    The OPP made the deliberate and intentional decision to treat that citizen with contempt, disdain and disrespect. Public photography is lawful and the cops know it.

    For the cop to begin with just grabbing the cuff of his jacket and detaining the reporter without any conversation is horrendous let alone everything else that went on there at the scene. I hope this story is followed up.

    The cop was hoping he resisted arrest so he could take him down violently and charge him with 'resisting arrest'...the police should not be escalating the situation, we don't live in a police state...not yet!

    All thats needed here imho, is for the OPP to issue an statement saying the officer has been reprimanded, or an apology from the officer, but thats not gonna happen, rite or wrong they support their own. Its becoming a compounding problem causing average citizens like myself to both not trust them, and even worse, no longer respect them. Its a shame.

    These OPP need to be controlled , if this is what extent their overreach goes with a journalist, imagine how they think they can treat the public. Armed agents of the government need to go through more training in the laws of the land , and stop with the feeling they are untouchable, some will not comply and would rather deny them their right to life.       Not the whole country, just in some Provinces like this one. This was the Ontario provincial police. Comparable to state troopers in America. This province currently has a Conservative premier, (Doug Ford) comparable to a Republican state governor in America.

      I don't know how it goes I'm Canada, but in the United States, the process is the punishment. By agreeing to play their game by their rules, you've already lost. For one thing, they don't even follow their own rules. If they did, they wouldn't be stealing memory cards from journalists.

    Lived in Guelph for many years, the OPP detachment their closed years ago as the local police in that area are well funded. The nearest Provincial Police station is no where near the town.

      The Premier of Ontario is Doug Ford. You didn't know Ontario is under Conservative government? Or you didn't know OPP are under provincial mandate? This seems like what happens when you stumble across certain police, police who have done or are doing something they don't want to be caught doing, police who don't know the limits of their authority, or police who think they can get away with abusing their powers.
