SOG in general makes some real crap, but the powerpint is a gem in a sea of garbage. I wish they would learn.
Some strong feelings there from a pro. The PowerPint is the only SOG I own and I do wish the fold out tools were higher quality but they nailed the form factor. Listen up Leatherman.
I agree but my powerpint has defective scissors. I'm expecting to return for a fix or ?. I like it alot though.
Gave Powelitre to my cousin to his 15th birthday, with bits set and pouch. When he opened the box, his eyes glowed, think he was happy.
Not my favorite. The Powerpint’s quality is rather inferior. Dull blade, mine arrived bended and the pliers chipped easily. And yes, I bought it from an official dealer. I am still waiting for the proper mini-Wave.
Agree 100% on Leatherman needing to make a mini Wave. It would fly off the shelves.
You're lucky that the Arc „only“ costs $230 in the US. In Germany we have to pay the equivalent of $320… 😅
I carry a nextool mini sailor in my ticket pocket, it's filled the niche of the leatherman squirt. It's a great tool, incredibly valuable.
I love my Wave+, but that Arc is sooo Nice! Would love to have one 😍
I have the Leatherman:
1) Squirt (EDC)
2) Wave Plus (and the add-on bits set)
3) Style PS (to pass TSA screening - no blade)
4) Rebar
5) Original PST (from the 1970s)
Awesome Leatherman lineup.
Love my skeletools and I’ve modded some tools to fit in the bit section like a saw. It will be in my upcoming videos 😊 Thank you for taking time to give me advice! You’re the best!
No problem 👍
Bought the original one in leather case when it was invented. Still have it in pristine condition. Not paying $250 for one!
Wow. You’re super lucky. 👍🏻
Me too, except I inherited my dad's one. I get the impression the newer ones are chunkier, which doesn't appeal to me.
I definitely agree with your thoughts on smaller leatherman. I have a few different models, but the one I carry every day is the leatherman squirt. I’d be super happy if they brought that model back or one that’s a similar size with pliers.
Wave+ in the belt sheath for work. Vic Compact outside of work. Also have a Vic Swiss Champ for bag carry.
My intro into leatherman was a Juice C2... Still have one... And I agree Leatherman has missed the mark in not having a like for like replacement. The sidekick and wingman just don't cut it. I agree with your 4 picks... I personally have a a few Skeletools.. A Wave+.. A Free P2 (which for me is better than the P4.. The extra tools do not make up for the cost) and today I got myself an Arc for my birthday... I don't agree about the Free T4 though... It works well for me... But yes I would prefer any 91mm SAK with a scissor ... But what the SAK don't have is the one handed opening... If you could maybe suggest something akin to a SAK but offers one handed opening... I live in South Africa and we don't have the widest range of premium multi tools. Love your work 👍
Thanks for sharing. Sounds like we have a lot of the same kit. 😂. Appreciate that the T4 works for a lot of people and power to them. It’s a quality tool, I just don’t get it.
Great video! When I first started looking to buy a multi-tool a couple of years ago of course I went straight to the Leatherman site. It's what people often think of first. But I decided that I couldn't justify the cost as a new multi-tool user. I wasn't sure it was something I'd even WANT to carry regularly. But I wanted to try one out. I opted for the Gerber Suspension NXT and it was a great first one! Very affordable and did what I needed it to do. After a bit I wanted something more compact to carry around regularly and went with the SOG PowerPint. It is a GREAT tool for that size/price. I've also been really enjoying the Gerber Dime when I want something even a bit more compact. Obviously the Gerber Dime isn't going to be able to do everything those larger tools can do but it does a decent amount for the size and it's not crazy expensive.
100%. Find the best tools that work for you!!!
I'm with you. A tiny wave would be wonderful.
You are correct, the SOG Power Pint fills a niche that Leatherman dropped the ball on. Also it comes in at a great price point compared to the Leatherman.
I think the Roxon Flex is the future with its modular design. These other manufacturers will follow.
I wonder. I’m hoping that’s the case.
haha the leatherman without pliers is so weird! for me a multitool with pliers means a leatherman, without pliers means a victorinox
I lost my OHT a year ago because of the garbage Velcro sheath it came with, and I was heartbroken when I couldn't get my hands on another. What a completely underappreciated design. I splurged on the Arc, and I hadn't realized how much I came to rely on the spring loaded pliers. Worth the $230 for the blade I rarely have to sharpen, and when you factor in the price of the bit set alone it softens the blow some.
I originally only carried a leatherman. However I accidentally had it in my briefcase when traveling for business and TSA confiscated it as I did not have time to check my bag. I replaced it with a Gerber Suspension and while it does not have single hand opening, it is reliable, functional and won’t die in over a decade of use.
If I carry my sling I bring my Gerber, but my EDC knife is a mini samurai. I have the OLight mini on my keychain thanks to you (which has gotten a lot of use and praise by others for its size and usefulness) but don’t really need a multi tool at home or when I have my car because I have a real tool kit. So the Gerber or Leatherman is used only on walks, when commuting via mass transit or camping.
Sorry to hear TSA snagged your Leatherman. It’s happened to me and it’s the worst feeling just handing it over. Glad you’re enjoying Gerber. And the Olight Mini -> such an epic mini light. Thanks for watching!!
Given that Gerber has been our a little over a year, it seems somewhat premature to claim it won't die in over a decade of use.
When I think of “leatherman” I’ll always picture the “bond” or the older originals. The one handed opening of the Wave feels like a modern improvement on the original. Even if the Wave is actually quite old now. With that being said, these folks haven’t convinced me to expand from or replace my Wave since I purchased it in 2014. The only other leatherman I own is the squirt which lives in a bike bag.
Thank You for going through the different leather-man tools! Great video and perspective!
I have been carrying the skeletool for years! It’s the perfect 7 tools!
-Nate (Ohio 💪🇺🇸)
Right on 👍🏻
Got WAVE and skeletool. The 2nd is a kind of disapointment. Thought it will be great EDC but it is still to heavy. Acctually my EDC is Victorinox Compact and it is awesome!. For those who are not sure which Leatherman to buy- You cannnot go wrong with WAVE. One of the best purchase I made
My most beloved is Juice CS4. Everything larger is bulky. But nowdays I carry Knipex 125mm, and some neck knife (Spydero ARK for example). I carried Charge Al, and time to time I use Squirt PS4, some time ago too.Last month I discovered small multitool branded Nextool (Sailor or something like that) for 20 bucks, awesome little multitool for everyday office survival.
Sounds like you’ve got your EDC locked it. 👍🏻
What holds me back is the bits they go for the flat design forcing you to buy then from leathermen as opposed to other knife bit holders where I can use any 1/4" bit from any set and it's quick without the ratcheting accessory
Totally agree I been thinking on getting a mulitool and I have probably 200 1/4" bits and can't use them with any leather doesn't make sense
I had the Juice S2 as a teenager and it's still my favorite leatherman. I was gutted when I broke the pliers and couldn't get it replaced.
All are great multitools. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you like them!
I have the skeletool cx and I’ve been wanting to upgrade many times. But the skeletool might not have much tools but the tools it does have I use WAY more regularly than all the other multitools carry.
Love the video quality and explanations/comparisons. Great job! New Subscriber!
Welcome aboard!
Great analysis! I carry a Wave+. Only the insane price tag keeps me from trying the ARC. I bought a T2 to try out for $20 when Lowe's clearanced them out. I'm really glad that's all I paid; it's mainly used for opening the mail.
My boss praises the Leatherman Juice line. I agree: it's a real hole in their lineup. I use a Leatherman Bolster or Micra when I need to "go light".
The Arc is next level. Just feels quality. But considering you can buy 2 x Wave+ for the money it’s hard to recommend. I love mine but my wife and kids know getting me the newest Leatherman for Christmas each year is a safe bet 😂
I have a normal leatherman Wave that I take with me when I know that I might need to fix something and love having as a “mini tool box“ in my room. As for a daily, I once thought about replacing / supplementing my edc Victorinox pioneer x with a leatherman squirt ps4…
Right on. 👍🏻
No Signal, the swaggiest looking of the leathermans? Plus the hammer is so useful, I use it constantly from breaking up chunks of ice to flushing nails down
The signal was a notable omission. It’s probably 5th on my list.
Another contended to that Sog you mentioned is the Nextool 10 in 1. Really excellent large scissors. $25 or so.
Great video! I also miss the juice series!! I think Leatherman should come out with a PowerPint sized tool with the build of the Free P4!
I loved every bit! So I used to years ago carry a Wave+ which I lost when I moved to another state, then I got a Skeletool RX which was the main carry for about 1.5 years until I waited and bought the ARC, in my opinion it is a great multi-tool, and was my favorite. I got it back in December 23 and up until about 2 months ago I used the pliers one time, and they stiffened up so bad I couldn't believe it. Reddit recommended the "Take each handle and pull apart some to unstiffen, then put some drops of liquid metal polishing compound into the pivot, once worked in wash it off" and this did nothing, I've been procrastinating the fact that I have to send the tool for warranty. So what's my current every day carry since this atrocity? My lovely mother heard how back when Garage #005 came out I tried but failed to acquire one, and she decided to gift me one. She swears she didn't pay that much more for it, and I couldn't say no to her. So yea, personally love the spring loaded pliers but I very much miss the stronger flat head, and more robust awl.
Oh boy! I'm excited
Thanks buddy. I’ve been seeing a lot of the Roxon Flex content you’ve been pushing out. It’s on my list for sure.
Aaaaah so this was the video you were hinting at last week to me!
I personally love the Rebar and Supertool 300 (which is like a larger version of the Rebar.)
They don't have a few accessibility of the other ones. But it's just reliable.
Twas. Hope you enjoyed it.
@@MarcusCreates It sure is a good rundown of their most popular models!
First I whould like to say I really enjoy your videos, I've had the letharman wave+ for a number of years and really like it I think it the best well-equipped multitool, it's on my belt every day, and I also have the sog powerpint in my edc pouch and like the small form factor, if they figure out how to make a better looking mechanism so it can be used one handed I would be best small multitool.
Thanks for the positivity and sharing your carry. The Wave+ is a staple of any EDC carry. Glad you’re enjoying the PowerPint too. It’s cheap feeling but fills a need.
The Skeletool would be good for an Ultralight backpacker (I only say that because I am one and use one).
I use the Signal with the bits that came with the Arc for Bushcrafting/Camping.
I use a Gerber Dual Power for Urban/get home/in the glove box.
I use a Leatherman Arc with an adapter with full size bits for daily carry. I also have a ferro rod and my Prometheus Alpha flashlight in the belt case the Arc came with.
I carry my Wave+ every single day at work and I love it. I have a Squirt and a Micra for light everyday carry and I love them too. I use the scissors for the Micra far more than I thought I would. I own a Wingman, a T4, and Skeletool as well and they’re useful and I like them but they aren’t in the same ball park as the Wave+. The Arc is intriguing but I can’t see it replacing my Wave+…..yet.
Skeletool is great, clip to pants and always on hand when fishing. Cuts line and removes hooks
Perfect for that use case indeed. Glad you like it.
I’d recommend that while using the drivers on a Leatherman with the small tools on the interior, orientate the plier head into the handle opposite the driver whether you’re using it inline or as a t-handle it’s much more comfortable and ergonomic.
Thanks for the heads up. Using the screwdriver can be super frustrating at times 👍🏻
Thanks for showing- I havent sprung for any of the new leathermans and Im a little dissapointed in them lately. I have and old leatherman Charge ( still works well and has been used for years, but sits i my garage because of weight) I have an old leatherman micra ( one that is old enough to have good sissors) I also have a leatherman Wingman ( a tool everybody hates but I have found quite useful because of the spring loaded pliers)
I’ve yet to find an EDC multitool (with pliers) better than the old Leatherman Juice lineup. I even bought them for my groomsmen. For as much as I love Leatherman, my current multitool of choice is the Victorinox Spirit X, particularly for its toolset when camping.
Not a complaint or criticism but what are your thoughts on the Leatherman sidekick? I went with a sidekick because I wanted a Leatherman but I wanted something that was in the medium price bracket I don't want to pay $120 for the wave plus and I don't really do the kind of work that would really need that size multi-tool.
I think it’s a good basic multi tool. For about $70 it’s pretty great. But I do recommend to folks to go the extra yards for the Wave. I get it, it’s expensive, but it has last for the rest of your life vibes (as long as you don’t lose it 🤦♂️
Marcus, completely random, what brand of glasses are you wearing? I quite like those frames, both the shape and style.
Leatherman definitely needs to bring back more mid-size. The problem with the SOG PowerPint is all those cutouts/opening holes. It inherently weakens the tools and make them more prone to snapping. Which can happen on a small tool that might be hard for some folks to hold, and so they over grip it.
Makes sense. Come on Leatherman.
Original PST. 1983. I have been using Leatherman since 1985.
Probably the best small multitool was the juice s2. A good basic compact toolset.
cool dude from the home country - you can be my neighbour anytime. nice viewpoint on these things.
My favorite is the Charge TTI. I’m testing a Daicamping Titanium from Aloxexpress. Around $50. So far, I’m super impressed. The scissors are way better than the Leatherman. And it used standard quarter inch bits. I’m sure the blade steel is lessor. But so far, it’s really solid.
I used to recommend the Gerber Gear Suspension as a first multitool. It’s not a Leatherman’s level of quality but at $34 it’s a great starter tool. But I’m now going to recommend the Daicamping DL7. It simply cannot be beat at less than $50.
I use a Rev, not the best Leatherman, but it’s compact enough to be a comfortable daily carry.
Good comparison.
What about Swiss Tech 37 in 1 available on aliexpress?
Hey Marcus, love your content - been meaning to subscribe for a while - just hit the button 😉
Worth mentioning I’m in the market for a Leatherman as we speak - so your video was perfect timing for me!
Thanks buddy. Much appreciated. And thanks for all the positivity!
Oh great. Get the Wave+. Best value for buck in my view
@@MarcusCreates thanks for the tip - I’m a Victornox fan (I know you are too) - thoughts on the wave vs the spirit x?
I just got the powerpint for 39 on amazon its 43 now
Gerber Dime, when I could have all I need in a pinch, all on a keychain.
If the Arc was $50 less I would have jumped on it... but even at $230 getting a Magnacut blade the price makes sense.
If only there were a mini roxon flex. I think that Sog could cash in on the powerpint even more if they improved the scissors and gave us a better blade steel or ditched the blades entirely for a No.11 xacto holder.
Love the idea of an xacto holder on the PowerPint. TSA friendly. Would be epic.
Skeletool CX FWT🎉
Had to look up FWT on urban dictionary. I’m old. 😂. Agree with the sentiment. 👍🏻
Missed out letterman micra instead of pliers it comes with a nice scissor
I’ve got a Micra. That was my first Leatherman back in 1999.
Hey Marcus, you've got some really nice tools and good reasons for favoring them.
I've always wanted a Skeletool and an ES4 to supplement my Wave & Surge 👍
There's rumors that Leatherman have just deleted the P2 and P4, have you heard anything ?
I haven’t heard anything but the Arc is so much better than the P2/P4 in my opinion. The question is, is there a market for $250 pocket tools these days? I mean, the Wave+ does everything the Arc does to be honest. But the Arc feels so lush in the hand.
@@MarcusCreates I'm in Australia so the prices here are mental 💰🫤
I just bought a Bibury Wave clone with socket kit for my brothers birthday, it was AU$30 inc shipping from China.
The Wave + here is AU$230 and the Arc is AU$495...+$15 shipping
@@edwardfletcher7790 holy moly!!!
Arc
Skeletool CX
Rebar
Wave +
Charge +
I think that the bond, is underrated and is a fantastic multitool, but the tools, cant be locked 😢
Victorinox Hunter x with a hanging pocket clip.
Sounds like you know what you like 😊
What Watch are you wearing?
You have a keen eye. I made it myself. Video coming soon.
You made it? Oh I'm very excited👌🏻😉
No one is talking about the Charge+?
These are great products. But since 911 you cannot carry anything on a plane, which in an emergency you have nothing you extract people with. As an EMT we should have clearance.
I dont see the love for the power pint i returned mine the tools are weak and odd . Leatherman xe6 is clowning the power pint
Surge.
You should try ROXON S803E Elite Flash. Awesome tool. A bit big but very convenient to use. I used it when I had to fix some electric appliances, worked like a charm...
