Brutfuner SQUARE Colored Pencils Review

- Brutfuner started selling square colored pencils this year, and it wasn’t long before many of you started asking me to review them. Watch me unbox, swatch, and color with these budget friendly colored pencils to see how they perform.
Is the square shape just a gimmick? Or does it actually help make coloring more comfortable in the hand? I’m really curious to see how they feel and how they stand up to other popular brands such as Prismacolor Premier, Black Widow and Arteza colored pencils. Let’s find out!

I really like these because I prefer a softer more blendable pencil. I like to lay down thick applications of color and blend rather than doing lots of (tedious to me) layers. If you prefer to layer these are not the pencils for you. In my opinion they are my favorite budget pencils. I don;t expect them to be Derwent or Carandache but for what they are they are fabulous!
Ik agree totally!😃 Pricewise they are great, soft core , blend well and give strong colors. I bought the 120 square ones and the 180 round ones in a big black metal box covered with a yellow flowery paper cover. And the 120 round ones in a plastic transparant briefcase (with the 4 free little coloringbooks inside). I like all of them 🤩, maybe they are all the same...🤔😄. I prefer them for my coloringbooks, less for realistic drawing. Untill now none of them arrived broken or break while coloring/ sharpening! 🤗👏🌸
The 520 set is fantastic too! I've not had any breakages when sharpening with a helical sharpener x
I love these and I’m a layering kind of colourist. They work well on even printer paper. I don’t have loads of budget pencils but these are the best I have. I sharpen mine in a desk sharpener. Works great.
Agree, L!
Totally agree!
I absolutely love these pencils..for me they are the best set I've owned and I've had prismacolor before, I love how sturdy they feel, how smooth they are and the colors are so bright 🌞 bonus i can afford these and not be afraid to use them because of high prices..🥰
These pencils absolutely hold their own against much more expensive pencils and are ideal for colourists who can’t afford to spend £100+ on pencils to colour with and never will because they don’t need professional art products.
I could buy 10 sets of these compared to one set of Polys 😂
(UK Prices)
150 Holbein £440
120 Polychromos £180
150 Prismacolors £132
120 Arteza £42
120 Brutfuner Square £18
For that budget price, they should be compared to Crayola not Polychromos & Prismacolor. And they are much better than Crayola pencils. 😊
Thanks for sharing your opinion though.
As much as I enjoy watching these fantastic artist review sometimes it's comparing nuts to bananas.
I'm not even an artist and know you can't compare these to artist brand.
@@marytesta3003 yea, she really dubbed up on this one.
TOTALLY AGREE TO NOT COMPARE AGAINST PREMIUM ARTIST-GRADE PENCILS. UNFAIR!!!! This was the FIRST time ever disagreeing with her. In fact she is one of my BEST reviewers!
These are some of my favorite budget pencils. I have prismacolor, holbeins, luminance, polychromos, but some times I feel a little more precious about those pencils and just want to play around with a budget pencil. I don't find them anymore crumby than a prisma. And I think they would be a great starter set for someone who can't afford the more expensive sets. Maybe you got a bad batch. Also on the tan toned and black paper you were comparing them to holbeins and expensive sets and that would be like apples and oranges. I think they are great pencils with really soft blendable laydown.
I have 2 sets of these pencils. I love them, the colors are vivid. I really enjoy using them in my coloring books.
I love these pencils. But what really bothers me (as an Asian American) is that all reviewers keep saying "I wish there were color names on these". There are. Just because it is written in Chinese and not in English does not negate the fact that there are color names on them.
It's also annoying because the 120 set at least comes with a sheet that translates each of the names already, but I guess she just didn't bother looking at the sheet.
I love your comparative trial and comparative study, thanks a lot for sharing this Burtfuner colours pencils for low budget ones!
Sometimes taking a purely scientific approach does not reveal the reality. The colors are really gorgeous and smooth and velvety on the page. They blend easily and there is a great variety. Some shades are not easily found in other sets. In shipping high end pencils also get broken. Prismacolors are much more likely to break when we use them. Many of us have fallen in love with these pencils and the quality they have when you actually color with them is amazing given their price.
Agree. I love them and I have Prismacolors
Well-said! I love the color pallet in these pencils because it is different than what I have in my Prismacolor Premiers , Castle Arts, or even my set of Crayolas. I’m a very new colorist and I’m not looking for high-end artist-grade pencils now. I’m retired, on a fixed budget. I want good budget quality and the Brutfuner square are my favorite set right now as I’m learning different techniques with wax or oil pencils. My hands are arthritic and sometimes they twitch when I least expect them to do so; therefore, I’m liable to break softer pencils. I also have the 520 set of Brutfuner round pencils - the barrels closely match the leads, and the color names are in English. I hope to match up my 520 Brutfuners with my other sets of pencils and my Brutfuner watercolor pencils. I’m trying to figure out which of Coloring Bliss’ swatch sheets would be best for side-by-side comparisons. Jennifer, what would you suggest?
Thanks for sharing your experience with these pencils. It is so great to live in a time when we have so many different brands available to all of us.
I do own these pencils and am impressed by them. I love your choice of colors on your coloring page you demonstrated. Karen from Canada
Very beautiful picture. I just purchased this snd so happy I did. I like your review and look forward to your future videos. Thank you and your husband working so hard in behalf of your followers.💕
I love my square Bruts. They are fantabulous!
Been waiting for this review..!!
“ I had a tshirt like this when I was young” 80s!!!!! Love it. Great review ty
I have these pencils ✏️ and enjoy colouring with them. I haven’t seen any crumbs yet and the square pattern isn’t uncomfortable to hold. In fact I find when using prismacolor pencils, I have use the blender, which is painful for my arthritis.
Great video, as always...
Love the way the colored pencils look! I've never used mineral spirits w my colored pencils - I may have to buy these!!!
Oh I love your hair, beautiful colour👍👍
I have these pencils and I haven't had any problems with them. They are fun to color with and so far they have worked with most color book paper. I did have a problem with them on really dark grayscale . But other than that great buy for the money.
Such a beautiful picture you colored!
Thank you Jennifer, as usual this is a wonderful video. I really enjoyed my set of square Brutfuner 120 pencils. I use them in Bible journaling they’re soft, and blend quite well on the thin paper.
Love my Bruts! I have 2 sets and they were not damaged or missing.
Depending on the paper Bruts are amazing for the hobbyist coloring in coloring books. They are a great budget pencils.
I love these pencils😍😍😍 they are my favorite budget pencils my 2nd choice right after my prismas!
Ohh I love this Picture and your Coloring and choice of colors Amazing!! I Appreciate your Reviews!! Thanks!🤗🙏🤟
Interesting review. Another colourist contacted the manufacturing company and they said the word “oily” was a misnomer, a bad translation from Chinese. They are in fact a mix of wax and oil. Oily Pencils on the packaging was just supposed to mean “wax pencils” i.e not graphite pencils.
Edit: the pencils do have names, they’re just not in English.
It would be fantastic if the company would share this information on their website or on their Amazon selling pages. I prefer to do my product research from the actual companies or from the sellers. I worry about passing on miss-information if I do product research from the wrong sources.
@@ColoringBliss I think it would be difficult for them to post that the word oily was a misnomer on their website.
Sure, providing information from other reviewers might provide wrong info but contacting the company prior to doing a review would eliminate any ambiguity or guesswork
Again…it is my belief that the burden of providing product information is on the company. If the customer has to spend hours and days of researching, emailing, comparing and analyzing (I speak from experience unfortunately) just to vaguely understand a product, then there is a problem in the flow of information coming from the company to the consumer. I used to feel obligated to put that kind of effort Into my research until I realized a couple things… 1- the products often change so often that the research I was doing would become obsolete and a complete waste (Arteza is a good example) 2-the faster the companies learn that their consumers are intelligent and thrifty people who want as much accurate information about the products they are buying (so they can make good decisions), the better. If we insist on this level of service and flow of information from them, they will step up and deliver.
@@ColoringBliss ...but you have to bear in mind you are reviewing cheap Chinese brands whose sole focus is to sell as many units as possible. They’re not going to supply pigment information or wax percentages; for the price they are selling, they don’t expect people to care.
It’s a different story with brands that are selling for £100+ to artists because artists both expect and need that information for the price they are paying.
Edit: ...and perhaps that’s the answer, if you want accurate product information and better service then perhaps we should stop buying cheap Chinese brands. It’s exactly the same as “fast fashion”; while there is a demand, the manufacturers will keep making them. And there will always be a demand from people who just like colouring in colouring books and don’t have $100s spare to spend on artist grade pencils.
I am all too aware who these manufacturers are and that they are out to make a quick buck off the consumer. That is why I love comparing them to brands that care about the artist. A new colorist (hobbyist or blooming artist) deserves to know the difference between the pencils without having to spend hours of research. Misleading marketing used by cheap brands can lead to discouraged creative experiences that makes the artist feel that they are somehow “not talented” because they were told these pencils are “just as great as professional grade” when they are not. It is frustrating as a teacher. It is my job to set my students up for success and I can’t do that when manufacturers are literally lying to them to get their money. The best I can do is educate the consumer on the product differences and explain why the artist is probably feeling frustrated and what they can do to have a better experience. It is the eternal consumer battle played out in every market…quality versus quantity, bottom line versus customer care, etc, etc, etc.
Beautifully presented. I like your presentation. Your colouring was awesome.
I love these pencils.
Your picture is lovely.
I love the nail changes 😉
You're a shading master, lovely!
Thank you 🥰
Great review!
I love how they don't roll off my desk when coloring!
Colouring Bliss’s review and your comment sealed the deal for my decision to get these pencils! Haha many thanks to you and to Jennifer for the wonderful video!
@@crystalplanss I do
Ike them..so much that j bought a 2nd pack while the sales were going on..I too use a electric sharner..Mine rakes wood off and not so much the led.. I have osteoarthritis in both thumbs on down to my wrist..they laydown so easily ..with slit of color..I do Appreciate a cheaper pencil cost and liking them so much!! Hugs & enjoy..🤗🙏🤟
Your hair looks lovely tonight!
I love these pencils! I found my fingers felt better gripping the square flat sides, and I do rotate the pencils as you do but found it easier to use. The mediums I use are mostly just pencils, gel pens, and recently added markers. I truly enjoy these and found them to be great to use. I do agree that the names in English would be nice, as well as a better tray set up with the strings on the sides.
PamelasPassionforPencils does have a translation for the Chinese names. Look on her Community tab for the free download. There is an excel spreadsheet with quite a lot of information about the name of each color as well as the culture and history behind the name. No need to wonder what the names are, or to try and redo all the work of translation. One of my favorite color names is “First Love.” It’s a very soft lavender that is so beautiful. It’s easy to add the color names to the Coloring Bliss swatch charts so you don’t have to keep going back to the excel spreadsheet. I put my pencils in a zippered case so the tin isn’t a problem.
I LOVE mine! Needing a second set in several colors already
I bought these because so many people liked them and I kept coveting the Holbein pastel range but I did not want to spend the money. I pulled all the pastels out and some of the lovely greys and made a fabulous set for myself. I also added a few greens in with my Lyra/prismacolor set because I was missing some shades. For the price I am very happy, probably won’t use the ones still in the case, but who knows. I love my pastel set and no longer covet the Holbein. In reality I don’t use a lot of the pastel shades, they were just soooo pretty. Great review thanks!
I just got this set and I love them.
The picture looks great! I have these. I really like them. I call them my second Crayolas.
We are even. I purchased the confetti, and two sets of skin tone crayons because of you.
I love your hair!!! That color is beautiful! As for what I think about the Brutfuner squares, I love mine so much that I got a second set. I agree with the crumbs. They seem to kind of lean more toward waxy than oily but they also blend with my Polychromos pencils. I find that they blend beautifully with a blender pencil. I've used both the Prismacolor (which is, surprisingly, the better one) and Caran D'ache. Heck, if you don't want yours, I'll buy them from you. :D
I love how this is a pencil review, but also an Amazon shipment review. I’m sure it wouldn’t be as banged up it it wasn’t from Amazon.
The pencils just shifted.
I wonder too.If the breaking was in shipping? I do wonder about crumbling..I haven't found that with both my sets. Umm Enjoy them
I absolutely love the square brutfuners
I actually love the square Brutfuner pencils. I use as much as my Prismacolor.
Me too, maybe even more.
Love your haircolor
These pencils are surprisingly nice!
These are my favourite ‘cheap’ pencils. Such high quality for being so affordable, and the lack of open stock isn’t too much of a worry to me because they are pretty cheap to replace :D On a second note, that hair colour looks lovely on you
Total agree. The price is more akin to Crayola than Holbein and should be compared accordingly!
Love your hair color
I had a smaller Exacto sharpener I have to my daughter, it was 10.only at a Ross store. I bought a teacher size one. Large however it Sharpened like a PRO. & my son taught me how to kinda move the pencil a bit backwards no Breakage, and waist of the pencil.. Enjoy them so much..I bought an Extra. Set.I Appreciate your Using them❣️🤟🙏🙏🙏🕊
I like your new hair color. It looks pretty! Thanks for the review. I don't like to buy pencil sets that you can't buy individual replacement pencils.
Let me just say how your hair is always on fire. Very beautiful, and your baby in the back agrees with me. I always run to see your reviews as you and Steve go all out. Thank you.
“Brute fooner” is how I pronounce it, and I LOVE mine. They smell so good and work so well, more like wax.I also have the 520 set which I like. But the 180 Watercolor pencils are not worth the cost. They are not “movable” with a water brush or regular brush with water. It takes a lot of water, and a heavy amount of coloring. The 520 set are round, a different, lesser-quality of wood; and seem to color nearly as well as the 120 square. The square ones are my favorite.
I've had these pencils for several months and absolutely love them. I haven't noticed any crumbs, but I know these are oily and therefore I don't use a heavy hand. I find these very comfortable in my hand as well. I've had no problem with sharpening and use the Dahl 133. I love how bright these pencils lay down and they color beautifully on Amazon prints paper on up to expensive, quality paper. The set also has some unique colors. I have all of the big, expensive brands of colored pencils (except Holbeins) and I reach for the square Brutfruners quite often and I highly recommend them.
I've come back to eat some of my words about not noticing any crumbs...not true, not true. If I use them to color on Springhill 80lb vellum bristol card stock, they are a bit crumbly while using more pressure. I haven't noticed crumbs in any of my coloring "books"...yet.
Thanks for sharing your experience with these pencils. I love to hear how pencils are working for everyone.
I love my Prismacolor Scholars. They are just that touch harder than the Premiers. Would you recommend this set (Brut square) or should I save my money? I don’t even use colored pencils much, but I want to get it ALL. Lol.
@@amyx231 Not sure if you are asking me or Jennifer, but I'll throw my opinion in the hat. Buy them just to have the unique colors they offer. I don't have the Scholars but I believe the Brut Square will fill in the gaps. They have some beautiful pinks, which I just can't find or get the right mix out of my Premiers.
I've had them for several months now, and I do love the colors, but I don't like the square shape for the same reasons as you, and to me they feel more waxy than I would like. Also, I don't have a crank and they are a nuisance to sharpen by hand , and it seems I'm always having to sharpen them. I'll continue to use them but won't be buying again with so many other budget sets out there. Always good to hear your views on products!
Jennifer I use my swordfish sharpener and it works great on these pencils I have the 180 set circled barrels ones
I ran mine through an electric Bostwick classroom sharpener that had the dial with all the size/shape. It made quick work of the task. Then, going forward I use my crank
I got these a bit ago and i didnt have any breakage and there seems to be pencils missing but there aren't. It's just the way the pencils rolled or were put in the tray. If you have them all the same way they will each have their own slot. The " smell" that was with my set was just the smell of freshly sharpened pencils. Of course not the amazing smell of polys but still fresh. If you go onto Pamelas passion for pencils fb group there is a document where it has all the names translated into a swatch chart. The names were not translated by Pamela but someone else and I can't remember the name of her right now. It was super helpful. Some of the names are really lengthy so I just abbreviated them how I liked them and which made sense to me. I think for 120 pencils for $ 24 or so is a killer deal for these. Of course theyre not going to be perfect but I can say that Ive had prismas with worse centered cores and sight paint chips at the end of the pencils ( which ia quite sad because their " formula " is amazing but the actual wood of the pencils are just poor quality and to me seems to be getting worse with every set i get. Some reviews that I saw people were comparing these to polys and some other high end or mid grade oil pencils and I think that its not quite a true comparison due to the price range as you should be getting perfect pencils at a few hundred dollar 120 set of pencils. Just thought Id mention that when I swatch any pencils I first like to sharpen the outer layer of the core to get any material off of it thats put on there by the manufacturer to preserve it. I have found this can make or break my opinion on pencils. I actually really enjoy the square shape. I also readjust my pencils as im coloring and I like how comfortable the square shape is. But it's all subjective. In regards to them having some type water soluble I think many pencils are and we dont realize it until we go to use them and then it's too late and turns into a whoops.Anywho, hope you enjoy them as many other people have. Have a great night!
You are not wrong about the Prismacolor breaking lol
Or the split wood; infact l have not had a perfect set of prismas. They have been split, the writing (or sharpening) have been the wrong way round., When you spend the amount that we have to on prisma it is actually a disappointment. No such disappointment with the square barrel.
I think it looks pretty good!
I have these and I have used my set but at the time I had bad carpal tunnel pain in my right wrist so I have not used them again yet. But I like them for the fact they are oil based
Curiously I had mines all sharpened already when I received them, due to my arthritis hands handicapped! I loved them dearly bc they are oily pencils and handy by its shape which make easy for my prehension! I am having 120 polychromos and I am using them with oil pastels and they are working very with the Burtfuner squares! They are vey easy to place them with theirs numbers when I am working with them with my swatching chart colours! But I won’t recommend them as the first colours pencils to have but just as complementary for my first layerings on big surfaces of colouring!
Ps. I love your hair colours it’s fit well on you!
Thank you for the review. I have the 180 set of brutfuner colored pencils. On Amazon it said they were an oily based pencil and a water soluble pencil. It showed pictures. I am going to give my set to my sister. Oh, and these pencils are round and they have the color names on the pencil written in English. I just ordered the 520 set with an Amazon credit card. I can pay it off over six monthly payments with no interest charge. I love colored pencils and watercolor paints.
Thanks for your comment. I saw the 180 round set when I clicked on Jennifer's Amazon link. I was wondering how they compared. (The good angel on my shoulder is telling me "You don't need ANY more pencils...you don't need any more pencils..)
You shouldn't have said anything about a 520 set because that just triggered my FSS. LOL
@@birdgirl2623 lol, I know FSS feeling. That is what probably prompted me to get the 520 set. Since I didn't have anything on my Amazon credit card, I figured I could afford six non interest payments. The total cost of the 520 set on Amazon is 129.51. So I will pay $21.59 each month for six months. They come in 2 boxes. The odd numbers are in 1st box and the even numbers are in the 2nd box. I haven't had time to play with them yet, and I will be going out of town for 2 weeks, but when I get back I will have fun playing with them.
I also had to get the 520 set, FSS was impossible to resist. I’ve had the 120 square set for several months and I love them. So I had to get the 520, just had to do it.
The 520 are comparable to the squares in the way they go down and layer. One box comes with the odd numbers and the other comes with the even numbers. There is a little number before the color name that is the correct number order. Once you sort the pencils back out numerically, you will see natural breaks for color shading and highlighting. It took me two weeks to sort and swatch them, but I’m so glad I took the time to do it!
I made a color wheel for these pencils with 3 tones for each color, similar to your tri-tone prismacolor wheel.
So did I, and it was hard to get the True Tone’s for some colors with the selection available in the pencils. However, this is not a deal-breaker for me. The colors in this set are so beautiful.
I always say BROOOOTFOOOONER in a German accent! Love that shade of purple on you too!
I love the square ones best.
I just bought mine on sale for $18 (lightening deal on amazon, couldn't resist). I had been holding off as I have Starjoy and Markart, as well as Brut 160 round oily I have had for a while. Oh yes, and the 144 Black Widow series (which is due to have an addition in the fall ....lol... gonna have to get those). But, these are my fave budget oil based. I love the unique colors. My wax budget fav is the Black Widows (I do own full sets of Prisma, Poly, Caran Dache, and Derwent drawing and lightfast... but I reserve those for commission stuff). And...a whole bunch of Pastel pencil (high end lightfast). My idea on the budget pencils was to practice things I needed practice with (rather than use the expensive ones). And, for the most part ...it is working...lol
Hard to judge the pencils when I see such beautiful art work! But I do have them and they are okay but I agree with you about them.
I finally bought them and they are excellent pencils. They would complement my Polychromos absolutely
I think they are pretty and not bad for a less expensive set, they might be something I'd use
I can't imagine long its going to take you to sharpen those with that little metal manual sharpener
Sorry I was late but watching nowi really like these pencils for hair color
I don't like the crumb issues with these pencils too! I noticed it immediately when I began swatching them. And the shape is a little weird at first, but once I got the hang of using them, it didn't bother me so much. Overall, I think these will do the trick and again, they are budget friendly too and they're ok.
I've never noticed crumbling in mine.
Dahle 133 sharpener works great with these…best sharpener ever
These look like really nice pencils, especially for the price. I’m going to buy some for my color by number books.
I have these pencils and no problems with breakage when I received them. (from Amazon US to South Africa) I did not have a problem with crumbs either. The square shape does not bother me at all.
I noticed that Target has a set of 72 pencils in a red tin. The outer tin has the same printing you see on the other white label color pencils. FYI. It's called Llama.
An interesting and informative review of the Brutfuner colored pencils. I have the Guang Hui colored pencils and they perform beautifully they are one of my favorites. Are the Brutfuner pencils the same as the Guang Hui colored pencils? If not how do they perform against each other?
Mine came in perfect condition and I love them but they fit in only one of all my sharpeners and it's one just like yours. I got the set for 20 Euros from german amazon and that's unbelievable value for money :D
Hi Jennifer & Steve sorry im late I have these pencils I do wish they had a better blue & yellow selection but I do enjoy these pencils are you planning on doing tritones for these ones?
Well, you're entitled to your opinion. I love my Bruts.
I got these for $29.98 but just a week later I got them for just $17.98 that is %50 off. Of course I purchased a back up!! LoL 😂😂😂 I do enjoy coloring with them ❤️❤️❤️
I love these pencils for grayscale work especially when I'm using Amazon paper. I don't mind the crumbs.
What is that white divider thingy you have the pencils in while doing the combinations?
Thanks for your opinion. I like theses pencils so far.
That divider was made for me by my son in his Highschool ceramics class. I am so lucky!!
I have the huge..lol I didn't realize how huge the X-acto electric sharpener was..but my son showed me to put in the pencil while lightly turning against the blades for like a few seconds.. Worked PERFECTLY..Oh I hope you like these.. I will go to Pamela's Passion..for names.. She is AMAZING TOO... Enjoy!!🤗🙏‼
I enjoy my Bruts. But I don't think comparing them to Hop find and Derwent is reasonable. Apples and oranges. Inexpensive is inexpensive. But, thanks, Jen. I always appreciate your honesty, Jen!
Totally agree! £132 for Prisma £18 for Brut Squares! Apples and... Grapes 😂
As someone who has a few of the higher end pencils, I appreciate this particular type of comparison. It helps me to decide if it's worth spending the money. At this point, I need a wow factor before spending 20 bucks here and 30 bucks there on so called budget friendly supplies. Those purchases can nickel and dime your pocketbook to death, imo..
The value of comparing is understanding the differences and how best to use particular tools. Comparing any 2 pencils is a valuable exercise as long as all the factors are honestly laid out.
I LOVE your swatch books! Steve is amazing and help put together a custom order for me. I was getting frustrated because I’m a little OCD about wanting my swatch book to be cohesive and consistent. I was wondering, do you have the option to print out the branded swatch charts you put together? I just follow your charts and write them in by hand but I was just curious if that’s something that can be ordered. Love you guys!!! Thank you!!!
Will you be making a Tri tone book for these pencils? And I was also wondering if you’d ever be willing to show your watercolor pencil tri tone books completed? I’ve been curious on how you have them, how much is activated or if all.. I’m sorry! I don’t mean to be high maintenance. I’m just very trusting of your products and advice :) again, thank you for all the tools you release for us! It’s been amazing for me to have for reference and I love swatching lol so filling out the tri tone books are a lot of fun and educational :)
Teresa Ivanore has a swatch sheet, with names, on her Facebook page. EXCELLENT!
I just put a pen grip on mine and they turn well for me while colouring.
Are there only the version of glossy pencils available recently?
I have the matte version which I bought 2 years ago. I remember there were only matte pencils at the beginning. The glossy paint seems cheaper
I wonder if the quality went down,..... i really like these. I didnt notice a crumb problem which would have been an problem for me.
Same, I have two sets of these and they’re excellent. Soft and blendable, not crumby at all. To be honest, Jennifer’s didn’t look that crumbly either so 🤷🏻♀️
I would be very interested to see if other colors bleed this way.. I quilt and a red or dark red(maroon) tends to do the most leaching of color and I wonder if you hit it with a vinegar based substance if it would prevent that leaching.. I use vinegar to retard fabric from doing the same.. but I would only do on a natural fiber paper like cotton! Just an idea!
Thanks for the review! I really dislike most crumbly pencils. Prismacolors are the exception. *lol* I really don't like triangle-shaped pencils, so I doubt I'd like the square ones. Honestly, I've become less and less enamored with budget friendly pencils over the past couple of years. I've become more selective about my art related purchases. Thanks for sharing!
I agree! Having a high quality art tool is a lovely necessity when you sit down to create.
I really like Brutfuner squares pencils!
I don't find any problem with it. No crumbs. I actually prefer it way more than Prismas.
The whole picture is lovely but the frame is plum gorgeous even though you had a bit of trouble !
Have you tried frame a drawing made using these pencils and hang on a wall? I would like to know if the colors of Brutfuner will fade? and how to prevent it if the answer is yes
I love the Brutfuner 180 rounds!!!!
Me to
Ty I do own them but haven't broke them out busy with work n doamond painting I try in cor in the eve but my cat wants to cuddle n can't seem to break them out.
I just recently bought these and mine are a round pencil. So I was surprised when you said they were square.
Btw Amazon just posted the 520 set of Brutfuner just in the last week cos it wasn't there b4 and it was listed at 125.00 but I haven't checked today!! I am saving for them as we speak!
Lindsay the Frugal Crafter reviewed the 520 set and they are very different than the 120 set and she didn't like them nearly as much.
@@maryyoungblood8550 I saw that review and I think love/hate is all up to the individual, Brutfuner has a 520 of both the oily and the water color so I wonder, I own Crayola(48) and CraZart (12) so for me anything is a step up lol
Thanks for the review Jennifer! But now Im a bit worried about the square shape...
I used these pencils more and more and like them for pigmentation..
Sweet Jennifer you still are young! I turned 70 a week ago Tuesday! I feel old.
If your lucky enough or blessed you get to be old! The alternative is no good!
Thank you for your honesty on these pencils. I did purchase them a few months ago, haven't had an opportunity to utilize them yet. I think I'll let my grandchildren use them. I was excited to see new items available! I love all your products!!!!
I wouldn’t hand them to kids before you have coloured a page. They are not uncomfortable for me and the crumb issue isn’t an issue for me. They are really nice pencils.
These are the only ones I have and enjoy the grip. Wish they were a little more soft and oily.
I have had no problem sharpening mine using my manual Baumgartens Two-hole Metal Pencil sharpener
