    a word about their warranty. 22 years ago, my house burned to the ground. in the ashes, we found both of my leatherman tools, still in their melted nylon holsters, warped, and burned beyond repair. I took pics of the house remains, and told the story of the fire, and sent it to their warranty department. they sent me back 2 brand new tools, with the upgraded versions of both. free of charge.

      These stories sound nice, but the reality is that unless you have a really fantastic tale that they can use to sell more tools, the warranty department will look for any excuse to deny your claim.

    • @OtherThanIntendedPurpose
      @OtherThanIntendedPurpose Před 3 lety +10

      @@indawgwetrust4255 that has not been my experience with them. aside from the tools from the house fire, I have sent 2 other tools in over the years, and one of them was replaced no problem, the other I had marked as highly sentimental ( it was one I had bought in 1985 while serving in the ARMY, and had carried on 4 continents.) that one they repaired the problem, and sent it back, cleaned, sharpened and ready to use.

      Other Than Intended Purpose sounds like a completely different company from the one I dealt with. I asked if they would replace the big flathead after it snapped off, even though i had reprofiled the blade and adjusted the screws. They said no. I asked if they could at least send me a replacement for the broken flathead, and they quit responding.
      I should've taken it out back and hit it with a 9mm, then sent it in with a sob story about how it save my life.

  • @gooe9561
    @gooe9561 Před 5 lety +67

    Leatherman should make a tool that has the individual pieces available separately. You order the skeleton of the tool, then add the pieces that you want. If you want tweezers, add them. If you want scissors, add them. If you don't want a flathead screw driver, don't add it, etc. That way, everyone gets the leatherman they want. A "build-your-own", so to speak.

    I have the leatherman rebar, sidekick, style ps, and am on my second surge set. My first surge set was lost in a move. Leathermans warranty process sets the bar high for multitools. My sidekick is a true sidekick and worked until it broke and even after. When i snapped the needlenose portion of the pliers i was working with it outside in the arctic at around 60 below zero. I emailed them about buying a new plier head and they said no worries send it back. I sent it back and they fixed it and sent it back to me. When i got it back i realized they went through the whole tool. They refurbished it and sharpened every blade on it as well as fixing up the flat head screwdrivers. Talk about customer service, leatherman cares alot about its customers and they dont screw around with their warranties. They want you to know they are there for you. Customer for life here.

    I have most of these (and more) and while i do carry many of them in rotation, the juice S2 seems to be the perfect edc size and tool set. I totally thought the skeletool would be my edc cuz it looks great, is minimal, and has a great blade but it feels heavy as hell for a minimal tool set. My second favorite is an oldie but goodie in the pulse. The older designs were tight, compact and lighter. They reshaped the pliers for more power but that added a lot of size and weight so i think it was a mistake. They did it so tim can do his nail test with the pliers where he cuts a 16 penny nail in half. Its dumb and id rather carry less weight and size daily than be able to cut a nail. If i need to cut a nail, im getting a heavier tool anyway. I mean they are called wire cutters, not nail cutters. The squirt can cut wire.

    I have owned a Wave for over 15yrs and got the Wave Plus several months ago, ironically I carry the Rebar I got, even more. Something about that throwback to the original PST. I kept my Wingman in the go-satchel for years, but it never got the use that my Wave did, and I switched the Wave Plus to bag duty, with the Rebar on my belt. I'm a die hard Leatherman guy, but I've only gotten what I use and know I'm going to get good function out of.
    My dad just got the Wave Plus I got him for Christmas to replace the Wal-Mart cheapie multi-tools that he has been fooling with. He got a PST back when they first came out while he was on the Air Force. For some odd reason he retired it for the cheapie junk so I had to get him back on track. Hands down favorite plier based multi-tool. Cheers guys!!!

The reason I carry the super-tool is the strength of the philips blade. I use it a lot and the only blade not used yet is the can opener.

    I've had the Wave for about 15 years, it's hard to beat for camping or just about anything else. The TNP approved Juice S2 is great EDC, so is the Skeletool. The Sidekick is just that in the center console. The Squirt is nice if you don't want much in your pocket. I think I might need to add a Mut to my range bag. I love them all!

    Your Squirt has lasted five years? Well, I've had a Micra on my keyring constantly since 1996, and it still works fine! I lost it in a camping field once, and went back the next day to find it. I also have an original Supertool from 1997 (Leatherman tools used to be date stamped inside the handles, don't know if they still are). These days, though, my favourite EDC Leatherman is the Rebar - not too big, not too small, all the tools I need, none that I don't, no separate bits to lose. I have a Wingman as well, but that combo blade kind of spoils it for me. Leatherman should offer a plain edge blade option for the Wingman.

    I carry the Skeletool. The screw driver is actually useable (pretty much as useable as the Gerber Center drive), the knife is decent steel, a good shape and so easy to access (plus a liner lock). You missed the extra bit that's stored in the side, which is really useful. The overall shape and look is really cool as well. All in all, it's brilliant.
