- It's been 20 years since Avril Lavigne released "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi" on her debut album "Let Go." Avril shares how hard she had to fight the record labels to have her own lyrics and guitar-driven sound on the album, as opposed to something more polished and pop. Avril also reveals that before she was famous, she sang country music at fairs around town, and alongside Shania Twain on stage. Avril's seventh studio album "Love Sux" is out now.

I have never seen Avril so free and open like right now. So happy for her
I think it is Kelly's chillness and the fact that Avril is more grown and comfortable being herself now, after over 20 years in the industry. There was a time, when both Kelly and Avril were up and coming artists, and the media would like to pit these female singers against one another. Kelly's early career had a very pop/punk rock sound, which clashed with Avril's music, so Avril prob felt very untrusting of other female artists. But after years of Kelly being in the spotlight, she gained a reputation of being such a down to earth chick, who always compliments other female artists, so probably Avril grew to like and appreciate her. Plus, Avril is much more grown and secure in herself now. The same happened with Xtina when she came to Kelly's talk show.

She's free happy and that's great. But objectively speaking her latest music is awful. There's like no growth whatsoever. She's still making high school ballads being almost 40. 18 year old Avril could make better songs than what's on her latest album. She can still keep the youthful punk rocky vibe, but make songs that aren't so "formulaic" and uninspired. Her music is very "polished, poppy, and bubble gum" which is ironic cause she claims she doesn't want that.
Kelly’s not wrong, she has not aged.. especially considering what she’s been through health wise. It’s nostalgic looking at her. I was 10 when Let Go came out and it’s still one of my favourite albums. So many good memories are burnt in my brain with those songs and then her future music.. always relatable and getting me through things. She’s a legend ❤️

Being a FANGIRL for almost all of my teenage years is so overwhelming I followed her life and songs every bit of songs even the unreleased, her interviews her biography. Wheew. And I passed it on to my kids now I'm 27 but still and will forever believe in avril Lavigne supremacy 🤘

It's so nice to see how comfortable Avril is in this interview. Props to Kelly! I don't think Avril usually loves doing interviews, but this just felt like a good old girlfriend sit down.
yeah.i love how chatty she is and really comfortable. i do think she's really doing great in the recent interviews where she's really enthusiastic to share stories.
She's become confidence since 2011 onward and she is very confident,comfortable and expressive.
Shes always been a bit abrasive. I am just glad this can replace their last encounter when Avril ripped an award from Kelly and snubbed a hug. Kelly's face was like "b!tch..."

Avril Lavigne is my first favorite singer in my childhood, and the song “Complicated” is one of the best songs I ever heard and just make me feel good listening to her music that she’s been doing for 20 years. Songs makes me wanna have fun and have a good time, and other songs that’s touching and one’s that are personal and very deep that touches your soul and gives you chills. Love you Avril Lavigne

Kelly is completely correct she looks exactly like she did when she was a teenager. But unlike when she was a teenager and no one took her seriously like she said happened this time she came out swinging she knew what she wanted and she got it which takes a lot of strength for any performer. I've always loved her voice I did not realize how much she had written as well.

Some of these producers need to let stars be stars. It’s like a coach holding back their best player. They know what they want so let them work. We need more guitar and instrumentation in music
Back in 2003 or 2004 i saw Avril in concert and she was really good playing the piano and singing so beautiful....thats one concert where i had goosebumps and ill never forget how talented she was back then and growing up into a woman who still can do the damn thing!! Avril youre so F'N cool!!
