That line in Season 1 Episode 8 when she's giving a toast was savage: "I would like to toast Baela and Rhaena. They'll be married soon. It isn't so bad. Mostly, he just ignores you... except sometimes when he's drunk."

Aegon has NO idea how to be the king, he wasn't trained for it. He was the Spare, not the Heir, so no one ever taught him the art of governing, which is something that it seems like the Hightowers didn't take into account during those YEARS of plotting to overthrown Rhaenyra...or if they did take it into account, they stopped at thinking Aegon would just be the uninformed figurehead and they could rule through him. But without the years and years of training, all the drilling about duty and honor and what a ruler actually DOES for their kingdom, Aegon never developed the temperament or the steadiness of character to sit on the Iron Throne. And if Otto and his daughter don't get that through their heads VERY soon, it's going to be bad for everybody.

He was actually smart in investing in the smiths considering whats about to happen. Obviously Otto doesn't like it cause its spending money on promises, but its sensible considering the guild we're talking about. This version of Aegon has the advantage of seeing things outside the frame of an heir or a noble who actually wanted to rule. Not saying he's a genius mind you, or that he's great at it, but he's more rat from Flea Bottom than prince from the Red Keep, and that explains his sensibility to the smallfolk, which can have good effects and bad effects. In any case its canon, as he and Helaena were described a popular/liked by the smallfolk in the books.

In the show, they slit his throat and immediately began cutting off his head. Slowly. A slit throat isn't an immediate death, that boy was still alive when they began sawing at his neck. That's WAY more gruesome than a quick beheading he didn't see coming cause his mom chose his brother and they just whacked his head off instead. Everyone complaining about it being so much worse in the book, nah. Being slowly beheaded and unable to scream as you bleed to death and feel your neck being sawed into is so much worse than a quick and painless beheading you didn't see coming cause you thought it was your brother that was gonna die.

I don't think he was terrible at that at all. He was trying to be kind to them. And taking a tithe right before winter is cruel, he was trying to alleviate that. The Hand could care less.
And Aegon clearly loved his son... which means his reaction to his death is going to flip all that I suspect.
I'm also surprised that the dragon saddles don't have a pennant for identification unique to each rider. It would make sense for ease of identification, and likely wouldn't interfere at all if placed correctly. Trailing behind the saddle or even a smaller one on a short pole (that could be used as a spear) on the front, would have no significant drag, nor get in the way of wings or limbs.

@@rexibhazoboa7097 You are missing the point. A child (yes, he is behaving like a child since he was never taught differently) trying to please the first person he sees does not make a good king. The results of such an experiment will be disastrous.
He is not doing what a king would do to ensure a good and well-regarded rule. He is doing impulsive and, most importantly, selfish things both in the public eye and out of it. He is doing "what smallfolk want" in an audience for the appearance. Not for their benefit, but for his. All the other decisions affecting the rest of the population beyond the couple dozen in the throne room at that point are made out f their view. And unsurprisingly he suddenly does not give a damn about the details. Listen to the rest of his "decisions" throughout the episode.
And people conveniently seem to forget his history in this episode. Yes, he got the short end of the stick in his education, but that in no way, shape or form excuse what he made of himself. Let's review. He is an epitome of a deadbeat husband, a cruel and capricious sociopath, a rapist, a sadist who enjoys his own bastard children fight to the death...
The best that could be expected of his rule would actually be his short attention span with him tiring of the business of ruling quickly and his council taking the reins completely. Just as Alicent described.

Helena seen what was going to happen its why she was afraid of the rats, she also might of in her vision pointing to the girl and the one guy told the other its the wrong kid and they killed the other one so she tried to stop it by pointing to the correct one knowing no matter what she did one was going to die but this time the one guy thought she lied the other looked into her eyes and said no she is telling the truth no matter what Helena couldn't save the boy from her vision perhaps she didn't realize the whole vision but knew it was bad rat man. O yeah the White worm is fleeing Kings landing because Lars burned down her villa and killed all her people she escaped and was captured by the blockade then taken to Dragon Stone she wasn't going to see Daemon she was fleeing for her own life from Kings Landing and the new king she knew tried to kill her! Daemon told the rat catcher to kill Ameond he was a clear order it was his wife that order him dead he was doing it for his wife. The rat man decided to kill a son for a son and not come back empty handed first off Aegon kids are the same as the Black Queen since they're brother and sister every kid he loses is the same price she loses right now its 2-1 , because the Black queen also lost her baby to the usurpers so no one on the Greens is safe people its either we kill all of them or they kill all of us! Your either team Black the rightful ruler or the usurpers team Green same with Robert and Ned in GOT they were actually the bad guys in GOT we were told they were good because of why the war started we know better after watching GOT that it was based on a Lie Lenna was not raped and not kidnapped she married her prince by choice and they had a son name Aegon who Ned protected from the usurpers all of Dani family was wiped out including the kids of her brothers they even sent someone to kill Dani and her unborn baby ! Sorry but the Greens and ROBERT team are the villains in war there are no hero they either win or die ! Sadly Jon Snow finished what Robert and the usurpers started by killing Dani no one won in the GOT someone has to win in House of Dragons otherwise we wouldn't have GOT 170 later. You hope its team Black side not Green usurpers but 75 to 90 % of all sides odds are will die!
