    Dare I say I love my 120 Brutfuner pencils more than my Prismacolor...?
    I do, I do, I do!! 😃
    Sooo pigmented! You can sharpen them to a fine point and not have to worry about them breaking. Plus I don't have to apply layer after layer after layer to achieve my desired degree of situation. And the price, A-MAZ-ZING!!!!
    One of the best coloring purchases I've made in quite some time! 😍😍

    Thanks for doing the comparison video. I'm glad the square 120's do well in WOF. I've been having trouble finding oil pencils that work well in Johanna Basford's books. I would like to have options other than Prisma for her books. I've colored several pictures in WOF with Arteza colored pencils and they worked beautifully. Also the Staedtler Ergosoft work well in WOF, but they work best when well sharpened. I'm just starting with the square 120 Brutufners and I didn't get off to a good start coloring a leaf in Nightfall. I will have to try again. That book has more tooth than any other paper I've colored on, it's not easy to get it burnished with any pencil I've used so far including Prismas. I'm glad the 180's work well in that book, I have them too but haven't used them yet. Daydreams, Hanna Karlzon, has paper that I've found to be most receptive to every pencils I've tried in it so far. Thanks again, great video!

    • @edeneverly2573
      @edeneverly2573 Před 2 lety +1

      I checked with that brand and the Soucolor is WAX not oil, so they are two different types of pencil. I see people continually claiming sets are the same, including reviewers and it's a bit upsetting seeing them repeat that the sets are the same. If s pencil set does not clearly say OIL then I'd say it's wax and I'd at least contact to be sure. That'd be a major mistake. I'm kind of blown away with videos with folks not knowing that all these various companies look the same because they come our of the same factories that are black label. They work just like cosmetics such as eyeshadow. They go through a catalog and choose packaging options, choose a basic stock pencil and then there are some basic formula options. They look the same because they literally have one basic look then you just choose color, pencil type, fonts and then they slap a logo on them. All these Chinese companies including Castle Arts, which actually is not any more superior than all these others, they just market and brand better seemingly to compete with Arteza (they can't, in my opinion), are using the same manufacturers and thsrs why they look and act similarly. Its mostly in packaging, but it doesn't guarantee its the same exact set, and wax/oil is a meaningful difference, esepecialy for artists who need and prefer oil over wax for what they want to achieve. I almost bought one of these so called "same sets" to save myself ten bucks but I needed to be sure. Nothing on the package saying oil, unlike the actual oil thst says so. Sure enough! I would've been really angry and had to return and reorder, as I have no need for wax pencils.
      Everyone needs to stop assuming, stop telling people they are the same and buyer beware! Always check with the company first!

      @BlueKungFu Před 3 lety +8

      Honestly both sets are really good & the blending difference between them is small, they both blend well. It really depends on what you want to use them for. I would say that the 120 square set are a better all round pencil because they work better on smoother paper whilst still performing well on paper with more tooth. So if you are a colourist who colours on lots of different types of paper, get the square ones. If however you always print out your coloring pages on a specific paper which has tooth, or you're more an artist than a colourist and again use art papers with a surface, then the 180 set is better because they perform slightly better on rougher paper & they have a larger range of colours. Hope that helps.

  • @renoftheshadows

    idk if anyone has said this yet, but the 180 is actually wax based. They are the exact same pencils as the Soucolor 180. Made by the same manufacturer, just different companies slapping their label on them. That happens a lot with Chinese pencils. Different people trying to capitalize on the exact same pencil. Just like how the Costco Kirkland diapers are made by the same manufacturer as Huggies. People just pay more for the brand.

    • @edeneverly2573
      @edeneverly2573 Před 2 lety +1

      No, they are NOT. They are oil and say so! The 180 is OIL the SOU is WAX. They are not the same. They only look the same because all those companies use the same black label manufacturer. They choose options from a catalog and slap their logo. That's why they look the same, not because they are the same pencil. The Brutfuner 180 goes to lengths describing the pencil and clearly describe and label them as OIL. Gosh. Getting ridic.
      If the description and box especially don't say oil then assume wax, but contract and confirm before you buy. Do not rely on folks who make assumptions. You'll likely cause yourselves stress.

    So they aren’t the same pencils? This just goes to show how poor quality they are- the product should be the same. Not totally different pencils between two sets. Anything from China can’t be trusted. Look up white labeling- a factory will make colored pencils (or another product) for multiple
    Companies. All those weirdly names color pencils come from the same company just different labels and brands- SAME pencil.
    When you buy a quality brand made in Europe like Caran D’Ache, Derwent, Faber Castel or even Holbein in Japan, you will get quality and consistency. If it’s made in China don’t trust it

    • @PamelasPassionforPencils
      @PamelasPassionforPencils Před 2 lety +13

      Hi Sarah, I completely understand your point, but I have many subscribers that love budget-friendly colored pencils from China. I understand white-labeling and how that works very well. Not everyone can afford to go out and purchase something like Caran d'Ache, Derwent, or Faber Castel. For that reason, I do many videos on budget-friendly sets as well as artist-grade sets of colored pencils. I have quite a large amount of subscribers that are beginners. When you're first discovering this hobby, and not sure if you're going to stick with it, these budget-friendly choices are wonderful to have. These pencils are not the same at all. They are two completely different sets and that's okay. It gives us colorists variety whether it comes from China, Germany, or Japan. I have many different colored pencil sets and use my budget friendly sets from China just as much as I use my Prismacolors, or Caran d'Ache Luminance or Pablos. Happy Coloring using whatever colored pencil set you're enjoying at the moment.
