- The Moza R5 is the wheelbase we thought we were getting from Logitech. It appears that there's a good reason why people are so hyped about this bundle. You get a 5Nm wheelbase, 280mm steering wheel with 24 buttons, desk clamp AND 2 pedal set for only $600 USD. I firmly believe that this is THE upgrade for logitech G923 owners.

I feel lucky to have the r5 as my first dd wheel. MOZA really came through for the sim enthusiasts on a budget. I was worried that it would be too weak. But after using it I honestly wouldn’t want anything stronger clamped yo my desk.

Great first impression. Really like that you kept bringing the expectations back to this being an entry level direct drive while comparing it to the Logitech G series that most people eyeing this package would be coming from.
I’m coming from a G29 myself, so your info here is really helpful in the decision making. I’m looking to upgrade to DD down the road, but without breaking the bank in doing so. I hope in the near future they sell the R5 as a stand-alone rather than with the pedal set.
Yeah there's no point in me telling people that this isn't as good as a 10nm steering wheel base :p From a detail point of view it's 90%+ as good. With the great software and other little nice features, this is a winner. Just a shame there's no load cell mod (that I know of) for it yet.
@@LaurenceDusoswa I just ordered mine and sadly, still no LC mod. I did get the break kit so we will see about that. Good review.
This seems pretty impressive - a compact package with all the good stuff you might want when upgrading from low end wheels or even as an entry to the hobby. I really like the clamps, they seem simple and sturdy and it's great they include those, very desk friendly from the get-go without need for drilling and getting bolts and custom solutions.
The base seems nice, the rim seems nice as well. I've heard force feedback can get a bit sluggish to react on time on those lower power dd wheels due to rim size and weight, so that might be worth checking and keeping in mind for the review.
The pedals don't seem like the main focus of the bundle, they do look pretty adjustable though and with hall sensors they'll definitely last a while.
Definitely grabs interest though, looking forward to the review.
Excellent comment as always. Yeah a good elastomer/spring stack does change the feel significantly so I just need to play around with the $29 brake kit they sent me. Thanks again for taking the time for such a detailed comment.
It's insane that Moza, being cheaper than Fanatec, has a way better quick release! Fanatec has to definitely step up their game right now. I mean; how long has it been since they announced their new and improved quick release system??
I just wonder if that little damper, included with the clutch, is something to upgrade the brake-feel, bringing it closer to a loadcell.

Yep I have used it and it does make the brake a LOT more usable. It’s a real shame about the fanatec QR2
The Fanatec QR was the main reason why I moved away from Fanatec completely. I had a CSL Elite Wheelbase and a Porsche 918 wheel, but the QR was just awful. Damn, I loved that Porsche wheel though!
@@Polymer Well, it's also a reason why I'm starting to look at other brands. I had to return my CSL DD for the second time in a year. That old P1 wheel, with the metal tightening collar, has ripped the thread from the shaft again.
Just ordered my r5 last week and just waiting for it to hit my doorstep. Coming from a modified inverted pedal setup on my g29 with resistance in the pedals, the srp lite pedal kit has me concerned on the "real feel" resistance you kept mentioning. I was hoping towards the end of the video you gave that brake upgrade kit they offer a try to see if its worth buying. All in all, fantastic unboxing/review though!
The brake mod is better than default. look up the 'tennis ball' mod too.
Just ordered mine.. waited over a year, and i think i made the right choice, got the performance kit as well. thrustmasters t818 was €200 too expensive for my liking..they even sell clamps for an extra €50. i am so glad third party retailers are selling moza bases without the insane added shipping costs. i paid €10 instead of €170 or whatever the original shipping was. total cost ended being "only" €650 shipping and tax included. i am mostly into rallying so i really don't need more than 5nm. i'd still like to see logitech and TM make a 5nm wheel base though.

Hey, thanks for the video. I was wondering if you managed to improve your viewing angles of the cm dash with the es wheel? I want to buy the dash but worried about the viewing angles, is it possible to see it clearing while using the es wheel?
Not with the standard mount. If you’re using the $39 ES formula wheel mod, it all works fine :)

MOZA Racing did a great thing with this R5 bundle, but I do wonder if they shouldn't have just not bothered with the SRP Lite pedal set, and just kept the SR-P pedals (with load cell) as their lowest cost option.
If they'd have forgone the SRP Lite set, they could have saved by not having extra product development and manufacturing costs. In the end, for them, it is likely a wash as far as actual costs are concerned: SRP Lite vs. SR-P pedal set.
The lite set cheapens the experience slightly, IMO.
Although I haven’t used the SR-P pedals, I think you are correct. This is a great comment and aligns with my thoughts. Thanks for taking the time to help to inform others about your experience!
They have the brake kit for it now, but the brake pedal is a massive weak point, I've already swapped out the pedals. The wheel base and wheel are amazing though. I'm so glad I got this over the Fanatec DD 5nm bundle.
nice review dude - after taking 2 years off sim racing Im looking to upgrade from my T150 and this bundle seems perfect (aprt from the brake pedal) - I can get the bundle from local retailer but will have to order brake mod from Moza so will be stung by the shipping BUT it is an essential

If anyone has the money get the 11 nm Logitech G pro it's just something else !
I really liked it. I definitely feel that there’s a gap in the consumer market that they could be filling with a 6-7nm unit
@@LaurenceDusoswa When my Logtech G pro is @6 or 7 nm it doesn't feel much different from my T-GTII tbh .I find 9.1 nm ffb and 6.1 nm Trueforce is my sweet spot
Hey this model is concurrent of csl dd 5hm right? So technically they are the same...
So fanatec has an option of boosting power up to 8hm by connecting more powerful supply right?
I have looked out and saw that the ports are the same, so the sistem should be the same.
Your thoughts?
It’s a completely different motor as far as I’m aware. I am not going to try a different power supply :)
@@LaurenceDusoswa according to tech support, photos , sizes and max torque,they are exact the same, yhe only difference is is wire winding of servo motors.

How do you like Moza5 in comparison with Cammus bundle?
The cammus has a lot more power and the wheel rim is a bit nicer. The buttons on the cammus wheelbase are also awesome. But the r5 is super compact by comparison. I have more faith in the moza quality control and software too.
If I had both in front of me and could only choose one, it would have to be the cammus but it would be a risk, based on my experience.

That would be a decision point for me.

Buy the one you can afford. The 280mm on the r5 doesn’t feel much less ffb than the 330mm on the r9. The CS and RS wheels are very heavy. I would go for the r9 with the CS wheel but I wish the CS was lighter.

My point is, even if there is a Powerful base 20hm 25hm, or 9hm, you cannot use it on maximum level, and the everything higher than 10hm can't be used even on 50% ..
So what is the point than??
If you use R5 on maximum level in all aspects, won't it feel a same as more powerful ones on 60-70% , or those insane 20-30hm wheel on 30%???
Some say that clipping, the feedback of the road won't be the same, and in some cases it won't even work because of weakness and lower sensetive.
Can you tell me sir is it so big differences between R5 and R9?
I just don't wanna be that guy ,who is buying 1000$ headphones, and the half of his feeling quality, based more on self-hypnosis...

Shame non of the reviewers actually use the table clamp, they all mount it on a rig. I don't own a rig, and the long bolts make me wonder how I would fit under it once mounted on my office desk... I have a G29 now and have to lower my office chair even to slide under...
I thought I answered that question but maybe not clear enough here. I will make sure to mention it clearly in my full review. This clamp is quite large so if you have issues with the g29 you will definitely have issues with this one :(

I looked up a few reviews and they all say "oh, this is a good replacement for a G29, now let's mount it on my rig to compare it to my 10.000 euro equipment"... Fine to see how it competes with expensive stuff, but people coming from a G29 probably won't even have a rig. So nice to (even just a minute) try out how it would fit on a desk (since the desk clamp is included for that exact reason).

Yep I always try to see it though the eyes of the potential buyer. I love the entry level G wheels and I know what it’s like to try to justify upgrading from one. Stuff like table clamps are important. This is also a reason why I use the hardware in my real races during reviews. Your comments show that it is appreciated so I will make sure to focus more on this in my full review
