Haha sorry bro I forgot to put that in. It was just about that big try and how all that wood in the area had fallen off it. Also right where I pitched a tent. 🤦♂️
Great video, especially your relationship with the dog as it's so nice to see both of you having fun in the Bush camping. The dog looked super snug in her jacket.
Hi Nala, great to see you camping with your Dog. I often do it with my two Red Heelers here in Australia. Great memory for you both thanks for sharing..
Lovely video sir nothing beats waking up in the morning sitting beside the water bit of fishing and the frying pan on with sausage bacon and eggs on the go and a good coffee
Love being out there by myself. When selecting a campsite looking at the streamside vegetation is a must, if you are seeing a lot of dead grass and twigs tangled up in the branches of the scrub then that is how high the river is likely to rise to if you get rain. Camp above that level. The first place you looked at with the big logs is not a good place because the water must really honk through there when the water is up because it can't spread out. If it can shift those logs it will certainly be dangerous. The first terrace above the river flats is a safer spot for camping. Hope that helps. Please keep making these vids.
This is cool as - and maybe a bit of an omen. Just bought my English Springer Spaniel pup tonight and getting him transported down from Taupo to Riverton on the South Island. Can't wait to be doing this same thing next season!
You cant beat a night under the stars with an open fire , food for the soul for sure. I found a Opalus 2 hiking tent under 2kg for around 270 $ lots of room and a front section for cooking under love it .
Nice mate. I really enjoyed seeing that side of things in NZ. Shows another aspect of those beautiful rivers and mts you've got across the ditch. Keep 'em coming. Cheers PP
The best trout fishing video's on you tube. Rather large fish for the stream. Love that you took your dog. I had 2 labs always were fishing with me.😊🎣👍🐕
Love seeing vids with your dog. Keep working with that gal she will come around. You have to take the joy and love out of the dog if they are not obeying your commands but they give it and get it back once they follow suit
Hi, Only recently discovered your channel and me and my wife are loving your videos ! Definitely a yes to more camping trips. Nola is a real sweety and great company for you when wild camping. I go wild camping with my buddy in the uk, so watching this video was like going on the journey with you. Nothing like sleeping under the stars in the middle of nowhere. I've always had a hankering for New Zealand, mainly cos there's less people per square acre than the uk which is becoming a tad claustrophobic for me. Never knew how good the fishing was til watching your vids.. Looks awesome and the scenery is spectacular. What's really warmed me to your videos too is how well you treat the fish... that's much appreciated 🙂
That was a fantastic camping trip. How good is a camp fire in the wilderness? And your buddy enjoys the fishing almost as much as you do! 👍✔ I'm hoping finally to get to NZ early next year after being thwarted by COVID-19 for 2 years! Thanks heaps for sharing your adventures with us less fortunate non NZ humans! Peace. 👏👌
Wonderful place to do your first overnighter, very scenic and lovely fish, geat place to peel off layers of stress at. Darryl has been getting some fly casting tuition for his Best Supporting Actor role in your future vids!
Great video mate, with the best sort of company. It had me reminiscing of days on the river with the hound. Loved the "holy grail" timelapse, tough to get the exposure right.
Hi mate, Like the video but a touch long at 1hr. I have done a bit of solo camping and you always need to have an Epirb, hand held gps, paper map, compass and a backup exit strategy. The last thing you want is not knowing where you are in relation to the exit point if the weather closes in, like super foggy or pouring rain. You don’t want the only way out is through a swollen river after a big dump of rain.
I’m like you bro, nearly 41 now, spent a good few nights in the bush with hunting mates, hunt and fish alone for the day fairly often, but I’ve still never stayed out by myself, it’s something I’ve been telling myself I need to do, I think I would get to bored at camp without a mate to yarn to with a beer though 😂 Good on ya for doing it👍
Hey bro yeah I was worried the same but it was actually a lot of fun and I’m already planning the next one. A beer would have been great tho so I’ll try fit that in next time
Great vid bro, awesome trout and scenery! Just a tip though bro don't leave your tent unzipped, I know you don't have snakes but if you travel, snakes, spiders, scorpions, mice, ants, mozzies will all make their way into your stuff.
@@TroutHuntingNZ Sorry man. I should have explained myself. I’m Tahitian and what I shared was what we say when someone inflicts pain and suffering on an animal without eating it. It’s a spiritual thing that we have in our culture. If you cause an animal any degree of suffering, it has to be for the reason of requiring to take its life for eating. Kind of like a karma thing. We don’t cause suffering for our playful or entertainment reasons, only if we need to eat/survive. The Tahitian proverb translated, is actually ‘I wish the animal/living being slapped/hit you first’.
Nice work Gareth. Certainly a different type of film, almost like watching live footage of you on the river camping. Great idea though, long version of camping, I prefer the long videos and do more of these trips mate and film. Good watch sitting around the camp fire and pitching your tent.
Fantastic video , you guys in NZ are spoiled 😂 I worked on the Christchurch rebuild in 2013/2014 . The fishing around Christchurch was fantastic. Not sure where you’re at there , looks amazing. Stumbled on your channel , look forward to tuning in Regards Tony , Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Love love the camping vid, definitely inspired me to do a solo camp , any recommendations for somewea safe to park the wagon and explore? No need for secret spots just good to get away and chill
Hi i think i read some were that you should not use rocks that are from below the water line as they absorb water over time and could explode if they got really hot from the fire just a tip for the future. Liked the video keep them coming.
Loved the content and understand the (not as simple as seen on YT) .. that said, check 'Scotty's Gone Walkabout' 'on YT for ideas for riverside camping with your dog..Cheers
Mate dunno if this will be read, but your vid on "NZ fishing will be ruined by the new fish farming law"... That was pretty much much my intro into 'current' NZ fly fishing, from there I watched you & trippin just slay things... I was enamoured.. From there, during lock-down I learned to cast a fly rod in my filthy unused 20m lap pool with half the cast entering the neighbours air space. From then I escaped QLD just as the borders were opening with my dual citizenship,g hired a sprinter van for a month and went on a south island adventure.... only reason I am writing this is I can see something different, gears have changed, you look more solid, chill, at peace, at one... For whatever reason... So guess I'm saying you have a reach and a voice, all things considered, this shit is cool to see. Peace.
Please leave the trees alone. There's plenty of dead wood on the ground. No need to go around cutting down large majestic mature trees just because you have an axe and you want a few pieces of wood to make a fire.
This guy is so irresponsible for NZ standards. Firsly, his dog is free (so can kill kiwis, etc) and he did not kill the fire before leaving. He loos american rather than a NZer
Number one there are no kiwis in this area. Number 2 it’s called avian aversion training. Number 3 it’s winter and it’s raining. Number 4 chill out dude
Dude, the suspense! You never told us why you only slept 3 hours! Sick little mish, love solo camping
Haha sorry bro I forgot to put that in. It was just about that big try and how all that wood in the area had fallen off it. Also right where I pitched a tent. 🤦♂️

You need a little pack for Nala mate? Enjoy your work. Great effort as always.
Yeah I do haven’t been able to find one I like yet. Cheers mate.
This was awesome, I like the less music approach too 🤙🤙
When you let that fish go and put it back in the water, I felt like slapping you.
Thats weird

Those stretchy cords for hanging 1 piece rods in the car are awesome, do you have any details on them?
loved the video keep up the good work, also you just got a new subscriber. I have a question Are you a fishing guide
Hi mate thanks heaps. Yep I am a fishing guide .
Great video mate have subed how do you find the bush buck tent
Nice trip and video-mate, what pants/boots are you using for the river?
Can you give a link to the survival first aid kit
OY! forgot your camera @ 0:30😁
Nice video....any tips for uploading an hour long video to CZcams??
Cheers mate. Na no tips just make sure you got some time up your sleeve 😂
Looks like the saw blade is blunt n needs replacing as your working too hard to cut the wood
Not a fishing vid but no music basicly so great stuff, too bad the conditions where really poor for fishing tho.
Hey man, do you do guides?
Yeah bro link in description
indomie noodle from indonesia😂

Goats
