These seem nice. I was impressed by the metallic shades. Right now I’m not feeling the need for these but enjoyed watching you play with them.
Here in Australia I had to pay Amazon $73 for this set. I agree the package was well protected. It is the only tin of pencils bought that has travelled half way round the world and survived the transit. My other pencils generally arrive in tins so banged up you cannot reuse it. Many sets I’ve returned because the pencils themselves have broken cores. I’m happy with my Kalour sets.
I've fallen in love with these pencils based on this unboxing! Just ordered them from Amazon. Thank you!!!
I really enjoyed this video. These budget friendly pencils lay down really well. Great review!!🤗
Thank you for your review! I've fallen in love with them simply by watching this video. I definitely want to get this set, so I've decided that they'll be my Christmas gift to myself this year.
It was like Christmas waiting for this video to come out, and I was not disappointed! Great job as always! I love how thorough you are in your reviews. I purchased this set but am waiting until my birthday to gift them to myself, so it was great to hear that this was an excellent purchase.
So many of you asked me to review these pencils. I ordered them and received them the next day (which was last night). I got up early this morning to put together this video, get it edited, and up for a live premiere this evening. It was a lot of work, but so worth it. I wanted to open them last night and was so excited, but had to wait to show you all how well they were packaged. I was truly amazed at the packaging alone which is something you don't find with most pencils - not even artist-grade pencils. I hope you have a wonderful birthday!
@@PamelasPassionforPencils thank you! I appreciate all that you do, and I know that you put an extraordinary amount of work in finding the great deals, and in doing the reviews and tutorials. Your FB group is my absolute favorite, and your videos are my favorites as well.
I just received mine on Monday and I love them! I’m an Prisma Color pencil girl but I fell in love with these too! Great video!
I forgot to mention I have the 180 set with the elephant packaging and these are way more creamier and easy to blend. Also, these pencils are thicker than the 180 set.
I order them and am watching this video a second time. Can't wait. 😍😍😍😍😍
The metallics are gorgeous! That is quite the set. Out of all the budget friendly brands, which one offers the best experience on different papers for coloring, blending, and layering? Thank you for the review.
Thanks for the review; this makes me really like and want this set!
I've had my eye on these for a while. I'm looking forward to your review :)
I hope my review helped you to decide. I will color with these a bit and let everyone know how I like them in my Facebook group.

Well, I ended up getting the Brutfuner 180, Black Widow Monarch 48 and the Amazon Basic premium 72s.
I'm waiting for my sharpeners bc my current kit is missing stuff due to gifting things to my kids and neighbor kids who drew and colored. At the time, I was busy with work and had zero time for my hobby. Being retired now, I can enjoy my hobby.
So happy to get back to this thank you for the reviews that helped me with my purchases...so cool!
If I may ask, do you have any tutorials on drawing with Essential Tremors. I have ET, and I am trying to work through this and still have fun.
Thank you 😊

Pamela, thanks for sharing your first impressions of these pencils. I have been curious about them, so I just purchased a set. I’m also probably going to get the pencil sharpener. I have been trying to find a sharpener that works for me. I’ve tried the Afmat, but it doesn’t exactly give me the point I want. I have been using the little Prismacolor sharpener, but sometimes I get a lot of breakage with my Prismacolor. I look forward to watching you color with these Kalour pencils. Love your channel.

Thanks for reviewing the Kalour pencils. I had already ordered them. I hope I like them. 😊

I just brought me the Kalour 240 colored pencils set, two days ago. I been waiting for a chance to buy them, I have the 180 set. Colored barrels. Which are fantastic, along with several other colored pencil sets I have.
I do have the 150 prismacolor set to
These made such a stir, and even the later sets such as the 300 and 520 as well.
The reality is that people with a big coloring presence online don't really end up using them, ever after the first initial review.
Always back to Prisma, Polychromos, the same few pencils.
They are really pretty!! They do have the same color names as Shuttle Art 180 and Brutfuner 180 so I think they are the same manufacturer. You do get way more colors which is fun, but if you have these other sets they will be some duplicates... Love your videos :)
The Bruts 180 set are black barrels so I’m not sure they’re the same. I’ll have to look into that. I know the 180 Bruts, 180 Kalour, and 180 Soucolor are the same.

I would have like to see you compare the whites to the Arteza and Markart. I understand why you picked the prism white and the poly white but, I think it is really important with the Chinese sets that we are not fooled into buying the same product more then once.
In fact, we are already buying the same pencils over and over. Except of course, pencils made elsewhere!
@@twingytwango6971 it’s my policy to not purchase white labeled pencils combing out of china any longer. I have a few sets but have saved for the legacy brands. I am at a point though where my list is really limited to replacements and new release pencils from said above brands
@@emilygoodwin5723 ahhh okay! I’m in Europe so my first purchases were European brands. Of course, my art abilities or skills are nowhere close to the qualities of those pencils. As I’m still at the very young stage I use a few of the ‘budget’ brands to practise and throw away without feeling guilty. But I’m so with you on that! I’ve recently found a Chinese brand that stinks to the hills and are an exact copy of Faber Castell. Only in numbers and colours but not in quality and this type of copyright abuse enrages me. That's what's happening!! That's why we have to pass the word. I wrote it in my Amazon review but received an email few days later saying that my review wasn't fitting with their policies so they didn't published it, and thank me.
I really want to get this and the 520 Brutfuner sets! This is so pretty!
I live in france. They are quite a bit more expensive on Amazon france, but the most interesting thing is they are clearly marked as oil based colored pencil. Thanks for the review.
I just received my 240 set today! Thanks for the review
Hi Pamela! I really enjoyed your video and expert comments, and learned much - Thank you. Although it's a year later, I thought you might interested to hear that today's (1st Dec '22) Amazon UK price for these pencils - after a 20% discount - is: £106.05 (£0.44 per pencil)!!! Humph!! Hi! Thanks for the video! As a knitter I lose track of which row I am on and I use hash marks when I start a new row. You could try it for your layers if you need to keep track, but if you are like me you may forget to make the hash marks!😉😂
I'm a knitter also , and I'm always losing track of my rows, even making has had marks, and using a row counter!!! Lol
@@pennyrockysmomma4445 that's why I could never learn how to knit...I would forget what row I was on. I couldn't remember if I made a hash mark or not, lol. So I just gave up.
I don't count layers when I color either. I try to use three colors, then I know I have three layers, after that its a free for all, lol.
You had mentioned that you were going to possibly do a swatch sheet in color family. I was just wondering if you did. I sure could use your help with that. I tried but I’m not doing so great 😄

Thank you so much for your very thorough review.. I've been on the fence with these pencils. Thinking of getting other sets vs. these.. your video helped me decide to get them.. I love the color range. And they do seem similar to the Arteza and Markart which have been catching my eye..I'm just starting, just coloring books. learning how to use color to make my pictures really pop.. so light -fastness is not a big deal to me. I was really wanting a bigger color range to have more fun with until I learn how to make my own colors..and basically that's what this set is.. so thank you so much for your time, knowledge, and hard work in reviewing these pencils for us so we'll know exactly what we're getting.. I hope you're doing well and God Bless.
I'm so glad my video review was helpful. I love doing pencil reviews and always try to provide all the information that I would want to know myself if I were shopping for colored pencils. I love this set and I think you'll be very happy with them. Please update me after you receive them and get to play with them a bit.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils so I received them and OMG sooo many colors, so many metallics...they had the color range that I wanted, but unfortunately they weren't for me. I had some set backs with some of the pencils that kind of turned me off..also i think i prefer a softer, creamier pencil..so I returned them and sent off for the Arteza 120 set..I have the 72 set so I do know I like that brand.. so I will have the brutfuner square and macaron set, which I really do love and the Arteza set..thank you again for the review. I don't regret buying the 240 kalour set. I'm glad I bought them and got a chance to give them a run...im new to all of this so im kind of learning what i like..I'm not saying they're bad just not for me.. they may be perfect for someone else..thank you again. :) still can't get over how many metallics their were so many more than you showed in the video. Lol
I just receive the 40 Kalour pencils. The violet was taped in the lid as well as the swatch card. I was impressed with the packaging too. Haven't swatched them yet.
I'm glad you received yours. You will need to let me know how you like them after you get a chance to use them a bit.
I have that pencil sharpener, absolutely love it and yes the crayola pencils are very hard wood and so hard to sharpen. Question, do you ever replace the blades in the sharpener, and where could I buy it?
All of my metallic pencils were together on most of one tray and about ⅓ of another tray instead of being spread out through all the colors. I bought mine in February 22.
My 240 pack of Kalour pencils also has that same violet sticker on the dark grey.
I have the set of macaron pastel colors of Kalour and I don't know if it's just me but I used one of them for a base color and when I went over it with a Prisma for my next color it did not react well. It seemed like it the Kalour pastel mad the wax from the Prisma clump up and look a little splotchy. Like I said, it could just be me and the way I laid down the layers of color. I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong, or what the problem was, but they didn't work well together for me. Just thought I'd share that!
I’m coloring with mine right now….Just love these pencils……. I have three pencil’s cases right now. Need to get my forth…..Just found your channel…..Just subscribed……..Judy D from NY State
Love this demonstration .. Have a question can you please demonstrate how gamasol would work for blending I'm thinking of purchasing this set but , fascinated with the gamasol technique .. There’s two sets on Amazon UK one £44 the other set £119 hubby just ordered me the £44 set and case for Christmas, I did check and they are both the same set, love your video amazing as always xx
Very interesting reading. Today's price - First December '22 - on Amazon is £106!!! I shall keep looking. Enjoy your pencils and case in a couple of weeks time: Happy Christmas! Marion, North Somerset UK.
Been debating getting these, at first I thought I wanted the 300 set, but I saw how huge the tin was and how many colors there were and it was a little overwhelming so I decided it would be better to get this one since its a bit smaller and hopefully more manageable for me. I have many high end, mid grade pencils but I thought it would be nice to have some budget pencils that I wouldn't mind taking with me places since they'd be easier to replace than others if they got lost or broken. Plus I like to color with friends and family sometimes and after my sister dropped not one but two sets of Prismas and completely shattered them inside I figured I needed a budget set for use with friends and family that I won't be too upset about if they got dropped but were still nice enough that I and whoever I color with would actually want to use with a good selection of colors. I think this fits the bill for me, but I've also been eyeing the Black Widows and the Arteza pencils but I think I might end up liking those enough that I'll hoard them for myself based on the reviews I've seen lol.
Edit: for white pencils, Prismacolor, Caran D'Ache Luminance, Derwent Drawing and Holbein (specifically the soft white) are the best from what I've seen.
They look nice x
These pencils are great, they are layering pencils tho… not blending …they will blend slightly with a blender pencil..but layer them…they work beautifully
I bought the 300 set. They seem to be very nice pencils. I'm in the middle of swatching in color family order. It is taking me a bit as I am a mom, like you, with lots of other things going on!! 😂 I would love to know the kind of printer I should use to print off your swatch charts, ink jet, laser, toner? Until I have a good printer to print digital items with, I feel very stuck... 😢
They look nice and how do I find the price. I am a newbie as of 5 days. I got the cheap on kids use at school. Then I jeans you need a better sets. So I brought two different sets from Walmart of the good kids yesterday. I couldn't believe the difference
I have the "Kalour 180" and the "Shuttle Art 180" and when you swatch them you can see that the two sets are identical.
Mine has the sticker on both the lid and the chart. Correcting a misprint is my guess.
It’s got the violet sticker on the color chart also
Will there be a swatch color chart for these?
I would love to get a swatch chart with them all in color family order.
From the budget friendly color pencil which are the top 3 that has a combination of nice, variery and easier to blend with? I see so many that is overwhelming. Crayola, Black Widow, Kolour, ect.
I just did an unboxing too. I ended up breaking a nail trying to open up the tin lol I'm having trouble with getting them to blend well. I was thinking they felt more Iike an oil base too.
The tin was pretty difficult to open. I chipped my nail polish! 😢
My set just came today and I have the same sticker on my lid.
After seeing few reviews and unboxing plus colours I was very tempted so bought a set from Amazon. Not sure after a year they have changed or I was sent a fake but it came in a plastic bag not even Amazon bag or box. When I opened the pencil and the box smelled like dead rat. I tried over 12 pencils which most broke with every use or sharpening. I gave up trying to swatch after 3 trays as half of them the lead kept breaking when tried to sharpen even when I used 3 different sharpeners. I was very dissapointed.
I love these pencils for the quality, price and performance. I have small sets; the 72 metallic and 72 macaron/pastels. I’d like to add more to this collection, if I got the 240 would I have duplicated colors? The 300? And what about the 520, how many are duplicates to my 144 metallic/macaron? Any idea? Thank you so much
On my box there's no violet sticker attached to the dark grey. The whole name is printed as dark grey violet.
oh yes swatch chart...
I like Kalour, I have the 120 set.
Did you ever get the 300 set? If so, do you have a swatch chart available? If not, do you have a 240 swatch chart?
I don’t have the 300 set because the 240 colors is already overwhelming for me 😂 I don’t have a swatch chart for the 240 set. I’m starting to think I need to just make one because I get asked this so often. The thought of putting that many pencils into color family order scares me 😳 I may have to eventually buckle down and get it done! I have another couple sets I’m working on right at the moment though.
I was impressed by the metallic pencils. I'd like to see all of them swatched on black paper. I really hope you organize them by color / blending one to the next. I saw a demo of Derwent china white drawing pencil, boy that was a bright white opaque color. I'm looking for a wax based budget pencil that has names on the pencil and even the color number if possible. Prismacolor pencils are out of my budget.
The Prismacolor are actually greatly discounted right now. You can find the here: amzn.to/3lePMLU
I’ll have to grab a Derwent white drawing pencil. I’ve heard the same.

Like that this set has so many reds, it seems most budget and mid range pencils are severely lacking in the red department I’m always on the hunt for sets with lovely deep and ruddy reds
Most sets do lack reds so I totally agree. I love the selection in this set.
I just got my set today (no longer the discount price though) but they are packaged so well, as were yours. I wondered, have you done any work on sorting these pencils into color families and gradations yet? If so please let me know to save me the time and trouble of doing it all myself. OR are they in order right out of the box?
I am so glad you were able to grab these wonderful pencils. They did go back up in price and even weren't available for a short time. I am lucky to have gotten them at such a great price when they were first released. I most likely won't be putting these into color family order. They are really in a nice order in the tin they are in. All the blues, all the reds, etc. This is just far too many pencils to put in order and it may just make me crazy if I tried. 😂😜
@@PamelasPassionforPencils : I've spent days trying to get them into color family order and into a pencil case and I can tell you it is really hard. The order mine were in was not in color order that I would normally accept but now that they are all mixed up I have to get them into some kind of order and because the numbering is so off, I can't set all the colors on one page of my very large zippered case. Sigh. Oh well...I must admit that I do like using them. They are quite smooth and blendable. Shortly after I purchased them the price went down for Black Friday sales. ARGHHHH!!
Can you tell me if that sarosa white pen writes over top of colored pencils?
I probably wouldn’t use that particular white gel pen. It is only 0.5 mm and so it doesn’t write in a stream of ink. I use that one for many other things like for journaling or planning.
Do you have the 520 set yet of the bruts? Curious why you haven’t purchased them yet. I haven’t decided if I should. I would love your opinion if you think they are different than these ones or the Soucolor.
I haven’t purchased them because that’s just so many pencils. I feel like these are the perfect in between - more then all the 180 Black Widows and not too many to be overwhelming like the 520 Brutfuner set.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils Thank you. Curious from what you know or have heard, do you know if the pencils in the 180 set are the same pencils in the 520 or if the pencils in the 520 set are less quality?
@@thecoloringoasis5616 The 180 set have black barrels are are the same as all the other 180 sets with black barrels - Soucolor and Kalour sets.

I wonder how lightfast these are.
What sharpener did you use on these again? I didn't catch that. Thanks.
Do you have the fluorescents in this set? I got a bunch of them in my set and personally I don’t like them and will never use them!
Would anyone know what the difference is between the pencils in the red tin and the pencils in the black tin?
The ones in the red tin are only 180 pencils whereas this set has 240 pencils. I think the 180 set is a bit softer. They are the same as the Soucolor 180 and the Brutfuner 180 with the black barrels. If you have either of those sets, then you wouldn't need the 180 set of Kalour.
