I have lived here for 34 years and I have always felt safe but no longer. The safe injection site has absolutely ruined our core. The city has completely ignored its upkeep and this year the so-called flower plantings look like they have been done by a five year old.Everything looks like they were leftovers thrown into a planter and one bed even has plastic pots on plastic stakes. When I visit Burlington and Oakville it makes me cry to see how beautiful and well kept their downtowns are while ours is full of ugly oversized plastic smelly garbage cans and filth. The old thriving place of business is emptying out and the mayor keeps talking about an alcohol problem when everyone knows the problem is drugs and people being allowed to loiter and litter.Social services should never be located in the downtown core rather in the areas they are used and needed. If this isn’t addressed this year we will have nothing but bars left. I know this sounds dramatic and negative but walk the downtown and you will see it’s a spot on description of what’s happening. When your “premiere” street has three stores sitting empty and the city has no enforcement of painting store fronts (Cornerstones) it just doesn’t help.
Seems a tad biased. I grew up there & no longer live there. I hear from my female friends that they would never feel safe downtown at night alone. You asked mostly men. Should have asked more women, to be fair.
No I don’t, there’s a few neighbours of mine who constantly steals cars, gets swatted every few months, does and sells illegal drugs (the police know), guns being held up to my bf and almost getting robbed (mainly west end), someone stole my bike, scooter, and skateboard, I’ve had a paedophile come up to me with his Peter out saying that I’m safe trying to walk past me. I do not feel safe here at all, especially alone. Even the highschools are shitty, I’ve gotten death threats, and any sort of threat you could imagine, I’ve been sexually assaulted. So no, I don’t feel safe at all
Its so crazy how guelph has become when i lived thier from age 5 to age 22 i always walked downtiwn after dark from age 13 to age 22 taking buses bars coming back from movies or dates or just walking home from stone road threw downtown towards imperial or westwood or willow where all 3 places i hung out or lived and now to hear from nurmous people how much it has changed its so sad . I never felt scared in guelph espically growing up dont get me wrong we had sketchy people around but you never seen it much ot heard about it much now THAT is all you hear about :( I had my two kids there at the time going downtown after dark in 2009 and 2011 when we would come home from movies late on buses or dinner and always felt fine . Havent been thier since 2013 but all ive heard now its problem and scaryiness its so so sad my childhood was aleast awesome thier t
How bout you ask more women and children? I don't feel that safe downtown. I avoid the bus terminal and train station (Carden) like the plague. No chance I'll leave my wheels there either.
I rented in the downtown on Carden St for a few years. There were some homeless people asking for money, a few street performers... I definitely locked the door to my apartment, but overall it felt safe enough. I sat at my window often watching the bars close and people spew out into the street. That was entertaining in its own way. Quite a few drunken fights, police coming to intervene and talking folks down from whatever they were wound up about. The streets of Guelph always felt safe, but the complex I lived in was definitely a den for the unsavory. It may have changed since, but I doubt it.
You people are so funny. You have no idea what it means being unsafe in one town. Come to Winnipeg, MB and you'd be more then happy with what you have in Guelph.
Pozitiva 83 perhaps you should come here before you say that. How can you compare Winnipeg to Guelph? You live in a city of over 700,000 and we are talking about a city with 130,000
This is what the Director at the Canadian Roofing Association (CRCA) has to say about Hy-Grade Roofing a metal roofing company based in Guelph (see if you feel safe dealing with these jokers!): "I will say that I have researched this company - Hy-Grade Roofing - and did not take me long to find several complaints and bad reviews with the BBB (Better Business Bureau). These types of complaints would have been enough for me to pass on this contractor. I see many issues and complaints related to the many ‘Metal Roofing Companies’ who promise the world to the customer, then don’t follow through when it’s time to enforce the warranty or get issues rectified..." Not even the CRCA would use you as a contractor. I invite all potential customers to contact the CRCA before signing with Hy-grade!
....I think asking more women and people of different ages would be important..?
Guelph is one of the safest cities in Canada. Just don't leave your bike unlocked! In Guelph, they don't steal your wallet, they steal your bike!
How much did you have to pay them to say this ? Watch out for the needles and methheads !
Kyle Dert Totally agree with! Pathetic.
Meth heads are everywhere...Check out Hamilton.
You're talking about like one street in the entirety of guelph lol

Dont blame your proclivity to fear on guelph. If you dont feel safe there, you won't feel safe anywhere.

Uh...yeah. I grew up around Jane and Finch in Toronto. Guelph is Lovely!
Same lmao
Literally same no joke, lived at Jane and Finch before moving to Guelph
O and if you own a bike guess what no you don't. She's gone
That's too funny. I just posted a comment about bikes. Then I read your comment!
My bike got stolen ugh it was my Christmas gift in 2020
This is biased as all hell
I do but I’m from Stabby Manitoba so being downtown at night seems like a walk in the suburbs.
Anyone remember that pompous cop jenn kovach who got humbled by a bus?
Nah there’s too many druggies
Cork St (at night) is a bit sketch. Had a scrap with some punk. But I'm jacked, confident, and white. Punk fell to his knees from one body shot. 💪
Fen head I'd assume. Try Carden. Lol
I LOVE GUELPH!!!❤❤❤❤
Can there be an updated one that can be done with other people involved as well with the very same question and other ones as well

And what did all of the women you asked say? Oh right... you only asked one.
Too many international students.

Hi, citizens of Guelph. Is there a job in IT in your city?
I've been dt Toronto alone, and with friends at night. Downtown Guelph is so safe what are you guys going on about
I lived in Toronto and never felt unsafe but I do in downtown Guelph these days.
I don’t feel safe in Guelph at all I feel safe in Mississauga
its not bad seen some pretty fucked up people down there lol
of course I feel safe in downtown Guelph! Guelph as a city is very safe. Plus, I'm aiming to become Guelph's biggest vlogger.

I like Guelph it's a nice place and love just having fun being me dressing up randomly and walking around.
definitely not safe downtown got chased by a guy with a gun who was smoking crack
Beth black I definitely agree
Meth. Fen.
Police harassment is not the solution
Why is this video so phoney. How about asking people without telling them not to say anything bad about the city lol

Guelph has always had drugs; they're just visible now.
Nah

I don't feel safe, it's a dreadful place.
