Devasuram is a 1993 Indian Malayalam-language drama film, directed by I. V. Sasi and written by Ranjith. It stars Mohanlal, Revathi, Nedumudi Venu, Innocent, Napoleon, V. K. Sreeraman, Manian Pillai Raju, and Augustine. The songs featured in the film were composed by M. G. Radhakrishnan, while S. P. Venkatesh composed the background score.
The rivalry between Mangalassery Neelakantan (Mohanlal) and Mundakkal Shekaran (Napoleon) forms the main theme of the film. The character Neelakandan was created by Ranjith, based on a real-life person named Mullasserry Rajagopal, who died in 2002.
Devasuram is one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of the 1990s. It is generally considered as one of the best films of Mohanlal and I. V. Sasi's careers.The film ran for more than 150 days in the cinemas. It was followed by a sequel, Ravanaprabhu (2001), which was writer Ranjith's directorial debut. The film was remade in Telugu the same year as Kunti Putrudu, with Mohan Babu and Vijayashanti playing the lead roles.
The Pariyanempatta Bhagavathi Temple is one of the famous temples of Kerala, India, dedicated to Bhagavathy. This is one of the largest Devi temples of Valluvanad Desam in Palghat district. The presiding deity is known as the Goddess of 14 Desams. The temple and its precincts resemble that of Mookambika temple Kollur.
The action packed climax scene of Malayalam movie Devasuram, starring superstar Mohanlal, was entirely shot in this temple. It involves a terrible duel between Mohanlal and Napoleon (actor).
Sree Pariyanampatta Bhagavathy temple is one of the famous temples of kerala, dedicated to Bhagavathy. Believed to be around 1400 years old, Devi prathishtas of this temple differs from that of any other Devi temples in Kerala. Here three Daaru Shilpas (idols) of Goddess Devi (full shape in standing pose ) are placed close to one another.The first Shilpa on the right is being worshiped as Saraswathi Devi in the morning,the middle deity as Bhadrakaali in the noon and the third Shilpa is being worshiped as Lakshmi Devi in the evening. The single deity of Sree Mookaambika Devi temple is being worshiped in the same manner and concept of three forms of the Goddess.
