In HW News this week, we start with a discussion about Linus Sebastian's recent reply to our commentary about Linus Tech Tips' issues with accuracy, data, corrections, ethics, and conflicts. We are baffled and disappointed by the hastily, angrily-written, and at times inaccurate statement posted.

I stopped watching Linus tech tips after I found this channel. Your vid last night was on point, Linus is from my home town but that doesn't excuse the BS he has been doing especially lately. Fame and money has for sure gone to his head. His response is very telling and is bad optics on his behalf. Good job keeping things straight Gamers Nexus... You know Linus takes major kick backs right?
I appreciate your integrity, transparency, and courage.
Hire some LTT employees pleaseee
Hi Linus, we all know you're here. This is when you make an apology video and offer to build them a PC and buy Steve a beer for wearing kid gloves
Linus' response is actually severely amplifying the severity of the issues here, not addressing them. It clearly shows the issue with LMG. I think he just annihilated years of earned reputation in the scene with a forum post.
"I don't know if I should apologize for not wanting to spend $500 to do my job properly"
- The owner of a multi-million dollar company that got so big he recently hired a new CEO
Looking at how he handled this debacle, hiring a new CEO could well be the best decision he could have made lol
He definitely has good people working for him, but I'm afraid he will always be "the biggest man in the room" and even if his staffs realise there are something he does wrong, they would be to afraid to speak up.
the funny part is that 500$ is pocket change for any company. Shit happens all the time. This is equivalent to when your fire alarm is broken your not gonna spend money fixing it lmao.
Welcome to “progressive” rich man. He says good thing in order to hide their greed with woke LGBT friendly thing
Honestly he should have lied and said that doing the tests again would cost them a few thousands, no one would have known if it was true or not and his argument would make more sense. The fact that Linus is unaware of how greedy and unprofessional he looks when complaining about a $500 business expense shows how disconnected he is from reality.
@@MarineRX179 There have been persistent rumors that Linus is a less than forgiving kind of boss in that he's not exactly diplomatic to people who fail to follow his orders the way he wants them followed.
You can actually see hints of this in some videos when he walks into a room where his employees are working and they all tend to "come to attention" the same way a drill sergeant will get the same kind of treatment in boot camp.
I wouldn't be surprised if nobody dared to speak up because of the "my way or the highway" attitude Linus constantly demonstrates in public, especially on the WAN show.
Of all the LTT idiocy my favorite was "Well I know the review we did was terrible but no one could expect my million-dollar company to spend 500 dollars to redo part of it"
LITERALLY
Not "million-dollar." Hundred-million-dollar.
*hundred-million-dollar
One tenth of a Billion.
And he starts off with $100 before realizing how fucking terrible that makes him sound so starts incrementing it. Lmao
And "we have no correct data but don't buy it because it's expensive" lol.
"Here at LTT we're very sorry for our mistakes. But do you know who isn't sorry? Our sponsor for this video"
Lol is that really what it said?
Lmao
@@Drewdey actually something close to that. they plugged their merch (twice i think) and tried to make a big joke about the whole situation. pretty skummy if you ask me.
If I could summarise LTT channel up in one quote it would probably fit something like that. Linus is unbelievably shameless.
@@XX-121 - lol. I wouldn't be surprised if LTT merch water bottles contained BPAs and PFASs. Have you gotten your minimum daily allowance of forever chemicals yet today?
Linus giving off "I didn't punch you, I hit you" vibes.
More like I didn’t hit you, I was swinging my arms around and you kept getting in my way. It’s not fair that I’m being picked on
More like "sorry, I don't think I can apologize for that"
More like LTT saying something more relevant for him, "I wasn't licking, you were swinging your scrotum too close to my tongue" vibes.
"He cries outnin pain as he strikes you" .. pretty typical for his people
@@retromodernart4426whaaat?? Eww
The GPU block wasn't for the average consumer, it was for the average custom water cooling enthusiast. He treated that community like a joke.
Yeah, it's like saying nobody should buy a truck with big tires and a locking differential. Like, okay, it's pretty niche, but you can't just pretend like a Honda CR-V does the same thing.
Actually the claim he made which was cut down in this video ironically enough, is that it serves no purpose as it has no compatibility with neither case nor radiator, meaning it has no use as of right now for anyone, unless someone is willing to create a use themselves, which is a valid argument. Especially when there are plenty of competitors around with actually useable blocks.
Now if that is true or not I'll leave you to decide, but if he's right about the compatibility that does mean he has a massive point, which is ignored by steve.
And just to head of all the bias this and that bs, they still fucked the company over by selling a prototype...
Using their example, LTT took a supercar off road then said they'd never buy it because its too expensive and isn't even fast. Then they auctioned it off.
Cope. With an audience of 10M+, who has time to cater to every little vocal minority LMAOOO
@@user-cd7jj5dv9o Yea whatever you say bot account that'll be gone in 24 hours "LMAOOO"
Linus has said many times that companies should be judged by their responses to criticism. Well, now we have a very good example of LTT’s response
Edit: This morning’s (16/08) video is what I expected to see as a response. The follow through is important though, and we need to do our part to hold them accountable for straying from the framework they laid out today.
Nah that's different... Linus can do what he wants because he's Linus
We have many, or did you forget warrantygate?
That some word end up biting him. oof...
Boom!
responsability for them, not for me
They auctioned off a startup's prototype monoblock a month after promising to send it back, then callously said "The good news, is that it isn't just sitting on a shelf."??? My jaw just hit the floor. Holy crap...
Dude I had to read it 3 times until I believed my eyes. Who do you think wrote this? Adam?
it only gets worse when you hear there could have been a competitor to that start up at that auction. conspiracy nuts might take that as a way to say they planned to "auction" it to a competitor.
I used to work for a guy like that. You have no idea how many companies are basically just being run by man children who have no idea how to behave in a professional setting or take responsibility
@@luxinvictus9018 For a long time, due to WW2 rebuilding the US had no competitor on the world stage. So men children run the shit. Now China shows up with its state run companies that have CEOs appointed by merit, not because daddy had money to open them business.
China is killing with its state run companies rn with capable leadership in charge. Sorry but this trend of incompetent people being in charge because daddy has money has to die out. Sadly we wont see it in out lifetimes but the process has begun.
That's insane, RIP that startup.
Linus is concerned that @GamersNexus didn't reach out and allow him to comment before releasing a video. Still, at the same time, Linus or even anybody from LMG didn't reach out to Billet Labs to allow them to comment before Linus stated for his 15M+ subscribers that nobody should be buying their water block. I haven't relied on LMG for product reviews in a while but after this, it will be a challenge for them to get me to watch their reviews again. I hope they can make things right, but I have doubts.
This is the biggest Narcissistic Ego-Trip red flag really, the rules for thee but not for me mentality. There have been little hints of it in the past, I remember seeing him complain that a company didn't go above and beyond their policies to make him happy, just oozing entitlement.
Linus is an idiot that sounds like SpongeBob.
it blows my mind that they didn't even use BL's cooler with THE RIGHT CARD
@@duhass Linus cares about consistent revenue. That comes from people watching his videos.. That requires regular posting of new videos. The self-imposed production schedule is to meet the revenue requirements for the business. It is primarily a money making operation. The benefit to the customer is secondary. This business model only succeeds with deception or monopoly.

Wow to have TechSource respond to this says a lot.

He didn't have one to use, but he had his finger ready to select same day shipping on Amazon! The ukulele temptation was real
** im on the toxic auction train, buying my way, to tech world domination **
"I don't know if I can apologize" is the most honest thing Linus has ever said lol
Linus is showing what he thinks is the most important part of the company... Linus.
Just. Fucking. Admit. You. Were. Wrong.
So so so many people are so up their own asses with inflated egos they stop behaving like a person and start seeing themselves as above reproach. It's the trump approach to life and that is not something to aspire to.
@@darkpyrolord1808 he's a nutty narcissist.

It's a minor mental disorder quite a large number of population struggles with, because everyone knows a person like that.
@@Cypeq I would argue that narcissism, is not "minor", even if it's becoming normalized in today's society.
The prototype situation is so insane. If my only prototype was auctioned off for charity, I don’t know how I would recover, not only financially and professionally, but MENTALLY too.
Imagine putting your life’s work, something you spend who knows how many years on, trusting someone to try it and respecting their opinion, for them to spit in your face and shit in your shoes by not even trying doing a decent review AND THEN sending off a prototype that DID NOT belong to them to a possible competitor!!!
I wonder if they will get sued over the prototype sell off! Hope the company that owned the cooler got a patent for it before linus sold it. I did not know truly what had happened until this week, they could get sued and shut down over this.
@@jessepittman7113 They almost certainly did if they knew what they were doing. Any kind of publication of the invention, whether that is a social media post, or a feature in a magazine or lecture, would make it unpatentable because it wouldn't be a "new" invention at that point, as it's already out in the public. So if they were well informed, and most likely they were, they would have filed for patents even before sending it to LTT
That is not how patents work 😂
Yes you can't patent common know things, but of course you can patent a product that has been unveiled to the public without a patent. That's literally the job of some people in society. Scummy people, but still
And then sniffing up Notcua's rearend on their trash coolers

As shitty as the whole LTT situation is, it's very satisfying to see Steve get angrier and angrier as he chews them out. It shows that there are people out there who are still passionate about this field, and still have a moral compass.
I know it's not his nature, as he is a calm and methodical fellow, but I kinda want to see him unleash on Linus in a personal way. He keeps trying to reach Linus on a purely detached analytical level and Linus and his fanboys respond with pure emo-angst-gaslighting emotional garbage. This whole shitstorm started because Linus' douchebag henchmen were reciting a little script for guests to their new lab talking shit about their competitors. It's one thing to be a douche, it's another to be a SLANDEROUS douche.

Steve has caused more strife and division in the community than Linus ever could with a few bad charts. Steve found a nitch that works for him and he gets paid quite well for it. If Steve was really worried about the community he would have contacted Linus and asked for the video to be taken down and maybe an apology. I have never seen such division in the community as I have seen over the last few weeks in the CZcams comments.
@@jlp5137 u dumb or smtg??

He has done that every single time he has been called out, find me one time when he sincerely apologised without including a but in it
Even linuses first response(before major backlash) was deflecting and ignoring and victimising his team and himself
In the past too GM has called him out but he never actually fixed the issues
Linus needed a reality check and GM did perfectly
I was really afraid Linus sold off that prototype which would be scandalous, but man am I relieved to hear he just auctioned that prototype off for charity. My day has been saved.
Lmao
Yeah, they almost had a PR nightmare on their hands! I'm glad that was handled with a professional attitude too.
Don't forget that it was for charity, lol
Wat did it bring in auction? ... Yeah that's selling too
I love how he tries to brush it off by lying and saying Steve stated they "sold it" when the GN video clearly says "auctioned".
Linus: "My company is valued at $100 million."
Also Linus: "I can't afford to spend $500 to retest."

@@MrBlinkilit's a fucking PROTOTYPE. The retail cost will be much lower. Holy shit you astroturfing Linus fans have no shame.
Too expensive is up for the purchaser to decide.
A $800 cooler has no way of being good enough to justify the cost, which is exactly what linus was saying with the "20 degrees cooler"-line. Why i do like GN take on this, they do use video editing to make certain situations look worse than they are too.
If you can buy a $200 cooler which performs the same way as a $800-cooler except that the $800-cooler just looks better, it's justified to say "this is luxury nonsense for streamers that want their tower on display at all times". Not quite, usually corporate responses are passed through 40 lawyers first. Linus went on an unhinged reddit rant in public repping his 100 million dollar corp and all those people he claims to care about, his employees.
He entered the big leagues the moment he tried to emotionally manipulate his employees to not unionize and tried the same strategy to try to get out of making a warranty or the backpack. He's been using the same strategies as those companies, but people still see him as a single person and not the spokesperson of a 100+ employee company.

The crazy thing about the $800 waterblock is that if you really think about it, there could actually be actual people ready to buy it, why? because the active cooled backplate + GPU dual block is $500 from EKWB, and if you add a "same series" CPU block to that you are literally at $650 for the combo, so what would $150 more be to that person who's already ready to go the extra mile.

He needs to put his big boy pants on, sit down, and savor the slice of humble pie he was graciously fed if he wants this recent growth to actually mature. I'd be surprised if anyone is willing to trust him with their product after auctioning a startup's prototype. It's bad enough that he gave them no respect whatsoever and bashed them in front of millions of viewers. Auctioning their prototype to who knows who was some serious salt in the wound, and there's no way anyone in their right mind believes that was due to miscommunication. It's really unbelievable the audacity that took. I'm unsubscribing, especially after the way he responded in that letter, and I seriously doubt I'm alone. He doesn't deserve my time if the people paying him don't even deserve his.
So the Billet story goes from possible miscommunication to verifiable outright lying, from Linus himself. About the only way he could have made things look worse.
indeed, because he is the only person working in the company
and NOW billet has and absolute case to sue them.
Linus basically admitted that he was holding the smoking gun.
@@chrisberneckerLinus was the one lying in his comment. Or are you saying that somebody else on his team lied as well?
There was also the extreme dodgyness that it was a competitor looking at the block. I can't imagine how you'd even compensate on that
@@kukukachu and I hope they go foward with this. that lil guy needs to learn a lesson.
I'd like to see GN test the block just for shits and giggles. "THIS is how this block should have been tested. Here are the results."
And then it performs worse lol (jk i really feel for the billet labs guys. They would have been SOL without GN using his platform to call it out)
They'd have to find the prototype that was auctioned off.
I think that was the intent as they wanted it back to send out to others later on, if not to GN. Maybe JayzTwoCents.
"Oh wow, it actually reduced temps by 20°C. This is a must buy if you can already afford a 90-series card"

Fast forward two months from now, I'm sure Linus will double down and say that there was nothing wrong because that cooler was bad anyway and he was right all along. Not sending it back was meaningless because that company would fail anyway and he just helped them realize it quicker. Same with the mouse, he will say that it isn't smooth anyway even without the protection stickers and why should he apologize if he was right from the start?
Why have an union if I'm the boss and I decide to be good to my employees? Why have a warranty if you can trust me and warranties are all fake anyways?
Double down? At this point it's more like quadrupling down. He's already stubbornly insisted the product was bad despite him admitting he couldn't be bothered to test it properly like three previous times.
It _is_ his MO.
This literally happened in the latest WAN show. "Ultimately I was right about it"
I've been done with Linus since he pompously informed us all that using an ad-blocker is "stealing." It's clear that Linus has changed as a person over time. Great example of what money and success can do to some people...
I mean, in the end he is running a 120 employee company with very expensive setup cost and apparently situated in a pretty expensive part of their town, so he'll try and find ways to finance that. And in his mind, ads are the way to do it.
Linus once recommended a $3,000 dollar lawnmower that he couldn't even make work. Billet Lab's mistake was not paying for the review.
Don't forget about the recommendation for the very expensive mattress with ongoing subscription service.
@@teamtechworked8217specially when he repeatedly scorns companies with subscriptions
To be completely fair. Having something recommended doesn't mean "buy it now" with gun being pointed to your head.
But these definitely not a common consumer products that would be taken by masses. I guess such recommendation can be worth something for people that can afford to spend that much money?
Didn’t he try to sell 3$ screwdrivers for like 75$ ?
@@DimkaTsv How is that a "to be completely fair" statement? That's the point that's being made here. How is an $800 cooling solution ridiculous compared to some of the other excessively expensive stuff that no one with anywhere near an average income would buy that Linus has reviewed? So for him to say "it wasn't worth testing it properly because I would never recommend something so expensive" is a completely ridiculous statement. It's just an excuse for being lazy and cheap while refusing to do the due diligence on a product review.
This would be the perfect time for that new CEO to step in and actually do something.
He is likely an incompetent sociopath who ruins companies and keeps abandoning ship whilst adding new fancy chapters to his CV.
My bet is WAN. No Luke. Just Linus and Terran.

Linus dropped this response harder than any GPU he has held.
you need to stop.. and what gpu do you have
😂
Oof
The "we didn't sell we auctioned it" will be memed for ever
Well, that GPU WAS heavier than 10 boxes you may be moving...
If I was Billet Labs, I would be more concerned that the prototype block is no longer in trusted hands. It doesn't matter the cost, but the more important issue is that the intellectual property (design) is out in the open, and readily to be copied by potential competitors.
The worst part is that they probably can't even afford lawyers to make a case for themselves..
This right here, compensation for just the cost of the prototypes production doesn't cover the damage that's done when your prototype is in the wild.
TBH if I was Billet Labs I'd sue hard. Not only for bad testing but for what you said. Linus essentially stole the block and who knows if not to a competitor. He essentially buried a small company.
"The prototype is no longer in trusted hands"
Apparently it never was to begin with 🥲

Ego and greed.
then ppl would have cried that hes not addressing the problem....
Linus has never claimed to be a mature adult and I think once he’s over the initial shock of being called out he’ll come to terms with the issues. Or at least I hope so.
Fair point. He should have not let his emotions get the better of him, because no rational man would have responded like this. Or maybe he is finally blinded by the rise in fame. I just, really really hope this ends well. It would seriously suck to see him fall this bad, just because someone pointed his mistakes.
It's getting to the point where LTT won't be able to ignore or brush this off. If they're worries about their bottom line, they're definitely going to feel this.
That's the reason I'm not sure if Linus is infact that stupid to write such a bad take as a response to GN's video or if this is a method to literally make everyone baffled and stop talking about it. Like such 'super CEO' marketing method thing.
But most 'super CEOs' have forgotten that ppl don't forget. Ask BudLight .. xD

Because Stephen Burke has, aside from building this channel from the ground up & improved on it, actually has integrity & understands the material he reviews and helps viewers do the same, enabling many of them to make better decisions. Burke actually has a respectable amount of knowledge of the content he presents as well as the industry, & chooses to maintain an ethical channel which doesn't lack integrity, unlike some other reviewers out there.
