    Haha crack up! The secret is out now. I tried about 5 different colours yesterday lower downstream. Most caught but the dead egg is the one. Chateuse was the only colour i didnt get bites on, but i didnt try very hard.
    If anyone wants some, i left heaps in the river on snags, up trees and tangled in blackberry! 🤣

      That’s what My mom called the Beaverkill and surrounding area which is my favorite river in upstate New York. I’ve been fishing there for 40+ years and my biggest catch was 18”. My mouth is watering when I see the fish your catching. You are very lucky 🍀 !

    Fog prevention tip: coat the lens with shaving cream and let it dry. Simply buff it off with a lint free cloth and good to go. Also works on bathroom mirror.
    Devon Olson, Tactical Fly Fisher, has a great video on controlling and landing fish.
    Love watching your videos. What glasses do you use to see the fish so well?

    Here in the US, I use Otter Eggs with the milking veil. Deadly for trout, but just as so for Steelhead and Salmon in the larger sizes!

    Try rain-x if you can get it there. It’s a treatment usually for car windows but works wonders here when it gets really cold in winter and things tend to get foggy. Will also help water spots run off the front much easier too.

    Crazy session mate. Is it the inside of the outer lens cover that is fogging up or the lens itself? You need to be careful what you put on the lens but you can try dive mask anti fog on the inside of the outer lens cover.

    I use johnston and johnston baby shampoo in my swimming googles to stop fogging. Just put a drop on, rub around and wash off.

    Try adding a small tungsten bead onto the hook before you add the egg, I like to use red & gold ones, admittedly I've only used them with the Otter Egg range tho

    dang - I fish in Alaska every year for the part 25 years for Coho Salmon and big Rainbows and I thought (know) we have good fishing there - but watching a number of your videos over the past week....I MUST come to NZ. I was actually in Australia fishing with a couple of y mates in 2019 and after watching your vids - am trying to get them to set up a "little" trip to your neck of the woods - where would your recommend as a starting / jumping off point for a guy from the States? Love your videography and your commentary....top shelf stuff...and needless to say - outstanding technique.

      Hey bro thanks heaps. Start out in the central north island to get some practice in and get a feel for NZ trout. Then go down to the South Island and really test your skill. Don’t plan to hard as you will have to adapt to the weather and conditions.

The summer months where I live in the Pacific Northwest are June - August and dealing with / adapting to weather, especially in Alaska, is always a challenge. As I always say...."that's why it's called fishing and not catching". With that in mind, as the seasons are reversed down there what would be the optimumm target month(s) for scheduling a NZ expedition?

    You're definitely more "fish" than "fush." It must be where in NZ you come from. However, try saying "Ten Tins," that normally sorts the Kiwis out from the rest. Bloody dark video but excellent fishing, and the reel didn't graunch!! Well done ;-)

      It’s a soft plastic, just slide on to hook over a thread base and glue

    Does anyone throw big articulated streamers for trout in NZ? I’ve seen you swing some streamers occasionally but never the big 7 inch streamers that guys like Kelly Galloup made popular here in the US. Seems like a completely different approach to trout fishing in NZ than over here.

      Yep, they do fish them a bit, but there’s very little float fishing done there in general. Mostly boat based stuff is either harling or English drift style. The lower reaches of the Tong or certain sections of the Clutha are good spots for smashing big streamers along the bank, but very few guys do it. Just a function of limited boat access in suitable water and very few drift boats in the country.

      Trout Hunting NZ maybe you should try to keep the rocks out of them some how. It doesn’t seem like it effects your ability to catch lots of nice fish. Good work , love the videos. Nala looks like she’s turning into a great fishing dog!

    I have watched alot of your videos and it seems you catch nothing under 16"!!! Do you ever catch any fish 12" or under? I cant believe the size of all these fish right in your back yard!!! As an avid fly fishermen, I think I was born in the wrong country. Keep up the good videos, one of these years, I'm coming to your neck of the woods!!!

      New Zealand is crazy! I think that a combination of specifically sight fishing for large trout helps. And the low fish population allows fish to grow larger.

      Our legal limit is 350mm, and those are pretty tiny comparatively

      Hi James, some places the legal minimum was 530mm and fish over 650mm had to be put back for breeding stock, e.g. Tarawera Lake? Harera
