, as well as by allowing for transit of trade and pipelines.
And the Russians and the Chinese never meddle in internal affairs of the countries they do business with. There won't be much friction.

That's a given, a fact in today's world. However, all diplomatic options must be exhausted first, beyond doubt. That's the Russian way. And it's a proper way, when you have to defend your own people. Actually, most governments take an oath to do exactly that, defend their own people and country.
