This is what you call giving the fans what they want, big streamer video.. can’t go wrong bro ✔️
So much heartbreak, felt like I just watched Rudy. Great video!
Thanks mate
I've been waiting to see a streamer video in NZ! That's exactly what I was expecting too. Absolutely epic!!!! Just a tip when streamer fishing though, strip setting usually makes for higher success rate at distance. When fish take super close trout setting can work better.
Agree, strip to strike rather than lifting the rod should help the hookup rate, its more like saltwater fly fishing. Fantastic video
Glad you guys made the same observation. It’s easier said than done but exactly correct. I was getting ready to make the same comment. Hope Gareth sees your comment. He’s a great fisherman.
i almost had stroke watching the video.... when you fish and two fish falls off you have to change something, thats common sense... and especially obvious when you have soft tip fly rod with big hooks catching hard mouth fish.... like, what were they expecting?
In Alaska, we use rabbit hare black leeches with a trailing hook for rainbows, they're deadly at certain times. They have dumbbell eyes, they're articulated with a some flash between the eyes and the hook eye. Called a "Willie Nelson". Mouse patterns skated across the surface can also be deadly.
Now THAT was fun to watch!
Great time... Well done.... When I tie Big Articulated Streamers for Trout they have two hooks and sometimes a third stinger...90% of the fish caught are on the rear hook... You know, those hooks you dont even want around your vise ......LOL Those... Thanks Again
Pleaseeee take big weighted streamers and fish deep on the tongairo! Lazy browns will go crazy!
Dude I’ve been hoping you’d try this for so long! Besides dry fly eats, watching a big trout ambush a streamer right at your feet is the next best thing! I hope this trip convinced you to carry a few game changers on every outing from now on, it’s worth it!
That drone footage take!!! Great vid mate :)
Amazing day on the river brother! Missed a lot but man was that still some amazing footage of some monsters of the fly!
Glad you enjoyed it
@@TroutHuntingNZ Always mate!
Smazing that when you strip set instead of lifting the rod on the bump, you actually hook the fish instead of ripping it out of its mouth. Fish will hit a moving streamer quite differently than a nymph or a dry, often times bumping it to stun. A fish that will chase down another fish is usually doing it out of total reaction. Shorten your leader and terminal in pretty heavy test. This allows the streamer fisherman to strip set really hard. I can only dream of streamer fishing a river that good. Pretty amazing.
Killer AM RAINBOW shot, diggin those quads, reminds me of the East Cape of Baja. See you in Feb. I’ll be on the Makarora, unless you guys can think of a better plan.
Drone footage was epic
Great video. I would try a wider gap hook on the fly might help fish stay hooked or get hooked.
That was fricken awesome !!!
Great video guys 🇦🇺🏴 🐟🎣🐟🎣😎😎
Great watch as always Gareth keep it coming.
Nice to see you fishing streamers. There is nothing like fishing streamers. As they say "the tug is the drug". Very best from USA.
Hi Gareth , I've just started tying and fishing Sculpin type flies this season here in the UK. Watching a big trout appear out of a deep pool and engulf the fly nearly under your rod tip is so exiting ! coupled with the fact that over here these flies attract the bigger fish. Keep up the good work .
Absolutely savage takes. Freaking epic. So good
Thats some amazing footage and definitely look forward to seeing more of that
nothing better than streamer eats
I think a lot us have been wondering why the NZ guys don't do more streamer fishing, especially considering the size of trout that you have. Big fish eat big meals!! Either way, glad to see you're getting in the game, it's a blast to watch for sure.
Very exciting stuff love it !
I’m getting in the streamer game now, and I think the side pressure is the best just gets those size 1 hooks deep
Happy to see Dustin figuring out the streamer game! Another great video!
that's was awesome streamer fishing video... streamers are my go to and see you guys do it for those amazing browns and rainbows you guys have there was so awesome, can't wait to see more love the videos... fish on brother
Great time bro. Game changers are hard to beat
Good video. Tying a 3-5 cm mono line with a small hook in the end could also work, from the main hook bend.
inspiring stuff you two Excellent effort
He was pulling game changer out of fishes mouth and not setting the hook quick and hard
Big Fly equal Big Fish. Great day on the water. Beautiful spot. Great video
Very cool fellas👍🏼👍🏼
This vid was cool!! Very different and very cool.
Awesome video! Them files are epic fair play!
Awesome Mate great vid, great action shots and a very cool way to mix it up and fish a different way. Keep them coming man.
So awesome bro! More videos like these please!
For me in the US best way to fish gamechangers is 45 downstream and strip and kill across the swing might have a better hook up grain of salt on that. Amazing video love to see more of them
Love the drone footage and the rest cheers Guys.
Strips sets and tying with a finer wire lead hook will increase the hookups considerably.
@hugeflyfisherman that’s a sick hat!
The silence for 20 seconds after you lost that fish was soooo true ! Great to see you guys back in the pools , looking forward to seeing the next one , oh and stay huge !😉
Streamer fishing with the highest of highs and lowest of lows, awesome video with some incredible fish
So happy to see the German Trout sniper back out. Awesome video guys
Another great video Gareth, Dustin has so much patience spending that much time tying a fly, and then have the fish not stick would suck, all good fun
You could try a floating hook...tied to back of main hook...or spelled on to main hook before tying
Love it Gareth! So keen to get over there to wet a line.
I would love to see more of streamer fishing, I live in the United States and it's probably one of my favorite ways to fly fish
Super cool day here on the river mate, something different but looks like you guys had a lot of fun.
Fly fishing rất nghệ thuật, tôi hòa mình vào dòng suối mát thiên nhiên nơi bạn
Freaking awesome! I absolutely love throwing streamers! My favorite way to fish..
Awesome vid dude 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
awesome vid. Once u start streamer fishing its hard to stop. Dreaming of more videos like this!!
Stunning footage, especially that drone shot at 15'45''. A lot of misses though, despite the double hook on that streamer. You have an explanation to that Gareth?
No not really some days it just happens. We have gone through there with streamers a lot of time and some days you don’t miss.
Super cool video. Loved seeing those huge trout attack those those beautiful streamers. Reminds me of fishing for red fish in Louisiana. Someone mentioned larger gap hooks and I agree, more exposed hook is needed for sure with that many missed fish. Just trying to be helpful to share, humbly…For red fish, I settled with “Owner” hook brand, model Mutu Light Wire, super needle point. Size 6 to 2. They have a small barb which I just smash down. If you don’t mind that. Don’t know if that’s available “down under”, just in case you want to try? Gosh, those are some beautiful flies!!
super cool! bigger hooks will definitely help them stick
Chucking meat! Love it, we do it up here in Maine for big bookies and landlocked salmon. Throw a few saltwater flies for freshwater trout from time to time. Real cool to see you guys doing it as well! Great video as always bud!
Dude I’m in Maine and I have no idea where to go/what to use.
Now THAT kind of troutfishing i know, great stuff:))
That's an awesome vid bro churz
Streamer fishing > nymphing. Great to see you getting into it and excited for future streamer vids
Nice! Got some Huge gear!
This is basically how we have been fishing in Patagonia for the last 70 years. Big browns sure do love chomping on 7-12 cm streamers. Even bigger sreamers in the fall.
@15:50 very very cool shot !
More streamer videos please. This was awesome.
The tug is the drug!
Where’s Nala?
You might want to try a smaller diameter hook wire to lessen all those missed hook ups. Smaller will pierce the fish's mouth easier! Otherwise, another great video!!
Awesome video as always! Got me jealous haha. Not for long though; going for Vancouver island steelhead in the next few days.
I'm an old retired fly fisherman here in the States (Central Oregon) and have never seen anyone hold their fly pole underneath their arm while streamer fishing?! But hey, if it works!! My guess is that the hooks on the streamers were not barbed; is that correct? I'm also thinking a wooly booger with a spinner on the end would have given you similar results and not as expensive. Tight lines my friend. Cheers
I’m gunna be on the deschutes river here in a couple weeks. Small world!
@@crutasle4264 Yep, small world. I think it's still running a little high right now due to the snow melt. Hopefully, you will do well. Deschutes River is 55 minutes from my house.
Dustyyyy!💯👊🏼
Good 👏👏
Nice HUGE gear! Yeah I'd definitely suggest using a hook with a wider gap, should increase hook ups and keep them on
Been waiting for a sick streamer video from you my man! That drone shot was epic. The double handed retrieve is great in theory but I think you saw how it affects the hook set in a tight setting like you guys were in. Looks cool but not the best for burying streamers once the fish connects
Definitely look into adding a stinger hook to your streamers.
Far our that's a cool way to fish be good on the big waitahanui browns In summer
Great vid! U would get more successful hookups on these fish if you let them run after u set the hook. In the video y’all keep pulling to set the hook. When you feel the fish set the hook and then let them fight. Don’t pull so hard they still go delicate mouths
Wow the beginning of the video was lit and not just cause I'm drunk
Pioneering minus 20 years (apart from the fly pattern), boys have been stripping Sex Dungeons etc in back country for a longgg time. Great vid, love it!
You can do a catch and cook video.
BADASS man. What an awesome day. Those big boys put up one hell of a fight for u guys. Was curious if Dustin made vids of him tying. Im interested in seeing his technique on tying his streamers. If so could u plz respond me his link. Keep em comin bro.
You gotta try dead sticking them in a seam and swinging them like a soft hackle ...it's a really good way to fish big streamers
I know we all enjoy chucking out the feathers...but isn't there a case for sticking a small soft plastic on? better hook ups...cheaper... tough to cast but those big lures look tricky too.
13:50 *CONTROLLER DISSCONNECTED*
Harder hooksets the streamers need more force to their hooksets ya really have to push it through it’s a thicker larger hook is all lost so many good fish
Hahaha, see you are a Yuge fly fisherman 👍👍 the drone overhead was great with the eat. Why do you think you lost so many? I've got some spines to will be tying up some micro game changers. Fishing with sink tips suck. Did you weight the game changers? more hook-ups with two hooks or one?
Stroke to land ratio is always low with streamers for me but I think getting the fish on the reel is important. Stripping them in you’re constantly creating and losing tension which allows time for them to shake the hook out.
Love throwing the meat. Thank you for sharing. Does Dustin sell his Game Changer?
What do you call them?? Bloody brilliant
Where is the strip set!?
Any links to these flys ? They look so so good , I reccon with the stinger further back you'd be in the money
you guys need to strip set more! your hook up ratio is gunna go way up when chucking meat
Yep. Bit more practice
Is the Honda Quad Right hand drive too?
Stinger hook.
you need less material with more volume. theres too much material on the hook and it's blocking most of the hook from the meat of the fish. great video!
Ha ha, I have been fishing downstream drift weight forward sink tip with my own home tied weighted woolly buggers size 10 the hairier the better, takes 5 minutes to tie, a great way to fish, more success than nymphs, and the fish are big
just watching these hook sets like smh no bro
Awesome video ❤, what weight rod were you using?
MORE STREAMERS PLEASE
WAY too many dropped fish! Re-think needed on that fly design I believe.
This looks like good fun. Just need to work out how to tie those cool flies.
I think you fellows need to invest in a hook sharpener!
A Mepps would be much better
No way
