- Heya folks, today we take a first look preview of the Miltech Simulations CH47D. The aircraft is currently under development and what we see here is not a finished representation of the final release build. The developer is still working on features and still has some polish to apply. This aircraft will be releasing on Xbox and PC for 35.99. No release date has been announced just yet.
Thanks as always for watching. Don't forget, I live stream every Monday - Wednesday - Friday from 20:00z

The very purpose of a preview showcase is to accomplish two things. One, give folks some insight into the current development cycle and TWO, gives viewers the oppertunity to provide some feedback during the development phase.
This approach means that the aircraft remains in development - rather than releasing it straight away. Comparrions could be made to other developers who may release a product that is un finished - or doesnt meet the objectives of its own feature list.
With the items identified and kindly shared by the viewers - work will now commence on trying to implement these features/fix the issues where applicable. However, some items will remain in place due to licensing etc
I have listed items from the comments for you:
Rotors: No VFX, wrong rotation, direction
Rotors: Rotor grips should have a colour stripe (different colours)
Cockpit exterior: Doors should not open?
Cockpit panel: the wrong font is used (likely wont be fixed due to licensing of the font)
Cockpit view: Forward view is too low (maybe seating position)
Cockpit lighthing: additional lighting and shadows needed
Flight model/Ground handling: use of rudders for taxi should not be used?
Engines: From initial start to rotor spin needs to be delayed
Engines: On GND should not go 100% NR
Cargo Interior: Red textures - toned down a little/darken
Sounds: improvements on APU and startup
Kudos for allowing TwoToneMurphy to showcase an early look at this incredible project!
Its seriously exciting and cant wait for it to be released! Murph does a great job here in showing it off and giving us a little teaser!
And your engagement with the community is noteworthy and stands out from the pack.
Take my money now.
Looks very promising great work👍🏻
Looks promising for sure. I would add to the list that the rotor animation looks very jerky at times, textures look unfinished when the blades are spinning at full throttle setting.
@@danmorand3658 It is missing a VFX ("Rotor blur") ' hence why it looks like that. This has already been addressed during the beta.
Thanks for letting us see, really nice! the sound is so F'ing good!
As a former Chinook crewmember, I can say that this Miltech Simulations CH47D looks and sounds exactly like the real thing. I am looking forward to its release. The one thing that needs to be changed to make it more realistic is the pilot and copilot cabin doors. They are fixed to the airframe and do not open as shown in the video.
I fly these every single day, glad to see a digital version of my acft. Although im on the Fox model now. The startup sound is close, but the transmission noise is too quiet lol. I have a couple videos buried on my channel from a few missions you can reference. (also we call the collective, Thrust, control) When you set the helicopter down I ran through the abreviated landing checklist in my head, "flight controls neutral, LCTs in ground, ground contact lights on"
Just FYI - This is a beta build, and some known issues are being addressed:
- APU Sounds are being redone
- Other minor sound details are being corrected
- Rotor blur is being added
@@CurleeToes these are exactly the kind of details being tested, adjusted and improved during beta testing :)
Is there a confirmed price?

Spicy lil beast! Thanks for showing it to us!
Exciting! Cant wait!!! Been waiting for one of these for years
I'm glad the interior looks worn like that as far as the paint, very cool!
such an amazing addon coming, can't wait to do Australia Army operations around Brisbane with this thing, great video thanks for the insight!
Fabulous work to date! This iconic helicopter has been flying since the early 60’s and it will be in service for a few more decades! Looks like Miltech has a jump on the theme for MSFS2024 in regard to “missions based immersion”.
Great video, beautiful helicopter, thank you.
Absolutely amazing build Milsim community will love this, thank you miltech
Looks good fun and one that I will be picking up, thx for sharing
Well done!
Worth it just for the sound 😍
Your are pretty good at flying these, wow!
Looks great. I hope the screen has your basic GPS and navigational screens as well.
Seen many of the Chinooks when i was growing up here in N.Ire carrying army and police land rovers and also the odd gazelle helicopter
As someone who spent 6 years working on the CH47 in the military, I appreciate the effort put into this MSFS video of the CH47. However, there are several inaccuracies in this model D that I'd like to point out. Firstly, the rotor blades are not rotating correctly; the aft blades should turn counterclockwise, while the forward blades should turn clockwise. Additionally, the landing lights are not accurately depicted, and the fire extinguisher is incorrectly placed on the floor next to the door, rather than above the pilot's head. When the APU starts, the blades should not be turning, and the APU sounds are not accurately represented. The engine models also appear too small and delicate. While I understand this is the Delta version, I would have preferred to see an F model, which has become the standard replacement for the D models in the US Army's Chinook fleet. The F model of the CH47 Chinook does indeed feature a full glass cockpit, which is a significant upgrade from the older models. This modernization enhances pilot situational awareness and overall aircraft performance. It's a detail that would add to the authenticity and accuracy of the simulation if included in the MSFS model.
All these have been noted and are ongoing revisions. This was a Beta preview and by no means representative of the final release :)
Ps- rotors have never rotated with the APU on, must be a confusion with how the video was produced.
Regarding an F version, that one is a lot more complex and less freely available info is available. We may consider an expansion pack down the road subject to popularity and demand.
Thank you for the update, @miltechsimulations! It's great to hear that these issues are being addressed in ongoing revisions, and I understand that the video was a Beta preview. I appreciate the clarification regarding the rotors and the APU.
Regarding the possibility of an F version, I completely understand the complexities and challenges associated with obtaining information for such a model. If you do decide to create an expansion pack, it would be fantastic if the Kopp-Etchells effect could be included. This phenomenon, where the rotor blades emit a visible corona of light due to sand and dust, is a distinctive and visually striking aspect of helicopter operation in certain environments.
Looking forward to the final release and any future developments!
@@miltechsimulations LOL, you don't know what you are doing.
Thanks for the preview! It looks great and I'll buy it when released. Most of my work life was spent at Fort Eustis VA, so the CH-47 was part of my daily life. My work dealt with unit movements and marine/terminal operations, so I'm not any kind of a pilot. Placing an advanced .pdf of the manual on your documents page would help me to overcome the massive gap in my knowledge.
There were a few things I noticed also. In the opening pictures the cockpit doors do not open like that, they are either installed (usual condition), or removed for maintenance or in an emergency. There is no swing open. On the engine start with the ECL's in ground, it appears the rotor goes to 100%NR. It shouldn't do that until they (ECL's) are advanced to fly. Finally, am I the only one who noticed that the entire rotor system is spinning in the wrong direction? The FWD head rotates counterclockwise, not clockwise. Still look forward to adding it to the fleet regardless. One more for conversation sake, conventional helicopters have a collective and Chinooks have a thrust. Great video!
Thank you for the comments. Im sure the dev will take these onboard
As for the ECLs, these are details that are being revised during beta.
@@miltechsimulationsLol fantasy land helicopter it is then, while being advertised as a "CH-47D". Seems like very lazy development. You've successfully convinced me to avoid your product, thanks.
@hsimulations What licensing reasons? How is it that other developers can create full fidelity military aircraft but you cannot even manage to get the exterior correct? This isn't a free product...
@@matthewbehr5725all the mentioned discrepancies regarding doors and animations have been corrected for final release of the product.
As for “licensing reasons”, this refers to details such as specific fonts that are copyrighted and can’t be used, very minor details.
Used to ride in these. Can't wait to fly it
I hope it will release somewhere in the next few weeks :-) . It looks promising and exciting. Especially the missions.
Looks good, I may need to try it out.
I cannot wait for this bad boy in DCS.
Finally a proper military chopper for Xbox! The startup sounds amazing even though this is just the beta
I can almost smell it. Got a few jumps out of a Chinook. It's a beast.
Nice to see its Aus Army Aviation 👍🙂
amazing chinook helicopter
I literally had a tear roll down my cheek, we needed bigger whirlybirds on this sim. I got into rotorcraft aviation in 2018 and have loved helicopters ever since, can’t wait to get ahold of this beast!
Wow😮Cannot wait 😊
Pretty keen for it kinda hope they have the right Australian army texture for the D
Love it!! Their sounds are always amazing. Do you have a release date??
no release date yet
I've been a bit careful not to get too hyped about the CH47D, even though i think it has become obvious, that Miltech Simulations KNOW what they are doing. 🙂 And I have to say : Your video got me HYPED!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
You shouldn't be. This is a horrible rendition. Just to name a few things I noticed: each rotor grip should have a different color stripe on it to denote which side it is(eg red, yellow, green), the time from starter engagement to main rotors turning is way too short. That rotor system has a lot of mass and it takes time for a single engine to produce enough power to start them moving. The blades on both rotor heads are backwards and they rotate in the wrong directions. This is a VERY glaring oversight. What the hell are they thinking if they can't even get that right?
@@ImpendingJoker Since it's still in Beta, I see them as absolute minor "issues", which will probably be fixed before release. And if not, they will surely be adressed in a patch shortly after, if I know Miltech Simulations correctly. ;)
And before I forget : I'm pretty sure they have some pretty good connections and resources, who ensure that the experience will be as close to the real thing as possible. And now I've thought about it, you are the only one I've seen, who has pointed out these "issues". I'm not saying that you aren't telling the truth, but I'm just wondering ; Why???🤔
@@JGE_DK Blades being on backwards and spinning the wrong direction you think is a minor issue? Get out of here. Are you a paid Miltech shill? haha
It's a game, not real life. They'll address it.
Are you serious about being hyped? Lol! This model is terrible! As a former Chinook pilot I get enthusiastic about models being developed, but this video was just painful to watch. They should just release this Miltech Chinook as payware for some free arcade game on a tablet.
I'll keep waiting on the DCS CH-47F.
Cool
OK... the cockpit emergency exit doors are sprung into the cockpit frame... access to the cockpit is through the cabin. Pop those exit doors and they fly about 30 feet across the ramp... not hinged as shown in the video. Also missing the longitudinal stick position indicator, which is pretty important, given differential thrust of forward and aft rotor and the fact that the CH-47D is happy to do a forward flip on the ground with misplaced cyclic. Owned 16 of these at one time, and had what is now a Chinook battalion (old H-series company... HQ, two flight platoons, maintenance platoon, etc.... because a full battalion after flight platoons and maintenance put redesignated companies. You could deploy an H-series Chinook company without issue independent of battalion HQ, and that was not uncommon.
Any possibility of TDS/PMS support in future or at launch?
A few years flying the "hooker" in the Pacific Northwest and other parts of the world. LOOKING forward to do some pinnacle landings.
This doesnt even look like an SR-71, we what a bad model.
Just kidding miltech, excited for this one, less than the habu...but still excited!
Nice heli
Hi murph, whats your nvidia filter settings? Great vid
these ones here mate: czcams.com/video/ocgxTz7EF5U/video.html&t
Sweet!! Can you taxi it on the rear wheels only? It’s like doing a wheely. That’s how they taxi most of the time.
It is possible but requires a fair amount of skill ;)
That's awesome, I'll ask some of my friends who were CH47D pilots here in the dutch Airforce. Thanks for the quick respose @@miltechsimulations
Virtusim, it won't be possible, because Miltech has no idea how the Chinook works. The two wheel taxiing like the Chinook does is only possible if you program specific systems correctly.
Ow, the hours i spent in the back... 11th AMB Dutch Army. And they flew it like it was a small helicopter! The cockpit is old though...
Guess i am waiting for the DCS Chinook.
Even I am not a big fan of Helos, it looks nice for its price
i would like to see a crew mod. i worked on them, i got to watch flight crews do their checks. would be neat to see that in these sim games.
Active Duty Chinook pilot here. Let me know if I can help answer any questions about the big girl.
Is it just me or should the rotor animation be higher in the cockpit glass, it looks quite low
what joystick are you using?
Virpil Constallation Alpha with the Warbird VPC base
Being around these things every day, there's a couple of things I picked up on. The view of the forward rotor through cockpit view is way too low. I do like the transition from the cold start to full rotation, however, I feel the rotor effect is very poor. Something I'd expect to see in fsx. Hopefully they change that.
Rotors will have blur effect added
I question that since you didn't even notice that the blades are not only backwards but rotate the wrong directions. Also they should be lower. You can reach up and touch the blade tip of the forward most blade when it is sitting static. How do I know? I used to work on these in the US Army.
@ImpendingJoker there's a lot wrong with the rotors, mate. The rest of the model looks good. The sounds are good in flight, but start-up sounds a bit iffy.
@@ImpendingJokerThen you should also know that when the rotors are turning, they're higher off the ground.
Do you hear blade slap when you pull G force?
No I asked them to add a new sound set for the engines apu and blade sound changing based on flight condition/engine power and they said they would look into it so hopefully a new sound set for them at some point Cowan sim and even the default msfs bell 407 and Cabri have perfected this.
This is being added during beta
How is it a 'first look' when there are numerous videos on this work in progress? Is this some final build?
I also notice something about the cockpit lighting seems off. there are no shadows or reflections etc..
I also don't think the night lighting looks impressive at all tbf. In fact it looks a bit broken.
So yeah a bit puzzled here about the 'review'.
This is a work in progress build - not final by any means. However, Murphy is the first one to cover the product
Cockpit lighting (at least the greens) come from the underside of the glareshield and a few lamps in the back of the cockpit, and hence no major shadows are dropped on any of the instruments. This is by design.
Not all lights were showcased either - there are individual lights for all gauges, as well as white dome lights, and green panel lighting on all instruments which isn’t visible enough on the video.
Some of the lighting is ongoing revisions as this is a beta build, not the final thing
Thanks for the comments. It’s a preview of a work in progress build. Not a review
Miltech, will this be updated with the soft body sling physics in FS2024?
We have zero details on what will be exactly featured in FS2024. TBD, as soon as the SDK drops we’ll begin exploring what’s possible
Looks great. But really hope the propeller animation is higher fps and it's just your recording tool that's the bottleneck..
Hello there. So the rotor animation is correct on the video, however - they havent added in any blur motion to it (yet).
Looks like a CH-46, but I'm not a chopper guy. CH-46 was/is used by the Marines and looks like a CH-47 but it's slightly smaller (by inches).
one google search...
@@flow3278 I did, and that one did not look like what I was looking at, sorry.
That sound tho! God can't wait for this hopefully it will be on console.
Looks like I’m going to get some experience learning how to fly this in a safe MSFS environment before it gets released into the hostile environment of DCS.
Classic!
When is there a release date
No ETA
@@miltechsimulations Release date is when it gets here!!😉😉😉😉😂😂
Will autopilot be implemented?
Yes - a two-DOF autopilot controlling heading and altitude will be available.
Seems that they didn't model all three cargo hooks. I've rode in, conducted slingload operations, and even parachuted from the CH-47 many many times. There are three cargo hooks...front, center and rear. They probably have what appears to be only 2 for simplicity. Maybe my eye just didn't catch the center one. Along with the rotation of the rotor blades, this model needs a bit of work in my opinion.
There are 2 hooks and then 1 sling hook which extends from the the centre between the two
check from 7 minutes
The middle hook is indeed there, it is retractable so only visible if you have the hook door opened.
NAM, I am coming home.
Animations of rotor are really poor. I hope it will be fixed before release.
Yes they will add some vfx to the rotors
Some things I noticed in this video: The blades on both rotor heads are backwards and they rotate in the wrong directions. This is a VERY glaring oversight. What the hell are they thinking if they can't even get that right? So if this is a beta build, they better take it back to alpha because that is quite possibly the dumbest mistake that could have made. It ranks right up there with the MSFS2024 H125's tail rotor spinning the wrong direction in the reveal trailer. I worked on CH-47Ds in the Army for 7 years, I know this thing inside and out. This is a joke. Each rotor grip should have a different color stripe on it to denote which side it is(eg red, yellow, green), the time from starter engagement to main rotors turning is way too short. That rotor system has a lot of mass and it takes time for a single engine to produce enough power to start them moving.
It’s a preview of a work in progress build. Not final. Thanks for the feedback though, I’m sure Miltech will take your comments onboard
Yep. The developer overlooking such basic details doesn't lend much hope that they have the attention to detail to pull this off.
Auch für Xbox?
Ja
What add on did you use to bring up the rotary dial to instantly change from day to night? Still a MSFS noob.
It’s called FLOW Pro by Parallel 42. It’s an excellent utility

It’s is coming to Xbox milteh said it will release four weeks from now they are going to launch it early for the PC though
Please stop spreading misinformation - this IS coming to Xbox in a few weeks.
@@miltechsimulations that’s what I said
looks great apart from MSFS mechanics and flight modelling/dynamics just makes flight look and feel so unrealistic.
The default mechanics are getting better, plus when SU15 drops - that will enhance tandem rotors making it much better
Lol. I noticed you use the rudder pedals to turn while taxiing on the ground. Don't try that in a real Chinook, you'd probably flip over the aircraft.
This is one of many things that's just completely incorrect about this model.
I have been known to dramatically fail when operating aircraft in the sim LOL. Thanks for the tip though!
As nearly every other aircraft in MSFS, the wheel steering is linked to the rudder axis for easy keybinding on any type of hardware.
@@miltechsimulationsSo when the aircraft is on the ground the rudder flight control inputs are cancelled out? Because the Chinook would probably tip over if you'd apply pedal whilst on the ground.
@@grizzly319th4 Correct, our product will not tip on the ground when pedal is applied. Instead, the back-wheel steering is operated (assuming you got Power Steering ser to "STEER")
sounds are wayyy too quiet
The release build has an improved sound pack. This video is no longer representative of the final product.
The rotorblades ugly in cockpit view....
The graphic inside was very "disney" Make it more real please......
You have commented this a few times - could you please provide more specific feedback to work on improvements?
what is this filter? it absolutely ruined the video

I'm sorry, has the entire community been hit over the head with a shovel?
all those very old fsx add ons are getting updated to msfs2020 and people think its brand new. they all used to be trash and so are they now. just models without any depth of simulation. its all reheated old plugin stuff which was partly for free on avsim forum back in the day. listen only pmdg, aerosoft, fslabs and a2a do real in depth add ons, rest is pure garbage dont spend your money on it. been playing fs since 2002 just trust me
