  • This was my first day back winter fishing in the Tongariro for quite some time. in my opinion this is the best way to catch lots of trout in the Taupo winter spawning run. with this Rig and in this river you can easily catch lots of trout when the conditions are right.
    Hope you enjoyed this one as much as i did! have a great day.

    I watch a lot of flyfishermen, and to be honest, I really feel you're the first that analyzes the river, studies the fish, understands the techniques. I love the indicator setup. I use the same. Also Euro Nymph is my favorite as you can tell almost every take, but the fiber indicater is a close second. The bobber indicator you have tins of missed fish. Also, your roll casts are super accurate and impressive. I love long cast and setting the hook. Something about seeing 30 feet of line going tight. Just satisfying. I don't get that same feeling with anything else in the world.

      I don't think it's an official brand. Just a small clear tube cut and I use wool to the same affect, but any kind of airy fiber should work. I have seen some at fly shops before but rarely since most use the bobber indicator.

    Hi Gareth, nice to see you back on your old fishing ground. Big mistake not cleaning your gear from last fishing trip! Didymo Dave will have your guts for garters entering his Hini and bringing in all those foreign germs! Anyway, heaps of good size fish coming up the rivers and the TT Carpark should have a booking system in place to accommodate all the anglers. Shame that the access through the quarry is no longer available. Cheers mate. Harera

    WOW!!! Ok so I have a fly rod but never caught anything on it, despite trying. So I use a spin rod instead. Now a good day for me is getting even a bite. If it hooks up, that's an amazing day. If I catch a fish, well let's just say it's a good year. So to see you hook so many and with a fly rod just blows my mind. I'm down in Dunedin. So maybe it's a location thing as well as knowledge/skill. I don't know. Any suggestions would be so appreciated. Rivers to try, time of year, guides, whatever. I feel like I'm missing out on an incredible hobby because of something obvious that I don't see.

    • @DestricaUKGaming
      @DestricaUKGaming Před 2 lety +1

      You can overweight your rod yes, helpful in many scenarios and many people do it. But you know to know when and where it is appropriate. As the above says its puts much more compression on the blank and can overstress the blanks if you're casting to the backing. Also some line is lighter or heavier than others, when you're super experienced you can feel this in the cast, the rod doesn't compress properly or compresses heavily, leading you to weight up or down (Very rarely will you rate down line, nearly unheard of) mostly cheaper lines underweight their lines for cost cutting. In conclusion, if you're a beginner then keep the line weight the same as the rod.
