"Careful, Hilly... That's chapter 12." my FAVORITE line!
It’s Hilly’s slight gasp after that line for me
I've never seen someone so scared to hear those words. Hilly was terrified out of her wits and I love it
That’s what makes it so sweet… everyone knows it’s Hilly, but any attempt to get revenge and she 100% confirms it, and she can’t stand any more hits to her precious ego. Horrible woman, and she deserved every ounce of her humiliation.
Chapter 12? I don't get it, anyone care to explain?
@@tchrisou812The Help was a book before a movie
I just love the way these southern women can be so polite yet taking someone down at the same time.
It's a gift...🪽🪽
"Oh bless your heart!"
where was the polite bit? i may have missed that
Some call it southern grace.
I call it being two-faced.
@@chuckclark6162It’s not being called 2 faced if you’re usually nice but have gotten tired of the same people’s same BS. Everyone has a right to tell it like it is sometimes
Bryce killed this character. If you hate her she did her job as well as any actor could.
Agreed
Preach
She sholl did. 🤣 pissed me off every scene she did. And I bet if i recognized her in another movie, I’d still be pissed. She did a damn good job.

I just about di*d when she said that to hilly 😅😅😅

Did you watch the movie, or just reminds you of your own family? 😂
😂
Her voice drops on the line, “Get your raggedy ass off my porch!” She damn well means it!
I like that line😅😅😅. I'm going to use that one! 😂😂😂
Damn sure did!!!
I caught that too. That was more like Allison Janney than the character 😅
@@chigirld1737 I love her acting, she's so good. They could make a show where she played every one of the characters and I bet it would still be entertaining.
What is the actress name who delivered this line?
"Been eating too much...pie."
Mama Phelan knows. Game over.
are we talking the Rainbow?
@@yanni2112 Watch the movie. It's well worth the time.
A big ol' verbal bitch slap. Mama don't need no pimp hand when her tongue is strong.
@@gailtaylor1636it is, but it's again one of those white saviour movies. Real history has nothing to do with this movie.
Now don't call me a snowflake for pointing this out. I just kept my view forward.
@@Sunny-sc5vqI thought it was beautiful. By no means was it a “white saviour” movie. Most of the white people in this movie were deplorable. The white “saviour”, being the author, was only made to be compassionate to coloured people because her black worker Constantine nurtured her to be that way, and the movie made that clear.
"Before we all get one of those disgusting things on our lips" FINISH HER! 😂😂

Same and same.

Hilly is a truly repugnant character, but Bryce played her SO well.
I have to remind myself I don’t hate Bryce Dallas Howard, I hate Hilly Holbrook 🤣
She deserved an Oscar nom

You know it's a great actor when you hate them because of their character 😂😂😂
imagine driving all the way to someone's house to snitch to their mother
You say that, but part of what makes this movie hit is that, in some towns, we don’t HAVE to imagine - it’s REAL.
@phastinemoon lol I can't though. that's the funny part. she's grown and still went to snitch
@@chaosspy6723 I’ve noticed a lot of southern folk have these real childish ways of behaving, but they’re proud of it.
Like the way they’re proud they have little sayings they say to people they don’t like, like “bless your heart” & shit like that 😂😂 they are proud they hide behind fake politeness instead of just being straightforward.
@ScreamingDucksShotMyMother The internet has run all the way away with "bless your heart". It's not always code for "you dumba$$". In my neck of the woods, it's said in all sincerity way more often than it's said in scornful pity.

The only thing scarier than being told off by your own mama, is being told off by a strong southern woman. I sat up straight in my chair as soon as she started talking. Mad respect.
Maybe 40 years ago…. Kids now a days are not phased in the LEAST let alone young adults.
Its truly too bad that she couldn't stand up for her maid when she used the front door instead of the back.

Not even 40 years ago, for many of us. Southerners were ridiculed in many households, and did not incite fear whatsoever.
Depends on the… _folks._
Many of us outside the south are not easily intimidated. Perhaps even less by _southerners._
All due... It’s def more of a _cultural_ and geographical thing.
2:14- The way Skeeter looks at her mum when she realises she has read the book......
Less that she has read the book, and more that she figured out it was about the town.
Hilly figuring it out was one thing: of course she would the second she read in chapter 12 about her eating shit.
This entire movie had an outstanding cast that embodied their characters to where you felt their pain, their fear, their innocence, their strength and their shortcomings. The screenwriting capitalized on the book and built some of the characters to powerhouse performances. For me, one of the best scenes comes after this when mom tells Eugenia she has "never been more proud" of her. The one thing every child yearns to hear from a parent.
Just uploaded that scene for you. Hope you enjoy. ❤ czcams.com/video/9daMfSAtwHk/video.htmlsi=qne6WKvWhTZjn77u
And the only man of substance was the white guy who look after Millie. Had the black man a bum
@@andrejamison2723who's Millie?
@@elijahishere The black Maid who was outcast after she put stool in the pie
Right on
The way she gets out of the car all pissed off and starts speed-walking to the door- it just kills me. 😂
Then Skeeter’s : “what the hell…..” 😂 I’d be thinking the same thing 😂
I love that Charlotte finally had the balls to tell Skeeter the truth & tell her daughter about how PROUD she was! Also, the fact that she politely, in a southern lady way, told Hilly to f*ck off was GOLD🤣
In any case, the family will live with a "bad name" because of the book, so be it
I have finally noticed that when Hilly spilled her alcohol in the car it looks like she completely peed herself. The front and back of her pants are soaked. Really ads a layer of embarrassment to her growing humiliation.
Plus we know how bad the smell of beer is on someone
Good
Had to go back a couple of times and run it in slo-mo but I kind of see it.
Yeah, anybody who's been around someone who had that happen knows how bad it smells, especially if it's mixed with actually peeing yourself and it's there for a while.
Mama coming out and carving up Hilly with that line, delivered as it was, made me want to back up a bit. 😄
In the book, it’s actually sweat not spilled beer on her pants
But I liked that they kept that detail
probably comes off better in the cinema. I only ever saw this on a laptop or TV
When she called her raggedy I was laughing so hard that I started hiccuping.
She was a hot mess
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’ve been eating too much pie” 😭
I love how she says the word " pie "
@@a.g.demada5263 It just dawned on me what she was saying and I've seen this film several times. Sometimes I'm so stupid that I surprise even myself.
@@maxalberts2003 oh no, it happens somethimes
What I love about this scene is that it ties into two details from the books. One where Skeeter mentions that all the ladies in the bridge club where dresses that aren't tailored to fit a grown woman but rather look like bigger versions of children's dresses and that Hilly hasn't changed since they were kids behavior-wise since her Dad spoiled her rotten.
The second detail is how in the book she is still obsessed with Johnny, her ex and now Celia's husband. In the time the movie takes place, cold sores were seen as synonymous with herpes, which made people think Hilly was sleeping around. Hilly had a cold sore after Johnny broke up with her in college and people whispered that her current husband might have been babytrapped, hence her need to control everything and shut people up when rumors are started by someone other than her.
Hilly knows that even if she takes Skeeter to court, everyone will know she is chapter 12 (or in the case of her clique start believing the rumors), so she defaults to the immature kid thing of trying to tattle on Skeeter to her DYING MOTHER without any care of what she looks like with unbrushed hair, a booze stain on the front of her pants that looks like she wet herself, a shirt that isn't properly tucked in, and a giant cold sore on her mouth just a few weeks after she was basically seen fighting with Celia over Johnny. When Mama calls her a raggedy ass, she's not kidding!
Cold sores are synonymous with herpes, though
" In the time the movie takes place, cold sores were seen as synonymous with herpes, which made people think Hilly was sleeping around"
Well, they should be seen as synonymous with herpes, because if you have a cold sore, or a fever blister as they are sometimes called, you have either the herpes simplex virus type 1 or the less commonly herpes simplex virus type 2. Those viral infections are the cause of cold sores.
this explanation was quite helpful to get the context ... thanks
What was the whole "pie" thing about?!
@@chailady2608 - Hilly fired her maid. The maid came back with a homemade chocolate pie which Hilly took as a peace offering so she could get her job back. After Hilly ate a slice the maid told her she mixed her own poop in the pie.
The irony of Hilly telling people they're going to catch a disease from a different race and she got herpes herself
One of my favorite lines happened right after this when she told Skeeter, "I've decided not to die."
Mama did that for Skeeter and for herself for not standing up for her maid back when she should have. ❤
Southern ladies can kill you with politeness. I’ve seen it before and it’s brutal

Has anyone ever seen anything but STELLAR from Allison janney? Brilliant!
There are very few characters that have brought the distain that Hilly did in this movie. Seeing her finally face the truth about herself in this movie was SO gratifying.
Her face and when she says “That was not me!” Gets me every time 🤣🤣 The whole cast all around was great ❤️
She will go to her grave denying it 😂
Lol
This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie hilly deserved what happened and the icing on the cake was the fact that hilly was not expecting skeeter's mom to already know and made sure hilly knew that she was not going to be pushed around anymore
I loved how it took her being sick to learn what's important, and stop caring what other people thought. Great movie!!
There’s a snotty privileged drunk in our town that stalked and harassed me for years, and I always think of her when I watch this video!!!❤️😂💯
You could always bake her/him a "pie"!😅
DITTO !!! 🥧🥧🥧
@@lila2986 🥧🥧🥧😊🥧🥧🥧
Don’t listen to people telling you to do this to her. Stuff like this actually doesn’t play well in real life, and laxatives in pie, “chocolate” in pies can be illegal depending on the state.
@@ScreamingDucksShotMyMother In the book, that wasn't laxative in the pie! Of course, I haven't seen this movie, but have read the fabulous book three times. What was in the pie was possibly deadly. As in E-coli.
BY FAR one of the best castings in a motion picture for an entire cast. They really honoured the book and the characters
I loved that bit of redemption for the mother breaking Constantine's heart. It was fire!
I don't really blame the mother. It is difficult to publicly support blacks in a racist environment.
Her face at the end said, I should have told these type of people off a long time ago
Loved how her Mama defended her here she felt the same way as Hilly toward the help but she wasn’t going to allow her to disrespect her kid..
I think she was better than Hilly in terms of how she viewed the help lol
Each character in this movie was simply played by the best actors in Hollywood!! The book is a fantastic read but this cast brought the book to life in all the best possible ways!! ❤❤❤
The mother seriously DESTROYED her!!! ❤
Something that all southern people have the ability to do is sound so calm but insulting at the same time 😂. "Get your raggedy ass off my pouurrch" I love it
Darlin...Are you Ill? Take it from a Savannah boy- that is an even worse syrupy insult than "Bless her lil' ole heart".
That's how I am with my daughter. I can be at odds with her, but someone come along messin' with her, they'll see another side of me that they'd wish they'd never seen. My Momma was the same way with me. We could fight amongst ourselves, but some busy body try to stick their nose in, we'd both turn on them, and have each other's backs. I loved this movie, and I loved it when Hilly got put in her place, even by her own mother. 😂😂😅 Another good part in the movie was when Celia realized that she didn't need all those snotty women's approval, or friendship, and Johnny loved her for her, not because she was pregnant, and she had a true friend in Minnie. Celia may of been a little flashy, a little Marilyn Monroe, but she was the type of friend that would have your back no matter what, and it was those ladies and Hilly's loss, and Minny's and Johnny's gain.
The incomparable Allison Janney!
Emma makes a very good argument for being the top actor of her generation. She puts on a role and wears it. Really a true actor.
Hily is such a Karen 🤣🤣🤣
She is THEE Karen. The unholy matron of privilege all Karens aspire to emulate.
Truly a godless woman.
that smackdown by her mother was everything!
I grew up in the rural South, and this scene was so delicious. It's sometimes hard to slow up on eating that good, freshly made chocolate pie, and you just need a little reminder.
If there’s one thing I love most in this world is a strong powerful woman who stands for what’s right and isn’t afraid😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
I just laugh my butt off every time I see this scene. " Before we all get one of those disgusting things on our lips 😂😂😂😂. I love it 😅😅😅😂
Minnie's chocolate pie: "You just ate ma sheet!" 😂😂😂 I will never forget that the entire audience in the cinema laughed their socks off!! This was in the UK btw. I love this film!
I love that movie! That's one of my favorite scenes! Bryce did an excellent job as Hilly you just wanted to kill Hilly! LOL!🤣
I want fo add how Hilly is walking strangely. She's used to wearing heels to elevafe herself above others, but here she is wearing flats, ready to fight but literally being shown as lower than others in each shot.
@AndrewMacLaine Hilly was drunk, drinking a beer driving unaware she hadn't dropped her bottle low enough not to spill, touching Momma P only to be asked if she was ill for being a sweaty mess...
Yep drunk enough to stagger.
This whole movie and every scene in it was phenomenal. This scene and many others just filled me with a sense of satisfaction.
“You’re a sweaty mess are you ill?” 😂
Allison Janney steals the scene! SHE'S great!!!
"... before we all get one of those disgusting things on our lips." 🤣🤣🤣savage
The car part really shows that hilly isn't as perfect as she seems . Her drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette
I think it’s soda
That was already obvious
That was the point of the story line. She was far perfect other than in her own mind.
You don't say, cap?
I always thought the drinking and smoking , made her look so what Human lol
No one can tell you off like a Southern woman.
Bryce is underrated. She’s been in so many films including Twilight and is unrecognizable in each
She is an amazing actress. The fact that she was so unlikable in this movie is testimony to that. She played the part to perfection.
She also plays in Jurassic World.
This is such a great story, and is absolutely superbly acted by all of the ladies involved.
Skeeters laugh at the end is that laugh we all look forward to when someone gets their coming ups 😂😂
We could not hate her more, and that just shows what incredible actor she is ⭐️
Racism is ignorant
There’s no difference between any of us
Truly ❤ the movie❤
Probably one of the best films that show he immaturity of many of the "adults" we look at in photos.
They may look like adults with small children...but they truly were babies havin babies
Of all the many and wonderful roles Allison Janey has done this is by far my very favorite! She possessed the southern gentility but with a ruthless edge! Absolutely fantastic casting! And a very powerful story with a relevant message! About race and women!
This cast is STACKED with Oscar winners.
Love the way Skeeter's mom took up for her daughter!
“ get off my porch before we all get that thing on our lips”
All 3 actresses were brilliant in this movie.
I adore Allison Janney. She has incredible range, and I envy her voice. It’s the sexiest voice in Hollywood.
That was a great scene.!!! .. "I think you have been eating too much pie" LOL
Hilly is so stupid, by hiring a lawyer she would have to admit the pie chapter was about her 😅😂
I love what she told Skeeter after this scene. She said, “Sometimes courage skips a generation” Classic line to great movie! 🥧💙😎
Hilly is Great!! That’s little Ronnie Howard’s daughter!! Must run in the family!😂
The cast in this movie is absolutely INCREDIBLE. Every single one of them.
2:01 😂 Touche, Mrs Phelan. Touche! 👏😁
If you notice, they make them wear clothing that represents their social lives through turquoise. Skeeter has no turquoise because she has no care for social value, Hilly is saturated in it because her whole live is nothing but social value, the mother only has turquoise as a artful pattern but the rest of her outfit is the same color as Skeeter's because her social need is refined but not overwhelming.
Bryce is an amazing and versatile actress, and she seems so kind and down to Earth too! I love her so much!

This scene was the beginning of the downfall of Hilly 😂😂😂
Hilly had a downfall years ago. She had only a high school degree completed, and her big thing was bridge. Meanwhile Skeeter who completed college gets offered professional paid jobs in other cities.
I don’t think anything can compete anymore since I saw that 1883 slap scene, “don’t apologize to me” 😂
