  • Biracial, multi cultural, multi ethnic, mixed ethnicity...people in Hawaii (where my grandparents are from) sometimes refer to it as hapa. But whatever you want to call it, being a mix of two very different ethnicities and cultures is an interesting experience. At least, for me, it's been something to reflect on and observe within myself, my interests, my behaviors, etc. And so, I wanted to make this quick little video to simply share some of that with you.

I’m of Mexican and German ancestry, but both my Mexican and German family have lived in the US for generations. It’s a different experience, depending on how many generations your family has lived in the US, I don’t feel very connected to either culture, I just feel American, or Texan to be more specific.

You’re so cool. I’m super American and my parents are born in United States in the Bay Area where we currently are and they are ethnically Chinese and Mexican. Being mixed is so hard sometimes, feeling like I don’t belong anywhere. Thank you for sharing your story!

Thanks for sharing that and thanks for the compliment. Yeah, it can be a bit tough sometimes, huh? It's also what makes us unique. I think we just need to find the things that we appreciate about ourselves and realize that we probably won't feel 100% accepted into either of those cultures but that's okay.

I'm also a half and half. As my friends say. Half Mexican on my dad's side and your basic mixed Caucasian on my moms side. We never learned Spanish growing up so there was also a language barrier when visiting my dad's parents and older relatives. 30 some years later I'm trying to learn Spanish via Duo lingo. I've learned more than I have in my highschool Spanish classes. But having a tutor would be great. My husband is also mexican. But he dosent see the need to help me learn either. 😢

Dude, that is such a nice thing to hear. Thank you! What kind of stuff do you like best that I should continue making? I've been working this CZcams thing for a while. Trying to stay true to me and my interests but it's tough sometimes when all the work doesn't reach anyone. Thank you again!

@@mindful_wander It's quite a difficult task to balance being true to your craft versus catering to a demographic that crave instant gratification. I think your travel vlogs going around different countries are so fun but maybe it's catered towards people like me that have more of a love for a cinematic approach. Maybe people would like you interviewing other people on the streets? Those videos are really popular right now. I can imagine it might be difficult though. I'm an introvert and I'm scared to approach anybody lol However, it's important to take into consideration other factors such as algorithms. I myself must confess I don't believe in an algorithm pattern and it's more about luck and what CZcams decides to put a spotlight on. There's creators that don't even do half of the hard work and dedication that you put into your videos yet they have tons of views and subs!? It's strange! And this is not to bash on other creators. It's just to highlight the fact that not only is your channel going unrecognized but it's not even being showcased. It took me around 4 clicks to come across one of your videos and I instantly wanted to support you. I used to make videos like a decade ago and had the same experience as you so hopefully you can get the recognition you deserve because the amount of years you've been producing videos is admirable.

@@willynickyes, you hit the nail on the head. It’s tough to balance those things and I agree that an approach such as interviews might be a good idea. I’m pretty introverted myself, so I get ya there. Still think I’ll give it a try though. Thanks for your input! It’s seriously having an impact on me. All the best!

Great video! I've always wondered what it's like to be biracial, especially when your two cultures are drastically different from both each other, and the culture of the country you live in.

I accidentally came across this channel and this is so interesting. I’m Mexican/American. But I have my son who is the first in our family to be mixed Mexican/Filipino, my son is in the Philippines and speaks Tagalog, doesn’t know any Spanish. It will definitely be an interesting experience for him to meet his grandparents from his Mexican side. And just be exposed to his Mexican culture.

You shouldn’t, what matters is how you feel about yourself, not what others think. Mexicans in general, from what I’ve seen, are more accepting of other ethnic groups, because most Mexicans are mixed anyway, with Spanish and indigenous ancestry, and other mixes as well. It’s a nationality, not a race. There are Asian Mexicans.
