Had to Google a video for that.
Nice. Turns out I had a Scale Armor +1.
Just like you say, the items will give you some vague hints and sometimes the Gold cost doesnt really match said item.

I felt stuck with a wizard since it has ritual identify without needing to memorize like the cleric. I may end up doing what I did in baldurs gate though, just have a sorcerer with one level of spell slots dedicated to identify.

If you don't have a class with identify spell you may be able to purchase wands or services from a vendor to identify your items that appear to be magical. Definitely recommend in future runs to incorporate a cleric, wizard, sorcerer or other class that can learn the identify spell.

wish I saw this BEFORE selling my random 1000g necklaces etc
    FRICK
They need to fix this and provide text that makes it seem like you should spend time identifying

I believe detect magic may also reveal the need to identify an item, should make them glow.

@@papasean8908 Okay they added a "question mark" icon to items that are identifyable IF you cast detect magic, so that helps (could easily just do a border glow though, or add a QOL and just let you cast identify and EVERYTHING in inventory is identified , then multiple time spent x 10min per item
so if you have say 7 things that are magical, it takes 70 mins rest and identifies them all then just shows you each item that was identified
