- Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson bond over trucks, country music and Kelly's hit song "Breakaway," which Avril originally wrote for herself. Avril dishes on performing the song for the first time on her last tour, and Kelly admits she changed her lyric "and when the snow would fall down" to rain, because she didn't grow up with snow in Texas. Avril also dishes on being an inspiration for the new generation of artists, and meeting Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo.

Could’ve been because Avril decided to record her version of Breakaway for the 20th Anniversary Edition of Let Go, which wasn’t released at the time the interview first aired. Releasing it now helps promote the re-issued album.

I love how Avril looks and sounds like she's so young without being immature or like she's trying hard to be. She just naturally vibes really vibrant youthful energy inside and out. She's so unique and awesome.
it's just her repeating "like" all the time plays the trick. And the fact that she doesn't really say anything but a bunch of basic phrases with non-informative adjectives. Unfortunately, that's what american intreviews are about

Its not only good but its also inspiring.
The song made me feel like moving even if im on a bad day, and im on my anxiety attacks. “I’ll spread my wings, and i’ll learn how to fly” this song taught me that bad days don’t last. That we’ll grow our wings eventually and we’ll be able to fly.

I love both Avril and Kelly’s versions of Breakaway! They were my two favorite singers in my early teens. I can also relate to both versions of the lyric “ Grew up in a small town, and when the snow/rain would fall down…” My hometown is snowy in winter and rainy in spring and fall 😅

I love Avril so much, always have. But she’s always had a tendency to be somewhat withdrawn and awkward in previous interviews. This is the most relaxed I’ve ever seen her in an interview and it really is a testament to Kelly, not only as a talk show host, but also to who she is as a person. This was really great to watch and I would give my first born for that Breakaway duet.
I also feel like Avril wanted to be nice and make a good impression since she was such a betch to Kelly at the VMA awards.

Love Kelly but it's not a testament to her. Avril has just grown up over 20 years. So have I and people change. Especially over two decades.
She had an attitude when she was younger but so did I and a lot of people.
I think they wanted her to be cute and sing Celine type ballads and she wasn't having it at all. It just wasn't her.

These two... Listened to them both for hours and hours since my teens.
Avril and Kelly have been my favorite singers since the early 2000s, and I've always wanted to hear them collaborate on a song together. I'd love to hear them record a duet of "Breakaway," but I'd also really love for them to do a brand new song. Kelly said it here, so I hope they follow through!
If they recorded a duet of breakaway I’m sure that it would break the charts on Spotify especially in this pop punk renaissance.
I am proud to say I still own both of their first albums. A major memory of a spring break trip was my 3 friends and I playing my copy of Avril on repeat for a 7 hour drive, both ways. It was a therapeutic drive for us all.
Kelly's first album was and still is my most loved burned cd.
Both are QUEENS and I love that they are still relevant in a positive way even after almost 20 years in the industry!

Avril Lavigne may have done the original version of Breakaway, but, to me, Kelly Clarkson's version is the one that remains in my heart. It was my Primary School Leavers song 14 years ago and it was THE Leavers song to have even before I left. Whenever I listen to Kelly Clarkson's version of Breakaway, I feel like I've been transported back to my Primary school days, hanging out with my Primary schoolmates, playing football, playing rugby, playing cricket, attending music concerts, going swimming on Wednesday mornings, having end of term disco's, etc.
The reason Kelly got the song is because it didn't fit with the concept of Avril's first album

Avril and Kelly need to sing Breakaway together. I have seen/heard people edit their two versions together, but I need to hear an official version in my lifetime. Preferably recorded as a single you can buy, but the two of them just singing Breakaway together on a stage and watching it on CZcams would still be one of the best moments in my life.

Kelly is so gracious and lovely and works overtime to make her guests feel honored and comfortable. I just think especially after the way their first meeting went at the VMA's when Avril wouldn't accept a hug from Kelly when being handed her award (standard procedure at the VMA's and so rude and so awkward) - she just shows so much grace. We don't deserve her!!
I love how genuinely connected they are. I almost feel like the transparency they are sharing with one another makes it inevitable that I would really want them to discuss the very first moment in which they met. Those of us who remember Kelly on the first season of American Idol remember that she presented an award to Avril Lavigne at the MTV video music awards that year. When Avril grabbed the award from Kelly, she blatantly pushed her and dismissed her as a non-artist. I would love to hear Avril Lavigne recognize that behavior and possibly even offer Kelly an apology.

As a teenager who went through some horrible stuff, I can say that her music even though I was a little older was therapy. Just turn it on blast and sing until you pass out.
It’s not because she didn’t like the song it’s because she didn’t think this song had the same vibe as the rest of the songs on her album she sang the song during her head above water tour and she said that she loves what Kelly did with the song and that she did an amazing job she was talking about it on the Kelly Clarkson show
