    Man you talk so calmly during an emergency! Listening to the audio only it feels like you guys are casually talking from your couch at home! Glad all was ok

      Ah thanks mate! Haha 😂 it wasn’t always like this…but the more we sail and undergo these experiences we have learnt that being calm in these situations is the only way to be able to get out of them with little to no issues! Thanks for watching! We really appreciate it! 🤩⛵️

    Dang, Amber and Dan , you are famous!! Wish we were out there, Sailing Zephyr could have done an episode comparing our older Bene 44 to their newer 43. Anyway, hope all of you guys ( and the dogs) have a great winter away from Canada, our turn will come next year!

    Hey guys. Yes it's been a while since I gave advice. Danforth anchors are useless for a vessel of your size. Put it in the forward cabin as an emergency anchor only. .(Infact in my opinion the Danford is useless for any vessel over 5 metres in length). The flukes don't always grab and don't have any weight to dig into the bottom, but in any event, think about it. Flukes cannot always grab and will bend.
    A plough anchor is solid and will dig in. Will not bend with side ways movement and will dig in the more you put pressure on it. Remember, the chain is what'[s holds you, not the anchor but it does help to have an anchor that actually works.

      @SailingZephyr  Před 3 měsíci

      Cheers for the great advice! All anchors work I think it just depends on the substrate you are in! Some are better than others depending on where u are anchoring! Our friends in boat next to us that held all night have a plough anchor! So you aren’t wrong! Thanks for watching and love receiving these types of comments!! ⛵️🤩

    Good episode y'all. Dragging anchor is the worst.

    You might leave more slack on the anchor chain and let the bridle take a lighter jerk without the chain giving a 13:16 second hard jerk to dislodge the anchor

      Cheers for that! Yeah you are right about that!

    PPS2 To be Fair, The Other Boatyard in the Harbour appears to have really good Craftsmen as well ? I was in a Team with a couple of them on Pub Quiz Nights in the In on Shipyard Park - Great Ownsrs and staff there as well. Great Chef too, his Mac and Cheese (which I didn't like before I went to the USA ) was todie for. Apparently Peter's Son, it was all he'd eat growing up, and he did well on it, as today, he's a robust Fireman in the Harbour. Can't wait to get back k to meet them all again tbh. ❤❤❤

    Must admit, I'm sticking with an oversized genuine Lewmar Delta Anchor on the end of All Chain. Sailing Teulu had theirs hold solid in over 50 knot Winds, and I an't believe they changed it for a different but Trendy Anchor. Sigh. Peter the Boatyard Owner told me they had Never had a problem with the Lewmar Delta Anchor, after my attempt to get a Rocna got seriously held up with delivery problems at the time, which meant if I continued with the order, I'd exceed the Visa period I had for the USA. Peter got the Lewmar Delta Swlivered the following morning for me. How did that Anchor work out for me ? Far better than I expected, and it seriously impressed me with how it performed at Anchor during a really vicious Tornado Storm - including how it Saved the boat by being Pushed out sideways, when the boat was on the brink of being Capsized and sinking, as the VHF aerial on the top of the Mast was deep under waterbon the Poer side. After resetting the Anchor in clear water behind all the other boats, it didn't budge despite Multiple Tornado hits during the rest of the night. So Guess which Anchor I'm sticking with as my Main Anchor (on the end of High quality triple Galvanised chain of course ) ? 🤔 Bob. PS Beware of Fake Delta Anchors made from Rubbish Steeel with no hardening or tempering. A Correctly made qith good steel, properly hardened and tempered, had a very distinctive Ring to it when Struck. You could tell that the one Sailing Teulu had was Soot On. 👍

    Wow James is so cool in that crazy situation. I know you guys have that fantastic mantis but is the chain ok? I got a boat last year and could not believe the length of chain or the weight of it but the anchor is not really heavy enough. Kind of the opposite to you guys. Maybe with James diving on it you could anchor the anchor for the next big blow. I’m sure you thinking about it all - the big debrief. Anyway love the show and the dogs of course. Must see TV. Every week

      Cheers Tom! What boat did you end up getting? We have 250 feet of chain so never been an issue not having enough apart from when we were in Italy ( all the anchorages so deep there) hope to see you out in the water soon! Possibly anchored next to us!

      I have a Beneteau Oceanis 40.1 from 2002. It’s on the hard right now getting the keel sand blasted. I remote boat which is good fun -a 36 Alan Wright Nerrissa a twin keel. Permanently on a swim mooring on Waiheke Island. That’s great to visit. Sailing in the Hauraki Gulf is much better than here in Wellington. Although I take the Beneteau over to the Marlborough Sounds that is next level. You’d love it!

    PS. For Clarification - my only connection with Lrewmar is as a very Satisfied Customer, who paid the going price for the Lewmar Delta Anchor from one of their Boatyard Owning Agents. Bob. 👍🌟🌟🌟❤️

    PPS. thatBoatyard - Triad Boatworks of Mattapoisett MA, is the Only Boatyard that I Trust to properly apply CopperCost Antifouling for me- Unfortunately I didn't have the Visa time left for them to do it, so they did a first class job of applying Pettit Trinidad Pro Hard antifouling for me. All other work they did for me was first class, including sorting a vehicle to collect the boat from the seller, and deliver it to their Yard. My Next Sailboat, I intent to have them inspect and service annually during their Quiet Summer period, and be set to head to the Caribbean from around October every year. Launching should fit in nicely when other boats are being pulled out for the Winter. Bob. 👍🌟🌟🌟❤️
