    Just to note about the camera issue: There's a spare USB on the motherboard you can plug any camera into it and it'll automatically work. Klipper has native support for cameras. Just an FYI if you're wanting to add a camera, you can add virtually any webcam and it'll work right out of the box. 👍

    Well done evaluation. I ordered an X-Max 3 in late May and should get it in a couple weeks. QIDI recently dropped the pre-order price to $999.00 with free shipping so, in my opinion, that makes it the best deal for a large volume corexy printer.
    QIDI did some major design changes to their new line after an initial stumble but had the courage to stop sales until several issues were resolved. The x-axis steel rods are precision hollow hardened steel, which is a lighter and more expensive alternative to solid steel rods (as the Creality K1 series have). This pretty much reduces belt stretching (it looks like, maybe 9mm belts?) due to rapid inertia changes with high-speed printing, as well as reducing vibration. In essence, they added more metal to their larger printers--heavy but better vibration dampening.

    Great video, short and on the point! I received my X-MAX 3 10 days ago and instantly put a USB webcam int the spare USB. Fluid instantly recognized the webcam. As you stated the print quality is excellent. I printed a lot of ABS and PC CF with excellent results. There are some smaller issues with the software that QIDI is working on. But thei are cosmetic and do not impact useability or print quality.

    Great review, thanks. I appreciate your practical insights into making functional parts, in particular. I am put off the Bambu products - despite their undeniably polished user experience - due to the inability to print without cloud, and prefer Qidi's fully open source software approach. I was about to order a Voron 2.4r2 kit - 300mm version - but this is fantastic value and will do everything I need for less money.

    I'm curious about firmware. If it is running klipper and has fluid access, are you able to change config file? Can you do things like add ABL/auto purge that only does probing to the size of the object instead of the whole bed? This is easy to do with stock klipper on any machine. Im hoping you can still manage macros and change config for things like this. Thanks!!

    thanks for this video, great first impression of the printer. I also ordered the X-Max 3 in May and hope to have it delivered soon. I print a lot of TPU (88A), I am particularly interested in the shore hardness of the tpu you use. Qidi only specifies a printable shore hardness of 95A, the one you use seems softer to me. I hope the extruder can handle my TPU too 😉

    So a heads up on carbon filtration, it definitely does a great job filtering, just not indefinitely. Meaning that the filter will get saturated and no longer absorb VOCs.
    In the industrial world, carbon beds are used for VOC abatement where the VOCs are adsorbed, and later on when the beds are saturated, "cooked" off with live steam, and the fumes from that are then incinerated. This ends up running the incinerator far less frequently, as well as using the VOCs themselves as part of the fuel source. Very efficient, and very dangerous and unforgiving.
    Not likely to see that anytime soon in the home market.
    Fun fact #1: this is the coordinates for the old carbon bed VOC system at the old Saturn plant: 35.740067, -86.960255 It's no longer in operation as the plant now has a new Paint shop. And it's big, really big. :)
    Fun fact #2: While the Qidi may be large, it will still (barely) fit on the build plate of my HevORT (595 x 595 x 600+). If I get ambitious I'll place my new Qidi when it gets here in my HevORT and get a video of it. :)

    There are some things I like, but no camera is not one of them, build volume is nice but I print things that fit my Bambu P1S just fine. Which I have had some issues with and I do worry about maintenance. The enclosed printer is great but you have to do more disassembly and access can be an issue. 1099.00 seems a bit high since the P1s is 699 and has a camera. In the end I am glad there is another choice. Also you didn't cover support for the device, like warranty?? if you had a problem is there a path to return or repair? That is an issue I had with my Bambu. I had issues, and they just send you tech notes and ask you to trouble shoot and repair your machine, and usually it is a assembly issue, which is not expected for a brand new device. Thanks for the info.

    I bought the Plus-3 and may buy the Max. for the size. The Qidi Printer has printed great right out of the box. By far one of the best printer we have bought to date. But we have had the firmware fail twice in the middle of two long 31 hr. prints and this is very problematic because we print battery boxes which take a long time. When they fail we can not recover or restart the print. Is this something others are seeing or is this a problem that just we are experiencing? • @kf4hqf2
      @kf4hqf2 Před 10 měsíci

      Keep in mind that linear velocity is only one aspect of overall print speed. Acceleration limits/defaults have a huge impact. I don't know the numbers off hand, but it's possible the default accels are higher on the Qidi? Also cornering speed is a separate setting in the Klipper firmware that could make a difference. Last but not least, it's rare for a profile to use the same velocity for all aspects of the model. Typically the number thrown around is only applied to the infill, but walls and skin are set to some percentage of that top speed. In many default profiles, the walls are as little as half the speed of infill. But these percentages can vary depending on how aggressive the manufacturer wants to be with their default profiles. So "200mm/s" doesn't give you a complete picture to make a comparison. Sorry for long post...

    i only saw bad reviews for those machines, like on stefans site (cnc kitchen) drucktipps3d . k1 is known for having a faulty extruder, compare to k1 max. first qidi revision was abysmal this one is bad. they wrote it's quality is ok but not reliable. parts are cheap and cause issues after a while. like jamming on many retracts.

      Haven’t had any jams, just have to get the extruder hot like 235c on changes

      Shteeefan is clearly long ago turnt out by Jozef "Stalin" Proooszha, so anything he says about printers (but not filament and parts) must be taken with that in mind.
