It is a competition for young classical musicians but Dimash is a judge not competing. Maestro Placido Domingo is the head judge on the panel and asked Dimash to perform this duet with him having learned about Dimash through his grandson showing him a CZcams video.
The Virtuosos is shown on TV across 5 European countries and also uploaded to CZcams for the international audience.

A dream came true for Dimash. This duet is so beautiful, it's not like an opera it is an opera. Maestro Domingo is now 83 years old. 53 years older than Dimash and he has an amazing voice still. Maestro Placido Domingo is a legendary opera singer/conductor/teacher. I saw him at the Metropolitan Opera house in NYC many years ago. Virtuosos is a competition show and Dimash was invited by Placido to join them as a jury member. From very young to mid twenties, compete in various instruments from different countries around Hungary. It's to help promote classical music in the younger generation.

Placido Domingo, born Jan. 21, 1941 and Dimash, born May 24, 1994 singing this classic duet on December 10, 2023. So there's 53 years between them, let that sink in for a moment. Placido's voice is still wonderful at age 82 in this clip.

Thank you for reacting to the duet of Dimash and the legendary Placido Domingo! Placido Domingo is considered a legend in the opera world. He was one of The Three Tenors (Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, and Jose Carreras). They were super-popular around the world! I am glad Dimash is introducing so many people to other artists and genres!
Here, Placido Domingo and Dimash are part of the jury for the program called Virtuosos. It’s a competition for young musicians (classically trained). The children are marvelous there, beyond my expectations! This duet was a surprise. Placido asked Dimash to perform a duet with him.

He not only is singing with THE Placido Domingo, one of the greatest operatic tenors to ever grace a stage, he’s actually singing the LEAD in this duet. That would totally mess with my head-it would feel so weird and even kind of wrong. Anyway, I think Dimash is actually one of the judges in this competition.
    Great reaction at any rate.

Yes, he can sing opera, too. He is trained in classical singing. He turned down an offer from the Astana Opera House because he didn't just want to sing opera. Luckily for all of us. Although I do really love when he sings that. I love his deeper tones.
It's a duet with Plácido Domingo from George Bizet's Opera "The Pearl Fishers". In the opera world he is a legend. He sang together with Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras. I don't know if you've ever heard of „The Three Tenors“. A few days ago Plácido Domingo's had his 83rd birthday. He and Dimash were judges in a talent-show for young classical talents in Budapest, Hungary. And in this show one of his biggest dreams came true with this duet.

Yea, that doesn’t surprise me too much. I don’t know a single person personally who actively listens to opera. In fairness though, I listen to plenty of music where I don’t know the person performing names. Like I know the band name but none of the members

@ALovelyPenguin I don't know why I was surprised though, it's not any kind of insult so I hope you don't take it that way. I think it has more to do with age and exposure. When I was a kid the three tenors was a huge deal, and I certainly didn't grow up listening to opera.

But he and 2 other famous tenors did a series of concerts titled The 3 Tenors worldwide that were so popular that they drew bigger and bigger and ended up being televised as an event. Not knowing this fact about Placido Domingo means you can not fully appreciate what it meant to Dimash to sing a duet with this icon. I understand that reactors like to show their first time hearing a song but you can still do a Google of an unfamiliar name, or word in the song title. I think it may add to your experience and the viewers.

I fully respect that reactors don't want to sample a performance in advance but, OMG, please don't show your ignorance by failing to do a modicum of research if you don't know a performer, especially someone like Placido Domingo - known for decades in and outside the opera realm as a musical maestro. I don't know how reactors expect listeners if they can't establish any credibility. Glad you liked the duet, though.

Many of the reacters were only SMALL children (maybe infants) when Domigo and his friends were at the peak of their careers. I think you are being harsh. Most humans, including reacters, were never exposed to Opera when they were growing up. They never heard it, unless Bugs Bunny was making fun of it.

So you have known everything you have ever experienced? Literally never tried anything new in your life? A big part of reactors content is allowing the audience to vicariously have a first time experience with something that means so much to them. If I already know all about it, then it’s just another time hearing something I know. Which is just like you when you listen to this again. What’s the fun in that? I actually work hard not to get spoiled so that I can share my first time experiencing something, so you can relive that feeling. Stop watching reactions if that bothers you
      Thank for defending me!!

Wouldn't your experience be better if you researched and thus appreciated in advance the people to whom you were listening?? (In this case, Placido Domingo) I'm just saying that a little preparation goes a long way in establishing credibility. Why do I want to hear the reaction of someone who can't even be bothered to know whereof he speaks? Why would you hand over a job or a paper or a reaction w/o double checking the facts?? That's all. No harm. No foul.
