The starter will give you trouble soon. You could use a small sawmill. Also, investigate if there is enough head in the creek, so you could make some kind of hydropower. You need 5m.
NAPA still sells that pump you took off of there. I use 'em for gas on the Loadstars because you can't exactly get the mechanical for the 478 engine but I've also used them for diesel lift pumps and in one case water for a radiator mister on an old 2 stroke tour bus in the desert. They make about 4-7 psi, and come in 12V (Part #: DFP FE0539) and 24V (Part #: DFP FE0553). For some reason the system lists it as an in-tank pump (?). They've also got a 6V unit.
@corey Babcock Absolutely, as long as the carb float on the generator will close strong enough to stop the fuel flow. It would also work as a transfer pump if you still have the tank on the generator.

@@tomhutchings8970 it's not because covid it's because we cut waaayy faster than it grows and only small percentage of forest are well managed.
Equipment is indeed expensive but fixing the fuel pump and putting new injectors in it wil also cost you a heap of money +the only thing this loader can is pick things up with his forks bcs he has no bucket for it. So is it really worth fixing? I don't think so. If i where him i would sel the clarck and the allis loader, and buy me something a bit younger

My ex father in law has a coal hauler in Newport with a 4/53 Detroit. You can really hear that truck screaming up through the outskirts of town. I didn't properly understand when he explained the 2-stroke aspects of the engine back then, but I have a new appreciation for the engine type now. The poor people of Newport would hear ol' Jim tearing through the town at around 4am each day.
I think you use this loader a great deal and it has been useful. So worth some TLC!

Enjoy your videos. I'm retired now was an operator, mechanic, truck driver for jobs so relate to your content and remember many of the models of equipment you drag home. Just a few pieces of equipment around my 21:47 21:47 home place so I'm jealous of your collection. I think it's great and find humor in the fact you live so close to the Auction yard. Near where i used to work was an asphalt plant which was a beehive from April to Nov. One of the paving companies was running several IH and Jimmy ten wheel dump trucks from the 60s and 70s. Many trucks came and went but the ones that were 6 71 or 8v71 powered stood out. The ones without turbos were the very sound of Manhood. Drivers were typically wearing hearing protectors in the cabs. Its rare to hear any old Detroits today. Pity.
71 series were widely used in Coast Guard Service, '50's thru the '80s; 40 boats had twin 6-71's, 30 boats had singles, also generator power on a lot of vessels
I hope you’re planning on sending the injector pump out for a rebuild. That would complete the fuel system makeover. 👍
And the injectors, she's running very rough.
Greetings from No VT - That is a great suggestion along with the injector overhaul - will add decades to her life at the rate you are using her.
Was going to make the same suggestion, the pump will definitely be suboptimal by now! Rule of thumb on mechanically injected diesels is to recon the pump and injectors at the same time, as they comprise the fuel system and the pump handles as much fuel as the injectors!
If you're going to do that. How about removing the fuel tank and tumbling it out ?
No sense in feeding new components contaminated dirty fuel.
Also, he should really fix that exhaust, it looks to be about 50/50 out the top and out the front.

I like your enthusiasm and passion for hydraulic muscle. It's not easy to create interesting uplifting content, but you've carved out a niche and do good job of engaging and tickling the ribs of your audience. ✅✅
You should consider changing all the fuel lines. Old lines like that may feel stiff and hard but will collapse internally and over work your components. They can also send trash through the system from internal deterioration.

I have found hidden screens in the fuel fittings of 2 Hitachi excavators, both clogged, and also on an Evinrude Ficht outboard.
He could reduce pump priming issues by mounting the pump lower.

Nothing crazy.. just a skid steer with excavator attachment, stump bucket and regular bucket to start clearing some smaller trees and brush.. I’m in New Jersey

Probably a good idea to have the injection pump gone through when you do the injectors. Expensive, but usually worth it .

It's amazing how quick a repair is when you know what you are doing! Great little video, with valuable fault isolation tips for those just learning.
You may want to consider putting in an elbow or something to move that inline filter away from that metal box it is up against. Being that close to the fuel pump, it will be vibrating constantly. I don't think it will take long for that contact to wear a hole in it. Not a big deal and easy to fix when it happens, but might as well avoid the issue.

Hi Matt! My six-year-old grandson Lenny commented cooly: "There is nothin' Matt can not repair!" Your joyous shout "Yeah" after the engine started to run... was repeated the world over 41 Thousand times!!! Congrats from Germany!
It could also be a worn out injection pump. Governor springs could be worn out or stretched, or the governor fly weight pins could be warn. Injectors usually you will have lots of blue smoke, or it would be missing, or both. Seems to run pretty good. Just is hunting at idle. Which is why I think it’s injection pump governor.

I wish that they made truck engines and transmissions that would go through and last like this one has. You would buy the rig that you need, and drive it for the rest of "your" life. Just look at a foreign car or truck and its still running with a part from something else holding it together... simply amazing for all words of choice

As long as the cost isn't TOO much (varies with YOUR budget of course), then HELL YES it's worth repairing! It's a loader! LOL If I had the money and property, I'd have all kinds of HE gear.

Your personality comes out in every video, Matt. Love it. So Happy that you were able to get Fat Allis started again, and look forward to seeing you take her all apart this spring to do the injectors and rings and whatever else needs to be done to make her purr... She old, but sure appreciate seeing the older machines still being able to run and work, and not just thrown to the bone yard. What I have always loved about Andrew as well. New machinery is nice BUT the older stuff is better built in most cases, and if you can afford to get them to run with some repair attentions, they will last.
I love your channel and the repairs you do. I do a lot of the same kind of stuff on old machines myself. I'd love to know how you keep coming up with them. I'd like to offer 2 suggestions for starting a cold diesel engine in the winter. First, every owner's manual I've ever read says don't run the starter more than 30 seconds without giving it a minute or two to cool off. More important, an old truck mechanic friend of mine says the best way to get them running is by only cranking about 5 seconds and then resting for 5. He says when you run the starter continuously, it brings too much cold air into the engine. It also protects the starter. That's how I've done it ever since he told me and it's always worked. Hope this is useful.

We use those adapters on wide body aircraft, I believe that all or most mechanics carried the adapter in their pockets. We used nitrogen bottles for tire service. Stay safe and healthy y’all

06:10 I find a cordless heat gun to come in handy on many occasions such as this. I think Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Ryobi all make one and maybe a few other brands.
Matt, of all the things that can go wrong, a bad fuel pump that is located as easy as that one was, is probably the best problem you could have 😉😏
Nobody likes problems, but problems that are an easy fix are the best 👍👍

Good work on figuring out what the fuel delivery issue(s) were with the Fiat-Allis loader, Matt. She is a tired old girl but as you said, she comes in handy much of the time. to heat the line safer, boil water then sit line in the water. heavy oils would work also with less risk of flames.
I started watching you when you bought the church, as I am a pastor and found it interesting. But I keep watching because only you are the kind of guy who would take a torch to a fuel line. You see, I think one of these days the whole channel is going to explode and I don't want to miss it when it does!!!
