The OPP made the deliberate and intentional decision to treat that citizen with contempt, disdain and disrespect. Public photography is lawful and the cops know it.
Police are out of control And the taxpayers have to pay for the settlement to make this stupid mistake go away. That officer should pay for his own ignorance of the law.
All settlements should be paid out of the police pension fund. Qualified immunity needs to end.
@@BigBore525x Hahaha - I bet this would be a GREAT deterrent. Bang on. 👍 - 👍
@@BigBore525x Wouldn't matter. Their pensions are going to evaporate along with everyone else's in the very near future...
Ignorance is no defence!
OPP has investigated them self and have found no wrong doing
In fact they have found that they have a hard job and deserve bonuses.
😂😂😂😂
your 110 percent right~
For the cop to begin with just grabbing the cuff of his jacket and detaining the reporter without any conversation is horrendous let alone everything else that went on there at the scene. I hope this story is followed up.
Police never learn that they are not kings and dictators. Never.
And police wonder why the public no longer respects them???
Who was in the accident? Was a police officer driver or in the wrong?
My thoughts as well.
Yeah, this is shady and the OPP, (whom we pay their bills btw), should be held accountable for this clear Charter violation.
Problem; the Charter doesn't apply to you and me. See Section 23
The cop was hoping he resisted arrest so he could take him down violently and charge him with 'resisting arrest'...the police should not be escalating the situation, we don't live in a police state...not yet!
Oh yes we do.
Yet? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Ahhh you silly silly person
Trudeau has made sure we do. Why do you think this type of thing is happening?
OPP think they can do whatever they want
Who's gonna stop them?
kinda like the rcmp
Don’t they all?
the OPP needs to leave other peoples property alone!
the OPP need to remember they are PEACE OFFICERS not our prison wardens!
The OPP need to be disbanded and replaced by local forces. They all seem to feel they are above the law lately, and not the public service we are paying for.
All thats needed here imho, is for the OPP to issue an statement saying the officer has been reprimanded, or an apology from the officer, but thats not gonna happen, rite or wrong they support their own. Its becoming a compounding problem causing average citizens like myself to both not trust them, and even worse, no longer respect them. Its a shame.
Respect and trust for all government officials and agents is long, long gone.
@@myleshagar9722or is it nostalgia?
He should be going after the officer! That officer needs to be held accountable for their wrong doing.
Please name the officers.
Yes - This is likely an illegal happening
Most of them are the same of late, it's not just one
These OPP need to be controlled , if this is what extent their overreach goes with a journalist, imagine how they think they can treat the public. Armed agents of the government need to go through more training in the laws of the land , and stop with the feeling they are untouchable, some will not comply and would rather deny them their right to life. Dispatch bad cops!!!
The police need to be held accountable. If they are allowed to get away with this kind of conduct we'll end up with a police situation like in the U.S.A.
Oh you are already there just with a way smaller population.
You have no idea how disgusting Canadian cops are.
Actually your overall situation in Canada is already worse, much worse.
You mean like the kind of conduct where your politicians do whatever they want? Trudeau *cough*
@@diggs5518well, he hasn't led an insurrection yet. Trump, cough
canada the police state
It is not
Not the whole country, just in some Provinces like this one. This was the Ontario provincial police. Comparable to state troopers in America. This province currently has a Conservative premier, (Doug Ford) comparable to a Republican state governor in America.
@@bevmacdonald9008 Alberta is bad too
@@ethimself5064not yet...quite. But it's coming.
@@billmorison6073 Hope not although the times are a changing
Some of these cops think they are above the law.
Just want to express my appreciation for reporters and journalists everywhere. Everything from this local incident to Panama papers, you do important work 👏
If the OPP are getting pissy about this reporter, then something tells me it's one of their own officers involved in the crash.
Name and shame the officer. I’m assuming the reporter took the name and badge number of the officer involved.
This is why I have trust issues .
Shame on the OPP!!!
Sounds like a police officer out of hand sounds like a lawsuit against the department that should be filed, and that officer should be reprimanded if not fire.
We going to be told what to drive, eat and how to educate our children.
You are living in an authoritarian country. Punish and Enslave is the motto. Don't you know that a few months of training makes the police law experts.
lol
They work for the king
You mean King Ford a PC government
The provincial police are under provincialmandate. Ford is just Premier, but thinks he's the king.
Yes what would have been just a routine car crash story now is a story about bad policing also. Why are they confiscating personal property under false pretenses?
This is the new Canada that Canadians seem to be ok with.
It Stinks of a Police State Mentality
No, it doesn't.
That is happening in Canada !!?? It is a Copland!
“Over Reach” is SOP now. NEVER fight things in the street, comply, document & fight it in court.
I don't know how it goes I'm Canada, but in the United States, the process is the punishment. By agreeing to play their game by their rules, you've already lost. For one thing, they don't even follow their own rules. If they did, they wouldn't be stealing memory cards from journalists.
Sue em. This abuse of civil rights needs to stop
so assault then? and theft? this will be interesting...
It's a public place and he didn't hinder their investigation. Sometimes police like to use their authority overboard against the public
Sometimes? 😹🤣
my exact thought @@Hundr_
If he were Hamas, they would have taken the pictures for him.
What has happened to Canada?
Take them to court they need to be held accountable!
Illegal search and siezure, illegal detention, some overeager Stripe-hunter is not only not going to get the Flat Screen this month, but will likely involve his division in a costly lawsuit, paid for ,of course by the tax-payers of Ontario.
Your province is PC, now that you know that I’m sure you’ll correct your post as it is incorrect. It is PC not Liberal.
Did you write to the police of the chief? Junior officers could be dressed down.
It’s happening all the time with independent journalists and you haven’t covered it. What’s different this time? Starting to realize your not safe either 😂
Cop definitely needs to be tuned in to his behavior.
OPP...doin the dirty ... yet again.
Poor guy! I’m ashamed of the OPP, we had a situation and the OPP didn’t do anything! We solved the problem ourselves!
I wonder which politician was involved?
you’re onto something.
Lawsuit coming
No body camera!?
Something makes no sense. Definitely more to the story
I hope he does take legal action!
Now do a report on how many times this same thing happened to non mainstream news
Doug Ford's Ontario.
Lived in Guelph for many years, the OPP detachment their closed years ago as the local police in that area are well funded. The nearest Provincial Police station is no where near the town.
@standing0 it is literally 2Km from Guelph on Hespler Rd.
@Ali_ON3 it's a lot farther than that, I used to commute daily to Cambridge from Guelph.
Either a police employee or some high-ranking official may have been evolved. Protect your own mentality.
This is starting to be the typical behavior of the political enforcement factions here in Chianada.... Psychopaths hiding in plain sight while dressed in clown costumes.... Shameful of the police to treat the average citizen like a combatant in a war zone.... What ever happend to community policing....
Canazuela
You shall carry your camera and take no pictures, you shall eats z bugs and be happy, you will own nothing and be happy..... Trudeau's new Canada
Still scared eh
Which law or regulation has Trudeau passed that prevents you from taking pictures? Be specific in your claims. Do you think police malpractice started when Trudeau took office?
@@BigBore525x remember Ottawa truckers rally? Wow we forget fast
Yet apparently we do not live in a Police state!
Yes yes.. I hope the movement will be crowned with success
Julian Assange: "Hold my beer"
This is Chinada! Canada has fallen
.. Far too much qualified immunity in this province and country.
Sue them.
A very relatable video clip. Thank you for sharing.
So... I guess it would be a safe bet to say he ain't down wit OPP.
😂
Public pressure is the only way to shame these clowns.
Go back to opc and retrain n learn the laws
Sue them
Cop should be charged with assault
Ari Goldkind..? Probably a great legal expert but NOT AT ALL expert at showing up in court for any of his clients.. Plain and simple - the OPP *EXCEEDED* their authority
I guess that cops in the OPP have been watching far too many 1st Amendment videos on You Tube.
That is the OPP under Trudeau's regime
You are a PC province! OPP are under PC control. I’m sure you’ll correct your post now you know the difference. I’m sure you don’t want Alternative facts to proliferate
OPP stands for Ontario PROVINCIAL Police. Ontario's provincial government is Conservative. What laws or regulations has Trudeau changed in Ontario in terms of policing?
Slight Federal/Provincial issue there but sure what you said. I don’t like Trudeau by the way.
File a complaint and sue or this will just continue. Stop it now ! Theres way too much at stake
Doug fords Ontario, smh
Welcome to the new Canada
Meh, not too bad, apology should suffice
the cops must stop this continous overreach.... EVERYWHERE!
File a law suit
Protestors can threaten a cops life at a shopping mall but this guy gets dusted up for reporting. Pathetic.
Holy crap ‼️😳🤦🏼♀️
Let me guess . Nothing happens. I wonder why the officer was so concerned ? What were the hiding
It may be, there should be police that police the police in this province maybe charges could be placed down against this officer for excessive force
Throw him in jail.
Police hate having to answer questions. Keep up the pressure.
I bet the crash was caused by a cop
Cover up.
I hope he sues the opp and the coroner
What’s going on in Canada?
Oh, it can’t happen here huh ?
WHAT'S THE HELL in Canada ????
Theft under 5000
Definitely an overreach. Lawsuit and a firing, IMHO.
Now you know how independent journalists feel. Welcome to the reservation.
This is what happens when you are not on the Liberal/NDP list of approved (paid) journalists
The Premier of Ontario is Doug Ford. You didn't know Ontario is under Conservative government? Or you didn't know OPP are under provincial mandate? This seems like what happens when you stumble across certain police, police who have done or are doing something they don't want to be caught doing, police who don't know the limits of their authority, or police who think they can get away with abusing their powers.
Don’t be an uninformed person, your province is PC, they are responsible. I’m sure you’ll correct your post now that you know better
It was stated that he is a Senior Reporter
You. Are. So. Pathetic. This sort of heavy handed, ANTI-FREE PRESS attitude is a DIRECT result of what _right wing_ politicians have been doing in U$A for 3 decades.
Quite whining.
My apologies to the government approved journalist .
We don't have a free country do we?
Yo your guys government is out of control. You guys need to do something soon .😮
Do the Canadian fuss have bodycam ?
sounds like theft to me
Probably trying to protect a cops friend that was in the accident.
you have to report Live... now you don't have any footage of what happen? If not you will get screw around by the bad police.
You're still not getting it . Comply with narratives, not fact .
